i jus got the dash and was wondering is ther n e way 2 get tv on it without havn cable/satellite at home. really im soo jealous of every1s dash..like can someone help me pimp mine out =[
u need tcpmp player and/or blue ray to watch streaming video. i havent done it yet cuz i dont really use web on mine, but i dont think its that big of a deal cuz its kinda laggy of the ones ive seen. but if u really want it that bad, get wifi running on ur dash and look for web sites that have streaming video, like youtube or cnn.
congrats on getting the dash and not going main stream and getting the curve. once u know how to use the dash, its so much fun using it for just bout everything on a smartphone.
well, first thing u wanna do is to update ur rom to 'kavana.rickywytt.080330'. i know theres a lot of reading but u have to so u dont brick ur new dash. after u do that then come back to this in a few days. thats what i would do. thats what i did when i got my dash a month ago. well, my 1st update was the brightpoint 1.33. anyways this is the best time to get a dash so much fun!
I would suggest not upgrading the rom until your used to the phone.
Also for streaming TV, you can try MobiTV, they have some live TV feeds, also Vtap is great for Youtube.
For radio Live365 is awesome.
You can also go to www.orb.com to get some internet TV stations and also stream your own media from your PC to your phone. The software is free.

Orb is a little quirky sometimes, when it works it's great, when it doesn't, you find out you recorded 6 hours of PBS pledge drives.
Seriously, I've used it, it works pretty well.

Well since he stated that he didnt have cable or satellite at home...it'd really suck buying a TV tuner and hooking up a pair of "rabbit ears" to it or having to buy a DTV tuner. Which is why i stated internet TV channels / vs. the need for a PC Tv tuner..even if the Internet channels are a bit limited and not localized
EDIT: Have discovered the problem is my bebox router, read post #10 for more details if you're having the same problem I did......

Hi guys, i've been looking around for the past 2 days including searching through these forums for ages and I can't quite find the answer i'm looking for. A few threads have come close but don't really help because they're not
specifically about this problem.
I've got the Touch HD it came installed with pvplayer,
when I go to the BBC iPlayer mobile site the videos hang on the connecting screen.
I've seen a video of the htc Touch HD running Iplayer but the media player the browser links to isn't the one I have.
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=1902#comment-10175
That's the page I saw the video on.
I tried installing the Htc Streaming Media app, if i'm running that i get it
to buffer and I get audio but no video.
The toolbar also looks really small and it's garbled on the bottom right hand side of the screen. so i'm thinking I might have an old version or something.
So the question is.....
Does anyone know what player the guy in the video is using?
and if it's a different version of the Htc Streaming Media app
where can I get it.
Any help appreciated, oh and sorry if it's covered elsewhere, i've been going through these forums for ages trying to find it but all the answers seem to be relating to old hacks before the BBC started supporting the phone or people
going "runs great now" without saying what they're using to do it.
(originally posted in the general discussion by accident, no flaming please)
EDIT: I've been told by someone at wmpoweruser that it's the default player that comes with the phone, strangely I've never seen it, now i'm wondering
if there's a specific build from orange without the player. I don't want to do a hard reset to check just yet (i've spent the last week getting everything on there
that I need and I don't feel like starting from scratch)
if anyone knows of a .cab file with the "default" htc streaming app for the touch HD i'd really appreciate it. Thanks
Ive got mine from orange and it is included, and iplayer works.
I think it only works over wifi though, i could get it to work over 3g or when plugged into my PC.
Mike.
I got mine from orange too, but it hangs on the loading screen.

what player is it using to stream?
mine automatically goes to pvplayer, I can't find the htc default software anywhere.
pvplayer just stops at connecting.
Having the same problem.
iPlayer launched PVPlayer and then it just hangs on "Connecting...."
Phone from Orange also.
im on orange and it seems to work fine, still in 'Beta' tho.
Catinthehat: Does yours load up in PVPlayer or a different video player?

I get the same stuck on connecting when using m.youtube.com
(coreplayer can do it but I wanted to check the player was working)
are you using a bebox router? i've seen someone else on wmpoweruser had
the same problem, switched routers and it worked.
i'm on bebox too but don't have a spare router to check.... maybe thats
the problem.
I am using a bebox router which may be the issue.
I did manage to get audio using an old version of the HTC Streaming Media Player but no video and the menu's were all corrupt.
I'll try from different wifi

ok cool let me know how you get on.
i don't want to go buying a router just to check
EDIT:
Discovered it's almost definately the router.
i've gone back to the standard pvplayer and I think it should work without tweaks with a different router.
to explain why i think that's the case i'll explain
i had to do a few things.....
while stuck on connecting using wifi I copied the stream file from the opera tempdownload folder
to my storage card
because pvplayer will delete a temp stream from iplayer after you stop it (confused me for a bit
because i couldn't figure out where iplayer sent em and the other streams from different sites hadn't deleted themselves)
I zipped the file in a temp folder then extracted
it again so i'd keep a copy.
I turned off wifi and turned on my data connection.
I then ran the stream file with pvplayer... it got past connecting!!
buffered and started to run.... ok it stopped every 2 seconds to rebuffer for about 10 seconds so it was unwatchable
because it's meant to be a wifi quality stream and i was running on 3g but it actually got past connecting!
so it must be my bebox router not letting me connect....
interesting side note that i discovered
you can probably run iplayer without using wifi if you grab the stream file at a wifi spot
then copy the file to a different place ... probably work ok on hsdpa connection
haven't had chance to check yet. :>
You can try this.

Awesome app - still in 0.4 and a bit buggy but works in WVGA!! Best picture possible.
To stream use with tcpmp http://rghost.ru/40265 or coreplayer. Just ensure in those apps in permissions you add .mov files as assosicated otherwsie it will just download them.
RipNard
thanks for the heads up just edited my last post to explain that it's almost definately my router, i've been keeping track of that iplayer app and posting back to craftyb the bugs for the touch hd
also edited my first post to explain that i've discovered the problem (probably usefull for someone, i wish more people would do the same )
ive worked out why it hangs....
its to do with ports and blocking them, at my girlfriends i connect to iplayer via wifi, (also with the pvplayer app on orange branded handset)
i need to find out which ports need to be open so i can add the app to the router, that or try get the silly router app to not be so strict!!

uses streamiing media for ppc. standard with stock touch hd.
Bebox & iplayer.

Hi Zooby, I can confirm that its definitely the bebox. I have the 700 series speedtouch. I disconnected it and used a friends netgear modem and could stream iplayer beautifully to my HD and Polaris. The solution apparently is to forward ports on the bebox for the hd and apply the chosen port settings to htc streaming player. I couldnt get it to work so i bought a netgear dg834gt. The dg834n works well too. If you figure out how to port forward the bebox for the Touch HD, please let us know.

i've tried a few different port ranges already, i saw someone on another thread talking about a specific range working but it didn't work for me
(the guy tried 4105 - 4125)
i've searched through forums and iplayer tech support pages for the ports iplayer mobile uses, can't seem to find them.
google is not my ally on this one.
will login to Be forums at some point see if anyone there has had the same problem.
I hope I don't have to buy a new router, I only just finished messing around with it to open up the last ethernet port to use on xbox live (for some reason the last port was reserved for other uses as standard).
I think that last port is used by Be techies when you authorise them to remote access your Bebox if you need help with a fault etc. I did search the Be forums a while back but nothing useful. I bet it's something really simple though. The problem is getting information from someone who's got it working. Someone on Be in the Uk, using a Bebox, has a pda phone and accesses iplayer(from within the UK). A bit of a tall order, i think.

yeh i know but i had an extra non wifi device i needed to put on.....
i've checked bebox forums, nobody seems to have a clue.
pretty much everyone on there is buying a different router.
i've tried a few options with the router, i just can't seem to open it up.
(changed firmware 3 times, telnet to change nat, specific ports related to the iplayer download manager... trust me... loads of things.)
i'm not gonna go buying a new router just to watch iplayer while in my house since i can do that from my pc anyway, for anyone that desperate to watch it from home on a bebox router.... buy a new router.
A fix is here at post 195

myPlayer will stream the BBC iPlayer content over wifi or 3G. It is now also compatible with the ITV Player.

Dear Smart People,
I current have a a 2 TB HD and a 1 TB HD in a jbod setup going to my airport extreme (older model). The drives are both formatted with mac os x journaled since thats what the airport supports. When I launch xbmc it takes between a minute to 4 minutes to load certain files. It streams fine from 1channel and other online sources. I have tried running a cat 5 cable to the fire tv from the router and that still has slow load times. I have gone so far as to buy a new HD enclosure. I need your guys help to figure out why the load times are so bad. Any ideas will defiantly be helpful.
Best Regards,
Josh
Latest Information
alright guys,
after hours of testing I realized if I got thru the video tab then to files and play my file thru there it loads very very quickly. I was hoping someone could shed some light on the fact that if I got thru the TV Shows tab of confluence it takes a long time to load. I really could use some help since I am stumped. Can't wait to see what people say!
Josh
How are you adding files -- smb share, UPnP?
they are connected to an airport extreme using the AFP file sharing. this worked perfectly on my ATV. I have done some internet research and have found out that the database maybe corrupt after it scans the files in since it loads very fast from the files menu. Please let me know how to fix this. I have a pastebin with my log file
UPDATE:
I have changed the location of the files to use SMB and now it appears to be working very well. Thank you so much for everyones help!
Stupidly bought a FireTV Stick with the intention of putting it in the offpsrings room so they can watch stuff from my Plex server in their own rooms.
Installed Plex, it wants to activate, £3.99, fair enough, bought it, it then says I can't watch stuff until I activate it, so I try again and it just errors..
Plex forums are about as much use as a fart in a cullender, so ended up here..
Any root or custom ROM options for the stick so it actually becomes useful?
Same LAN network correct?
I've noticed that if Plex uses a WAN address it behaves differently and nags for money. If your on a local network and you've attached to the correct server than you should be good to go.
Maybe you've already done this but make sure you are connected to the correct server and on your local network. And also if the content is HD make sure you are using h.264 encoding. I've noticed the firetv stick struggles with MPEG2 HD.
I've got my Plex server locally with a static as well as the FireTV stick having a static IP, the problem lies in the fact that you cant get Plex to work for more than a minute, says it needs activating, charges you the £3.99 then when you try to play something it again says it needs activating, try to activate it a second time and it errors...
Might have to go down the sideloading Kodi or similar although I would prefer something that just launched straight in rather than having to go into Settings, Apps, Manage Apps then fire kodu up from there, hence the request for some sort of custom ROM...

I can't say much about plex. I tried it. It was good to very good, depending on my device, but kodi is better in my opinion. However, if that tedious navigation in getting to the app is really your only issue, you can use llama to put it right on the recent section, or boot right to it. Adbfire makes the setup simple. There's also firestarter that allows side loaded apps on the home screen.
I've been using Plex for years and I'm pretty regular on the forums, and I agree, the issue with the repeated activation requirement doesn't seem to fix itself. Here is the most complete thread on the subject (http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/151349/app-already-purchased-but-still-prompting-for-activation/p1), I seem to remember that the main suggestions are (1) do a factory reset on the stick, (2) contact Amazon, and (3) PM one of the Plex devs with your amazon account name and maybe the receipt info from the app purchase (I don't remember the details of that). Like ldeveraux I have a Plexpass membership, that seems to provide the magic to avoid the issue (but I'm not promoting the purchase, the price now is kind of high).
Kodi+PlexBMC+Amber Skin works very well and looks similar to Plex Home Theater, sideloading is pretty easy (http://sideloadfiretv.com/sideload-apps-amazon-fire-tv-windows), and I think it's just a better solution to avoid any issues with surround sound.
Firestarter (http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/themes-apps/app-root-home-launcher-replacement-app-t3118135) is an awesome app to easily access your sideloaded apps.
Ahh, llama might sort me out then if I can boot the stick straight to Kodi/XBMC, dont have a Plexpass here which might be why its working for you guys and not me..
Just made an order for my first OnePlus (3) and jumping from SGs5. I have had loads of luck rooting and flashing with my last model and will surely run the OP3 for a while before diving in to rooting the OP3.
But with serching around I seam to not be able to find many options with using the OP3 as a media hub to my TV. It seams the best way is to just use Googles Chromecast. Or Microsofts Mirorcast.
My problem is i wanted to use my unlimited data plan and NOT use a cable or wifi provider to do this....i.e. just plug and stream to the TV. (Comcast is the only provider in my aria and i hate them for my own reasons).
So questions:
1. What are you using to use your OP3 to provide content on your NON smart TV?
2. Can we use a cable to a HDMI adapter? (I heard no)
3. Have any Devs been working around this, and have a work around?
4. Are there other options that i should be looking at?
5. Am i just forced to get a smart tv and internet to make this happen??
Thank you for taking your time for helping me out and dealing with my nubeiness. I really appreciate any help, and sorry if this has been asked before but i didnt find much on this topic.
Cheers,
Damien
I just have a Roku that I sling my content to. But you obviously need some type of wifi set up for this to work. Not sure how you could get your cellphone data to the Roku...but maybe you could run it through a hotspot you activate on your new OP3.
Edit:. Not sure...but maybe something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191595161272

Have you checked out google cast? I am using the latest version and compatible with all android devices including OP3.You can mirror your screen via google cast app and I am happy with it. It is portable and cheap.
