Hi,
Now I know the TP2 is not a digicam ... But can anyone share any tips on how to get the best out of the TP2 for video recording.
Some thoughts I have include:
1) Fast SD card
2) 3rd party video software???
3) Improving fps from 12.5. I guess reducing resolution..??
However I appreciate the TP2 is a phone .... but with some jolly useful extras.
Thanks,
Sam
i havent try but maybe apps like coolcamera?
Hi guys
A quick one. When recording with the touch pro 2 is there a black border to the right side of the picture you are recording? that means the picture you are recording doesnt fill the screen. I just noticed this tonite and i dont think this has always been the case
since I posted my question over 30 people have read it but have just moved along without helping. This isnt a difficult question and all someone has to do is pick up their phone, launch the camera and click on video recording to see if the black border exists. This should not even take you a minute but people just read and move on. If I start a new thread asking my specific question, you,ll get some id1ots talking rubbish about using the search function. well I have and it doesnt return any results for my query. So is there any sensible person out there willing to check this out for me?

Hi Lombardo8,
Yes, there is black strip on the right side of the screen but ONLY when you save video. When you play this video it is over full screen.
Sorry for my "English".
Regards,
Nino
Thank you very much Nino. Have a nice day
12.5 fps? Probably for videos meant as video messages (eg vzw flix mms). But with Mp4 I had 15-20 fps even in 640x480. Best advice. use MP4 video. Stay away from H.264 because that is CPU heavy and results in blocky looking video. Black border on the right side? It only means you are not recording in widescreen mode and does not show up in playback. Select the widescreen option in advanced options and border is gone. Not sure if this will work on video, but it does on pics.
I'm not all too thrilled with CoolCamera. First, it's buggy as hell. Second, it's not free. And third, it doesn't work on all devices. I tried it on my Q9M about a year ago. Hasn't been updated since then. Since the Q9m has a crappy camera, I wanted more options. Unfortunately this program didn't help, as the options didn't work on that phone. The camera on my TP2, different story. Very advanced compared to the Q's crappy setup. Don't even want to try CoolCamera on this thinking it might be worse off than factory HtcCamera. There have to be better options then that program (CoolCam). The developer of that app has focused on his webcam app instead.
How did you get your camera to record at 640x480 my Tilt2 doesnt seem to have that option

Hi brothers, now I wrtie to ask if somebody knows where is the register entry for the xperia camera, I think i found it but it won't show all the entries that the HTC cameras show. The HTC cameras registry entries has all detailed on different folders like JPEG settings, medium quality video, high qualitity video, and stuff like that.
Well, I think that I have the solution for the bad quality video of the xperia when you shake o move your phone, I think you know that I mean. You see always pixelation, and that have various reasons. One is that the video format is very bad quality for, it's only 3GP and we don't have a choice like other HTC Cameras when you have MP4, CIF and other formats. Other reason is the video's bitrate and THIS is our solution.
If we can turn up the bitrate of course we'll have better quality in the videos and we can see especialy an improment in scenarios like sports when we have to move the phone very much. Of course, that bitrate increment become the video more heavy but that's something we have to deal with because the quality worth it.
Other solution is find a way to change the video format to H264 or MP4 and combine the bitrate idea with this video format too.
I have been making some experiments but no luck yet. Any ideas?
Nobody?
I'm sure that somebody can post one good idea. Come on people, you guys make the best HTC's roms and more, I don't think you have no idea about solving this. Somebody?
I think its Sony+HTC problem, not something that belongs to here ...
just like u can't have smile shutter, same ways, u can't change recording format ... may be some time in future, Sony might add support for h264 recording in firmwares, just like they added auto flash and geotag in leaked R3AA/R4AA rom.
Thanks for the reply
Thnaks for the answer! You are totally right in every point BUT I think that waiting is not an option for me because I bought the Xperia almost replacing my HTC TyTN + Sony Camera. I like to record almost all the concerts I go and the Xperia is the right option if we can make some camera improvements. I think if someone give me the xperia camera source code I can do everything by myself, or at least that is that I have in mind
Even, I think we can make a few changes for the camera to allow to zoom when recording video (if somebody haven't done it yet..).
In other hand, where can I find the R4AA rom? I didn't know that was already out. Again, thanks for the reply!

there is no r4aa. he was refering to unknown sourced leaked camera app with geotagging and auto flash, which supposed to be present in r3aa, but never was actually.
zoom facility in the video recording of the xperia is a very welcome step...hope somebody smart enough in the xda forum look forward to it...
I think it could be done, because the camera app uses a system file to access the camera, then it uses a video or picture encoder to produce a picture or a video. If somebody change the encoder and set the new parameters or settings into the camera app i think that it will work.
Exactly
And I'm your men, I wanna do that, but I have to view the source code or something. Where can I find it? Anyone on this forum can give me a hand to start working? Thanks!
I think that the better way is create a new camera app and add lots of features and then sell the app to a company like spb.

hahah nice one, Good luck with it.
if the wanted to make it a camera phone then the wouldn't put wortless camera in it. i wonder why sony didn't put better camera in it like SE k versions my old k750 has better camera .
I'm on Viper 4.06 ROM.
Is there an option i'm not seeing or perhaps an apk or Zip I can flash etc to give me more options for video quality?
All I have is:
1920x1080 HD
1280x720 HD
then, straight down to super small bad quality: 177x144 MMS.
adult photo sharing
Reason I ask is that I've only got the 16gb model One X and with 1280x720 HD quality selected, it says i've only got enough room for 1 hour and 24 mins recording time.
Surely there is an app or zip I can flash with perhaps more options with regards to video quality, like instead of going from the option of HD, then next step down is 177x144...perhaps next step down something like 800x480 or something?
Which would still give me good enough quality and probably double the amount of recording time.
Anything I can do, apart from changing my phone?
Anyone know of any mods, or .apks or Zips I could flash etc to give me more options to choose from in video quality recording?
Any help, much appreciated.
Matt

So I've been using this since released and it is an amazing rom, lovin it.
2 questions about the new camera though. I have seen a video where in split capture both front and rear record simultaneously, however it seems to only work capturing rear camera and then after capturing front camera. Is the M7 not capable of the simultaneous capture? Also does the M7 not support the Full Hd (1920x1080) resolution for videos? When attempting to record it looks very sharp and crisp but when playing the recording back i get blotched colors and a thick green and purple line on the right side of the video.

The m7 does not have native dual capture like the m8 does.
In regular camera before Eye experience, it is able to capture image from both, with a PictureInPicture looking window for front camera.
At one point, I attempted to try and enable dual capture for the m7, but did not have much luck and did not try for long.
It's possible that it could be enabled, but I have yet to do so.
Most of that would be done kernel side and I do believe it can be done.
But HTC never gave us that ability on the m7.
So yeah, to use dual capture/split view, it takes one and then the other.
As far as the video, yes it does HD.
I have yet to do a lot of video with the Eye camera, but I did not notice anything like that in my testing.
You may actually be one of the many who have an inferior sensor, as many have had to send theirs in for repair/replacement for similar issues.
It may just be that the newer camera stresses it more, making it more apparent.
I assume you are in fact on the latest firmware, so that shouldn't be a concern.
If others are having similar effects, then it could be a result of porting the libs and binaries for the new features from the m8.
But if it's just happening for you, or a select few, then I would lean towards the hardware failure that HTC is aware of.
Thanks for the info, after posting this i messed around with the settings for the video issue. This is what I came across, if I set video quality to 1920x1080 via settings and shoot video on auto i get what I described in my post. If I change from auto and shoot in hdr I do not get the blothchy color or lines but image seems to be zoomed in a little.
Now when i set video quality to 1280x720 via settings and shoot video on auto no image issues. If I change from auto to hdr still using 1280x720 in the settings i get a 1920x1080 video that looks like it should not zoomed in either.
Seems odd but got it working. So would this be a hardware issue like you suggested or issue with the app, seeing it was meant for the M8?
Thanks again for sharing your work !
Camera Issue
First off Santod, been using your ROMS for quite a while now and have greatly appreciated your hard work. I have just one problem with this new one, as I see someone has already stated, I too am having an issue with my camera during recording. It looks fine on the screen while recording, but after recording i go to look at the video, and it's almost as if the split picture is active, but only for the back camera. What I mean is that there appears to be a line cutting the screen into two sections (like the split picture does, but it's still the whole screen video from the back camera) and the colors are off, almost as if it has the negative filter on but not quite. I have not had any issue with the camera previous to installing this new ROM. There is also a green line that shows up on the top of the video, on all the videos i have taken. Im not entirely sure that it isn't a software issue as I haven't had any trouble on previous roms, but I'm sure you know a lot more about it than I do. I'm about to reflash the ROM and see if that doesn't maybe fix it, but I figured I would let you know of the only problem I have encountered so far. Thanks again for all your work!

I tried this also, and it had the exact same effect for me. I wish I would have seen this yesterday as I recorded a whole show last night with messed up video and didn't even know it lol. Thanks for this, I guess I will use this as a workaround for now.

Upon closer inspection when i played back the video on my computer, the video is actually two of the same videos playing next to each other, not a whole video cut in half by a line.
some bug, need fix
Before, i really Thanks You cuz best series Rom for M7 VWZ.
Yesterday, i up this Rom for my M7 VWZ, but have some bug ...
I'm from Vietnam and use GSM Sim, i'm up from NuSence 4.4.3 and have some bug....
1> Only Call success at first call, then need restart for other call.
2> have icon Sim Notsupport in status bar,
i was reup many times but it's still that, now, i;m go back NS 4.4.3
P/s: Can you port "Ufocus" on M8 for M7 VWZ ?
I don't have any reboot options on my power menu. The only options I see are "Power off" and "Airplane mode". I also can't find any options for changing this, either in the installer or in Settings. Is there a way to fix this without doing a full wipe?
If it makes any difference, I originally installed this ROM using a full wipe with Nova Launcher selected, then later re-installed without wipe to change the launcher to Blinkfeed (but the reboot option has never appeared with either launcher).
Issues with Chromecast
Hey Santod,
I have been trying to mirror my screen with the chromecast app. as it connects it then disconnects and never actually works. I had it working on your older Nusense Six 8.0. Just wondering if this is something you can work on or if this is something I will just have to wait until the next iteration of builds.
Thanks,
Kevin Clark

I can also confirm that screen casting my screen no longer works as it did in the previous NuSense. So far this only appears to be an issue with Mirroring. Casting from apps like Youtube and Netflix work fine for me.

My battery life with this rom has been insane. I'd be at thirty percent after ten hours on gpe and dirty unicorns and the dalvik version of nusense.
Thanks for making a great rom, looking forward to Chromecast screen mirroring.

Issues switching to ART
Hey Santod,
I haven't gotten any reply from you about the chromecast issue. I understand. You are a great developer. I did have a quick question about ART though. I tried to switch my Phone to ART, but it didn't actually switch over when I told it to reboot to switch to ART. What am I doing wrong?

Currently I have a broken arm, so my presence and ability to type are somewhat effected.
i dont use Chromecast so cant help too much there.
i know I saw info online about it and how you have to access it differently then what seemed obvious.
As for Art, Xposed is not Art compatible and will auto revert you to dalvik if enabled.
So you have to choose one or the other, which is why I left Xposed out of this build.
Hello,
I just received my Xiami Mi Mix 2 last weekend. I usually use my phone to record sports games.
I noticed that 4K recording can only record up to 8 minutes and stops. I tried looking up online to get around this but seem to can't find a solution.
Oh well, I decide I'll just record at Full HD, but noticed that it would record up to 23 minutes and then continue recording in a second video. My main problem with this is after that 23 minute, there is a few second gap that is missing before the phone continues to record in the second video. Of course, merging the two video files afterwards is a hassle as well.
Anyone know of any solution to get around this so video can record continuously in Full HD without splitting up. Maybe a different camera app, etc.
My previous phone was the Huawei Honor 8 and I could record continuously over a hour with it's basic 1080p setting.
Oh yeah, when using the camera to take a picture, it always has a watermark (MIX SHOT ON MI MIX2) on the bottom left corner... how do we remove that?
Sounds like a file size limit issue. Some filesystems can't handle files that are over a determined size. I remember my old Nokia did just that.
You can remove the watermark by opening the menu (top left corner) and selecting device watermark.

Thank you. My menu was on top right corner and didn't know that existed.
Well still hoping someone on the forum knows how to get around the Full HD recording after 23 minute issue.

Summary: An intermittent stutter or lag (most notably during fullscreen 4K HDR playback, in my case) which only goes away when you activate certain screen recorder applications like Game Tools or AZ Screen Recorder.
Below is a list of posts that highlight this problem that I and a few others are experiencing. The common denominator here is the use of a screen recorder, which removes any present stutter or lag.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/help/lag-stutter-overall-choppy-t3914381
https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/btwfbl/anyone_experiencing_stuttering_or_frame_drops_on/
https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/b79cw3/is_snapdragon_really_that_much_worse_than_exynos/
https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/b4nftn/snapdragon_s10_laggy_on_4k_youtube_playback/ (video evidence of problem)
The following two are from myself. My problem is that all 4K HDR content (could extend to other formats also but I need to do more testing) is stuttering or dropping frames. Screen recorder on and boom - it's smooth.
https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/ch172q/snapdragon_owners_does_this_type_of_video_play/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/help/sm-g9750-video-playback-throttled-t3950757
The lag returns as soon as you deactivate screen recording, which suggests that this is either a bug with the CPU or GPU not being optimized or boosting its frequencies properly, leading to these stutters.
I've put Snapdragon in the title as these posts all appear to be from Snapdragon owners, whether it's the US or HK variant. I don't recall ever having this issue as a last generation S9 Exynos owner. If you are an S10/+/e Exynos owner and encountering this issue, you could still try using your phone normally, with a screen recorder active and then without, to see if there is any performance gain (as crazy as it sounds, it might actually make a difference).
Below is a test I'm using to demonstrate my problem. It involves installing apps (namely YouTube Vanced and either one of two screen recorders I've tested it with), so it's not the most convenient. If I find a better method, I will update the post accordingly.
You will need YouTube Vanced. I'm suggesting Vanced because the original YouTube app doesn't let you view at 4K resolution.
Firstly, open Vanced and tap the account icon in the upper right. Go to settings, Vanced settings, Video settings and then toggle Resolution Checks to ON. Refresh and restart the app.
Now open Game Launcher, tap the three dots in the upper right > Add apps and add YouTube Vanced to the list. We're doing this for the screen recording function which I'll mention later.
Note: if you don't have Game Launcher or Game Tools, you can try AZ Screen Recorder as an alternative. Nice Shot does not work.
Once that's done, here's a 4K 60fps clip for you to try. It should be easier to perceive any hiccups with the higher frame rate. Please set the resolution to 2160p (tap the three dots in the upper right) and watch in fullscreen / landscape orientation:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXb3EKWsInQ
Panning shots work best. For reference, see points 0:19, 0:46, 1:48, 2:14, 2:42, 3:04, 4:11 and 4:41 in the video. Does it look like it's stuttering or dropping frames intermittently?.
Now, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to show the navigation bar (you need the navigation bar enabled to use the recording function) and tap on Game Tools, which is the leftmost button. Tap Record.
While the screen is recording, are the stutters now gone? To my eyes, the video plays back perfectly while the recorder is active.

[email protected] is where I experience constant stutter. You will need to override resolution checks in Vanced to watch at that resolution: Tap the account icon in the upper right. Go to settings, Vanced settings, Video settings and then toggle Resolution Checks to ON. Refresh and restart the app.
Don't forget to try it with the screen recorder on please, to compare if playback is smoother.
Just realized you're on Exynos, so the issue might not pertain to you, though there's a chance I might be wrong in that regard. Thanks for testing though - more feedback is always welcome :good:

Lizard brain saw the GB flag and assumed you were an Exynos owner - my mistake! So you debloated your phone huh? Is something like Nice Shot or AZ Screen Recorder an option?
Here's a link for anyone wanting to download and test locally:

or

You will also need a screen recorder of some sort though, that's the most important step. Here's a few:

Appreciate anyone else willing to try, of your own volition of course. Doing this purely to raise awareness on the issue and gather feedback.
I just tested this using the supplied download links for the actual video and AZ screen recorder.
In all honesty I couldn't see any difference between the video running with or without the screen recorder recording it. They both looked smooth. I was using the default video player to watch the downloaded video.

That looks like the Samsung video player, but no matter since the problem persists across other players too. MX Player in HW decoding seems to be the worst performing one for me.
Did you watch in landscape fullscreened? I keep forgetting to add that detail. If it was the same regardless, then I guess that removes the US Snapdragon from the equation. But thanks for taking the time to test, much appreciated :good: People probably think I'm bullshitting but once I find a concrete way to show what I'm experiencing, I will update this thread.
So far I've only had confirmation of this problem from two (yes, only two but it's still something!) other people, and they also happen to be owners of the HK S10+ variant like myself. If there are any other HK owners out there, I could really do with your feedback on this too!

Yes , I watched it in landscape mode, even compared the first few scenes where the camera pans etc with screen recorder on and off, couldn't tell the difference.
Maybe you could film the issue with a camera for us to see ?

Mx player with hardware decoding is no problem, smooth as butter. Snapdragon U1.
What does YouTube report with nerd stats turned on for the dropped frames line?
No offense but your premise is flawed at best. All you have done is made a subjective claim backed up by no legitimate measurable evidence..
Having people install screen recorders and play videos is not 'testing' anything..
Best of luck

That's been tried by someone already but the thing with these cross-comparisons is that they aren't conclusive enough for some people. For me it's crystal clear because I already know what to look for.
Here, this link was in the OP: https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/b4nftn/snapdragon_s10_laggy_on_4k_youtube_playback/
One on the left is HK S10+, Exynos S9+ on the right. Make sure it's in [email protected] so it's as clear as possible.
The most obvious thing is that the scrolling is laggy on the HK model, but if you look closely, the video is stuttering too (look at the zooming out shot at the beginning). Exynos is completely smooth.
Stuttering video is a big no-no for me, really should not be happening on a phone of this spec.

Okay fair enough my test isn't the most thought out, but if you have any better suggestions on how to demonstrate the problem, you're more than welcome to provide them.
Stats for nerds doesn't show dropped frames, so it's likely that any FPS monitoring software would be useless too.
No it's not a subjective claim because if you read through the post and links in full, you would see a number of people confirming the problem. Doesn't matter how few, it's still an issue that shouldn't be ignored.
And one of the links has evidence in the form of video comparison: https://www.reddit.com/r/galaxys10/comments/b4nftn/snapdragon_s10_laggy_on_4k_youtube_playback/ please watch it @ 1080p60 on something larger than a phone screen.
The one thing I should've probably clarified is that I'm on the HK S10+, but those links indicate that US variants have a similar issue too. If yours doesn't have it, then cool, you're good to go :good:

So now we're talking about the scrolling when the video is played minimized like the reddit video? Yes mines like the same laggy. But the video itself full screen is ok.

Not the scrolling specifically because that's related to the problem. For me the scrolling is laggy AND the video stutters. Are you sure the video is completely smooth? It might seem so but on mine there are frame drops present - even if it's very minor, there should be none at all.
It's best to compare with another capable device side-by-side with your own eyes, as no video recording will be able to demonstrate this clearly enough. There's also a chance that some people aren't sensitive enough to stutters and might not even be able to perceive them (I'm not saying you are, this could genuinely not be happening on your device).
And even if the video doesn't appear to be stuttering to you, shouldn't the laggy scrolling be enough cause for concern? A last gen phone is running smoother and that's not acceptable. Don't settle for mediocrity guys.
edit: before anyone questions the absence of screen recording in that video, the person who uploaded it has another post on reddit where he mentions it fixing the problem.

Watching it at 1440p on native YouTube app it seems the scrolling is smooth. But on Vanced @2140 not so smooth scrolling. Probably the Vanced app or cpu etc binning on the snapdragon.

I don't think it's the app or hardware because once I turn on the screen recorder, playback is perfect (landscape). I'm no expert on this but a logical guess means there's a frequency boost while the recorder is active, removing the stutters.
If I could find a less ****ty workaround that does the same, I would be okay with it, but there isn't
No lag here. My phone has been flawless. SD
