Anyone tried applying thermal paste here? - Xiaomi Mi 5s Questions & Answers

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but here it is. Anyone tried? I hate it when using the phone and it got hot and suddenly start to stutter and need to stop using it for a while. May thermal paste will fix the issue. Anybody?

Thermal paste is not an insulator, on the contrary it's conductive.
Thermal paste is used to increase the contact surface between a cpu and a heat sink, filling the micrometric holes in order to increase heat transfer.
Where do you want to apply it?

Well technically you can dissipate heat through a metal case with some paste, but the initial post is indeed a bit unclear with the intentions in mind. XD

He probably means opening up the phone and applying thermal paste.

It should be... I'm going to do this on some spare time, but not now....

Thanks. Did not know that.. But I am good now. Found out that my cpu and gpu are clocked on lowest frequency.

New to g4 is there a thermal mitigation option

Wonderin if g4 has option to disable thermal mitigation like g3 im expieriencing some lag when i get warmer not hot and i know this worked on g3 im on a ls991 running zv6 rooted of coarse no recovery
You could also try installing thermal tape/pads inside the phone (or even using thermal paste like what's used on computer CPUs) between the chips and the frame, to pull heat off the motherboard and into the frame of the phone and ease some of the thermal throttling.
There is a write up somewhere showing pictures and explaining how to do the cooling mod, it's fairly straightforward you just unscrew the motherboard (there is also a youtube video showing the guy installing thermal paste)

Im one of the origes that done the mod on the g3 i use arctic silver paste im not a fan of the pads i havnt disasemnled a g4 yet though im sire i could figure out how to but i rather come across a scematic or teardown diagram just in case. I even just bought a new repair kit for phones. My issue isnt over heating imo but it seems like when i hit around 55 or so it throttles and screen dims so i wanna disable the throttle not to worried about heat i know damn well its not over heating

G3(D855) Blue screen error

I went to my technician already twice but the blue screen keeps coming back. I need to go back every week as the technician heats the soc with some paste I suppose. After one day of usage it goes back to blue screen then the phones becomes dead. Is there any fix for this? :crying:
Thank you for the help guys.
Replace the motherboard or heat it up with a iron
Motherboard is quite expensive. Do I need to put thermal pads as this heating method seems to fix the error temporarily.

Yes definitely try putting thermal pads or plastic. Heating the motherboard is only a final temporary solution, most useful for just backing up data off the device.

I don't know.
It might work for a long period of time, it might not.
If it works you can hope for the best and if you want to prolong the life of the phone, make sure you are not stressing the phone and using it while overheated.

One thing I noticed also when I did the paper trick by putting a piece of paper on the left side of the camera the phone works for awhile too. Any reason for this why it works?

The problem is caused by bad quality solder and a phone that tends to go very hot. If you use your phone often while hot, the bad quality solder with the chip mess up after a while and causes you to lose connection.
The pressure you're putting with the paper clip or plastic helps restore the connection by pressing on the chip.
Thermal pad is best since it helps with the cooling also. Avoid metal since they conduct electricity and might interfere with the radio signals.

Help regarding heat management on lg g4 : Pls take part in this thread

Can you guys provide or give some steps how we can manage thermal issue on LG G4 ?
Will thermal paste or thermal pad or thermal tape works on lg g4 ?
Will putting copper tape above CPU will reduce thermal problem ?
I think by managing heat , we can prevent our device from getting bootloop .
Any tips from the users are greatly appreciated.. Pls take part in this thread
Thanks

I did a teardown guide in the sprint threads over a year ago how i pasted mine and it stay a little cooler but my g4 is nearing 2 years old give or take. And still runs decent. I use it pretty hard for vr apps and stuff like that. But i used artic silver on most flat chips on both sides of the motherboard as well as a copper shim on the cpus

Ive been sayin all along i think the thermal mods have helped keep mine alive. Also living in a colder climate than most i think helps. Its still 70s in the day and 30s and 40s at nite. Here in vermont. I get like 4 or 5 months this year of decent weather. It snowed 2 weeks ago. Didnt acculate but did snow i think that helps
my manufacturing warranty expired on march. i also was wondering if i should do something to prevent heat. mine gets to 111F then i let it cool down... would be nice just to help it run cooler..

By just turning on wifi and opening any webpages (Forget gaming) mine increases to 120 F -125 F. So I'm very much worried about heating issue. Gonna try ur Arctic Thermal mode ..
I'm thinking of putting thermal paste in all 5 chip like you mentioned and cover it on top of each chip by thermal tape made up of copper.. A sandwich of thermal paste (Arctic 5) between chip and copper tape (Thermal tape). Do u have any idea will it do some magic...?
My g4 is usually always in the 40-48C range when being used. Today it reached 52C , i was playing Pogo and it was a hot day. Mine has consistently run hot since I got it back from boot loop repair.

Overheating

Hello. I put thermal paste on the CPU but it is still overheating. Does someone know a way to fix this?
What Rom are you using?
The stock based Roms normally have a better thermal performance.
Some people reported that a copper plate works better than the thermal paste.
Finally removing protective case also improves thermal dissipation.

I'm using Lineage OS. Thanks for the idea with the copper plate.

Thermal overheating messages problem

plz find me the solution
i read all articles on this site but....not finding the solution for over heating auto close app problem.......
Also I trying to delete thermal related files...in root folder. But they are not deletable
please,,,,
You can fry the chipset, battery even the display like that. Disabling thermal shutdown will likely have dire consequences eventually...
You're burning up the battery; once the battery temp hits 102F, give it a rest.
Use a damp microfiber cloth to cool, you can cradle it in the cloth while using or wrap when fast charging to keep the temperature down.

Can you please give me a solution.....how can I delete that automatic close system....
Please..... suggest anything. App , bypass code anything
Don't know. If you're rooted you can edit them I suspect, once you find them.
However this is exactly how you can destroy a rooted phone... when it now auto shuts down you're already in the danger zone.

Thank you for your reply.....
That's not you give me a solution
I already know about the thermal-less CPU disadvantages......I have...coolling fans ...too...but that consum more battery...
That's why I need to delete or edit the thermal files.....
I can try to .....print 3D case for my OnePlus 7t so I can fit CPU fan on SD855+ chip
Can you please give me a solution
