I have read conflicting reports that some say 4.3 is GOOD on battery for our VZ nexus and some say it was horrible....
what are your findings? better? worse? same?
Most battery comments are subjective in nature.
If you perceive worse battery life then try a different kernel or get a new battery.

I tried 4.3 and it was faster and with different kernel like mpokang it had good speed and battery life compared to 4.2.2. You just need to make sure you turn off wi-fi scanning even when off and something else in search or 4.3 will suck the battery down. My only complaint is my favorite ROM it's still 4.3 and the 3G to 4G tower switching doesn't work properly and as I travel allot this is a deal breaker for me as it drops calls so had to go back to 4.2.2 ROM. I heard the ROM's that are updated to 4.3.1 don't have the radio issues. This issue is also only on Verizon due to no new radio's yet from what I understand.
I've been using the Galaxy Nexus strictly on wifi for a while now. I recently updated it to 4.3, and while performance is GREAT, battery life is suffering, but I've felt no need to change anything because I'm always near a charger.
For me it's only been a bit of an improvement during regular every day use. Although If I try I can actually go almost a full day with one charge.
When i charge it peeps my phone
I was using 4.3.1 and battery seemed stellar. The radios is the big problem. It doesn't like bouncing between cells and 4G didn't seem to work.

I revisited slim 4.3 build 2 seems to be working good will see Monday when I go to work and start jumping towers. Really want to be on PA but didn't work good for me and hasn't been updated in awhile. Hopefully Verizon releases 4.3 and they will revisit and fix it. I think us toro users are not going to get a good kit kat because of Verizon radio deal

Lmao @4.3. Try 4.4 on ART. I've been on it all of a day but wow! You should have flashed 4.3 a long time ago. Its old news. Battery AND speed are crazy with ART. Could be placebo so I'm gonna wait a week or two to pass judgement but so far so good.

Is that a Verizon rom? Because it's the Verizon that was only updated to 4.2.2 and has issues with 4.3+
I looked through the Verizon Dev forums but nothing as you described. If a 4.3+ rom has a fully working non-wonky cellular radio, then please link.

Yes its a Verizon ROM. I don't think any of the 4.3 ROMs had RADIO issues. The Verizon Nexus was Updated to 4.3 through asop including Binaries so there shouldn't be radio issues.
A couple people are reporting issues with 4.4 but it looks like they didn't flash new radios.
Maybe we aren't talking about the same thing? Could you link what you are talking about?
If you want me to link all the ROMs with working radios on 4.3+ that would be to many ROMs.

This is probably true. I don't have any problems in my home town but in was in another big city and I had great signal but often kept finding my phone unable to grab a data connection. I had to keep resetting to restore it. Toggling airplane mode wouldn't resolve it.
The only I could think of is I was going through a nonserviced area and dropping data and it never reconnecting.

Not sure where the 4.4 comment came from...especially since there aren't any stable 4.4 Roms for the GNex yet.

There are some slight graphical issues and reboots but for being dropped by Google the 4.4 ROMs aren't bad. Hopefully with the new GPU Binaries from TI those issues can get fixed.
The 4.4 comment came from the fact the OP is asking about 4.3 while 4.4 is being tested. I was pointing out he's a little late to the game and to get on it!! :silly:
Feels the same to me, same crappy GNex battery life lol
But it's not worse if that's what your wondering OP
Back on 4.2.2 4.3 still had some small data issues in low signal areas. Really the only thing I want is Bluetooth from 4.3 it works right and id tags come through to my stereo. Wonder if it can be back ported.

I've had my Galaxy Nexus almost since the beginning, and I've tried a lot of roms.
You probably notice a lot of stuttering and general slowness on your Gnex. The Gnex was fine on 4.0. Something happened in 4.1, and it became slow as death. The only thing that ever seemed to fix this was doing a factory reset on your phone, wiping the data, and reinstalling your rom. People came up with varying ways to fix this slowness problem (root always required, of course), including modifying the dalvik heap growth limit and readahead sizes. Other people used a program called LagFix in the Play Store that basically was a manual TRIM, because there was a problem with certain Samsung phones where they refused to trim the filesystem.
Jelly Bean 4.3 fixed all of that. Google committed some changes to the source that built trim into Android. To put it in perspective, my random read speeds on my phone were 0.4 Mb/sec before installing 4.3. My speeds now are 1.6 Mb/sec. Sequential read/write improved by an order of magnitude.
If you're not on Android 4.3, yet, you really need to do it. Android 4.3 helped my battery life not necessarily because it inherently consumes less power, but because it dramatically improved my I/O speeds; when my phone wakes, it doesn't have to wake as long to access random pieces of storage.
On top of this, ever since I can remember, the radio switchoff between Wi-Fi, 1X, 3G, and 4G on the Verizon Galaxy Nexus has been atrocious. Ever since I got the phone, it would regularly take me 30 seconds to a minute for data to come back up as soon as the phone switched to a different wireless standard. The latest Shiny rom (10/11/13) finally was able to fix that, so my radio switches happen in less than 10 seconds, now.
Finally, I've tried random kernels, including Franco, Trinity, Lean, Tiny, Golden, and GLaDOS. All of them have affected battery life and speed marginally and in various ways (and some of them caused me a lot of reboots after a week, or so, of use), but the one that has really--actually--improved the snappiness of my phone has been the BIGMEM version of Fancy Kernel. Fancy Kernel's thread is here; I'm running on version pre44-3-big.
Does anyone know if there will be any custom roms available for the Sprint variant of the S4 mini (SPH-L520) anytime in the near future? I cannot stand the stock Samsung Touchwiz. Mine is rooted and ready to go...... THANKS!!!
I Hope So
I have been looking everyday to see if there is possibly a rom for this! I got mine about 2 weeks ago and i hate the stock launcher so ive installed Apex which is always nice for me. We really need to get a 4.4 rom for this going. Rooting this device was very easy! Hope to see something soon!
I'm doing pretty much the same. I Check daily or every other day. I'm using the Kit Kat launcher and enjoying a bit. Hopefully we'll see something sooner rather than later.

Woooow Im surprised nobody has posted any kind of feedback this isnt cool. Really want a new rom! Currently running Themer Beta which is ok.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2669991
It may be worthy to note that it does seem like serranoltespr will soon get official CM support, which will hopefully spark more ROMs to be built for this variant
There is a CyanogenMod ROM that was ported to the Sprint S4 mini, not sure what the link is but I'm using it and it works good. For anyone waiting for official kitkat 4.4 are going to be sad. Sprint is dropping this phone and therefore support will begin to fade away. There most likely will be no update for the Sprint SPH-L520, so if you want to upgrade to the latest version of android, you'll have to look up the CyanogenMod port.

Sharing
GeekVader
I apologize for reviving a year old post, but...hopefully I can get my phone operational.
Can you share the files that you used to put CM11 on your phone?
I recently put CM11, and had to revert back to stock. The reasons:
Insane battery usage ( 10% per hour phone just sitting with fresh install: many wakelocks mmc1_detect, 1023, etc just burning thru the battery )
Cannot send MMS due to an APN bug
trebuchet theme stopped working
There could be more, but I had to give up.
Now Im back with the crappy stock rom, and some of the bloatware particularly visual voicemail is intercepting notifications from sprint's voice mail.
Thx
It was a bit frustated when waiting for major update from LG for our lovely G Pro. Although using stock rom is enough, but we need more to optimise the device.
I have been using some kitkat custom roms and decided to use one of the for day to day use. My impression so far is that I wil not go back to stock unless big problem happen to my phone (i.e. when I need to go to service center ?).
So, currently I just waiting for nightly updates or other kitkat new custom rom coming ☺
How about you, guys?

I got an update notification on my stock rooted phone this morning... Still nervous about installing it.
I like AOSP roms, but I find they favor having the latest android base over working out all of the bugs. Which in turn means extra features, but lack stability. I usually find the best Roms for a phone (AOSP or stock mod) match the android base of the stock.
Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
There are not too much options for Korean Variant F240x so unless there comes some stable custom rom had to stick with the stock.
I'm using CM 11 as it has DSP working and most custom ROMs do not.
I still wish LG would release an update for us.
The only problem I have with the ASOP and CM based roms is stability. Some have good battery life, some are feature packed, some have working navigation, some have a hard time locking or issues with sound.
I have yet to find one that just works in all aspects. That's what keeps me going back to stock. Even the G2 V5 had issues for me with signal reception (yes I flashed my modem again) and wifi transfer speeds. The only one that has it all working perfectly is the stock 4.1.2.
I wish we had more customization on that base E980 stock rom kernel tweaks and things like that, but I understand the allure of 4.4 roms versus spending dev time on an outdated build. For me though, having a phone that works consistently is more important. That's not to say there is anything wrong with the ASOP and CM roms, I just haven't found one that just works. Especially when it comes to GPS.
I see that there is the 4.2.2 update from China and I hope a Dev or 2 takes a look at that, or the new Gx that is very similar to the G Pro in hardware. Hopefully there is an option to port that to our G Pro. We'll see. For now, I still enjoy my G Pro and really have no desire to purchase anything else on the market right now.

Yep. If you are rooted and have CWM or TWRP recovery installed and you attempt to update you will get stuck in a recovery boot loop. If you are stock, non-rooted, and you install the AT&T update you will NOT be able to root - the update blocks rooting. IMHO there is nothing of value in the AT&T update. Wherever you are, stay there.

is it an auto update? I'm on slimbean 4.3. is there a thread about this to disable anything to avoid the update coming through?
I have been running the cm nightlys now for several days it has proven quite stable does a great job multitasking and running game apps. for battery life i downloaded no-frills cpu control and set the cpu to interactive. also has an option to apply on boot so when rebooting the phone it does not return to on demand. Getting 8 to 12 hrs battery life (6 with heavy gaming) and battery recharges in 2 to 4 hrs depending on which charger i use stock or aftermarket. I am very happy with cm11 at this point and been getting daily updates adding features and fixing issues. I also have run the halo harmony rom which works very well but battery life is short 4 to 6 hours heavy gaming have drained battery in 3hrs but halo interface is nice. As far as stock lg filled this thing with way to much bloat ware and even with it all disabled phone is still slower then what it is capable of being. I love they way this device runs on kit kat and will continue to run the cm nightys until they release a stable.
---------- Post added at 12:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:50 AM ----------
You should also know no matter which Kit Kat rom you are running you will need to do this from your dialer go to setting and select vibrate on call waiting. None of the roms have a working call waiting ringer yet but the vibrate function does work but must be selected manually after installing rom.
I have been plagued with the muffled in-call mic problem on any AOSP/CM based ROM. That has been the driving factor for staying on stock-based.

Thanks for this update.
I was searching high and low to see if the phone mic issue had been resolved. Many others have experienced it but nobody ever followed up.
This was the one issue that was holding this phone back (no matter what ROM). I'm told that the mic volume is useable - with a little bit of cutting in and out. Not 100% perfect yet, but useable.
Well, I already knew the device likely wasn't going to be getting an upgrade. I bought it as a temporary device. I bought a Note III last week, and am in the process of selling my G Pro.
I do miss some features from it, mostly the 5x5 home screen grid and the actually usable universal remote app built-in, but the S-Pen features outweigh them.

I had to use LG FlashTools after a freegee fiasco switching from TWRP to CWM, and ended up on stock 10k. Completely stock, no custom recovery, just 4.1.2 and rooted. If you attempt to install the update already rooted WITHOUT a custom recovery it just gives some message about root detected and reboots back normally.

I have a D855. I got it just over a year ago. It works great and apart from a few software headphone bugs, it's fine.
My friend bought a G3 from an importer. He suffered problems with the display lifting up and the headphone jack not working. He suspected it was refurbished.
Other than that, great phone. If you get it from a legit place.
2.5yrs on 4.4.2, never been to service center except for the common hairline crack issue. Battery replaced once only after 2yrs. But recently updated to 6.0 becos of sim card removal error, now troubleshooting whether it's a hardware problem.
Hellow friends....
It's been a long time since i ve been using T-Mobile lg g3 but right now i an facing a problem on my device....
Whatever rom i tried my phone always started random rebooting on GSM MODE. I don't know how to fix this...
Switching to WCSMA ONLY fixed the problem for a while but in my area the WCDMA signals are not pretty good and i normally use WiFi so i need to stay on GAM for better connectivity and calls.....
Any help on how to fix these reboots????
Thanks
