Hi, Huawei G8 is sold since 2nd half of 2015, but still no comments her on xda? Is there nobody who owns this smartphone?
I think that now that the GX8 is officially out in the US, it'll be more popular around here.
I have a test unit I received from Huawei a few months ago and now that they're allowing us to keep these units I was wondering if I could get rid of all the extra software they added to it (log collector, surveys, etc) and gift it to someone.
But g8 and gx8 are the same device. Huawei only changed the name. In germany it is the same, don't know if this is like this everywhere in the world.
But there is no extra forum for gx8?
Only one difference exist. Rio-L01 is dual-sim and Rio-L11 is only one simcard. But i don't know where to buy the L11 Version... Germany is called G8 (Rio-L01)
Hopefuly this device gets more love from devs ... My last LG g flex gets nothing. only root and twrp... ... finger crossed
I've already found root for g8 in a German forum, but i would like to see cm or another custom Rom too.
I want to buy a g8, but i think, i will wait some time and watch the forum it there is any development. Smartphone without it is not what i want to have. If Samsung wouldn't habe all this SH*T with Knox and so on i would buy it, there is much more development.

I have the G8 since November, but actually I left XDA some time because there wasn't a forum for the device, but I will be more active here since we have the proper forum right now.

Yes, they are exactly the same phone, but different name according to the region: G8 for Europe, GX8 for America and G7 Plus for Asia.

I can tell you that the 5.5" screen on this device feels really nice, actually it has a nice ratio and it perfectly fix on the pockets of any pants I use.

I want to have the gold version with both sides gold. The silver version is only silver on the backside? Frontside is white? On some internetshops there are picture of golden smartphone and in the description you can read mystic champagne?

For me and the tasks I make, CPU is perfect, I'm a normal user and I tend not to perform tasks that stress the phone, even when I'm a software developer and all my life I have bought Nexus line.
Mystic Champagne is actually the colour I have, it is white on the front and silver in the black, is really nice colour, I liked it a lot. I don't know why is called like this, but this is the colour that comes in the box, which I got kind of scared when I saw it because I didn't want the gold one, so be careful with this.

So, a friend of mine is having troubles with the Google play store, so I recommended him to get a custom Rom. since the guy is an illiterate in the matter I have to do the research for him, and I really like to know if the hardware model is right before going ahead. When I search the for h-2-01 I only found a thread at zukfans for the zuk z2 pro. Look at the back from his smartphone packaging. There are only 2 models, z2 (plus) and z2 pro. Or please don't be so lazy and search the internet for pictures and you will know which model it is.
But nice that your friend doesn't know what he bought. Lol.

i searched (using the search function AND scrolling trough posts) about NFC issues. i couldn't find a thread so here it is!
i JUST BOUGHT an unlocked / international version of Z2 Play - 4Gb and 64Gb version.
the users manual states: Note: NFC is not available in all areas or on all models.
i tried to use NFC with...
- tags
- another phone
it does not recognize any of them.
the phone is updated to the latest security patches (in europe).
before i send the phone back to the seller (i can do that) i would like to know if it is a well known issue or my phone has a problem.
i tried using tags and other phone connection WITH and WITHOUT the back-cover mounted on the device.
my back-cover has only ONE metallic contact.
so please provide help in order for me to decide if i am going to return the product.
NOTE: i am a LG user and this is my first venture into Moto devices.

I got the same Problem Bro. Nothing interacts with my NFC - I read it's on the top of the phone... behind the camera or the flash. But with knowing this nothing changed.
It's really annoying cause I'm in Australia on Vacation and want to pay with my phone and paypal at the shops, because the currency is good right now.
So, the notch... The mark above the earpiece is the sensor. It works.

Strange location indeed. I need NFC for car integration, I will place a NFC tag on a car charger. But my car charger is not as tall as the device.
So I intend to return it.
I like the Amoled... I like the feel of the phone (even if my 4 years old LG G3 is smoother - on a 7.1 custom ROM)... But unfortunately this one does not meet my day-to-day usage requirements.
I made my first payment using this device.
It turns out that having the NFC sensor on that spot is perfect for making payments. You don't have to manoeuvre the phone in strange positions according to the position of the place of payment. So... Nice job!

Currently I am using a LG G5 (H850 EU) which is really great for root. Unfortunately due to a display issue and lack of good quality spare parts on the worldwide online market I am looking for a new phone. Important to me among others:
- Easy to root
- Ultra-wide cam
- MicroSD Card
That's why I am considering the LG G7 ThinQ. However, it seems quite a big hassle to get root on the LG G7 ThinQ when I read the forums here at XDA. Furthermore, J0SH1X announced to stop developing TWRP for LG G7 (here). This leads me to the question if the G7 is still worth buying if root is important? My fear is Android 9, which could be problematic without any new TWRP.
Would it better buying a V30 which looks also great instead of the G7? What are your thoughts?

It depends on what model is it? Look for the European model (lmg710ea) because thats the only one that can be unlocked rn (eaw and others have locked bootloaders). And j0sh1x actually didnt quit. He got Android Pie working on the g7 and we got resistant twrp too.

In my opinion the G7 is working very well.
Rooting is relatively easy for the EU model (see the dedicated thread).
I am missing a bit the TWRP for the stock firmware (that is more than enough for me) and I fear we will not get it soon if ever.
I have a RN8P global variant and need a advice for the best place on internet for buying a new display for my device, as it is broken from inside and I don't have experience byuing these things.
Sites like aliexpress are preferable.
Details like brands and models with specifications are welcome too...
