Hotspot 4G Data Cap Troubles - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Rooted Galaxy S3 L710 on Boost Mobile, Wicked X rom installed.
My hotpspot was originially the Unlimited Hotspot and Data bundle and worked for many many years (over 5 years) and then around February i noticed i got a 8GB hotspot data limit.
The Problem is once the 8GB is all maxed out it throttles only 3 devices and lets them still access the internet but all other devices wont connect to the internet at all. They still connect to the actual phone hotspot just not the actual internet. before hand it would just throttle all devices. its been doing it since february and i noticed this past week for a few days it would work normal, go out then do this issue i am having.
i dont mind the throttling, i just want all my devices to connect.
i looked everywhere online and i cant find anything about this and would like some help on what to do or how to fix it. I have 2 Galaxy S3 on boost a L710 variant and a Triband Variant, the L710T. and both still do it.
*Edit: On my boost account it says 9.6GB of 8GB used for my hotspot??

They're doing it on their end bro, not sure there is anything you can do.

[Q] Portable hotspot sleep issue?

Since I'm pretty sure others here have used their ZLs for tethering via portable hotspot (I hope), has anyone had Internet speed issues when using the phone as a portable hotspot (from the perspective of the tethered device)?
Here's the whole story -- both myself and my husband have the ZL (6506). He has a tethering-permitted data plan with AT&T, and he uses the portable hotspot feature to tether to his Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. He previously used the same functionality on the Galaxy S3 without issue, however since switching to the ZL, he's had serious lag in the Internet connectivity on the tablet. It seems to be a function of power saving features, because when the phone is plugged in and charging, the speeds are decent, but when the phone isn't plugged in, they begin to degrade. They get worse when the screen shuts off, too. We've checked everything related to sleep settings, Wi-Fi, etc -- everything to keep it all "awake" while using the hotspot to no avail. The data speeds become worse than dial-up and connectivity is very choppy. Stamina mode is disabled, as is low battery mode.
So, I'd like to know if anyone else has seen this on the ZL? I'd test it on my own phone, but I am not on a data plan that allows tethering.
I'm asking because we also suspect that this phone may have some bad hardware or a firmware issue (related to 2 now-dead microSD cards within the span of 1 week, but that's another story) -- if he is alone in this problem, then perhaps it's just a bad unit overall & it should be replaced or repaired. He's going to try repairing the firmware via PC Companion later today.
Thanks in advance!

I haven't tested this for you but as far as I know, your factory unlocked phone can use this function without any tethering data plan because your phone is not restricted from tethering comparing to locked phones.
So the fastest way is to test it yourself.
I'm gonna my hands on C6506 in couple days

True, sort of. As I understand it, AT&T is still capable of blocking tethering with unlocked phones -- not on the phone itself via a tethering manager, as they do on AT&T locked phones, but certainly the network traffic, if it isn't masked, can be blocked. I suppose I could try FoxFi to mask the traffic, but that's a whole lot of hassle and risk (I'd rather not have my contract canceled, thanks) for very little reward.
I'm mostly wondering if anyone else has noticed an internet speed issue when using the portable hotspot on the ZL (even on any of the other models, not necessarily the 6506), especially when the phone goes to sleep. If you don't have a ZL in your hands yet, then you can't really help me .
I used stock tethering apps on unlocked and att phones. I have the unlimited 30 dollar plan that does not allow tethering
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda premium
Last time when I use stock Portable hotspot
Without any problem but I am only test like half hour
And I am tmobile user and having c6506 too
Did either of you notice anything with upload speeds (especially if you run speedtest)? What we're seeing seems to be intermittently poor or nonexistent upload speeds when tethering a tablet to the ZL via Wi-Fi portable hotspot.
Bluetooth / WiFi Tether
Interesting post...
I usually tether over bluetooth, and while I'm pretty new to this device I know that I have had trouble trying to tether with various devices over AT&T before. I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan, and rarely tether, but once (~ a year ago) I received messages stating that if I attempt to tether again than my data plan would be changed to a tethering plan (limited data & much more expensive).
On my previous phone (HTC One X+, stolen) - i had to change a line in the telephony.db from 'broadband' to 'pta' in order to avoid this. ( I think the argument was that 'broadband' notified AT&T that the device was being used as a hotspot and 'pta' acted like it was a cell phone accessing the data..
I am currently using the PAC (Paranoid/AKOP/CyanogenMod rom) at the moment, and it will allow me to tether, but is there something I can change so that AT&T won't be (so readily) alerted about it?

[Q] Q: in regards to Note 8.0 and AT&T account

Hi,
i am considering getting the note 8.0. I have two lines with AT&T and have exhausted myself on the phone asking them questions which they always answer no to. I have unlimited lte data on my main line. i would like to keep unlimited data on this line. i would also like to stick this sim card into the note 8.0 and have it with unlimited data. I would then change my other line to reflect phone useage as its just a dead line at the moment charging me 9.99 a month to continue it.
Im told by a phone rep that simply sticking the sim card from my sgs 3 into the note 8.0 would not work as per a "gateway" would not allow it to access data. i responded with so i change the apn ? they insisted that i could not get it to work and that it would not work
How do i take my sim with unlimited data and stick it into a note 8.0 and get unlimited lte data on at&t ?
this is the main factor in stopping me from getting this device immediately .
thank you in advance for any insight
Which Note 8 do you plan on buying? If it's not the GT-N5100 then NO you can NOT use your phone's SIM card. The model 5100 is the only one with voice + data. The others are data ONLY. Therefore your service providers system reads the SIM as data only or voice + data.
hi there i have the note 8.0 SGH-I467 lte on att tablets on att are on a different baseband that cellphones i currently have my tablet on the mobile share plan which i think is the only way you can get a tablet on your service you can get up to 50gb on a mobile share plan just depends on how much you wanna pay for it but your method im 90% sure wont work and the fact that u might be grandfathered in on an old plan too could be a reason it wont work i suggest u find an att store near you and go in there and ask them.
Hi,
thank you both for this valuable intel. i was looking again tonight and am not sure which model number they are offering me online. i can not as of this moment go into a store but when i get home i will go into the store to ask. the other option i am looking into before i get home is the entitlement check on att and exactly how att figures out you are wifi or bluetooth tethering , i refuse to loose my unlimited internet but i live a mobile lifestle and 5 gb of data will be gone in less than 4 days easy. especially if my son gets a hold of the tablet.
Also they have to be fuc*ing kidding me if they think for one second that im going to pay 80+$ a month for like 30 gb of data. cereal , my response to that is go fuc* yourself.....
when i was a little boy my parents made me watch a video called where theres a will theres a way well guess what i wont stop till i get what i want ... i dont think they envisioned this as the outcome .. hahaha
thank you both , any intel towards entitlement check and or how att knows your tethering , or how to make my unlimited sim card work on one of these tablets is invaluable

whats the difference between the 5100 and 5120 ?
I've read the wiki article i see that one has a 3g card and the other has an lte card , but other than that id love to see a ifixit tear down on this tablet i'm not sure though i goggled two days ago and didn't see a tear down. id like to see the internals as i don't believe there is much of a difference at all and even though 3g is ok i want an LTE version , i'm addicted to speed so i might be stuck with getting a 5 gb plan and adding 65$ to my bill ..

The 5100 is listed as a phone (voice+data) where as the 5120 is listed as data only...AT&T..U.S> (a receiver) http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_8_0_n5100-5252.php
And answering your question in regards to AT&T knowing when you bluetooth vs Wifi tethering.
When you use bluetooth tethering you are using AT&T data. And they're keeping track of how much data you're using and when.
Wifi tethering cost AT&T nothing, in terms of data use, because you are using the data thru the Wifi provider. Usually a cable company.

to define , when i speak of wifi tethering i mean ad hoc network or wpa2 network from phone to my wifi only devices then it shares LTE data off phone to wifi network connected to it , not what you were refrencing ,
they have a way to monitor this , i already eat a butt load of data , when im home i can use 25-50 gb while home , im mobile and do everything on my mobile devices , at&t have been desperate to get me off the unlimited plan , but ive been religious about not doing that they can go F themselves for 80$ for 50 bg , i can use that easy , 5 gb is like 2-3 days tops for me ,
i do tons of stuff on my mobile , netflix , torrents, remote into other machines all kinds of stuff my phone is more primary than my laptops
but id like to use my laptops and keep unlimited , so either im considering adding a note 8.0 with 5 gb data plan , and attempting to figure out how to stick my unlimited sim card into it , or wifi tether it

[Q] Phone killing DSL speeds?

I picked up my Sprint Note 4 last night. I've since set up WiFi for my home network and I'm finding that after a few minutes my network tanks to almost unusable for ANY device. My PC, my Note 4, anything using the modem get nearly zero bandwidth. I've had no problem with it up to yesterday when I still had my Note II and it worked fine with the home network. If I turn off the phone's WiFi, the other devices have full speed again. I haven't rooted or loaded a custom ROM to the Note 4 yet. Is anyone else experiencing anything like this?
Nevermind. Found the culprit. It was the stupid Google+ app grabbing up bandwidth like it was $10 Lexar 128gb microsdxc cards.
In 36 hours it's used close to 700mb of bandwidth. Completely disabling it fixed all my issues nicely.

[Q] is Sprint throttling native hotspot?

hello, I am a sprint user since January 2015 once I got the phone I immediately rooted it and installed galaxy tools so I will be able to activate the native hotspot feature. for 2 months now my speeds where fantastic bUT for one week now my speeds on the phone R the way the where but tethering speeds have gone down to 0.5 Mbps .
I contacted sprint and asked for my MSL code number and I was able to get the code.I have changed the dss and all the throttle and my speeds on the phone have improved but nothing happened for the tethering speed.
my question is is sprint able to throttle down only the hot spot speed and if so what can I do to get my old speeds?
Pay 4 tethering....[emoji23]
Maybe they are catching on people stealing a service

I suspect throttling myself but if you reboot your phone the connection usually improves. Each time the data flow chokes... REBOOT. Other than that, Sprint is working on the network/cell sites all the time and you might have to give it a few days for it to go back to normal. For example the last couple of days I have had trouble keeping a LTE signal and tethering has been acting up as well. At times it's great and other times it's not. It's been this way for me for a long time... not just the note 4 but also with the S3 and the Note 2 as well. Ofcourse the Note 4 works with the Sprint Spark network and they're constantly working on the network everywhere. I've yet to figure out how come Sprint isn't able to "fix" the network and make tthings work dependably after a few years now. You'd think after "working on the network" for three years, they might have something respectable accomplished... but that's not the case. They can work on the network for the next ten years and it will still be subpar to pre-paid data service. That's just a shame. But when it does work well, it's definetely good enough for me especially with an unlimited plan. LOL
I've personally haven't had issues with throttle. I did however get a termination letter for using a lot of data. Which i called them about, nothing happened. I did have the unlimited all plan.

If you don't mind how much data did you use? Typically the only time you get a termination letter is when you use excess of 800mb of data while roaming. I have used over 200gb of data on my note 3 for months in a row (was over the summer in florida where LTE was amazing) and never gotten said letter. However someone I knew had used about 1.2gb while roaming (the contract I believe says 800mb allotted while roaming domestically) and got the same letter a week later.

I think it was around 300gb, but not roaming. It was all on sprint network. They knew they were wrong to send that, they didn't act upon the letter. Last year the service around my work place gotten real bad. I was pretty angry about it. So I flashed the Verizon prl and used about 100gb of roaming 3g data. Never got anything either, I was trying to get kicked out. So, long story short, I am still with sprint. Actually their service has improved greatly in Chicago land area.
I tether all the time multiple devices, never slows down. Tethering at LTE speeds when I need it. I use a ton of data, we all do, all 4 lines. Never had a letter, notice etc. Sprint rocks in my area!

Speed up the data? I want to know TOO!
I never seem to have LTE Hotspot throttling issues here. Using Speedtest.net I actually get consistently faster results on my tethered devices than I do on the Note 4 alone. I usually see between 6-9mbps on phone, and 12-17 mbps on tether! And these results are only with 2-3 signal bars LTE service at my home. This Note 4 with spark puts my old S3 to shame. I think Sprint has actually improved their network in Southern California quite a bit! Spark is much faster than the old regular LTE and seems to hold a lock on the signal much better.

LTE Connectivity issues

I have a note 4 from att running 6.0.1. Recently the Internet (mobile not WiFi) would start cutting out and completely losing service for no reason every 5 minutes or so. Very agitating if I'm trying to watch a video or do anything on the internet, really. Anyways, I am using Cricket Wireless, which is a subsidiary of ATT. I tried out an ATT sim card as well and the issue is still present. I factory reset my phone and it's still doing it. However, if I ender the developers code into the dialer and brought up mobile network information, I could set the phone to use GSM/CDMA only (no LTE) and the issue went away completely. But now, I have much slower speeds than if I were to be using LTE which kinda sucks. Does anyone know a way to fix this?
