Ok, so I noticed yesterday that there's a small blue dot next to some contacts icons in the stock SMS app. I thought it was some indicator of who had video calling enabled, but it seems it's something else. Has anyone seen this?

It could be to merge some contacts that the app has detected has some of the same information.
So curious
I noticed this a couple weeks ago, but have yet to locate any info anywhere.

I checked again a few days ago, and noticed that most, not all, contacts with the dot had video calling enabled as per the video call icon. I wonder if it's indeed this that the dot points to.
My guess is that the blue dot has something to do with the device, as none of my blue dots show up for apple users. But there are still a few android who don't have the dot, even though other contacts who use samsung phones have them. One of the contacts has a very old phone(10 years old?) And still has that dot. Conclusion: the blue dots are for android users only, and there is no correlation between the contacts' info and call/text options and blue dots.
I am thinking it means they have the new updated messaging that lets you know when the message was delivered/sent/read.

Same here. I'm beginning to think it's a Samsung-only feature.
@Karen C is correct.
It means that contact is capable of receiving RCS messages, so more advanced features than SMS, more like WhatsApp.
If you send a message to a contact with a blue dot it will automatically be sent as RCS

However theres nothing else to report on, no RCS no features
Blue Dot Explained....
The contacts that have the blue dot have the chat messaging enabled on their android Samsung phone. That means when sending large messages it will show up as one long chat message instead of multiple small numbered messages.
It's not exclusive to Samsung. I'm on a Nokia phone. How bout Cricket Wireless?

Check under MMS settings in your Messenger app settings. I have it checked, but it does the same thing. I think its an iPhone to Android issue. It's happened to me on any device I've owned, especially when the first message originates from an iPhone.

Im curious to know if you've gotten this fixed? The reason is im using an lgg3 rom for the lgg2 and im on att. I also don't have group message unless i start the group message.
Anyone solved this yet? I have the same issue. Downloaded Google Messenger, same issue. I also don't see a setting for Group Messaging in the default messaging app or Messenger.
I had this problem and fixed it. I bought the Galaxy S7 Edge. I am an unfortunate Sprint user.
I have the stock messenger app from Google on my oneplus 3 and I get a notification badge for when I send a message. So when I text someone I get a notification badge and also when I go the the app the message I sent is in bold in the messages window. Anyone know how I fix this?

I guess that's "delivery report" - a confirmation that your message was successfully delivered. You can disable that in advanced settings in the app.

I am, but that shouldn't affect anything here.
The only major difference that I see from screenshots is the fact that you have 2 SIM cards and I only one.
What do you see when you select "general" in settings?
Or maybe one of the SIMs? I guess it would make sense if app has completely different settings for each SIM, so you should probably see my first screenshot after selecting one of the SIMs.

I'm trying to figure out why I can't get delivered and read reports when my friend and I text each other. We don't have this problem with anybody else. Just each other. This seems to be the only setting that could be causing the issue. Delivery and read reports are working with mms between the two phones but not sms. Alias seems to just be another version of your personal profile on the phone. Not too concerned about that function but it seems to be connected to since she doesn't have that setting either
Hmmm, just got my silver T-Mobile G7 ThinQ Friday and I don't have advanced messaging on it either.

I don't think it ever had wide angle in the front. That's why there's two lenses on the back.

It has always been a preference of mine to have a full screen image when calling someone. Rewind back some years, I believe maybe the Hyperdrive ROMs time period and this was the norm. I believe it's similar to what appears on iPhone during a call. Basically the full screen background is the contact pic of the person you are talking with. There was a mod available on XDA for my Note 8 I believe which dropped off with an OS update to Android 9 or so. I never have understood why Samsung keeps the contact pic so small, even when the sizes of the phones increased. Now, with the latest Android 11 and Samsung UI 3.0 update, there is an option to make a pic or video the background when making calls. So while this is heading the right direction, it's still not exactly there.
Anyone in the themeing world have any insight into this, as far as the capability to provide a full screen in call caller ID image as the background?

I was told by a couple developers that it wasnt possible after the Note 8 got updated, and moving forward. At least based off of the old method that was floating around for the Note 8. I feel like its setup at this point based off of the ability to add an image or video to the call screen. Just need some experienced help!

I think they threw that in starting with 3.0. I just hate the small contact pic. While I was able to customize the background with a default pic, Id rather have the contact pic utilize the screen. Tiho5 posted a link for an app that seems to work great so far. Pretty much fully customizable!
