Battery Problem

Hi. I have a Voda branded TP2.
I have installed the 1% battery indicator and have realised that the battery is dropping at an alarming rate. In two hours without any data activity, just two calls of 5 mins each and the battery has already reached 74%. The number drops in front of my eyes. Quite scary actually.
Anybody else faced a similar porblem?

2 things I can advice you (as a TP2 beginner)
-First times: charge up to 12 hours non-stop even when light is green (has nothing to do with phone but with the chemical proces inyour battery) this will prolong lifetime
-This TP2 WWE ROM has a lot (and I mean A LOT!) of background running stuff compared to other WM 6.1 - ROMS. So you thing it is not using any current but it is!
Maybe you could install advance task manager and check out all running programs and processes ...

Had a strange one last night. Went to be, put the phone on charge (was about 16% iirc), and the orange light came on to say it was charging. Then, this morning at about 3am, I hear the phone making bleeps. Check it out, and it's at 5%, with orange light flashing. Take out charger, put it back in, and it starts charging. I went out afterwards, came back about 4.30, and it says it was about 80% complete. Go sleep, wake up about 7.30am, and it's fully charged (green light). Then, I unplug charger, turn on, and it says 96%, and I notice it dropping the amount of charge in front of me (like OP's notice), until it got to about 91%.
Now, about 5 hours later, it reckons the charge is 74%. So dunno why it went down so quickly, and why it didn't actually charge... But will keep my eye on it and see how it goes...

Another way 2 keep your eye on it: check data connection (start>settings>connections>comm manager) a lot of stuff open this connection which uses power. if it turns on without you knowing .... (especially auto-update plugins (weather?)), sometimes AS also ...

I really don't know what to think of LiPo battery management, so many different theories.
Also, something that annoys me is that I fully charge the TP2 overnight, in the morning the lights green. If I simply unlug charger and plug in back in it well go back orange and stay orange for a good half hour... and I can start again a few times...

To be honest, I had to hard reset my device couple of times and haven't had time to 'fully' recharge it after the resets.
I guess I will give it a few days of full charging and then check on the battery.
But, I am not joking when the 1% battery meter just drops numbers faster than a meter at the gas station.

I had this problem when I have push mail turn on. If you disable push mail and set it to receive like every 15 mins, it save the power a lot.
Try the advance config to auto disconnect every x mins, this will helps as well.

yep your source isn't to bad. Beginning with full charges (6 to 12 hrs instead of 3 like the manual says) isn't about the old charge-memory story (because Lithium-Ion battery don't work this way, only the nickel-cadmium and nimH do) but about fully charging cells.
I mean the best way to look upon this is like a pile of bricks on top of each other (all different cells if you wish). So the first time it is important to give all the bricks enough time to charge - so even when it says 100% it does not mean that it has (you're indicator is a feedback of a reading by your cpu). So not all the bricks (let's say) have the same quality (yesyes even in this day and age of hight teck).
So you can also take this parallel to discharging: if you discharge fully, you risk that one of these bricks get busted and so will NEVER recover.
So i agree on this with your source a LiOn batter is bettery served with frequent partial charging and must NEVER be drained completely

I put the TP2 on for charging the whole night (about 9 hours). In the morning the LED was green and the battery meter said 100%. I took the charger off from the handset and re-inserted the tip in. Guess what? 95%.
AM not sure if it is a battery problem or handset problem?
Its come down to 73% with just one phone call of 5 mins. Mail is on, but its on manual and havent pulled anything since morning.
Any idea?

Do you have a 3500mah battery? What is the best way you have found to charge it?

I bought a 3500mah extended battery about a week ago. When I got it, I turned off the evo, inserted the extended battery, and charged the device while powered off for approximately 8 hours. I did this for the first few days. Each subsequent charge, I plug the phone in, power it on, and leave it plugged in for approximately 8-9 hours with the Savaged Zen 2.2.1 SBC CFS kernel.
During this period, I was able to get about 12-14 hours of battery under heavy, almost constant usage. With light usage (texts/twitter/trillian) I was able to pull about 40 hours.
In the last few days however, my battery life has halved. It is still better than the stock battery, but not by much. I am able to pull in around 6 hours of heavy/constant usage before the battery dies. Has anyone experienced this? I've looked at all the tips and tricks and don't see anything that specifically addresses how to charge the bigger battery. I was under the impression that 8 hours with an SBC kernel would fill the battery completely.
Should I be charging the battery with the phone off?
PS: I have tried wiping the battery stats and that has not seemed to help.

It's SOOO MUCH BETTER on the battery! Plus there's never a chance you'll pull it off the charger before it is finished. Just swap between your normal battery and the 3500 back and fourth for the best results. But everyone knows that our phones won't charge the batteries correctly.
A simple search for t7373 battery charger will take you to places to buy this at. DO NOT OVERPAY FOR IT! I got mine in a 20 buck package. got 2 batteries, this thing, 2 screen covers, case, and so on. 3 clear cases. lol bunch of stuff. on ebay.

try reconditioning the battery, charge until full(green light) the unplug and after light goes out plug it in again, repete until you get the orange charging light then let it charge fully(green charged lite). see if that helps

but all that's doing is overcharging it. The average person doesn't have that much time to waste. lol plus the only way it works is if you do it on a daily basis. However, the funny thing is HTC/Sprint actually posted that as an official fix. HAHAHA! It's really just a trick to get the not so smart people to do it and shut up. lol! It's not conditioning it. wait until battery is almost empty then swap battery and let it charge outside of phone. then put back in. ;-)
edit. just remembered. wasn't people having issues fully charging these 3500s? I'm almost sure they were. yeah. the only way to charge them fully is actually outside the unit! I COMPLETELY forgot about that! Did HTC ever fix that issue? I could be wrong. so need an expert in here to give a second opinion. thanks lol

so you think its better to carry and swap out batteries and reboot everytime plus buy an extra charger. no thanks, i'll do the not for smart people every once in awhile.
edit: dont know havent heard about any issues not fully charging 3500, or if it is better to use stand alone battery charger

charge it however you like.. I see no difference in results no matter how you do it.. the results in life completely depends on use and how much stuff you have on.. Getting in the habit of turning data off and sync, bluetooth, gps etc is the best way to extend battery life. Charging it full is full.. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever to "recondition" it.. when you fill something up.. how does it get "more full" than full.. logic tells you it's complete bs.. unless you want to believe it then I'm not here to convince you of what is and isn't.. Use the system settings toggles to turn your stuff off.. data and sync are the biggest killers.. You'll still get calls and messages.. just turn it on when you actually want to use your browser.. sittin in your pocket is just wasting precious battery..

Thanks for the input. I'm going to hold off on buying a charger and attempt to charge it as suggested in a couple of these posts. If that doesn't work, I'll invest in the external charger and report back.

GreenTea, any updates on this? I just bought the 3500 and an external charger (why not for $5 a piece). I'm wondering if there's any issues charging inside the phone and whether or not I need to wipe batt stats.

I know this is an old issue, but maybe I can add some input:
I have a Seidio 3500mAh battery I use for my Evo 4G (used it in the my HTC Hero first, then in my Evo 4G). I can get roughly four to five days with little use out of the battery (I'm using CM7.1 right now)...until I turn on 4G.
Once I turn on 4G, I may get eight to ten hours out of it with light use.
What you may want to do is keep the 4G radio off until you need it...this hopefully will improve battery performance.

You need to download BATTERY MONITOR WIDGET. Put the widget on your home screen. Monitor voltage while charging. Full is 4200mV. Anything less is not full. Recently, i can not get it past 4180mV. Sometimes, I charge overnight with phone off, then plug into my car charger going to work with phone on to try and top it off.
Calibration nor conditioning will fix the issue. It is the kernels and they just are not right yet for gingerbread.

With moderate to heavy use I'll be able to pull in 12-15 hours on a full charge with my 3500 mah non-seido battery. Light usage will net me about 40-48 hours. SBC seems to give a couple more hours if the phone is plugged in and turned on during charging. I live in an area without 4G, so I cannot respond to 4G battery use. I've heard it is a battery killer though.

What is the battery life like on the first charge?

I am getting the phone for christmas and was just wondering if I have my parents charge it the night before, will it last me all day? What is battery life like on the first charge?

You'll likely burn through it pretty fast on a first charge. Best I know, it's not optimal until about 3-4 cycles.

Mine was pretty horrendous at first and then again for the following couple of cycles after that. Now on 4.0.2 and a number of cycles in and I think the battery life is stellar when you consider the screen size. Pretty similar to my GSII so cannot complain.
My advice. .. take the charger.

I got about an hour of continuous tinkering after a 10 minute charge. Had to plug it in after that.

The first charge will be the longest lasting charge you will ever have on this battery - depending on your usage.
LiIons degrade a wee tiny little bit with every subsequent charge.

While this is true, I dont think its calibrated the first time.
I got my nexus yesterday and charged it up from 50 to full and it was literally at 0% 10 hours later, today is a different story, I've been able to get about 12 hours of use out of it and have about 35% battery left

Calibration only affects the battery icon, if they use poor logic to calculate the charge. The system can read battery voltage precise to 0.001 volts and it's actually quite easy to gauge a LiIon cell: 4.200 V = full, 3.600 V = empty (without load on the battery)
My first charge only lasted about 5 hours, and that was because I was playing with the thing the whole damn time. ;-)

My first charge
This is what I got on my first full charge. Was on Wifi for most of the time. Bluetooth was on often in the beginning to transfer files.
Used GPS for like. Facebook sync was off. Gmail, Google+ on. No Reader, Google Photos, Docs sync.

I bought the extended battery and it both were about 40% charged. You'll want to burn it down completely till it powers off, then give it a full cycle.
You'll kill it just by setting it up, playing some games, playing with the OS, reading XDA Rooting guides, taking pictures etc.
Just kill it, then put it on the charger while you get a shower and dressed.
...then you'll probably kill it again by the end of the day cause you can't stop plating with it.

battery test

Good day, im using a mugen battery (3600 mah) on my play, but it seems to me that im not gettin as much battery life as i should be.
I tried the battery test you can use with the *#*#7378423#*#* option, left my cellphone running it while i was sleeping and saw no progress bar on anything that showed how the test was going.
Woke up and saw no difference, hit back button and it displayed test not done yet but still closed it, how does this test work? how much does it last if 8 hours were not enough?
Is there any other good battery tests i can try?

i dont have any battery tests other than using battery widget pro, you could test how long its been running with your usage, i get 1day20hours with the stock 1500mah battery, so you should get 3 days and more with 3600mah?,

Well, my battery life with the MUGEN 3600mAh battery was that I got down to 14% battery after 2 days 2 hours and 49 mins of the phone being on and used for the whole duration (what I mean is that the time shown doesn't include when the phone was off). I was listening to music constantly, reading manga, surfing the web (wifi nearly always on), downloading & installing apps, playing on the GBA and N64 emulators. So a decent amount of usage

Note: Sorry to bring this discussion on top after one year, but I want to share my informations regarding this subject. And I hope will be useful for others.
I made on one month ago, a test battery using the Battery test from service menu (*#*#7378423#*#*). This test will check how log will take to discharge your phone battery from 100% to 70% (which is the Min Level value).
To make this test you should have a charged battery to 100%.
If you don't have the battery charged the result text will be: Plug in charger.
After a charger is plugged the text will be changed to: Charging.. Also the Curr Level value will increasing.
Automatically when the battery is charged, the result text will became: testing... and status: Full
From this moment you should remove the plug in charger from phone to let the battery to discharging, don't touch the phone during testing.
If you touched the phone a warning message will be displayed at the end.
In my case the entire test take 4 hours and 20 minutes.
During the test the phone will be put automatically in Flight mode.

Battery life decrease when charging every night?

So my question is basically asked in the title already.
But to get you all you all to the background story, I use my gnex 5 days in a week as alarm, (2 days off, thank god i can sleep little longer in the weekend), but sometimes my gnex is nog fully recharged or has not that much battery left to hold on the whole night till my alarm will ring and wake me up.
So is it harmful to my battery when it recharges the whole night or is there some kind of system that will prevent the phone from recharging when its full?

First of all, all Li-ion batteries will stop charging when they're full, second, if you haven't noticed yet, try to look at your battery percent after a night of charging, it will almost never be at 100% but 98-99, and that is because the GN reflects the real state of the battery, unlike other phones in which you'll see the batt at 100% once you unplug it, but it'll drop to 98 in 10 seconds, the GN will stop charging when the batt reaches 100 and restart charging when it reaches 98 again, so, the battery will never overcharge, and to your question - no, this will not decrease your battery's life, of course not using the battery at all may help, but that's just stupid, charge you phone as much as you want, that's what it's there for, and even if you think your battery is gone (theoretically after 5 years of use..) then just buy another one.
