Anyway to make this happen? I tried just installing the apk but it didn't work. I would even put a rom on this phone if there was a way to get it to work. I have a gear S3 and I miss having my messages saved on my watch when I had my s8. Hopefully someone knows an answer to this. Thanks.
Not possible. You'd need various framework elements from TouchWiz/Samsung Experience which are not open-source.

Think Textra would work
Related
Hi all,
I just had two questions relating to the Galaxy Nexus which I bought a couple of days ago
1. When I receive a text or email, on my old Galaxys S2 it used to have a number next to the icon. For example if two people had text me, the number two would show up next to the text message icon informing me. This doesn't appear to be happening on my Galaxy Nexus. Is that normal?
2. One of my favourite widgets on the Galaxy S2 was the Mini Paper widget. I've got the .APK for it, but it doesn't seem to install on the Galaxy Nexus. Does anyone know how this widget can be installed?
Hope someone can help me out
1. That is part of touchwiz, the Samsung equivalent of Sense on HTC devices. The Galaxy Nexus is a pure Google experience device, but you can find widgets on the Android Market that will give you badges for SMS/Email.
2. That APK might need the touchwiz framework to work, no idea though.

Thanks for the reply ZeroBarrier.
Regarding the first question, I just wanted to make sure that this was universal to all Galaxy Nexus' and not just mine LOL. Strange how this feature doesn't exist though as I thought it was very useful on my S2.
Regarding the second question, if anyone does know how to get the Mini Paper widget working on the Nexus Galaxy, please let me know
Regarding the Mini Paper widget, have you tried ColorNotes from the market? Not EXACTLY the same but gets the job done

I've tried ColorNotes but didn't really like it to be honest mate. The S2's Mini Paper
I feel is the best quick note taking widget out there. Everytime I try installing it, the process just fails
Surely there must be a way to make it work? It's only a small widget LOL

So it's not possible at all then to get this widget ported over to the Nexus?
I heard somewhere that Touchwiz widgets require the Touchwiz framework.
*cough*
The same goes for Sense widgets, Blur widgets, and any other manufacturer-UI widgets.
One thing in particular is the messaging app. I've used GoSMS for quite a while, but realized that the Direct Call function and Smart Notifications don't work with it. Tried Handcent as well.
Is this something that can be addressed from a developer standpoint or are we forced to pick and choose?

if its a touchwiz feature it means more than likely it wont work with anything but stock. This is because it does not have the proper framework to use those features.
so in my brief time with the galaxy s5, I saw how Samsung decided to remove lock screen widgets which irked me. I see they're continuing their antics with the tab s series.
this makes things like Google music and Netflix useless when using chromecast etc because it removes the easy way to just pause and skip via the lockscreen.
I installed xposed and installed a Galaxy S5 mod that was supposed to enable lock screen widgets again, which I'm sure it did for the s5 users but it doesn't work on the tab.
does anyone have any idea or solution as to the best way to do this? there has to be a way.

Hate this!
Same here, have you found a work around? I mean just listening to music makes it harder to just pause and restart. Always need to make pattern, very annoying!

Yeah....this sucks.
Lockscreen Widgets for rooted Users
Guys, do we have a solution in the meantime or still have to install an alternate launcher ? I am on SkyHigh ROM 4.4.2. and want to stay there for the next months...
I thought @THEDEVIOUS1 (he did it on his ROM) and maybe @Goldie (he did it on the s5 I think) might have a solution for us ?
nobody ? so thats bad news
I just bought a Nexus 7 (2013) after using a Samsung Tab 2 7.0 for the last couple years. I also have a Galaxy S 4. I've now tried 4 other email apps but find that the stock Samsung email app works perfectly for everything I want to do. Does anyone know where I can find Samsung email version 4.4.2.0200 as a standalone app so I can install it on the Nexus? If anyone knows where I can find the APK it sure would be appreciated.
Most Samsung apps are TouchWiz dependant. Your better off looking on the playstore for a replacement. K9 mail, aqua mail...etc

Thanks for your quick response. I was afraid that was going to be the answer. I tried K-9 and I find it to be funky with the way it treats deleted mail on the server and in a few other areas. Haven't looked at Aqua but did try some other email apps. Never realized how useful some of the Samsung specific apps are. In the short time I've had the Nexus I love the speed, cellular capability and various other things (including the price) but miss a number of features from Samsung.

Try tot extract the APK (from your s4 or tab) with 'Lucky Patcher' and sideload it on your N7.

Have you tried CloudMagic? It's a damn nice email app. I use it to combine all my inboxes from different providers (Yahoo, hotmail and gmail). I used to be on Samsung and this one beats it hands down.
Why not just let Gmail manage the other email accounts

I am coming from Samsung S9 (yes, I know, I know bloatware glore). I have tried all big launchers (Lawn Chair. pixel. Nova). On Pixel 3XL.
I can't make the notification numbers to stay? Wth Google. This is v basic functionality I will think EVERYONE will expect in 2020?
Please enlighten me, how to make this work?
Also, Google removed face unlock? I am not big on that but why remove it, once you added the functionality?
Is there a way to make Samsung apps work on Pixel? I will love to get Email and Calendar app (and possibly Reminder)
ps: I don't want to root. It breaks pay system?
No.

@PrinceMS
By "notification numbers" do you mean the badges that show the unread count? If so, Nova Prime should give you that functionality.
I believe face unlock was removed due to security concerns. Who knows, maybe it will make a return after it's been improved.
Using a Samsung app I believe requires some tweaking and root. There's a thread where the question was asked.
There are many people using Gpay with rooted devices. Look here and here.
