I purchased a Verizon Note 4 N910V.05 off eBay.
When I got it, it had a custom ROM (didn't mention Verizon anywhere except for the logo on the back) and it worked fine with whatever SIM card I threw at it. At that time it was running Android 4.X
With time my phone started to get laggy and buggy, so I decided to reset to factory, and while I was at it, I decided to update to the most current official android version available to the phone: Android 6.0.1
Now, the phone won't use SIM cards I put it in it. It demands a Verizon one.
I read somewhere that I could just put one in, remove it, and then the phone should work fine with different carrier's SIM card. I tried but that didn't resolve my issue.
I also tried downgrading to previous android versions, hoping to root or do something -but no joy.
The phone shows the 4G notification and it receives (but not send) text messages -it doesn't send or receive phone calls -or data. I know the hardware is capable, because up until I updated to Android 6.0.1, it was working.
Does anyone know of a tried and true solution to getting this phone working again? Should I be trying to install a different ROM that's not for Verizon? Should I be trying to do something else? I'd really like to get my phone working again.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Maybe bad connection on your sim card?
Try removing the SIM card and put it back in, and then boot the phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
done that, doesn't help
Im getting hte same issue. The 4.0.2 update came through, rebooted the phone. SIM not found, press to reboot....
Rebooted, SIM still not working. remove SIM and replace. Still not working. replaced with another SIM. Still not working.
Was working fine prior to the 4.0.2 update. This is on a 1 month old phone that has never been rooted. It is still as stock as it comes out of the box... And i want to test it more before i start boxing it up to send it back...
Have you tried leaving the battery out for a bit, then trying powering it up again?
Here is where it gets weird. I tried 2 other sim cards as well as my own. none of them worked. put my sim card back in and tried again, still not working. turned it off over night. went to Vodafone and asked if i could try a new SIM in the phone. still not working. put my TPG/Optus sim in and it started working. got a new SIM from Voda, transfered all the account info to the new card, waited an hour and tried it again and now it works :/
Dont know what caused it to stop working and dont know what caused it to start working again :/ im going to throw the word "Vodafone" in there as the cause because people will just nod their head and say... "yep, that was probably it..."
I have the same issue with AT&T....the phone does recognize the SIM, APN and all...but no signal. Just once in a while it gets registered on teh network, but for one minute or so...I don't know what to do
Same issue here, after a reboot my phone does not recognize my sim at all. no signal at all. tried a different sim, nothing, bought a new sim but nothing again, returned to stock, everything, but still nothing....no remedy yet....
I need help knowing how to proceed with my daughter's tablet. I got her a used Note 8 from e-bay. The seller said they could not keep the sim card in. That was not a problem because we don't plan on using it with AT&T, and the price was right.
So the tablet comes and my daughter uses it for the afternoon with no problems. When I got home I was playing with it and put in an inactive sim card to see if it would stay in. It did, so I took it out and gave it back to my daughter. Now evey couple hours it gives me a message saying sim card added, restart your device to access the mobile network. If I pull down the settings menu it says no sim card. I cannot do anything though, so I am forced to restart. I cannot figure out what to do.
First I am not sure if I caused the problem by putting in the sim card for a minute or it was already there.
So I have tried a few things. The last thing I did was a data wipe, followed by clear cache, then I did a force stop on any at&t app. We still get the message.
I tried to update android as it is running 4.1.2 But is says it is up to date.
While trying to figure out what to do I discovered it is apparently rooted. I noticed it had SuperSU v1.80 installed. To check root I installed root checker from google play store. It says root access is verified. So I assume that is why I cannot update android.
Anyone else have this problem? I searched and couldn't find any solutions.
Any ideas on solving it?
Currently I am debating undoing root and seeing if I can update over the air. And hopefully fix the problem. Or updating with a custom rom to try to fix it. But I am not sure how to do that. It has been a really long time since I rooted anything.
I appreciate any help. Thank you, Sherry
When the message comes up I cannot do anything but access the settings drag down menu. It still says no sim card, but the message on the home page says there is and to restart. Must restart device. So after I restarted it I clicked on the notification that says no sim card for app info. It says it is system UI. At first I was hesitant to disable it, but finally gave it a try. It worked. No more sim card messages forcing me to restart. And so far everything works properly except for the background image. It is just a black screen. Everything else seems to function properly. Good enough for now I guess.
Okay so i have the T-Mobile Galaxy s3. It has been rooted for a while with zero problems. I got tired of the older android on it and decided to install a rom. I installed Cyanogenmod 13.0-20151208-unofficial-d2tmo running android 6.0.1. When i first got it all booted and loaded with gapps, i noticed that it recognized my sim and that i had a signal but i couldn't use any LTE or just all around data. basically i couldn't go online (in case i just didn't explain that well enough. Phone service is a mystery to me). I did some searching online and found a lot of people saying that i needed to update my baseband. i found a baseband for my model (T999) and tried to flash it in TWRM. Once i rebooted, it said "No SIM card - No service." in the upper left-hand side. i have tried flashing multiple different basebands the same way with no luck. i tried backing up my EFS folder and the restoring it because someone said to do that and that just... just no... it didn't do anything. even Odin 3 said it was a "FAIL!". So here i am with this android equivalent to an Ipod and i hate this. Everything else in this ROM works perfectly aside from this but this is a super big problem. PLEASE HELP!!!! A phone isn't a phone if you cant even send a text.
Did you update the phone's bootloader and modem to the latest version before flashing CM?
Got this phone from a friend and immediately flashed the last CM 14 Rom before they shut down. Flashed the experimental Lineage Rom then started the Nightlies. It's on the most recent Nightly now. The issue I'm having involves the SIM card, and now bluetooth (though that only happened once). I can't get it to connect to the network. It was an AT&T phone originally, and yesterday I finally got it unlocked to use on T-Mobile. The card is registering, I see the triangle in the status bar, but none of the solutions I've found can make it connect (the card works in another phone). When trying to connect to the network it eventually just times out. I can't even add APN settings as they won't save. This morning it forgot previous bluetooth connections as soon as I clicked on them. I'm thinking I need to flash an older radio.img but I can't find anything that isn't almost 3 years old. In addition, I can't keep the SIM unlocked. It asks for the SIM unlock PIN every time the phone boots, and the Security setting option is grayed out so I can't even turn it off. Any ideas? Is this all related to being S-on? Based on what I've read, I was under the impression that didn't matter anymore.
Hi everyone! I am new here in XDA Developers.
I have been snooping around since 1 year ago or so, and I found this site when I hard bricked my phone.
Well, let's start the story:
I bought an used Moto Z Play from a friend, excellent phone, 10/10 functions and aesthetics.
Once i had the phone in my hands I wanted to ROOT it, because I wanted to hack games and stuff. The phone was in Android 8.0 (Oreo), but since there was no root for my phone and OS, y proceeded to search the latest OS that could be rooted. I found out that it was the android 7.1, I think. Well, since I wanted a "clean" installation in my phone I downloaded the original ROM, and wanted to update it like many people do, via OTA. I installed 6.0 (since it is it's original ROM, from factory), all good. The update notification showed up, I accepted; it updated to 6.1 or sth, then the 7.0 update, updated, AND finally came the 7.1. Once I updated, it bricked. HARD BRICKED. I panicked, since I wanted to give away this phone to my dad. I found out that I needed a blankflash. I searched through a lot of forums, some even in russian, and chinese. I found out and accepted that the blankflash for the android 8.0 never came out. I gave up.
Since then, I learned that I MUST NEVER UPDATE VIA OTA. I learned it the hard way. I'm sorry for my stupidness.
Then I bought another motherboard from another Moto Z Play. I installed it and discovered that the ROM wasn't STOCK. That's because when I turned on the phone it started in bootloader everytime. The new motherboard came with Android 8.0 (Oreo) but I'm sure that it is a custom rom.
Well, the phone is now working perfect, but NOW, I have a problem.
I want to use 2 SIM cards in it. The first SIM card works fine, calls, mobile data, Wi-Fi... everything is good.
BUT the second one, from a different service provider, does not work. I inquired and found out that it was a problem because my phone wasn't, apparently, unlocked for other providers. I tested the SIM card with other phone, it worked. In the Moto Z Play, I saw that the APN info was correct, it detected all the info, but could not make calls, no mobile data. Wi-Fi was good though. The SIM card is fine, but the phone is locked.
I need the IMEI, MY IMEI, lol, but it is a problem. I tried calling to *#06#, the message shows
┐
IMEI
0
└
and in the settings -> system -> about phone -> status -> IMEI info, it shows nothing, BLANK!!!
that's why I think it is a custom room, and I have a problem.
The phone works fine with the first SIM card though, and I really like it. But I wabt to use the other one too.
My question is, should I install another ROM in the phone? I'm very afraid that it could HARD BRICK AGAIN.
What do you guys recommend? Should I try it or leave like this?
Now I don't really care if I can ROOT the device or not, I just want it to be functional and solve the "unlock line providers" problem. It could be fine with the 8.0 oreo or 9.0 pie, I don't mind, although I saw in other forums that I should not downgrade again, even if my phone has a custom rom and the new one is custom as well, so, i think the 9.0 pie could be good, but the oreo 8.0 is fine as well.
A guy in another forum could recover his IMEI with a somehow, interesting, process.
I will try to translate it since the original is in spanish:
┐
I experimented with several ROMs, and I tested one with android 9, the name is "The XPerience Project", but the Wi-Fi didn't work, so I decided to go back to the Stock one. I tried a multime times and days to restore my IMEI, but I failed at all. I decided to try another custom rom with android 9. I noticed that this one had the IMEI and it worked perfectly. An idead popped out of my head: a backup. In test mode, I entered in recovery mode and make a security backup of the MODEM and EFS folders in a MicroSD. Once the process finished, I instaled the stock rom agin in my device. Once it started, it had the same problem: the IMEI was 0 and had no signal. I installed the recovery TWRP again and made a restoration of the backup thet I saved in the microSD. The MODEM folder could not be restored (it showed an error), but the EFS was restored. I started the device once more and it automatically foun the signal and the IMEI number was re-established. My Moto Z Play is DualSim, version XT1635-02. I hope that I could help with my solution. Cheers!

My Moto version is the same: XT1635-02
Has anyone recovered their IMEI?
If someone could tell me what should I do, I would be very thankful.
Cheers! :highfive::highfive::highfive:
