Oreo poor cellular signal strength / reception - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

When I got my OnePlus 5t back in December 2017. I just went with FreedomOS 7.1 for a few months and the cellular signal strength was exceptional. I was on a call that stayed connected between two cities that no other phone I've had before would do and was amazed it didn't drop out.
Since changing various Oreo ROMs such as Ressurection Remix, LineageOS, Omni etc on all of them the signal strength has been far worse, not even close.
Does anyone know what could be the cause of these issues? Can Oreo be using different radios? Can the firmware or kernel affect this? I'm not an expert, but would just love to find out why this could be occurring.
I haven't tried the official OnePlus OS, but really don't want to change ROMs again. I'm using LineageOS currenlty, but have found the reception to be about the same with all Oreo ROMs I've tried.
As I live in a remote area and not in the city any assistance would be appreciated.

Being on the official ROM will not change anything, I also have a similar issue and another user too. We are on official OS and asking for help if it can be fixed.
Why can't you go back to freedom is if it provides great coverage for you?
Thanks

Weak wifi signal

I have an extremely weak wifi signal, I am only next door (About 1 meter away thru wall) - my laptop, nokia N95, PS3, nokia N97 and iPod have full bars but my phone has only 1.
My HTC Desire has a very low signal and often drops, when it drops I have to disable wifi and re-enable wifi else when its re-scanning it will never find the network.
This problem only occurs when using custom ROM (Currently using MIUI), I've concluded this by installing MIUI, Oxygen, GingerVillian and stock htc. Only in the stock HTC do I get full bars.
I have tested on all with recommended radios and stock radio. HTC ROM has full bars and never drops on all radios but the other ROMs have extremely weak signals even when using the recommended one.
Please help!
Noting the lack of replies on this issue, I'm only guessing that there is no real solution.
I also have found out that I must be on the wifi setting page for my phone to auto re-connect.
hi SMCentral,
found your thread while searching for weak signal cause.
feeding back to your test with different roms, i am on a stock rom (sw 2.29.405.5).
my wifi signal strength was very good last year as far as i remember, but recently suffering from very weak reception. i suspect a bad radio update over OTA. so different stock rom might differ. now i also have to go to wifi page to reconnect probably the signal seems too weak.

PS: Baseband version is 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
hope this helps someone to find the cause.
There is an update for the radio here (5.14.05.17). I downloaded the second file since it said it was safer to use. For me it's stable and nothing really happened but people are saying it has improved reception/signal.

I don't have problem with my signals whilst using stock rom but if I use a custom rom with any radio baseband and RIL, I get a very weak wifi signal. Try flashing the latest radio from http://www.mightyrom.com/mrx/MRX/Bravo/Radio/Signed/32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27.zip

I'll be trying this. Will feedback with results. Thanks buddy.
No issue for me regarding signal strength....
On a side note: I wish HTC had incorporated the wirless 802.11n standard to their WiFi module in the Desire...that has a far superior range and better bandwidth.
Yeah, if it had n support, it would of been amazing. Totally amazing.

Yup and would have stopped them selling more desire HD's with n capability. Sure it would have been nice if they had included it but that's life in the mobile phone marketing biz
No wait, after some research. HTC has hidden n capability. :O
I've flashed the .zip and well.. it works signal has become stronger too.
Just flashed the new radio , getting mmuc better wifi signal strength
Thankyou xD
You serious? They actually hid it??....that's so fiendish!!

[Q] Constant Signal Dropping on Cyanogen Based Roms

I've been having an issue on AOSP Roms where my Signal Strength can go from full to zilch and seconds later back to full. This constantly happens and seems to be worse over WiFi.
I have an unlocked LG G3 D851e from T-Mobile that I am using on AT&T Network. When using the stock ROM or using a Rom like Cloudy service is impeccable and does not drop.
From searching other threads i see to be sure SElinux is set to Permissive and it is. I have no battery saving apps or any app that could cause this.
Currently on SOKP unofficial 5.1.1
However I was on AICP, PA, and resurrection remix within the last few days.
Baseband: MPSS.DI.2.0.1.c.1.3-00053-M8974AAAAANPZM-1
Stock is too clunky and slow for me ( Same with Cloud) however with my service dropping i miss calls, have poor call quality, and text messages seem to come in delayed.
--Note--
This has happened on my Note 3 Unlocked HLTETMO where i ended up selling the phone recently and started using this only to have the same problem.
Surely there is someone else having a similar issue!? Or someone who knows how to fix this ?
I have been having the same issue since 5.1 came out. I have yet to find a fix. Going back to stock helped but as you stated stock is ugly and very awkward. I guess we will have to hold on and see if it gets sorted out.
This isn't device related, I'm having this issue on the Oneplus One and G2 also. Even my moms nexus is doing it. All of us are on T-Mobile, wonder if its our network

I'm on AT&T with an Unlocked T-Mobile phone. It is ONLY on AOSP Roms, stock roms work fine. It did happen on my Note 3 that was also T-mobile that I unlocked and used on AT&T. Something happened early into lollipop that caused this, as ROms pre lollipop worked fine. It is the most frustrating thing to me, and it is the reason I plan on getting a Nexus/OP2 very soon. Unless Android M comes on the G3 and fixes the issue.

cm-12-20150214-UNOFFICIAL-endeavoru-big. No phone signal

Hi all
Am running cm-12-20150214-UNOFFICIAL-endeavoru-big on my HTC One X International Version. All went well for a week. Now the phone signal is really low. In fact mostly there is not signal at all.
Anyone have this experience? And a fix?
Thanks
Well, this is a pretty outdated version and i would suggest you to upgrade on cm 12.1. Since then many big bugs has been fixed.

Thanks, installed resurrection remix. So far so good. Nice ROM

software version impact on signal strength and connectivity?

Recently purchased a used sprint note 4... And I'm in love. I had a s5 that was dying a slow death. I love the spen and larger screen... This is indeed the perfect phone!
When I purchased the phone, it was on base qb3. I was having problems with root/rom/sms and I flopped around for a while.
Currently on base pg1 with a stock (mod) 6.0.1 rom.
I've been having problems with signal dropping, occasionally missed sms/mms and poor connectivity.
My question is..
How much of an influence does the base have on signal reliability? I have searched around and I can't seem to find d a solid answer.
Which 'modem' provides the best/stable connection?

I can't say from experience or speak for everyone else. But 2 people i know personally like PK1. But i think that has more to do with being friendly with more custom roms.

Thanks for your input!
I'm hoping someone might now if the base software has any impact on the strength of the antenna... ie - how good/stable the phone connects to sprint.
On pg1, I'm seeing dropped signals without valid explanation. (places my s5 had great signal... Note 4 is barely connecting)
Wanted to follow up...
Went from mm to nougat (lineageos) to mm.... Finally went to lollipop.
Baseband does have a direct impact on signal strength/reliability.
While the note 4 is inferior to the signal strength on my previous s5 (same spots at work, etc)... Going down to lollipop has eliminated dead spots I was experiencing in mm.
Interesting find. I was on pj1, i got decent lte signal in my room at home. When i leave for work i roam, which sucks, but whenever i come back from work I'm stuck on 3g. 3g for days. Pk1 seems to have gotten the lte to stick... I'll know more when i go to work tomorrow.

Poor interest?

It have been almost a year since mi max 3 came out. Why there is such poor development, people are not interested in it compared to max and max 2.
There is no single custom rom for mi max 3.Xiaomi is way too slow with updates.I have a feeling that for an average Joe in Android community the better option is ios ecosystem. At least you can't go wrong with os support and regular updates. And there will always be an jailbreak if you want to go custom. Apple or jailbreak community have insanely way way way better support compared to Android. Did also anyone noticed annoying ads on Miui that xiaomi is pushing on their integrated system apps ,is driving me crazy.
The xiaomi.eu rom is custom, isnt it?
And do we need custom roms if we have treble?
A great kernel would be awesome
Something developed just for the Mi Max3 is always better than a GSI
I'm using HavocOS right now and there hasn't been a real update to it since last October.

Yes, there are some things that don't work as good with a "vanilla" treble instead of a rom with blobs just for this device.
Some of which are bad enough for me to go back to xiaomi.eu rom instead.
The most notable things are
Viper4android, when the screen is off there is a stutter and change in volume when the module is killed and started again and this happens every few minutes which gets annoying and I instead played music from my laptop while working.
This was a common thing back with lollypop and kitkat on other phones back in the day but not as annoying as with the mi max 3.
On xiaomi.eu this is nonexistent which is kind of unusual, the rom is unusual stable with Viper4android.
Volte does not work on treble of course, but on pie based treble you will get hsdpa data connection when calling.
On aicp-mordiford the data connection shut off completely without hsdpa data while calling.
How is GPS performance for you on havoc?
For me I get four satellites in a village with poor signal to all off them which is not enough for a position lock.
I have been driving one time and I lost GPS several times.
On Xiaomi.eu GPS is working flawlessly with a lock immediately even indoors in a concrete building.
If you have a generic board like a pixel device or one plus you probably can get a fairly working device but xiaomi does things differently and depends on a custom rom for working volte
I generally don't care, stock ROMs used to be terrible and lack many feature. The stock Xiaomi rom does exactly what is needed for me so I find no need to flash potentially unstable ROMs on my device. I used to flash weekly even daily. I don't need to anymore.
all we need just pie kernel since EU rom has been amazing for me
GPS hasn't been very good for me since I switched away from xiaomi.eu rom. I'm also using micro-g so I can't blame havoc.
