I've had the Pixel C for over a year and have not really used it much lately. I had at one point installed RemixOS but had issues with the window function (windows would always be stuck to edge of screen and be unmovable) and have since returned back to stock.
I'm looking to utilize the tablet again as I did pay good money for it NOT to be a sitting dust collector. I just wanted input from the community on the different ROMs available. I mainly used the tablet for productivity and occasional gaming/streaming.
I like lineage OS.
It is unofficial still but close to stock with small footprint and is rock solid in performance.

Thanks for your input I'll give Lineage a try. Do you happen to have experience with the Resurrection OS by any chance?

I do not.
I stuck with LineageOS because it is the old cyanogenmod team.
If you were to be on the stable OS which is v14 or Nougat i think you get pretty regular never fail updates.
I went with the unoffical LineageOS v15 as it is based on Oreo.
A little more cumbersome in performing updates as it isn't supported by Lineage proper just yet, but rock solid otherwise
My pixel C is by far the least modified of all my devices and is pretty vanilla excapt for being rooted.
I use Dirty Unicorns. Is the only rom that seems more responsive than stock
Any Chrome OS ROM for the Pixel C? Now that Acer et al have detachable Chrome tablets this should work for the Pixel C, too.

why on earth did they not launch this phone with Kitkat?
anyway I have a question regarding Oppo's software support, is it good? will they quickly update Find 7 to Kitkat? I have heard that Oppo's software are rather somewhat unreliable, is it true?
about Color OS, is it good? is it full of bloatwares or not? how deep is the customization?
will Find 7 have official Cyanogenmod support? how about other custom ROMs?
thanks for answering!
Oppo listen very much to their user base and they will update it to KitKat. You can flash other roms to Oppo using their stock recovery, they're partnered with CyanogenMod so Cm roms should run well on their devices.
As for other custom roms, it depended on if the Dev want to develop for it or not, if you purchase a Find 7 for them, they probably will. Hint: Take a look at the Find 5 and N1 development section.

The oppo stock recovery flashes CM. OPPO are developer friendly, they even got OMNI Mediatek sources for the R819 (not an easy feat Mediatek are NOT willing)
They did not launch with kitkat because they are still adding features (ColorOS 2.0). They do that. If you are concerned about latest android version get on a custom rom like CM from the start, because OPPO don't move up the Android version until the previous ROM is stable enough to discontinue. The ROM itself is quite nice for a manufacturer skin, not bloated at all,and has some nice features built in you really miss if you go custom, but some people just hate the colorfulness so to each their own.

CM will probably have builds out within a month of release...
My concern with running CM on this phone is, will it lose features? Like the 50MP super zoom mode?
Yes you'll most likely lose SuperZoom and Maxxaudio with any AOSP ROM. You'd need stock based for that.

what? but didn't n1 retain it's features with cyanogen?
and can't you just install specific phones apps to get it's features?
Yes, because CM built the phone with OPPO,far as I know, they're making the OnePlus One ATM. So yeah, it'll be like on Find 5 most likely.

I haven't heard any news regarding a Cyngn partnership for the Find 7.
Remember, after last year's events, when talking about CM, there are really two different entities which are semi-connected:
CM - the original CyanogenMod open source software project. The Find5 was originally maintained by community members who were solely involved on this side of things. All of that team left for Omni as a result of the Focal relicensing fiasco (This is why the Find5 never saw official CM10.2)
Cyanogen Inc - Referred to from here on in this post as "Cyngn" - The corporate entity created by some of the Cyanogenmod leads
Cyngn was partnered with Oppo for the N1 so that Cyngn could gain experience with taking a device through GMS (Google Apps) certification. There has been little to no CM community involvement with the N1 - it's a purely Cyngn affair. All community efforts on the device are focused on other projects (Oppo sent preproduction N1s to people involved with CodefireXperiment, Omni, Paranoid Android, and a few others)
Cyngn is currently partnered with OnePlus to focus on their launch device. They aren't even putting much effort into the N1 now if you read any of the user reviews. (Both official 10.2 updates are full of bugs, and CM11 has had broken location services for two months now with not a single word from the development team.)
So the support of the Find7 by CyanogenMod is unknown and indeterminate. It will likely involve community effort if it happens, but all "community" contributors with current Oppo devices are working on other projects. Omni support is HIGHLY likely, I would not be surprised if, like the Find5 and N1, it proves to be one of Omni's best supported devices. CodefireXperiment and PA support are also highly likely (Actually I'd say pretty much guaranteed in the case of CFX, Oppo and Anders get along as well as the Omni team gets along with Oppo). (While PA usually focuses on Nexus devices, there usually have been exceptions for Oppos due to Oppo providing excellent support to Aaron from PA.)
Its the best phone out without a doubt right now .. Might even beat all new HTC one .. It's a no compromise phone .. Except speakers idk if they are good or bad .. Also you can choose your own software oppo skin or cm(later) and paranoidandroid. I'm very impressed .
returning to the color os talk, do you think it will be a long time before oppo move to kitkat based color os?
and as I asked before, is it true regarding color os instability and incompatibility with common android apps?
and I'm glad if Paranoid Android will indeed come to Find 7!

About the apps yeah, there was a thing about Lightflow not working, but its usually a one app thing, especially if it works by identifying the phone, mostly coz OPPO is so unique. As a plus ANY Chinese app works without a hitch when they give other manufacturers incompatibility issues
Omni is confirmed,Maxwen is getting a Find 7.
Unless i'm wrong ColorOS 2.0 should be kitkat.

Well I would consider the battery a moderate compromise. 3k mah is not really sufficient for a 5.5" 2k screen. I was really hoping for 3500mah or more.
I'm wondering how the screen compares to the Note 3 OLED screen. The Note 3 has an extra .02", extra 200mah, but Samsungs OLED's aren't as efficient as SLCD's.
The batt life is the defining factor here for me and I would assume a great many others. If HTC can deliver on this, they'll take a good few percent of the upgrade market. Damn Sony for not bringing their Z2 to the US. It would dominate the tech-savvy market completely.
last time I heard the screen use new low power tech so let's wait for a review first before calling the battery is a flop.

likely not but during the unveiling they used a find 7 to output audio using huge cable, maybe it was just a huge stereo cable though.
I heard the lower-end version Oppo Find 7a is better than Oppo Find 7 in many sectors, like screen, performance, etc. I really hope that Oppo equips this phone with that brilliant touch-less voice command just like on Moto X. It's gonna be really awesome for this phone. In fact, i think all of the new phones in 2014 should also have this feature. I mean, the real touch-less voice control when the phone is still locked. Unlike Google Nexus 5's "Ok Google" voice control that can only be used when the phone has been unlocked.

Hey all,
I've lurked around the forums for an answer but can't seem to find any posts about this or anything. I'm wondering what folks consider as the best tablet that is currently available (January 2017) for Remix OS?
In terms of "best tablet" I mean something for gaming, general use, productivity, pretty high specs, etc. And of course, the tablet should be able to run Remix OS without any (major/minor) hiccups.
I see the Google Pixel C is capable of running Remix OS but can't really find any posts or comments from folks about other solid tablets that run Remix. And, please do not suggest any Microsoft Surface product.
What are any recommendations from the community?
Thanks!
No one has suggestions for what might be a bada$$ tablet for Remix OS?
Well, as you mentioned it runs flawless on my pixel c. Anyway, I switched back to Stock because of the lack of updates under Remix OS. Despite of this it's the best productivity OS for Android around.

I am using remix os on huawei matebook, it is a windows 12 inch core m tablet, but I managed to install remix os on it, the only flaw is power button does not work, so I have to set the remix os to keep screen awake all the time, other than that, perfect.
it gives me the smoothest android experience, it runs much faster than pixel c, and of course it can switch back to Windows 10
lol the best tablet should be surface pro 3, everything works.

Surface pro at 800 grams is too heavy for prolonged tablet use.
I much prefer Huawei's matebook (better specs too) and I would had held onto it if the power button was not broken (on Remix OS) and since I can't stand Windows on tablets I had to return it.
I think remix OS is best used on lightweight 2in1s , more heavyweight ones are better used in laptop mode in which case windows is probably better
My OS hierarchy goes like this :
Desktop/laptop: Windows if you're gaming / need proprietary software. Linux if not (distro doesn't matter)
Tablet: Remix OS
Phones: Android, the closest to vanilla the better.
IMO windows is bad for anything without a keyboard
Chrome OS is bad for everyone
Apple operating systems while polished are too restrictive. They're a throwback to early computing which is obsolete. Eventually they will be phased out.
Edit: oops sorry , for resurrecting an ancient thread. Just saw the date.
I'm using RemixOS on my MiPad 2. It is not a perfect option since Mipad is not officially supported. But it's the best one for its price and quality.
I'm not into gaming and I strongly doubt Mipad has good gaming experience. But for everyday use and study it's quite OK.
So i was thinking of getting a Z2 Force + MotoMods. There is killer deal i've got in sight and i really want to have the 10x Zoom of the Hasselblad (even though the Picture Quality isn't that great, the Zoom alone for that price it's advertised is damn good) and i'd like to use the Projector sometimes in Bed.
However, i've got a few other devices that i put HavocOS on and absolutely fell in love. Apparently the HavocOS 2.0 (Android PIE) GSI Treble rom works like a charm when flashing LOS before and using that Treble capability. However, i would love to know if the Moto Mods, especially the Hasselblad works with GSI Roms. Are there any people out there who use that combination or have it and can try it? Camera in itself is often already a nightmare to get working in Custom Roms, but with the Hasselblad...i'm not very hopeful. Still...

Only if the ROM developer builds with mod functionality. This is 99.9% of the time no, since it is a small % of phones that are treble that use it. (I think only the Z and Z2 are treble enabled that have motomods. That is a small base of users for a developer of a GSI to bake into it.)
Hello folks,
My I9195 has performed beautifully for the last couple of years, running CM and LOS. The phone is currently running the last official 14.1 build and works superbly well - honestly, I have no complaints! Thank you so much for your incredible work @arco68!
However, I'm keen to get back to trying the latest roms, and to also experiment with microG - perhaps this combination will allow even better battery life than I'm currently experiencing with LOS 14.1 + opengapps?
While my S4 Mini's hardware is still working well, it's a little battered and bruised from being dropped so many times. The screen is more-or-less perfect (one minor scratch), however the back case and silver edge surround is pretty badly chipped, revealing the gray plastic underneath. Rather than attempt to source spare parts and refurbish the device myself, I'm planning to simply purchase a second S4 Mini from AliExpress, and use this as a test device - maybe a daily driver once it improves.
I have a couple of questions:
- Is it still necessary to flash opengapps (nano being my preference) after flashing the OS (perhaps in order to get through installation without crashing?) - even if I intend to use gapps?
- Has anyone purchased an S4 Mini from AliExpress recently? If so, how much did you pay, and which vendor did you use?
- Am I crazy to consider buying another ~5 year old phone? Are there seriously no other compact devices with active rom development?
Thanks in advance!
James

Ciao James,
do you want to buy a S4 mini on aliexpress? How? I can see only spare parts, I think the production finished 4 years ago.
I'm also looking for a small android phone, not low quality, I think the only possibility is offered by sony and xperia compact serie.
Thank you for your reply.
Yes, AliExpress vendors sell plenty of spare parts, but there are also vendors selling complete phones:
https://www.aliexpress.com/premium/...Text=samsung+s4+mini&CatId=5090301&isrefine=y
I expect these are refurbished devices, rather than being brand new, however the S4 Mini I purchased from AliExpress a few years ago arrived in perfect condition - it looked like it had never been touched. If I can receive the same level of quality again, I will be very happy!
As you note, it seems only Sony is continuing to produce compact phones with good specifications. Before purchasing the S4 Mini, I strongly considered a Z3 Compact. The Sony has superior specs, but is a little bulkier than the Samsung. The recently discontinued iPhone SE is/was the perfect size and spec for me, however unfortunately it runs iOS instead of Android. :/
Cheers,
James

I've just swithed nougat to oreo. MicroG. I see no visible improvement. Only reason was continue of security updates.
There is no need to Flash GApps. Yesterday i tried flashing a S5 with GApps. Oh my GOD! Google did a complete take-over. I did a clean wipe in the middle of that update orgy. If you are used to GApps, the microG phone will feel naked for you. I recommend first steps with a second hand phone and Lineage4microG nougat.
Alternative to S4 mini, I only see Sony Z1 compact at the moment. MSe1969 does a good job in keeping security level of lolypop rom high.
Thanks for the reply!
Yeah, I guess I could try Lineage for microG first, as it would be the same Nougat rom I’m currently using, and therefore a good way to compare vs gapps. Could I just directly flash it over the top of my current LOS14.1 install...would it automatically remove/disable the opengapps?
Interesting that you reverted back to Nougat from Oreo. I read that Pie offers some performance improvements over previous versions, but perhaps that is not the case?
The other query I had was how app updates work with microG. Do you still receive notifications and prompts to update apps as they are released?
Cheers,
James

Just scrollred up. You would try microG for battery saving? I don't think that's worth the trouble. Only real benefit of leaving GApps is privacy.
A dirty flash is no good idea. Even if it would work: you keep your spyware setup.
There are many possible setups without GApps. Alternative or patched app sores have update mechanisms.
Performance plus of new androids? I update only to get security patches.

Interesting comment. It was my understanding that the low-memory, minimalist footprint of microG was well-suited to older devices such as the S4 Mini. Noticeably improved battery life would be the goal.

The only time I have turned to Lineage to to overcome the shortcomings of an adulterated Android.
Samsung, OnePlus, are the only 2 that come to mind.
Rooted Pure Android from Google is pretty much perfrect for me and I cant think of enough improvements that Linage could offer to make it my daily driver.

Yet, without it, there would be far less ROMs on XDA
LineageOS seems pretty great to me when I use it on devices that don't come with relatively stock Android. Don't see the need for it on Pixels since it already offers pretty much stock Android, unless you want to run without Google apps or something or you want support after Google stops supporting it(end of 2021). Don't even run twrp now. Just patch the boot.img monthly.

Right, Lineage is the "other" Android experience, most of the ROMs on XDA are Lineage based and there's nothing wrong with that, lol
