Where to start to learn to part Lineage? - Sprint LG Optimus G

Hi there.
So I have an optimus G as my backup phone to my V20. But, my V20 is being a massive pain in the **** right now and I'm not going to be able to mend it unless either A: the root comes out or B: LG stops being retarded.
Neither oof these are going to happen any time soon, or at least till august, so I am going to swap to my rooted and unlocked Optimus G for a while. Yeah the decrease in storage will hurt, but nothing I can't live with as it is.
Now, Android 7, at least, runs on this thing perfectly fine. There was a port of Oxygen for the G3 and G4, and someone at some point tried to port it to the Optimus G with limited success. Mostly its just that the radio's aren't configured correctly. But, I want Lineage. I don't really know where to start with porting Lineage other than trying to blindly follow documentation. Is there anywhere I can go to start learning HOW to port it? I'm only going to use the phone for 2 or 3 months, sure, but being off kit kat would be nice. And 5 does NOT run nicely on the phone at all. It lags and crashes constantly. 7, however, runs like you would think its a brand new phone.
So, any help is nice.
Thank you!

Why did I get another Android phone?

I was so excited to get a different phone. I had been contending with the insufferable Galaxy Note 2 for 9 months. I really believed that getting the LG Optimus G Pro would be great.
Now I come to find out that there is this locked bootloader? yes before you even start typing: I already know about Freegee. I put it on my phone, it did its work. I have CWM on my phone. I cannot install a different rom. It aborts every time.
And nobody here can help. Its not like you don't see my posts. You see them. You just see them and decide to go on to something more interesting figuring that someone else will help the poor guy.
Hey guess what. I took programming in college. Only one course in VB but I did take it. And I've put up several websites back in the day. ("back in the day is a United States colloquialism")
My point is, even though I have a bit of experience with computers (linux distros, html, visual basic) I still can't figure out the quagmire that is Android.
Once the iPhone 6 comes out, I really have no reason to stick with Android anymore. I mean, if rooting and rom-ing the phone is more boringly laborious than jailbreaking, then what is the point of Android?
For example, lets say I do clear the hurdle and then flash a rom so I can get decent sound? THEN my wifi won't work. Or Some other crucial functionality will be fubar-ed. Okay okay... you say you have a fix for that? Well when its all said and done, the time/energy costs just aren't worth it, now is it?
0 #!*! Given ?
That's interesting because I never took any classes and have never had a problem rooting or doing Roms on any android phone. Sorry your experience has been bad but my questions have always been answered by somebody in the related thread. I would try asking again in the ROM's thread to see what is happening.

G pro is the note 2 killer...... Just follow instructions of any op to the T and you should be fine.... It's simple lol

I agree. I don't post often but I really do hate Apple. Android kicks Apple's you know what many times over. Talk about being locked down.... If I've ever had a problem with a Rom someone has always helped me figure it out. Sorry about your problems though.

@Perry2547,
If CWM doesn't work then try TWRP, even i had problems with CWM.either install it from freegee or install this
copy this to sd card and then flash it in CWM and reboot.
I believe the OP just wanted to start a thread...
So you all may ignore him
Thanks @sukesh.
I tried the twrp you linked to and now my phone will let me flash.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.
Close thread please.

I don't even remember how I rooted this phone... I know I found a thread that had comprehensive instructions, links, etc and believe it was as simple as downloading/extracting an executable file on my PC and plugging the phone into USB at the right moment. I've flashed CM, stock 4.4, Slim and always find my way back to stock 4.1.2, modded to my liking. If you can't flash something in a custom recovery, it's likely your phone is protecting you from failure to completely read/follow a prior mod or a prerequisite to the ROM/Mod you wish to flash.

But seriously y'all, I'm just glad I have another two hours if battery life left. That means I will vhave to recharge this phone only 3 more times today.

I too just got new lg ogp phone. Been trying to customize it to my liking for the past 3 days and night. All I can say about android is it is not for everybody. Sure, you can use it as it is when you first get it as a stock device, and it will work as advertise. But there is a reason that you try modifing it regardless of breaking the manufacturer's warranty (yes, once you start rooting it, you violate the agreement.) You have personality of the kind that thinks you can fix anything by yourself. Nothing wrong with that, I'm in same personality group too, many Android owners are. After all, what is the point if you can't modify the phone to your liking? Might as well get an Iphone right? Sadly though, it seems the new android trend is just heading the way of iphone, where users have to be protected from harming themselves. I noticed all the difficulties when I tried to root this LG phone, as compared to the phone I had two years ago. But android users are a persistent lot, more securities mean inventing more ways to break them. If you have problem installing ROM, try cm11 nightly build, it works for me. Post the specific problems and situations. We should be able to help each other. After all, android owners are together in a special community where we can relate to each other because of ideas we have for our phones. My advice to you is make sure you have the newest recovery and you are properly rooted. I can't use the script method where you run a msdos batch file. Since atnt suppose locked the boot.img file or something. Had to use a program called root master.

Exactly.
If android is going to be locked down, what is the point? With iPhone bringing in 3rd party keyboards and phablet size phones, might as well go with them instead of utilitarian design devices made by dictator led countries where creativity is frowned upon.

But Apple has been implicated in planned obsolescence as well.
Does that matter to you?
To me, it makes me a bit upset that I could work on my vehicle twenty years ago, but now it's not possible. Planned obsolescence.
Make everything sweepstakes m disposable. Lock it down too. Keep every one buying the upgrades.

Are you still having problem installing the ROM? You have never tell us what kind of problems you ran into specifically. You just ventted your frustration here, nobody wants to hear that. If you want people to help, describe the issue. Go to this site and download the program vroot.
http://www.mobilepoint.us/2013/10/android-root-master-one-click-vroot.html#.U9XRXYfwJGo
The program is in Chinese, so you may want to watch youtube videos on the master root program first. Do a factory reset, clean wipe, run master root program, and hopefully you should be able to install the recovery. Once the recovery is properly installed, you can install the custom rom. Since there aren't many, I suggest you try cyanogenmod.

I got a ROM to install. I indicated so in the thread. It was the E988 rom on the E980 thread.
I do a lot of whining and complaining but its for the best.
I hope that the complaining I did about Samsung's crappy products has saved a few people from buying...that is the only way that company will learn their lesson. Why pay $800 for a device only to get screen burn in.
But I never ever never ever BRICKED my Note 2.
I've bricked this OGP more times than I can count.
We should have the options to remove the locked boot loader. I would gladly sign an agreement acknowledging the risks.
We're going backwards. We're not making progress.
Same things is happening in desktop/laptop computers. I had to do something unusual to remove the UEFI on a Windows machine I bought last year just to install Lubuntu.
Speaking of Lubuntu, I had an ASUS Netbook with Windows 7 and an Atom processor. Needless to say, it ran slow. So I installed Lubuntu. Then , wow, the device ran so fast and smooth, and the already good battery life got three times better.
Why can't we have an option like that for our smartphones? I want to run the equivalent of Lubuntu on my OGP.
And another thing: Why are some custom roms dimming the display? Is it to make it appear as if the rom is giving better battery life?
Peace out bro.. but yeah, I'm not stopping my rants. If you don't like what I've got to say, simply don't read it.
This phone is not much more difficult to root than any Samsung phone I used. Also why didn't you do research before buying the phone? It was stated clearly that the boot loader was locked. However since day one of purchase I was able to follow a thread and have my phone rooted in ten minutes. It is really not that hard. Now there are a bunch of one click roots. This phone installs custom Roms every time with ease for me. I am no expert but I can read instructions. If you follow them, 99% of the time things will work. I love android for the fact that I have options. I am running a rooted stock ROM now but I love knowing that in ten minutes time I can have a new ROM flashed. This community has been so helpful and responsive.

Need help upgrading above Android version 4.4.2 (KOT49H.ThunderRom800V3)

Not long after I bought the tablet I followed instructions on xdadevelopers, showing me how to root the device. Now I am wanting to update the device to something newer such as Lollipop, and in the process I would like to enable AC on my wireless card. I recently upgraded my wireless equipment, and to my surprise I was unable to connect to my 5GHz network with the device even though the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 does support wireless AC. Which ROM is recommended now? Which steps should I follow to get it going? I don't care if I lose anything on the tablet. I don't have anything important on it right now that I can't get again. I don't feel like this device rooted in the same way as my old LG Thrill 4G phone. I don't have much experience rooting Android devices anymore since I use a Republic Wireless Android phone, and they're pretty picky with what software I can use on them I guess.
I found this guide and am considering using it to at least remove the root. Is this a good first step?
Edit: I performed the first step, and I think I will be happy with these results actually. I went ahead and updated it to Lollipop. It's my first time using it. I am really excited about this!
Edit (2): To my surprise I am now able to enjoy Youtube videos at 1440p. I wanted to do this from the beginning when deciding to buy this device, but it never let me. Now I finally can, and it is awesome!

Thinking of switching from Note 2 to G4

The primary reason I'm considering the G4 instead of any of the new Samsung models is to gain root. If I order the G4 now and it comes with 12a will I be able to root the phone right away?
Thanks,
Update: If the answer is no root for vzw 12a it will cost me $35. I just ordered it - 14 day return policy with $35 restocking fee.
I don't want to install a different ROM. Just gain root so I can run viper4audio, adfree, titanium, greenify (root) and other apps that need root access.

Verizon pulled the 12A firmware because it screwed up receiving Notifications over WiFi, specifically because of something with IPv6. This is NOT a LG specific issue but rather a Lollipop issue. The Nexus 5 and Samsung devices were hit too. There has been a fix for a while, but for some reason this update did not include those fixes and thus the update was pulled.
If you order a G4, it will come with 11A, which is rootable.
Even in a odd ball chance that you do get one with 12A, that is still rootable.
Although we are in the process of a Bootloader Unlock. At this time the process is only working on V0 devices (10A). Every update increases this version (11A = V1, 12A = V2). This "version" prevents users from flashing backwards. So if you update to 12A, you can not go back to 11A.
What this means is everyone is instructed to NOT update. In the event that they update the bootloader unlock to allow V1 devices, you will already be on V2.
While 12A fixes a few missed touches with the touchscreen (software issue), it ultimately will break ability to receive notifications over WiFi (there is a fix in the Play Store) and could hinder you unable to unlock your bootloader (for flashing custom roms and stuff) moving forward.
The G4 is an awesome device but at this time only the Tmobile and Sprint have custom recoveries. The Verizon is stuck with only root. We CAN "flash" stuff with an app, so things like Xposed and stuff are working. No big deal as there seems to be a lot of people working on this device to crack it open. I just want you to be informed when you make your purchase.
However LG is releasing a new phone coming out, the LG V10. It is basically the same phone but has a second display at the top for quick shortcuts, media controls, etc. So you may want to look into that too. Also the new Nexus Devices have just been release recently, which are other options. Me personally, I would recommend the G4 still. The DoubleTap2Wake/Sleep is so addicting and will change how you use your phone. It also has Wireless Charging (with an addition of a Qi Sticker). The addition of a second display looks pretty cool, but probably will only work with LG specific apps. No one knows if anyone will be able to customize the ability of the second screen. As for the Nexus devices, the 5X and the 6X are a little too small and a little too big for me. The LG Nexus would be my first choice out of the 2015 Nexii. However the LG software is very very cool. It is AOSP enough but has very useful little changes that will be missed on a bland AOSP rom (floating dialer, messaging, clip board, etc). Also DoubleTap2Wake is finicky on the AOSP roms. So if you desire the need to use AOSP, go with one of the Nexus. If you are sold on the G4 (like I am) then just do it. You'll be good.
UPDATE:
Just saw your Ninja edit with making the purchase. Worry not. Welcome to the community.
Hi player911,
Thanks for the great welcome to the LG G4 community! I did make the decision to not worry about the V10 and appreciate your opinion on that. I'm excited about the phone, I've been on the Note 2 forever. Didn't use the stylus much (the times I did to make quick notes I can instead just use pen and paper and "scan" it with the camera into OneNote.) Verizon already shipped it Fedex, will probably get it Monday.

Need help/advice

Advice Please:
I have a G3 with PacMan ROM and it's freaking sweet. However, my infrared/camera (which I use hundreds of times/day for work) is not working when I shoot certain types of materials (works on leather, blurs on cloth now). I was planning on just waiting to get the G4 when more ROMs were out. However, now I'm rushed to pull the trigger. So here's my question:
I want to not activate my G4, but use it for work over wi-fi and continue to use my G3 for everything else (calls/texts). Since I had to order my G4 to get more GB, the Verizon rep is telling me that I can have the G4 and keep my service on the G3. However, they will need to 1) Activate the G4/Deactivate G3, 2) Deactivate G4/Reactivate G3. Will I have any problems reactivating my G3 since it's rooted and ROMmed? Will this cause any problems with Verizon? Will they even notice?
Also, If I'm able to do this... Can I go ahead and root/Rom the inactivated G4 and activate it once a satisfactory ROM is out (and installed on it)?
I know this is complex and doesn't do many people much good, so MANY THANKS to whoever lends a hand!!!!!
I hate being in this predicament... If only we lived in a world where all the ROMs were available to all carriers within the first month of release... if only... LOL

Yes, you can activate the G4 and go back to the G3, even with root. When you activate the G4 make sure you go through the setup process before you pull the Sim and install the Sim back into the g3. Wifi will work on the G4 without the Sim at that point. Done it many times.

I juump from ZTE Moto E prepaid G3 and the G4. works fine with a good standing sim.
Thanks so much for the help!
To push it a step further... Could I Root/Rom the new G4, and then return it back to Verizon in my 2 week trial period without any alarms going off? Would I just need to un-root and flash stock Rom before returning?
The guys at the Verizon store are so oblivious to android development that I wouldn't be surprised if they took a rommed and rooted G4 back without realizing it!
Unfortunately I don't think we have any roms for our verizon g4 and most likely will never have more than stock based unless someone unlocks the boot loader or comes up with another bump and I think they've about given up trying which really sucks cuz I have 2 of then lol

Well I put it like this, I have 2 g4's and 2 days ago traded one for a g3 vs985 and I'm still in utter shock at how much this g3 blows those g4 outta the water in every single aspect and I've tested this thing balls out non stop and I hated lollipop and marshmallow until now that I'm running resurrection remix 6.0.1..rooting and custom recovery were a single click each and all I had to do was flash a 35b bootstack and modem to get mm running. I can't stress highly enough how much you'll regret getting rid of the g3 cuz there isn't very much to advance to with Verizon for a modder like us. The way they lock down their phones is just evil and the g3 is a rare miracle for a Verizon device. Have you done a lot of flashing yet on your g3?

That's what I was afraid of, thanks for confirming my suspicions! I have been using the PACMAN ROM for over a year now! Which ROMS do you recommend? Also note: I'm just good enough to root and flash. I've never messed with kernels or anything else.
I've run into a few quirks with my PACMAN ROM, nothing serious though (except for my camera not focusing as well anymore). Maybe a new ROM is just the change I need!
THANKS

Man on the g3 there's more Roms than I can begin to find a good start, hell I just started going down the list on Android File Host just search vs985 and there's over 400 files to start with. A good tip is to get a copy of each Android version's bootstack, modem, and kernal zips on XDA or you'll get updater script errors from the base band being off. Most likely you'll only have to stick with the latest version cuz most people go up in Android versions, not me I'm all over the place and still consider JB and kk the best and my personal favorite. But the Dirty Unicorns mm rom has really stepped up and cool as hell , especially the unique nav bar. If you run into problems finding the right bootstacks PM me and I'll hook you up
