Is this dead pixels or something else. - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Notice the line around the edge of the screen? Is that dead pixels or something else?
It goes from the bottom of the left side, loops up across the top of the screen and down the right side.
At first I thought it was just the edge of the screen protector but it's clearly not.
I'm going to take the phone in to have it looked at as it will only charge to 98% but I'd like to know what this is before I take it in.

Does your screen protector use liquid as adhesive? That would be my guess from looking at it. Especially since the edges are showing colors.

My glass protector did this too. Just light refraction/where the adhesives were placed on the protector. super annoying, ended up taking mine off

If it's light refracting from the glue why would it have only started doing it in the last week or two when the protector has been on there since September?

Try cleaning the edges with an alcohol wipe? It looks like it's on the glass and not the LCD.

It's definitely not on the glass.
It could be the adhesive from the screen protector as it was put on in store the day I bought the handset so I have never seen it without a screen protector on it. It's not a liquid adhesive like the whitestone. I've never noticed this line until about 2 weeks ago.

Yeah on second look, it does appear to be under the protector.

I tried lifting the corner of the screen protector to see if it's adhesive and the line is still on the screen so I'm convinced that has nothing to do with it.

Lol just take the screen protector off and see what it is before you take it back

I have good news... It's not dead pixels.
I removed the screen protector and the line was still there. However, after I cleaned the screen with glasses cleaner the line has gone.
It seems the line was a collection of lint/dust that was right at the edge of where the adhesive sits.
If only solving the 98% battery issue was that easy...

How good is our screen?

The reason I ask this is because tap tap doesnt seem to work very well for me,
Its usually when im holding down on the one spot and i try to tap other ones at the same time.
It just doesnt recognise that im tapping the screen.
Is this a problem for anyone else?
Also is it down to how the phone screen works, or the app?
Just wondered as i loved tap tap on my ipod touch but its no where near as useable on my phone.

It's MEH!
Plastic and it's not OLED/AMOLED. Toooooo dim.
Only time I get wow'd at the screen is when it's dark xD

Pretty sure our screen is glass.

It's a 4" 854x480 transflective tft-lcd panel covered with fortified mineral glass which has a shatter protective lamanant screen cover that's factory fitted. The lamanant covering is prone to scratching, and is whatever the oposite of oleophobic is (it loves oil from your skin). There have been some who reported that after removing the covering to expose bare the mineral glass, the brightness and responsiveness are better. I've also noticed in my own testing that this panel is capable of registering only 4 points of multi touch contact, but that could just be in the driver.

The screen is **** with the ff sheet.
Most of us on here removed it and it's very resilient.
Also looks a heap better.

I regret the day Ive put it, shouldve waited for screen protectors..

Are you saying you've put the spare on top of the factory fitted one?
I regret I ever removed the original screen protector. Yeah, the screen does get marginally brighter but not very much, and it gets more sensitive. But the downside is it gets speckled a lot. The original screen protector is very resistant to speckles and that alone far outweighs the somewhat brighter screen.
I was never happy with the screen when I had peeled of the original protector not even after a month.
Hence I bought some new original protectors and put it on as late as today. God I love the screen now again. It doesn't get speckled all of the time with fingerprints that shows on brighter backgrounds. I will never take it off again. The difference is HUGE when it comes to speckles.
Speckles??

Liquid Screen Protector

So I've noticed a lot of people on here are worried about glass screen protectors for this phone since it has round edges and the protector doesn't actually cover the edge. I have a "liquid" screen protector that I got for my Moto 360 a while ago but I've been too afraid to use it. The instructions it came with are very vague. Does anyone have experience with this stuff? (I've seen it used on other devices, supposedly)

So, I don't have any experiences, but I think that it have too work. As far as I know these liquid screen protecters work on all kinds oft glasses. But around the camera is maybe a slit where this liquid glass could come in, so take care
Sorry for my bad english, i'm from Germany
I also had a liquid screen protector for my previous phone. It was a bit scary and looked difficult to apply. But it was really easy. Also think that it protects better than glass screen protector, because of the finish. Front camera wasn't really a problem since it is a clear surface.

I'll give this a try
Had one of those but didn't like it.
Installed as well as that one with the edges hanging off, kept snagging it with my fingers.
Fitted well with the 2 styles of official cases (plastic and silicon) but wouldn't fit with a Spigen.
Also didn't like how the black borders on the sides took away screen real estate.
Using another style but still not enough coverage, just need 1 millimetre more and it would be perfect.

Screen Protectors, screen shape

I was wondering how screen protectors fit on the screen. All the screen protectors I look at mention that the screen has rounded edges. Does the screen round down right at the edge or is there a little space to add a screen protector properly?
I was wondering if it's like the iPhone. I know when I try to add a screen protector to an iPhone 6 there is no wiggle room because of the way the glassrounds off right at the edge of the "screen panel"

If you buy a good one, the screen protector ends at almost exactly where the glass curves away. I'm using Spigen's and they fit pretty nicely.

Does the glass curve away right at the end of the viewing panel/LCD screen or is there some space between the edge of the viewing panel and the curve.
It's hard to tell from the pictures and there are no stores close to me that have the HTC 10 on display so I can't even go look at one in person.

Here is a link to a thread over in accessories about the tempered glass screen protectors. A few people have gotten them but most, if not all, report halo.

Not sure if you can see them clearly tho. In the 3rd photo you can see where the screen protector ends. And that's almost where the glass starts to curve out.

Thanks for the pictures. I hat how companies are rounding the screens like that. Then the screen protectors can't cover the whole glass front.
I gave up on a tempered glass one for now and not a fan of PET, went with the Unicorn Beetle case which has a built on one and its decent. atleast the whole screen is protected. I don't use the fingerprint so I wish the hole for that wasn't there to prevent and dust from getting in there but o well. Its pretty tight against the screen. but its the plastic type which always wears out fast in my experience but its great for now.

Zagg Curve S8+ install/ first Impressions.

Picked up the last Zagg glass Curve and installed it today. Its great so far and the cut definitely supports most cases. I sampled a few cases that Best Buy carry and they fit to include the commuter Otterbox case. didn't have anothe phone to take fitment unfortunately. The included RED mounting guide allows for a perfectly centered installation

I went to Tmobile store today, had not 1, but 2 attempts by the store. Didn't see what he messed up on the first, seemed easy enough with the kit provided. Second one was a good install, visually, but the center became immediately unresponsive. The clickity issue came about. Hope you have better luck.
I used to install them when i work at Best Buy so it was easy for me. He may have bowed it which cause the loss of contact. I've been using for about 5 hrs with no issues. I will update if it does change tho.

NO ...THE ADHESIVE is around the edges only

All of the tempered glass screen protectors have the either adhesive on the top and bottom or all around the edges. But not on the entire surface... The good brands will use true silicon adhesive. While the cheaper ebay brands will use ****ty adhesive cutouts..

Are you referring to the adhesive area? If so no, the rest of the screen protector is completely unnoticable.

How does this hold up when the phone is wet? I'm worried about switching to tempered glass, since the adhesive is just on the edges, not sure if that would be sufficient enough to seal off water?

So, i got mine today and installed it on a phone fresh out of the box. I used the guide they send and it went smoothly. However, ive noticed a couple of things that i dont know if i can live with. First, the sensitivity in the middle of the screen especially the home button and middle keys on the keyboard seems to be slightly affected. I have to push just a little harder for things to be recognized which i find obnoxious. Im a fast typer and find that i am constantly going back and correcting almost any word that contains keys in the center 1/3 of the keyboard. Secondly, and this one about drove me batty, is that the corners seem to not adhere completely. This causes an audible click kind of noise but not all of the time. It took me most of the day to figure out that it was the screen protector and not some sort of weird keypress or something. I may have fixed that issue though but running the blow drier on high around the screen for about 15 seconds and then pressing firmly all the way around. So far it hasnt came back.
Anyone else experiencing any of these issues?
I'd stay away from Zagg there screen protectors arent as perfect as there retail price point would suggest.

My screen is still adhering to the sides but it has bonded lots more since the initial install. I have no issues with sensitivity, sorry you are having bad luck

Native Screen Protector?

Got my s20 ultra in the mail today! I had purchased a whitestone dome glass screen protector! but low and behold the s20 ultra has a film screen protector pre installed! I'm debating removing it for my nice tempered glass one as the fold had left a nasty taste in my mouth when people were removing it and it was breaking their screen. I wonder if this "native" protector will be the same. Ya this phone doesnt fold and its just a screen protector... but hey you never know!
So my question is are you going to replace the protector that came with the phone as soon as you get it?
From what I have seen, this screen protector is the same as the one that comes with the S10 line.
You will not damage the phone screen is you remove the preinstalled protector like you would on the fold.
To answer your overall question, I will keep it on until i receive my tempered glass screen protector.

Good to know! I kinda figured seeing as this is a "regular" phone that wasnt going to damage the screen. BUT you never know! Samsung did omit that information on the fold at the start. lol I will probably switch mine out.... I really dont like the feel of the film one.
I got mine today and the screen protector was all scratched up. It felt rough when I touched it. I was worried the actual screen was messed up so I peeled it off. It was just the film that was a problem. It would have driven me crazy. I kept the film on my Note 10 Plus and would have done the same here but I would have peeled it off eventually anyway.

I see even zagg does not have a real glass one. The owner does not use the fingerprint sensor.
