Hello,
I just received my Xiami Mi Mix 2 last weekend. I usually use my phone to record sports games.
I noticed that 4K recording can only record up to 8 minutes and stops. I tried looking up online to get around this but seem to can't find a solution.
Oh well, I decide I'll just record at Full HD, but noticed that it would record up to 23 minutes and then continue recording in a second video. My main problem with this is after that 23 minute, there is a few second gap that is missing before the phone continues to record in the second video. Of course, merging the two video files afterwards is a hassle as well.
Anyone know of any solution to get around this so video can record continuously in Full HD without splitting up. Maybe a different camera app, etc.
My previous phone was the Huawei Honor 8 and I could record continuously over a hour with it's basic 1080p setting.
Oh yeah, when using the camera to take a picture, it always has a watermark (MIX SHOT ON MI MIX2) on the bottom left corner... how do we remove that?
Sounds like a file size limit issue. Some filesystems can't handle files that are over a determined size. I remember my old Nokia did just that.
You can remove the watermark by opening the menu (top left corner) and selecting device watermark.

Thank you. My menu was on top right corner and didn't know that existed.
Well still hoping someone on the forum knows how to get around the Full HD recording after 23 minute issue.
Have you tried installing a third party camera like open camera from the playstore? In the setting for open camera there is an option to record for an unlimited time. Hope this helps?

I saw that app but didn't download it. Wanted to see what other people are actually doing instead of relying on 3rd party app that may freeze or might be worse video quality.

Hi,
Now I know the TP2 is not a digicam ... But can anyone share any tips on how to get the best out of the TP2 for video recording.
Some thoughts I have include:
1) Fast SD card
2) 3rd party video software???
3) Improving fps from 12.5. I guess reducing resolution..??
However I appreciate the TP2 is a phone .... but with some jolly useful extras.
Thanks,
Sam
i havent try but maybe apps like coolcamera?
Hi guys
A quick one. When recording with the touch pro 2 is there a black border to the right side of the picture you are recording? that means the picture you are recording doesnt fill the screen. I just noticed this tonite and i dont think this has always been the case
since I posted my question over 30 people have read it but have just moved along without helping. This isnt a difficult question and all someone has to do is pick up their phone, launch the camera and click on video recording to see if the black border exists. This should not even take you a minute but people just read and move on. If I start a new thread asking my specific question, you,ll get some id1ots talking rubbish about using the search function. well I have and it doesnt return any results for my query. So is there any sensible person out there willing to check this out for me?

Hi Lombardo8,
Yes, there is black strip on the right side of the screen but ONLY when you save video. When you play this video it is over full screen.
Sorry for my "English".
Regards,
Nino
Thank you very much Nino. Have a nice day
12.5 fps? Probably for videos meant as video messages (eg vzw flix mms). But with Mp4 I had 15-20 fps even in 640x480. Best advice. use MP4 video. Stay away from H.264 because that is CPU heavy and results in blocky looking video. Black border on the right side? It only means you are not recording in widescreen mode and does not show up in playback. Select the widescreen option in advanced options and border is gone. Not sure if this will work on video, but it does on pics.
I'm not all too thrilled with CoolCamera. First, it's buggy as hell. Second, it's not free. And third, it doesn't work on all devices. I tried it on my Q9M about a year ago. Hasn't been updated since then. Since the Q9m has a crappy camera, I wanted more options. Unfortunately this program didn't help, as the options didn't work on that phone. The camera on my TP2, different story. Very advanced compared to the Q's crappy setup. Don't even want to try CoolCamera on this thinking it might be worse off than factory HtcCamera. There have to be better options then that program (CoolCam). The developer of that app has focused on his webcam app instead.
How did you get your camera to record at 640x480 my Tilt2 doesnt seem to have that option
Can any body help? Can't seem to figure out how to take pics while recording a video. I had to result to looking through the manual (hangs head shame) it says to press the camera icon but I don't have one in video mode?
Was hoping to use this afternoon when some guys that should be cycling in France come past my neck of the woods.
There is a camerabutton on the left when taking videos, if you have chooses to see the buttons by touching the "tree dots" up in the right upper corner.

I only have the 3 dots in camera mode, as soon as I hit the video button it starts recording and the dots disappear?
Three dots just for getting the buttons to apperar, it's like two different modes. The uber simple mode with no,buttons and the normal with buttons. When you have booth camera and video button they should not go away?
I'll try to get a screen dump when,I get back home.
Has anyone confirmed that this works? Is it possible that this mode is disabled when shooting 4k video? Thanks!
There is a separate camera button that appears while recording the video. However its only available in 1080p and low, not available in UHD mode.

Not available in UHD is disappointing. Even if the pics were of a lower quality I could live with that, but to make it not available at all is odd.
Yeah, it's not available when taking 4K video. But hey ho, I usually find if I want a picture during a 4K video, I will use the snapshot feature in VLC to grab a frame from the video afterwards. The res may not be as high as 10 or 13MP, but I'm coming from a HTC One so it's still a lot better than that
A while back CM12 had a patch that enabled 4K video recording. I remember that it even worked SOME of the time, but mostly it showed to be recording without saving anything. Currently on CM12 and Blisspop the option is again removed - probably because it was buggy: review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/103494
I've tried many different camera ZIPs from other manufacturers (Motorola cam, Lenovo cam) but they do not appear to enable 4K either.
I tried playing around with the media_profiles configuration file, uncommenting the 4K profile. This does enable 4K video recording - even saving, but the framerate is really bad (<10), both with stock and third party cameras.
So my question: Did anyone ever get smooth 4K video to work on AOSP? If so what was the combination of software used?
yes it did work for idiots who;
1) flased xXcameraXxfix_AROMA_VIPERPRO_v4_FAKXDA_LIKE_SUBSCRIBE_DONATE_YOUTELLMEBUGS.zip
2) set the resolution to 4K
3) shot a video
4) never realized it didn't even save, even if it did, it was lagging between 5 and 15 fps
TL;DR
no, it did not, i have flashed all the 3rd party crap from random monkeys claiming they fixed the camera on aosp promising stock quality
to those who come in here telling me it does, provide proof or gtfo

BUT, is there any non-stock ROM with STOCK camera quality? No 4K, I do not need that, only 1080p (60 fps or 30).
Nope Coki4, unfortunately Tehosiris is right: with the HTC cam and resolution "fix" I can record in 4K, but it is still way too low framerate (15 FPS or worse).
Voterx: To me 4K is most important, hence the thread. If i want proper pictures I take my DSLR anyway... 4K video is something that is really a beautiful thing if you have the screen to display it. There is a huge difference between 1080p and 4K.
To me it is starting to look like the camera driver in AOSP source is just not able to push the pixels?
Snap camera does it. I have also found that snap camera takes as good, or better in some cases, pictures as the stock camera.

What are you doing to get those file properties? Want to check what my jerky files say..
edit:
Properties here also shows 30 fps, but the video is jerky as fuuuuuu* - i guess it is saved "as" 30 FPS but it just drops a bunch. Yes it is 4K but def not 30 FPS, even if the file shows it to be (for me).
but.. if it is smooth for you I want to know your exact rom details so I can try to achieve my holy grail.
can one of the digital cowboys upload these fabled 4k videos shot on aosp?
i still yet to see a nonstock 4k video that doesn't lag like ****
@geekmystique the jerkyness doesn't show in properties, they are just the same as regular videos, you can check the properties in root explorer or any other file explorer.

your 2nd screenshot shows that the 4k video is in 59.9 fps, now THAT i'd like to see.
bending physics with an apk eh?
edit: judging from the amount of silence after the bigface comments, i assume it takes an awful lot of time to upload the fabled 60fps 4k video (translation: someone is full of **** and/or clueless)
Let's not make this into a flamewar of sorts.
This is a video I took of my hand waving in front of the camera, whatever the file info says, it is not 30 FPS - by far, it is dropping frames like crazy. The file properties say 30 FPS in MPCHC, but windows properties shows the truth: 18 FPS.

If your video looks better, great - let me know what you did. And if you can spare the time, post it please.
Let's discuss
I do not need 4K, I just need stock quality camera in custom ROMS It's different question.

i suggest you take a look at the camera comparison post here on xda, showing stock / moto / htc / whatever side-by-side
there is no such thing as stock quality on non-LG driver backed software
Anyways, i'm absolutely on geekmystique's side here, i've had multiple people giving me lectures how i need to flash xyz.zip set ABC settings to DEF, align my device towards Mars, count to 7 and stand on my left foot to have AMAZING STOCK QUALITY PHOTOS AND VIDEOS.
Guess what, i've done all those steps, flashed all the zips, pirated all the ****ty apks and gotten nothing but disappointment.
Thats why there is sarcasm towards these 'BUT MY AOSP CAMERA IZ BETTUR BRUH YOU SUK', when it's clearly not. Hell, half of the conversations ended at 'WHO NEEDS 4K' or 'I DONT NEED CAMERA ANYWAYS' which is ridiculus when it's these people giving lectures on how to flash stuff they don't even know what it contains.

If so.. Please post the video - my video that I posted also says 30 FPS, but it stutters like mad. If you can get better video I would be really happy to know.
Guess the aosp camera is just as good as stock boys are back in their caves.
I use Cloudy only because of Xcam. I really would like a [email protected] or [email protected] for CM12.1
Well, I have read stuff about the Nexus 5x saving upside down images/vids with 3rd party apps that didn't use API correctly, but today I saved a video, which looks OK on the device, but when I send it to the PC.. it is upside down.
Is this common? it has any fix? can I fix the vid somehow?
If this happens to the stock camera... what the **** Google..
I've read somewhere that it's normal, the sensor it's upside-down so it puts a flags for apps to turn it around.. the problem is that I tested any program on Windows (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema, VLC, WMP, etc..) and ALL of them show the video upside-down...

Hmm, I downloaded the last version from hpc hc yesterday and it was still upside down. What is that madvr render stuff? Some sort of plugin? This is interesting because if this works im keeping the n5x, if not im returning it (because I want the video reproduced well on pc)
Thanks!
No special settings. Just set madVR as default renderer and launch video by double-click. At least it working in my rig with external GPU. Here is also the feature request in mpc hc trac: https://trac.mpc-hc.org/ticket/2202.
How has google/LG not come up with a better fix for this? Two of my apps that use the camera (Stampt and Chase Mobile Banking) show the video upside down. It is extremely annoying. I realize that the app *should* be updated to the latest API, but if you make upside down hardware YOU should be the one to fix it, not force everyone else to conform.

Works! Thanks a lot!!!! Too bad madVR lags some the video reproduction (specially when returning from full screen) , I don't know why I have to move to such thing just for this device. I hope MPC-HC adopts it soon!!

Google. They didn't even use the API how they say on most of their apps. Google is the enemy of nexus lately.
Another option in MPC (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema) besides MadVR is to rotate the video while playing. Use the following the shortcuts (alt + numpad 3) twice to rotate to 180 degrees as shown in my attached image.
I know it's a pain but this is a workaround for now at least. Along with MadVR.
Just a heads up; I just wanted to highlight this as some people might be confused as to why you can't edit certain videos you've recorded with you're Note 10. it turns out, at least for me, you won't have the edit icon available in the video file if you have HDR10+ enabled at time of recording.
Try it and report back. Setting is under "Advanced recording options"
Australian stock Note 10+ Exynos
Yep just tried and it does not work.
I tried also to go into the gallery, then hit the icon top right with a "+" to edit the video, but when hiting "manually" it says this kind of file is not supported.
Samsung had said that you could covert directly HDR+ to normal video directly on the Note, but i cannot find this option anywhere.
Tested on my AT&T Note10 Plus Snapdragon and I can edit the video on HDR+
Tested on N974F (Dutch stock Exynos) and i can also edit the video's i shot while HDR10+ was enabled.
For the converting back to normal standard: going to gallery and select a video that was shot with HDR10+ enabled. Press the 'share' icon and a little pop-up at the bottom of the screen will appear and start the conversion to normal standard.
Very weird that it only affects some people. I doubt it is a locale issue. I'm not rooted and running stock software
@william84
Could you edit prior to converting? Also, what video quality setting are you recording in?

Am recording in 16:9 UHD 3840x2160
Can edit prior to converting aswel as after converting.
You are aware that you have the edit option when you watch the video in the Samsung stock videoplayer? So in the gallery app itself it won't show the edit option (at least for me).
When i press 'play video' in the gallery app, the Samsung videoplayer app opens and when i pause the video i have the editor option available in the upper-right corner menu.
You can find the Samsung videoplayer i mentioned in the Galaxy Store named Samsung Video Library.

You don't need this video app.
The edition is proposed when indeed watching the video with the stock player. However the edition is limited to the size of the timeline, nothing like videos that are not HDR+.
I have no clue also how to convert them to normal video besides sharing, but it doesn't seem to save it to the gallery.
To me this software needs a fix, but HDR+ is still beta, on development.

You are correct.
The editor options are very limited compared to the options for non HDR10+.
I hope they can equalize the differences between the options in favor of filming with HDR10+ enabled.

I am sorry that I am not raising the latest topic, but have you found any options? Maybe for converters or editors? Still, I would like HDR+ or what then is the point? Maybe there is information that there will be an update? A little bit of info: I had several phone models (the latest Samsung) and I always immediately change the stock application for video, audio, and various editors. Recently, I prefer Movavi Clips, after I got their license for a year. I like it very much, except for a little expensive. But, frankly, I would not recommend it, it is better to buy a desktop version of https://www.movavi.com/videoeditor/ right away and get the maximum functionality. But it is to your taste.
