Depending on the ROM, you may not need anything for root, otherwise install Magisk.

all you need to do is goto htc's dev site for unlocking http://www.htcdev.com/
no other steps are necessary if all you want is an unlocked device to allow apps root access... i think this is what you are asking

Wrong ! Unlocking the bootloader will not give you root acces .... Like guich said, unlock , flash a custom recovery , and push the superuser.zip to gain root acces .
This is the second post this morning i read from you where you give incorrect/strange advice ! Please stop that and search for the right answer first yourself
Thank you !

Stock recovery?

Hi,
Just wondering how to boot a 100% stock z1c into recovery? Does the bootloader need to be unlocked? Some instructions said to press volume up or down a few times when the notification light comes on, but the light doesn't turn on.
Sorry for the newbie question...

There is no stock recovery. You can install a custom recovery (e.g. CWM, TWRP, etc.) without unlocking the bootloader. There are a few tutorials on the forum.
That explains it! Thanks Chief.
It looks like unlocking the bootloader then installing Cwm is the easiest way to go. I'm not interested in Drm.

Keep in mind DRM keys = warranty. Your last sentence also means "I'm not interested in warranty"
Yeah, I'm tinkering with it. I thought that much was obvious!

As far as I understand you have to root your device first to install a recovery - i might be wrong though
Try here for a foolproof rooting method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900
In the "What you can do next" section there is a link to NUTs dualrecovery - works like a charm and is reaally easy to install.

uhm, not sure I understand what you want ... cwm recovery without twrp? what would be the downside of being able to choose between 2 recoveries?
You can install dualrecovery without unlocking your bootloader and get both philz & twrp. There is a link for installing cwm:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2620794
But for that one you need to unlock your Bootloader.
the recovery wont get installed if bootloader is locked...ps:most of the xperia devices

Xiaomi mi5s root and bootloader unlock?

Hey guys, i have been looking for a guide how to root our device and unlock the bootloader. I have found only guides for mi5 but are they diffrent than our phone? Or is it safe to say that they are the same and i can root the way they do it? And to unlock bootloader, i just wrote to xiaomi, or is there a easier way?
Thanks for help guys
Hi to unlock the bootloader you have to sign up on xiaomi website and sent them the request for approval there is no other way to do it. Once this is done (it takes a few days to get a reply) you can finally unlock the bootloader using xiaomi unlock app, flash twrp and then root the phone using SuperSU. I hope this helps.

But I didn't see twrp support for 5s, only for the 5. Same for supersu. Did you root your phone?

And SuperSU link sir?
For SuperSU you don't even need to disturb Google, just type supersu in the search box on the banener of this page.
Get the stable v2.79 flashable from TWRP zip.

[ROOT] Question regarding root access in the pie update and the working TWRP recovery

I didn't find any posts regarding this, if there is any then pardon me.
I've updated to the latest pie build and the twrp has also been updated to work on pie and it's almost fully functional. So, I just wanted to ask that can I directly flash magisk for getting root? Anyone tried this? And what are the potential problems than my phone can run into while or after installing magisk.
Thanks
You need to unlock your bootloader in any case if you want to flash magisk.....but if anything goes wrong you can have a really hard time getting it back working with a custom recovery....I don't see a reason why you wouldn't want to flash twrp after unlocking bootloader.

Thanks for you reply. I just wanted to know that did you unlock your bootloader while on Pie itself or was it already unlocked in oreo. Also after that any special steps were required for rooting in pie or the same steps of the rooting guide would suffice?

Asus unlock App only works on Oreo for now. I think we'll get one when the official P version for WW comes out.
No special step just do the same with Pie boot.img :good:

My phone's lost rooting.

Hi everyone, this is my first post
This winter I had decided to install the GCam on my Mi A2 lite, so I followed a guide (I'm not able to mod any phone) I managed to install the cam. To install that I obv needed to root my phone and indeed on Root Checker that was rooted. Some months later, the phone was automaticatly updated and after that I don't know how that lost his rooting and the possibilty to use Gcam (and other apps). I didn't want to do all the process again so I let that go.
Now I'd like to install the Pixel Experience ROM on my Xiaomi tho, but I read that I need to have root permission and the bootloader unlocked. My bootloader is already uncloked, because in developer's option, under "Unlock OEM" is written. "the bootloader's already unlocked."), but I have no root permission. I don't know what to do, because as I said I'm totally ignorant.
Can I install a custom recovery without root permission? How can I install the Pixel Rom? I need to root again my phone?
Thank you all for you help!

You need for sure an unlocked bootloader but regarding root although you don´t need it to flash a custom recovery nor a custom rom probably is better that you have it so you might need to do other things like install mods that need root.
Just flashing the Magisk you´ll recover the lost root status again but if you don´t have recovery now just boot on it through fastboot and then flash it over your actual rom or if you want the Pixel rom just follow the tutorial posted in the thread.

Do I need a TWRP Recovery tho? Because I read on some guides that's a requisite to instal Pixel Rom.
And please, can you link me the tutorial you mean? Because I can't find out that.

Yes, you need a custom recovery like TWRP and regarding tutorial there is a how-to-install method on every custom rom and also in the thread of a Pixel rom https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/development/rom-pixel-experience-t3911489 they´re just some few steps

To be honest I can't find where's the tutorial into that thread :crying:
Anyway I've just thought that maybe I've already have a TWRP. I did a lot of operations when I installed the GCam, so maybe I also did that. Is there a way to find out if I already have it?

Oh sorry since I don´t use PE rom nevermind there is not a tutorial there but you will find one here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi...0-ressurection-remix-os-xiaomi-mi-a2-t3954197 it´s the same process (more or less) for any custom rom.
If you are on a custom rom just booting using advanced power reboot you can go to recovery to see if it still stays there, also you can go manually using key combination (vol up + pwr from a device off) and you have too adb reboot recovery command to boot on it.
