Verizon S8+ no signal - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Verizon S8+ G955U 8.0.0
Recently got a S8+ new from store about 3 weeks ago. phone has not been rooted or altered. For about three straight days my phone has been either having extremely poor signal or most of the time no signal at all. I did some troubleshooting rebooted phone but non of that seemed to work. I even adjusted some of the settings in network options and still no success. I ended up taking it back to the store to request a new sim card. About 10 minutes after leaving the store, issues with signal started all over again. I later on that night did a factory reset, and still no luck. Verizon will be mailing me a new phone, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this signal issue to this degree, any insight would be greatly appreciated
Thanks ,
J

my signal issues started when i got the new update. I have changed settings from global to lte/cdma and it helped slightly but I still have bad signal

Yes, I have no signal since this weekend. Check your *#0011# menu, did your MIPI device fail? Mine did

[Q] Cannot stay connected to any LTE bands. Need advice and ideas please.

Okay, here's the problem. Since June 3rd my phone will not stay connected to 4g. I toggle airplane mode and I instantly lock on to 4g. Signalcheck reads between -109 and -115. This is normal for me at home. Until the 3rd I could hold that lte 1900mhz (band 25) and never drop it unless i went further into my home. I almost never get band 41 unless Im closer to a tower. Band 26 is nonexistant in Buffalo (too close to canada).
Since then I toggle airplane mode and can lock on to LTE 25 (same signal strengths) but it drops to eHRPD 3g every single time.... Within 10-15 seconds. Same happens when I reboot.
I am running full stock, stock recovery, ZVG, and the G2 is rooted.
I have tried:
Disabling band 26 and 41. And connecting to any combination of them on/off.
Modifying the bsr timer, etc.
Updating prl, profile, and even reactivation many many times.
Factory reset on ZVG, 3x.
Full TOT back to ZVE, unrooted. (Still same problem even on ZVE, unrooted and yes I never had this issue on ZVE before updating to ZVG the first time.)
Redownloaded ZVG and reinstall after TOT, no improvement.
Called sprint and have been working with engineers in Oklahoma city office. They swear up an down its not a tower issue, or a eCSFB problem.
I have the same problem even away from my home towers.
I have opened the device to inspect for damage, or moisture, there is none I can see.
I havent dropped it hard, or exposed it to any water that I can think of.
So anyone have any ideas on what I should try next, or do to get my 4g to stick?
Im a bit at a loss. Ive tried every setting, trick, or troubleshooting step I can think of.
Thanks in advance for any help or knowledge you can provide.
For anyone that may have a problem like this in the future I solved my issues by having sprint send me a new sim card. Being that I bought my g2 the day it was released I guess maybe my sim went bad. It was a long shot and my last ditch effort to get 4g back. I now have a steady 4g signal.
Thanks for posting what fixed it for you. I've also been having this same problem for about the last 2 weeks. It just won't hold LTE. I'll stop by my local Sprint store today for a new sim and hopefully that does the trick for me as well.
Unfortunately even with the new sim card the problem returned after a few days. I called Sprint and asked them to put in a dummy sim number to unregister the sim, and then re-add the sim back. It fixed the problem immediately once again.
Frankly, I dont understand what the problem is. I know its related to the sim card but I havent reset (powered down) my phone in a week. Im kinda worried the problem will come back if I do. Cant see it being a bad sim reader in the phone. Otherwise it wouldnt start working on 4g again after resetting it via sprint.
Im stumped.
I can always call sprint and have them reset the sim again but Id rather know if its some kind of bug that will be fixed. I contacted LG and they acted like I am outta my mind.

random loss of signal

I have a 128gb pixel XL with Verizon, which I purchased through verizon as well. Randomly at times just as I'm going to place a call it will start ringing and then disconnect and it will show loss of signal. This has also happened while I was on a call. I'm on the latest firmware as well. Has any body else ran into this issue?
I ran into this last night. I'm a sprint customer with pixel xl ordered from Google. I am on V software. It could just be the fact it's only connected to one 4g band which has low strength in the area we were at during the drop times. Mine hasn't done it since last night might have been in a dead zone
Yes, this has happened many, many times to me. I have a replacement coming that hopefully will take care of it.

For me its switching from band 13 to band 4.
I don't have this issue at all on TMO but in my area (Chicago) TMO is exclusively band 4. So this would lend some support to the possibility that this is happening when switching bands as I don't ever switch bands and don't have the issue (3 different Pixel devices that I've used since launch and none have exhibited this behavior).
I never had this issue on my Pixel XL, but then when I switched to the Pixel it would drop every single call I made and take 2-3 minutes to get a signal again. This was using the Verizon SIM card it came with. I then got a different SIM card and while it hasn't dropped a call since, I still notice that randomly throughout the day it loses signal where I have never lost signal before. I then wait 2-3 minutes and all of a sudden, it's back to strong LTE signal.
I'm on the fence about RMA'ing it. Anyone have any thoughts on whether or not this is a software or hardware issue? I don't want to be stuck with this problem.

Any resolution to this yet? I've tried swapping the sim to no avail. Running custom kernel and pure Nexus.
I'm on Project FI and sometimes the phone would switch to T-Mob for no apparent reason, which has extremely bad signal. While USC has over 100 times better signal, the phone for no apparent reason would switch to crap. That usually results in no calls being made at all. One trusty remedy is type in a dialer code to switch to next provider.

I also have the 128GB XL (quite black) from VZW. I had absolutely no issues with it until about 2 weeks ago. That's when I started experiencing this same issue. The signal bar goes clear and i lose service for a few moments. In watching the SIM status, I can see where the status will go from "In service" to "Radio off" to "Out of service" back to "In service." I also took screenshots of it doing this. The weird thing for me is that it only happens when I'm at work (I usually have full bars for reception). VZW seems quite baffled at this issue. They have replaced my phone twice. This 3rd phone is doing the exact same thing the other 2 were. I did a chat session with Google Support, and the 1st level tech I chatted with seemed unaware of the issue. My wife has the same phone (silver), and she hasn't experienced this issue yet at all. We were thinking about bringing her phone to my office to see if hers will display the same symptoms mine does here. Nobody else in my area has any reception issues. It's not a huge inconvenience while I'm at work since I have a desk phone. However, it is rather annoying when I cannot send a text or make/receive a call because my cellular radio is resetting itself constantly.
I couldn't post my screenshots since I have < 10 posts...

No more LTE reception

Hi all,
on Saturday, out of sudden, my N5x in 90% of the time does not log into LTE network anymore. My wife's 5x does with the same SIM, so a network issue can be excluded. Going to airplane mode and back does not solve the issue. Intermittently I do have LTE, but not for long.
Setting up new after full wipe has no impact on the issue.
Has someone ever experienced this? I am ~ 2 months after warranty end, will try to get support from Google anyhow (bought in play store).
Edit: Google initiated a replacement.... Great Support!

N920I - Weak 4G. Can no longer make or recieve calls. Possibly a local 3G tower was turned off.

My Galaxy Note 5 SM-N920I purchased December of 2015 can no longer make or receieve calls. My provider is TracFone via the Bring Your Own Phone program. I use their SIM card and it has worked all this time. Until recently the phones features have stopped working. I think they have been disabling the 3G in my area, as everyone is converting to 4G now.
Note 5 is supposed to support 4G but it's definitely been having issues. Text and internet still works. however texts are sometimes delayed on occasion, not always, usually it's fine. Data speed just now was tested at 10 mbps down, 3 mbps up. Signal bars are consistently low, regardless of physical location; inside, outside, other side of town, SIM status shows signal always between -108dBm and -118dBm. This is likely why I cannot make or receive calls, but the question is, why is this happening?
Like I said, I suspect they are shutting down 3G in this area, so the best theory I've been able to come up with is this: perhaps 4G has always sucked on this phone but I never noticed because it would fall back to the good 3G connection. Now that 3G is gone in this area, all I have to use is 4G which is a shoddy connection.
Further research has found in the early days of this phone there were numerous reports of weak/no signal. See these threads:
Fed Up With Terrible Reception
Hey all, I'm kind of venting here and at the same time hoping for some sort of direction because I'm absolutely fed up with my S6. I upgraded roughly a month and a half ago from an S4. My phone usage was below normal for the first week or two as I was busy with a variety of projects. As my...

No signal/network on my note 5
Hi everyone, so I just got this note 5 N920P last two weeks but I noticed its OS was lollipop...waited for updates for 7.0 but nothing so I went ahead and downloaded Odin with latest firmware from samobile and did it my self, now here the problems start to show first of all this hands free...

One theory was that the 4G antenna they used in the Note 5 / S6 was of poor design. Causing weak signal.
Things I have tried and did not work:
-Contacted TracFone. They confirmed the device is supported and provisioned correctly. They recommended a new SIM card.
-Replaced the SIM card with a brand new one
-Factory reset the device. It's running the stock Android 7.0 Nougat which was the last up to date version available.
-Tinkered with various service menus including *#2263# and *#0011#. Messing about with the LTE band settings didn't change the signal strength ever. Regardless of the LTE band, it stays in that -108 to -118 range, too weak for calling.
What can be done to fix this? Possible ideas:
-Internal antenna replacement, but this seems either expensive to have someone do, or extremely difficult to do oneself. Would it even make a difference? Has anyone tried this?
-Software. Could the issue have been introduced during one of the software updates? Planned obsolescence perhaps? Could we revert to an earlier firmware to potentially resolve this? has anyone tried this?
-Firmware. Could we upgrade the firmware to a later, unsupported version safely? Perhaps the issue was fixd in later Android versions but has not been adressed in older devices that are no longer updated.
I'm the kind of person who likes to use my things until they absolutely die. This Note 5 has been perfectly fine until recently. There is nothing wrong with it. It's still modern, fast, and has a great camera. I would HATE to have to replace a phone for such a stupid reason. Not only is money tight, but it's such a waste when this thing is still perfect apart from this weak 4G signal.
Has anyone else had this issue? Have you resolved it? Any help appreciated. Thank you.
Try a network reset.
Clear sim toolkit data.
Clear system cache.
The access point profile may need updating or maybe the sim?

Question Horrible signal connectivity?

Hi all, I just recently bought this pixel 6 pro a few weeks ago and I've been having horrible connection issues. The main one that plagues me is when all of a sudden, for no reason, I lose mobile data connection. I have some bars of signal with the LTE or 5G icon but with an exclamation point in it. Or sometimes it just loses signal randomly like in the screenshot below. Both screenshots were taken minutes apart.
I've noticed this was an issue for most people and have posted about this here, but I haven't seen anyone complain about it recently. Is there a fix for this problem?
Unfortunately for a great manu people, myself included this phone has garbage reception. There is no known fix.
Me to
My troubles began after I updated the phone to A13 enrolling to Beta and then leaving it.
The problem was that the phone will be stuck to H+ all day although weI have good coverage of 4G and 5G in town. Sometimes the connection would just drop and I had to engage flight mode to reset it.
Yesterday I decided that I had enough and did the reset of network settings. Today I have noticed that the problem was solved. Now I have 4g and 5g as in the past. But the problem now is that the Internet just would not work from time to time although it shows full bars. Had to use aeroplane mode again today about 3 times.
It's very annoying to say the least. Had thoughts of changing the phone. Not even speaking about heating issues when on mobile. Horrible.

I also have to occasionally switch on/off airplane mode when the phone cannot connect to the internet from time to time
i agree, terrible signal problems, all time. I`ll try to reset all network settings
for me it`s a disrespect from google to treat all final user like beta tester
Same here. Super slow connection even in areas with towers close by.
Been having this issue ever since I updated to Android 13.
Having only had the phone for 2 weeks, I took it to my provider who said all they can do is return it to Google. With both my eSIM and my physical sim dropping out together, apparently its an RIL problem. They did say that if it's just an issue with one SIM card, replacing it will fix it.
I think this can be solved downgrading to android 12.1 dev you can downgrade to android 12.1 without downgrade bootloader it's safe and don't brick your device because it's a android 12 that runs over android 13 bootloader. Keep in mind that this will erase your data permanently! Do a backup before do it
This has been happening since the phone came out. This is due to the old modem they are using from Samsung. There is no fix.
My coworker has this happen with his 6 Pro, while my 6 is perfect ironically. He has verizon, I got tmobile. He has to leave the store to make a call, but I don't. This has been for the last 6 months though

Had the phone sent away to Google for repairs as the issue ended up happening when I was showing my provider. Got it back and Google said there were "no issues" with it and they couldn't replicate it with either SIM type. Either they put out a hotfix or it magically went away, but I'll see how it goes after using it again.

If you've got another phone (5G compatible), you can try to see if the problem is the phone, or the actual network coverage.
Also, something else you could do is switch to 4G and see if the problem persists.
The thing with 5G is that the coverage is really spotty. That's in general. I don't live in the US, so I don't know what the actual coverage is over there. But that's a general thing with 5G. It cannot penetrate as well as 4G, and even worse than 3G or 2G. When you increase frequency, you lose distance (coverage). So basically 5G needs a lot more repeaters to get proper coverage.
But you could try another phone in the exact same area. Oor..try to switch to 4G and see if the issue still occurs. You could also call the carrier and ask if they have any idea why is this happening.

Same with me. I keep 5G turned off for a couple reasons.
1, battery life.
2. 4G is fast enough for me.
3. Better signal.
