Quick charge 4 stops at 25 percent - Razer Phone Questions & Answers

I don't know if it's just me but it seems like Quick Charge 4.0 stops working at the 25% mark on my phone and after that it just goes to standard charging of about 1880 milliamps per hour and when Quick Charge is working its at about 3800 milliamps per hour if this is happening to anyone else and they know a solution I would appreciate it if you could share it with me, thank you.

I've got this covered on my post.

3200 mah battery performance

I dunno if this is the right place to post, but, could anyone tell me how long does the 3200 mah charge last on a full use? is it only a day? or 2? cause mine only lasts for one whole day, this is only texting, so please help me, so i know if it is the battery problem or mine, and how long does it take to charge it? please help me with the details so I could determine if my battery is at fault, it is still brand new so maybe i have to calibrate it? go through the charge discharge cycles? I have seen posts that say it could last up to 6 days, but mine went from 100% 17% in just one day and only texting 30 mins mp3, I charged it but it only charged for 3 hours, then it was full, the charging indicator turned green, should i still keep it charging for the charge discharge cycle? if so, how long do I have to keep it charging after the indicator goes to green.
Please help me cause I am lost and am having problems with my battery, the original one, lasts almost the same length with the same activity. thank you
Hope this helps:

If not consider to buy a new one, they are cheap!
And I would strongly recommend to buy the original sized one as Uni is big enough to increase it´s weight and measures
Better to carry a spare one!!
my 3200 battery will last about 6hrs of constant use (that is backlight always on and constantly using the Uni for doing something - eg, typing). This is with wifi and BT off. This is about average. Of course, most people don't use their PDA this way under normal conditions!
thanks for the feedback, but my uni does not last that long, it almost does not last a full length movie, so I am worried about my device, is it the battery's problem or the device's? I think that it should last up to 2 movies, right? is it also because of the rom? because, what happens is, eveytime that I watch movies, the battery indicator goes down and then when the uni rests after that it goes back up by a certain percentage, say for example...
watch movie battery goes down to 55% after that the uni rests, as in standby only no activity and only sits on the table, it goes back to 60% any takes on this? it is weird, right? I hope someone could shed some light into this. thanks again

On The 1620mAh Battery It the same as yours and it charge for about 2 hours while On first use of the 3200mAh Battery, It Last For 6 days!

ROMs or hacks that allow trickle charging past 90%?

So it's already been established that after the EVO charges fully to 100% it then stops receiving a charge and runs off the battery before charge cycling again. All the while displaying 100%.
Has any effort been put into changing the way this operates? Seems like it'd be nice to leave the phone on a charger and when you take it off, it would actually be at 100% and not at some arbitrary percentage between 90% and 100%.
It's better for the battery life. It's really good option if you ask me.

You mean make it so that the battery's status bar shows a realistic value once it stops taking a charge, even though it's still plugged in, right? Not actually changing the way it takes a charge. I'd be interested in seeing that happen.
Is that why when you unplug it, the first 5% or so disappear within minutes?

Yup. This is why when you charge overnight the battery plummets right after.

Valid point. Lol
There are some people who don't want to wake up in the middle of the night to unplug their phone. Like me.
annoying, but just unplug your phone when you do wake and plug it back in after about 10 seconds. let it finish fully charging while you get ready.
it's better for the battery though, case closed. Lenovo has been doing somehting similar w/ their laptops for years. It never charges the battery past like 97%, and when it does reach the top it stops charging until it falls below like 92 then recharges. HTC needs to loook out for the battery they already have enough flak from all of us for the last few years w/ every touch device they have had. We want more life, and they are giving it to us, just wish they could figure something out like lenovo, let it go down to mayeb 94 then charge up again perhaps.
it really isn't true, mine dumps 10% or so off the charger regardless of if it has been on the charger all night or 2 seconds after it turns green.
So I've done the:
1 charge to green
2 unplug
3 turn off
4 charge while turned off.....to green again.
And here are my honest results.
Boom........phone has 20% left after 16.5 hrs of moderate use (calling time total 1 hrs talk total, surf /post 1 hour total, load up 5 apps from the market, listen to audio clips on the speaker phone for almost an hour straight, podcast this morning for 30 min...and other randomness)
And still have 20% left. Going since 6:30 a to 10:30 p...........approximately 16 hrs equals 80% so about 3.2 hrs left to use before dead.
THIS EQUALS APPROX 19.2 HOURS OF MODERATE USE BEFORE RECHARGE NEEDED.
eat it Apple 4G . You can't even reliablly make calls let alone last that long without charging. My 3g never lasted that long. You still need a wall Apple we are truly mobile. If I was on the road I could (don't need to just yet) swap out for another battery.
I'm loving xda for all their brains helping me get the most out of this phone. Thanks to all.

The point here is that we shouldn't have to do the "charger circle jerk" to have 100% battery. I should be able to unplug it and have a full battery. Not 90%. I might need that 10% later on today, its accomplishing nothing sitting on my nightstand.
If the battery is toast after a year instead of a year and half, i don't care. I want a fully battery, not an almost full battery.

HTC advised a similar solution to the battery issue. I did this a few times and my battery lasted more than 15 hours with moderate use. Here's the post:

My phone used to do this, even after i followed all the little tips and tricks of playing hide and go seek with the charging cable and my phone.
Know how i solved it?
Bought one of those $10 Ebay 2 1500mAh TP2 Battery And Wall Charger bundles, now i dont use the OEM charger at all, the cable turned into a permanent USB cable on my comp and never sees the actual HTC charging unit it plugs into for AC power. I have 3 batteries and i rotate them in that little wall charger which actually charges them to 100%. Its also proven because if you take one of the batteries, put them in the phone and charge them until the green light comes on, supposedly to "100%" and then take the actual battery out and put it in the ebay wall charger, it will still charge for another 15-25 minutes. Charging it in the phone, as soon as i unplug, it almost instantly always drops to 90%... charging with the ebay wall charger, it will stay at 100% for a while before it falls off.
Below is the link to my thread which contains linkage, pics and info about the ebay bundle, others also claim the same issues and fixes in my thread. I mean for $10 bucks, does it really matter if it works for you or not? Its worth the shot and for me, it was a great investment.
Best of luck.

I did this last night and I'm at 14 hrs and 57% left. If I have to charge like this to get great battery life that's fine. My iPhone 3gs would last half a day. So this is blowing it out of the water. And I can hold it with my left hand to talk.

Good stuff man, I finally just switched batteries after 21 hours.

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Sony Xperia XZ Premium can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Before saying such things, do you even have any idea why this happens? Don't post something like this like is a con when you don't know why this happens. Also you can disable it easily if you don't like it.

Yes i know "Battery Care" function. I Turned off.
I tried a lot cable and charger but i give always 3 hours 30 minutes.
Because this phone has got QNOVO Adapdive Charge technology for battery life.
But, that's why:
%1 percent to %51 charged with 2380mA
%51 percent to %60 charged with 1990mA
%60 percent to %70 charged with 1510mA
%70 percent to %75 charged with 1220mA
%75 percent to %80 charged with 1020mA

%83 percent to %85 charged with 720mA

%87 percent to %100 charged with 530mA

If you charge it to 100% (and discharge it to 0%) every day then you will not extend your battery life for sure... If the charging time is the most important to you, get OP5 or S8 and stop moaning. And 3 hours and 30 minutes? LOL...

Battery Care open 3.30
Closed 2.40
To be honest I'd rather wait longer for the phone to charge than damaged the battery over time. I rarely go below 50% and charge above 80%. This way the wear to the battery is minimal

I had the same results when i made a full charge with the uch 12 charger. Most people say that the 40% to 80% rule is the best for the longlivety of the battery, but i perform the 30% to 90% rule as well because it lasts me almost 2 days with a normal use.
This phone lasts me forever, so I don't care that it doesn't charge 80% in 15 minutes. I just wish it had the time to full charge listed like my old SGS6 or that it would at least have a notification somewhere that you were in fact rapidly charging (again, like Sammy phones).
Less than 3 hours to charge from 5% to 100% as you can see in the attached image
I use a aukey power charger with quick charge 3.0 and an Anker USB 3 cable

Hahahaha... I bought a 3A "fast charging kit" yesterday, because I was by friends and forgot my charger. Manufacturer is "hama". It looks really nice and like it's good quality. But... Hell... 2% in 19 minutes? WTF?! Hahaha... I think this is ultra fast charging gone wrong.

Battery care is disabled since I bought my XZP ? I think it's a compatibility problem with my hama charger. The Sony charger does it's job really fast ?

My XZ premium went from 4% to 100% in 1hr30 using the standard UCH12W and UCB20 cable.
Xperia XZ Premium charging query?
Hi burakkcbyk
Are the figures you stated below specifically for the Xperia XZ Premium? I ask as I had an online chat with Sony today and they were next to useless. The advisor told me the phone actually draws 2.8a @ 5w, but this doesn't make sense when the mains charger supplied can only provide 2.7a @ 5w. Furthermore, the official Sony in-car charger can only push 2.4a @ 5w. So, with your figures below it seems to me as if the phone actually only draws 2.4a maximum anyway?
Kind regards
Dave

Is your phone quick charging ?

I used a few Qualcomm Quick Charging phones before, quick charge 2.0/3.0 and they were all pretty quick to charge, like 30 mins 60%. Just before the Razer I had the Oneplus 3T which used the Dash charge technology and that was like superquick.
The razer supposedly has the latest QuickCharge 4+ technology.. but I am yet to see the phone charge "QUICK".
When connected with the original razer wall charger, It is maxing at about 1920Ma using 4.01 V. (checked using ampere app)
I also tried a different usb c cable, on a different quickcharge 3.0 wall charger and it is giving me exatly the same output at 1920Ma max.
This is not right, is anyone else experiencing similar charge speeds ?
Don't know the electrical figures but performance wise mine charges to 60% in the first 40-45mins.
But then sadly it takes a while to finish the full charge. Like another hour.
On the lockscreen it states 'rapidly charging' so it seems to be using the technology. Remember this has a 4000mah battery, what phone were you using before?
That being said I'm getting fantastic battery life so in my case this doesn't bother me.
Good batt life here too. About an hour and 50 minutes from 4% to 100%.
Not sure how right that is. I think it was prolly 30 to 40 minutes to 50% or so.
Funny thing was, I charged while the phone was off, the white icon on the black background showed 100% (no numbers but it was full) but when I started the phone the battery status was 95%.
Ok, I got the other phone replaced because it had couple issues. I put this new phone on charge last night when it was on 7%. On the ampere app it maxed out to like 3000 something Ma and there was a buzzing/whining noise coming from the charger/wall adapter. I left it on charge till like 40% or something and I was not comfortable with the sound from the charger so i removed it.
Put the phone on charge today, it was on 35%. The sound from the charger is still there but not as loud as yesterday. Checked on the ampere app, its pushing on average 1900Ma this time.
35% at 11:27
50% at 11:45
61% at 11:57
75% at 12:13
91% at 12:34
96% at 12:48
1. I still feel the phone is not charging fast enough although it is saying rapid charging. Like mentioned before, connecting the phone to a lower standard quick charge 3.0/2.0 power port is charging at the same numbers..
2. Having looking at these links below, the numbers dont add up to what they are advertising quickcharge 4+ with.
https://www.qualcomm.com/products/features/quick-charge
and https://www.qualcomm.com/news/onq/2...alcomm-quick-charge-4-your-next-mobile-device
3. I've never had any charger/ wall adapter that made such noise. Is this a defective unit, or is such noise on these expected if it is like charging at a faster rate? the previous one was queit.. but then again the previous one did not push over 1900Ma, this one got to over 3000Ma.
Don't know what to tell ya, but I've heard zero noise from the chargers, I've got 2 units. Purposely kept my original instead of using the rma'd charger just in case. I'm not sure what their total sales are vs defective units, would be nice to get some communications from razer though.
I'm glad they got an update out after 5 days, shows they're working on it, but the update broke the sound and there's questions people have, all razer seems to do is say 'contact customer service'. Which isn't very cool when you're sitting there wondering wth is happening with the direction of it all.
Still love the phone though. Best specs of anything out there, sounds like just as many bugs as the pixel 2 or the iphone x too. heh
And it's a bonus to razer since this is their first and those companies have been doing it awhile.

I was on live chat yesterday, they said they will go through with the warranty team and try send me a new charger. They will probably just send out the same thing. The dash charge cable my oneplus 3t had was proper thick and that was charging at around 3000-4000mA on average till like 60%, then it would usually slow it down but that was a proper quick charge.
I connect this cable, it pushes to 3000mA for like 5 seconds and then goes back down to 1900mA. I think its either that the equipment they are using is just crap and not ready for quick charge or that they have large number of defective charging units.
Sad to be bumping this but I also have huge amount of noise coming from the charger, I have to say that 60% on standard phones is half or less of what 60% on the razer is, but yeah there is no difference for me from QuickCharge 3 and 4+, it's quite weird.
I'm going to go through and get a new charger, also the cable's lining is also ruined somehow, detached from one of the USB-C ends and as far as I can see seems to be protruding some alloy, most likely just some protection but it's really just what usually happens, also with mices from Razer.
Goodluck to everyone.
I'm using both the included one and my old nexus 6p one and both charge rapidly and pretty freaking fast too
I've come to a conclusion and still awaiting feedback from Razer aswell to confirm this, that either my phone is defective or Razer are claiming to have this phone equipped with QC 4+ but it really is not.
Qualcomm say:
When Quick Charge 4 was announced, it promised to bring even faster charging than its predecessor, allowing a device to go from empty to 50 percent in just 15 minutes.
The current Quick Charge 4 technology, announced in November of last year, promises five hours of charge in five minutes, a 20 percent improvement in charging speed and 30 percent improvement in efficiency than the previous Quick Charge system.
The company announced even more improved specs today: the Quick Charge 4+ system, which the company promises is up to three degrees cooler, up to 15 percent faster and 30 percent more efficient than Quick Charge 4.
So can anyone confirm that you are getting these numbers when charging your phone? No way near what Im getting. I've tested and compared the charge speed using Ampere App and could not see a single difference between QC 3.0 and 4+ on this phone. I've used the original wall adapter + usb c cable combinations as well as using a standard QC 3.0 wall adapter and a usb 3.1/3.0 cable.
The phone starts charging at around 3800mA upto 25% then reduces drastically to 1800mA and charges to full charge. Issue lies here because at 1800mA the phone is NOT quick charging. It charges quick upto 25%, very quick actually but after 25% it charges very slow. I know the fact that due to heat the phone will not charge at 3800mA throughout so would need to drop but this drop should not be at 25%. My oneplus 3T used to charge at around 3000-4000mA 60-70% then used to drop towards 1500mA-2500mA mark and would complete the charge at this rate. It was very quick, 0-70% was like in 30 minutes.
This is what I've got yesterday.
Started Charge @ 14:53 / 15% / 3800mA
14:57 / 21% / 42 mins untill full
15:01 / 26% / 44 mins untill full
Charge current decreased from 3800mA to 1800mA
15:06 / 30% / 50 mins untill full
15:10 / 34% / 51 mins untill full
15:15 / 39% / 49 mins untill full
15:21 / 46% / 45 mins untill full
15:27 / 51% / 42 mins untill full
15:41 / 64% / 33 mins untill full
16:02 / 80% / 20 mins untill full
16:16 / 91% / 10 mins untill full
16:30 / 96% / 5 mins untill full
16:38 / 98% / 3 mins untill full
16:45 / 100% / Charged
Took 108 minutes for full charge from 15%. This cant be right for sure? Can anyone confirm.
Note: I've had no apps running or anything in the background. Also note at 14:57 it said 42 minutes for full charge, 30 minutes later it was still saying 42 minutes for full charge
I think I'm going through the same thing. I'll charge and test it.
My experiences are similar to others. I am not using the box charger. I am using 2 types: Motorola TurboPower 30 USB-C, and the AUKEY 70W Charging station (Using the QC 3.0 port). I have no idea if its doing QC4+.. It just says "charging rapidly". I am using an app called AccuBattery pro. It is at 85%. See the attached picture for the metrics charging on the Motorola charger. The one thing I miss, which my Nexus 6 did without an app, it would tell me how much time until full.

I have the same exact issue
Can you guys all test your charge using the Ampere app and jot down the numbers like I have done. Make sure you put it on charge when the battery is below 25%. If everyone is getting the same numbers then the phone does not come with QC 4.0+ and/or it cannot handle heat properly hence it is only charging quick upto 25%. Or else, some of us have bad units.

I'm experiencing the same behavior you are using the QC4+ Charger and cable that came with it.
I did get in touch with Razer and at first they were not willing to accept that there is a problem and they were insisting that the behaviour was normal. After forcing them to "explain" why it was normal, they could not really say anything so they gave up on it and now they are saying I could send the device in for them to check it. I also got the half screen freezing issue which I believe is a hardware problem (somewhere on this forum and Razer forum confirmed) so I have just put a RMA request and will be testing out the replacement device when I get it. If the replacement phone is no different and all you guys are getting the same numbers then like I said, I dont think Quick Charge 4+ is implemented to their devices and its just "false advertising". I cant think of anything else.
Had the same issue charging stops at 20%
but the problem is not constantly appearing
Well so far we have yet to see someone come and say Quick Charge on their phone works after 25%.
Bit of a misunderstanding
So first of all Qualcomm states up to 50% battery in 15 minutes, but that will only hold true if used on the smallest of smartphone batteries aka round or just bellow 2000mah.
So technically 1000mah in the first 15 mins which will be about %25 of the razer's 4000mah battery.
Razer is selling the chargers themselves on Amazon on the razer store and in the description they quote up to %50 battery in 40 minutes which in real life means 50 percent in ideal lab situations.
So your phone and charger are working correctly and at the maximum nowadays technology allows.
Just always remember with anything new that comes out with technology like when they touted the up to 4g speeds theoretical limit this and that etc hardly anyone if ever anyone will ever have the pleasure of experiencing the up to... that has been touted.
I hoped this helped and maybe clarified things for some people.

There is nothing to misunderstand here. The last phone I used had a 3400mAh battery and charged to 60% in 30 minutes. Razer has the extra 600mAh yes, maybe the charge technologies are not exactly the same yes agree on that too, but this does not mean that the 4000mAh Razer could only handle Quick Charge upto 25%. Whats the point of having the technology if the remaining 75% is going to be slow. Doesnt make any sense, Quick Charge 3.0 devices dont work like this so why should it be this way on this phone.
Took 108 minutes for full charge from when the phone was on 15%. Said 42 minutes for full charge. 30 minutes later it was still saying 42 minutes for full charge.
Im just not convinced that Quick Charge 4+ is working as it should on this phone. Either software or hardware related dont know but something is wrong. On this forum or the Razer forum cant exactly remember but some guys were saying how the provided usb c cable was not even a proper usb c cable and it was too thin. Just thinking maybe that might also be a reason or maybe not i dont know.
For a 3400 mah battery to charge to 60% in 30mins you would need more than 7amp charger .
I don't even know one if they exist.

A70 "Super fast charging" ! Really ?

Hi guys,
For those having the A70, does the "Super Fast Charging" feature work for you ?
With the original provided charger (with the "Super Fast Charging" logo on it), I need 3 hours to go from 9% to 100%.
So that is 1% every 2 minutes...
I do not consider this a "Super fast". I think it is "Decent" but would not go above that...
For me, this a severe disappointment... Unless of course I am doing something wrong
Anyone else can share his results for Super fast charging here ?
Regards.
Your phone must have an error. Mine lasts about 1:20 to charge from about 15% to 100%.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your answer.
The phone... or the charger maybe ?
Is there something to enable to have that "Super Fast Charging" ?
Or something to not disable ?
If I can solve battery drain (not really lasting as I expect) and this, I will think again about keeping the phone.
So far, it's more a non keeper
Regards.

Hello . Do you charge it with the screen closed? Only then fast charging works! IF yes then something is wrong with either the cable or the charger .You could also try a factory reset !

Hi,
Thanks for the info => Super Fast Charging only with display off ?
So if I leave "Always On" it will not work ?
Maybe that is why...
Anyways, I did as you suggested : I have done a full factory reset, and I have installed the bare minimum of Apps.
We will see about battery drain an battery charging.
I'll keep you posted.
Best regards.

Go to Device Care then Battery then the three dots on top right then Settings then make sure "Fast cable charging" is enabled

Hi Sufyan3D,
Thanks a lot for that info...
I've made sure that the fast charge is enabled.
So far, the device is still at 100% so I can't say if the problem is "solved", but I'll make sure to report if now it charges as it should
And also about battery drain...
Regards.
That's correct! OK check it now and tell us! No battery drain, this thing is a beast! Keep us posted!

Hi,
So far, I cannot tell about the Fast charge.
But the phone is almost idle (really gently used) with "Always on" enabled.
It's been idle since about 3hours and battery is at 98%.
I consider this a rather good result.
Hope it'll stay as it is once I install all my apps...
If not, I'll try to track the culprit for the high battery drain.
Regards.
I have same problem, after reading your post, I drained my battery to 9% and charge, it so slow while charging.

Hi guys,
Well I think it is confirmed that my phone has a problem.
The battery drain is more than acceptable.
I drove my kid to school yesterday. It is a 80 minute trip to go there and come back.
While I drove her, I used the A70 as a GPS whilst it was connected to car audio with Bluetooth.
Battery drain in 80 minutes was a little less than 10% which is quite good I think...
Then I played a bit with the phone and went to bed.
This morning it still had 84% battery.
So that is about 2% battery drain overnight.
Not stellar but acceptable.
So I decided to hook it up.
The battery panel reports "Fast charging plugged in".
But after 40 minutes, I am still at 98% charge.
That means 40 minutes to get 10% battery.
I am aware that the last 10% are the longest, but still... 40 minutes for 10% ?
I will test with another charger to see if it is the phone or the charger...
Regards.

Download a free app called "Ampere" from the Play Store, to measure your charging current. Plug the phone into the charger then open the App to get the measurements. Post your result here and compare with other A70 owners.
App shows that my charging current is around 1100mah (with the 25w charger)
I landed here as I was surprised how slow my A70 was to charge. It takes around 3 hours to get from 15% to full, using the included Samsung 3A charger & original cable. Ampere shows the current trickling in at around 850mA. Super Fast Charging is enabled. My previous phone was a Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite which charged at around 2A according to Ampere.
PS I found this link which suggests most of the fast charging happens early in the cycle https://www.sammobile.com/2019/05/02/how-fast-is-samsung-25w-super-fast-charging
The Charger is rated at max 2.77 amps and 9 volts for fast charging. It will vary through the charging cycle though. Towards the end, above 80%, the charging will slow. How long does it take from 15% to 80% and what is the measurement in the middle of that?

Will need to measure that the next time I charge it as it's now at 100%! How long does yours take from 15 to 80%?

I've never tested it. I have fast charge turned off. I charge my phone over night. The battery lasts me all day every day.
Samsung A70 Failed!!
I think A70 is failed in all fields.
No porper GCam. And now batteries.
My device getting charged in around 4 hours with original cable and charger.
Now I think I invest 27k in wrong item. OnePlus 7 or realme 3 pro was far better than A70.
It's just name Samsung, nothing else. Blank box with tag of Samsung. Really disappointing with this.
Sorry to fans of Samsung devices. But I don't like this. After 2011 (Samsung Galaxy Y s5360), I think Samsung is better nowadays but I was wrong. I will never buy Samsung phone again.

I am not facing such issues in my device. Regarding development, for a device like a70, development is always slow. We have the source codes available. The only thing missing is developers onboarding to support the device. If at least 1 dev puts the kernel and device source codes and tree in github, I bet development will start soon after.

I took some readings with Ampere during a charge:
0 mins 8% battery 4050mA
30 mins 38% battery 1060mA
60 mins 52% battery 1050mA
90 mins 66% battery 1020mA
120 mins 81% battery 1080mA
150 mins 91% battery 1000mA
180 mins 100% battery
So 3h from nearly empty to full which is not exactly fast. Is this in line with what others get?
