I have Oneplus 5T on custom ROM cdroid.
before installing
i created two types of backup {app+data}
1. twrp zip using titanium backup pro
2. other one with .ba extension using Skipsoft Android Toolkit.
both of them restoring but i m not seeing any app installed after the backup completed.
Am i doing something wrong.
I always try new ROMs so i get tired of installing apps over again and again.
Is there any way to deal with this.
Use titanium backup but not the zip. Use it normally. Backup app plus data. I switch to oos, custom roms with no problems. Just don't backup system stuff.

Hi all,
About to root and rom for the first time on any phone and I was wondering a few things.
First, after I install clockwork mod recovery, I can make a backup... Does this backup have the ability to restore all of my apps and data after I install a custom rom? Also, does it restore things like homescreen widgets, app settings etc as well?
Secondly, after I install the rom of my choice, how does updating it to a newer version work? Will updating to a newer version wipe my phone completely or is it like receiving a stock ota update in that it doesn't erase anything?

1) The backups in clockworkmod are of your entire phone. Without a 3rd party app such as titanium you won't be able to restore specific pieces of it. IMO clockworkmod backups are meant to be used to restore your entire phone if something goes wrong. Titanium has a feature where you can restore specific stuff from the backups, but I would recommend creating backups via titanium rather than relying on what was done in clockworkmod. Personally, I backup everything with titanium then do a backup in clockworkmod before I flash a rom. App settings will restore, widgets do but many times you'll have to add them again because they restore with placeholders for whatever reason.
2) Updating a rom is dependent on the specific rom and often the version. Some roms you can just flash over what you're running, sometimes an update will be significant enough to require a wipe. Even if a rom doesn't require a wipe, I'd advise at least doing a backup.
I have Titanium backup, but noticed that TWRP also provides a backup and restore. I think I've restored all of my apps by restoring the "data" after a ROM install (at least that's what it appears to have happened). Can anyone verify or is there another partition/folder that I should backup as well for app restoration.
Separate question - I know many people favor Titanium backup - but has anyone started using TWRP for their backup/restores?
using TWRP to restore data is the same as restoring data with CWM
TiBu lets you pick what you want to restore, which is why its preferred. also, if i remember correctly, restoring data with twrp/cwm restores system data, which is bad.
I think you are confusing an app that has backup functions (TiBu) with a recovery, which does Nandroid backups (TWRP).
I'm not confusing them. TWRP backs up data, system, cache...etc. Titanium backs up specific apps. I understand that difference, but if I want to back up all my apps, I just back up my data and restore after I flash the new ROM. It's worked so far.....and I don't have to keep reinstalling Titanium every time.
EDIT: So I guess that's my question - if I want to backup my apps and settings, would I be missing anything to just restore "data"?
BTW I have been using my data backup in TWRP after flashing ROMs and it works flawlessly.....all my apps are there.....in case anyone is interested. Currently running ParanoidAndroid.

You probably shouldn't be just restoring /data when you flash a new ROM. In addition to your apps, /data also contains your system settings which may not be compatible with all ROMs. Flashing custom ROMs is not for the lazy, just use Titanium if you need to restore your apps.
Open Titanium Backup. Go to option>>Batch Actions.
Here you can backup all the apps(system,user system+user) including data on a single click.. And this process is totally safe. Just you have to install Titanium backup manually after installing new ROM. then it will restore all your apps with the data on a single click.
I have Titanium Backup PRO and it works fine but is a pain.
When I say its a pain, its because when I flash new roms multiple roms per day, I always need to install the gapps and then go to the market and download the Titanium Backup app and the licence for the Titanium Backup PRO to work with a single click restore. Then I must wait till all apps are restored and then reboot. Takes about 20 minutes. I would like this time to be shorter and a simple install right after the rom is installed like a .zip install within the clockwork mod recovery just like the .zip for the gapps.
Is there a way to take the apps from Titanium Backup PRO and the system data and make them a .zip so I can flash them in Recovery mode?
Even if you cant do the system data, is there a way to have a .zip that I can install in CWM Recovery mode?
Any help for this is greatly appreciated.
This can be done but there is a app called apo2zip not sure how it works on jb though

titanium backup pro allows you to create a flashable .zip that will install titanium backup as either a user or system app (your preference). you can flash it after your rom, boot up, restore your pro key then do a batch restore of all your apps. cuts out a bit of the hassle.

Don't know of any tool that will convert TiB backups to cwm flashable .zip. However, you can create an update.zip of TiB itself within the app, which can be flashed using a custom recovery. Saves your from the hassle of signing in with your google account and downloading plus installnig TiB + pro key from the play store before you can use it.
BTW: flashing multiple ROMs per day? Talking about heavy usage.
Yes this is what I was looking for. Just didn't know how to do that. Didn't know titanium backup pro did this option.
I have roms I like and those that work on some things others don't. I love the cm10 but also the aopk rom. Then on Sundays I need ICS so the Verizon NFL app will work. I use about 10gbs a month.

Yes you can restore from the backup using the stock Asus backup app if you decide to go back too stock. If you stick with cm12.1 then I would use titanium backup from the play store to backup and restore apps from a custom rom. However titanium backup also works with the stock rom but if it restores stock apps on a custom rom they will likely crash like mad.
Fun note when I unlocked my bootloader using the unofficial method it didn't wipe my data so I didn't need to restore any app backups. As always backup anything you might need just in case something goes wrong and you need to restore anything.
Pro tip, when doing backups on a phone like that zenfone 2 if you can backup to a removable sdcard cause if something goes wrong and you cant power on your phone you will always be able to access the backups using a sdcard reader.

My Note 4 is rooted and I really hate changing ROMs just because I end up having to re-install my apps. It's a PITA.
Is there really an easier, quicker way of doing things when I switch ROMs? Can I backup/restore my apps with TWRP? If not, then what about with Titanium Backup Pro? I have that as well. I've been manually restoring my apps each time I change ROMs.
TWRP makes copies of the entirety of the selected backup partitions (Whole Phone), using Titanium backup onto your SD card would probably be the best option for backing up apps.
The correct way is you should do both. You only need to do twrp backup once to have a full image of your phone. This is very helpful if your new rom crashed. You just need to restore the twrp image and you will have your phone back exactly the same setup before the crash. Second, you also need a full backup of all your apps with Titanium Backup, this helps you to restore all the apps back to the new rom. Make a note here, if you flash a new OS version, like 5.1 lollipop to 6.0 MM, do not restore app data, instead, just restore the apps only. Apps force closed if you restore app data.

Titanium backup has a setting that allows you to make TWRP flashable zips . It allows you to do the operation as a batch as well so you could make a single zip with all the apps you want restore or you could do them individually or in specific groups. Since your rom selection is based upon system Img. This should work unless you went from a Touchwiz to Aosp base.
