HTC One M9 Wifi and Bluetooth not working - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my sd slot was messed up so I took it to get repaired, the guy fixed it but now wifi and bluetooth don't work properly. It only works when I'm extremely close to the router/bluetooth device and even an inch or two away and it disconnects. Is there any way I can fix this myself, or anywhere I can take it to to get fixed? I've tried but the guy I took it to had no idea how to fix it. I read knocking near the rear camera fixed it for some people, but I've tried that and it doesn't seem to work, and since I'm assuming the guy physically broke it somehow I doubt it's a software issue. Thanks.

Did he connect everything properly?. The WiFi and Bluetooth, I believe, are one in the same chip, or at least on the same board.
It could be a case of replacing the board but if it works close to the router then I'd say that maybe there's a problem with the antenna, if there is one. If there isn't I'd blame the cable supplying the power to that board..
The m9 is notoriously difficult to work on and it is VERY likely the repair was accidentally botched. The new problem is asking someone else to investigate and repair it properly. Don't tell the new guy it was buggered by someone else or he probably won't touch it.

I fixed it myself! I opened up the phone as a last resort basically to see if even my noob eye could detect anything, and I think I got what happened. There were two cables that were disconnected and I simply plugged it in and it worked. Thanks man.

Side not missing :
I took the photo's with my old XDA II so give me a break here anyway cut to the chase the tiny little screw is missing on that one side. I've tried radioshack/sears hardware etc, and I cannot seem to find a replacement, I don't know where to go or what to do from here.
*EDIT* - I just realized I posted this in the wrong category it should be moved to Accessories, since a screw is an Accessory, I'm sorry.
How wierd is this...I have the same screw missing on the same side!
Could it be a design fault?

I'm not sure, I don't remember it falling out, but I just recalled seeing that it was gone.
But I've also looked at : http://www.itbox.com.au/catalog/images/itbox-xda-2-s.jpg
and I notice there are screws in both sides! Maybe its a common thing to lose a screw on that side because of the keyboard or something... but I want a new screw!
I too missed it a few days before. I had to take it to service center and get it fixed with a new one.
They charged my Dhs 5 (aprox U$ 1.35)
same screw on same side.
That screw just popped out. Good thing the unit was in my pocket and the screw didnt get lost.
I was forced to buy a specialized screw driver just to put the screw back.

Your lucky you still had the screw. I've Had the exact same proplem except my screw got lost!! Anyway After much argueing with orange, I got a contact number for HTC that got me though to an answerphone. I left a message on that and they called me back and sent me some screws for free!!! If I find the number I'll post it up here. As they sent me four screws I could send one out to someone if they REALLY need it. You will need a Tork 6 screwdriver to fit it back.
Please tell your company who you got the phone from as well as calling up HTC. When I spoke to orange and HTC for that matter they told me that they have had no other reports of this happerning to others despite loads reports of it on here.
thats interesting that it happened to all of us that same way hehe, well I need a new one and I've tried every hardware store possible =(
Am also missing one. is my 3de MDA! first 2 where exchanged by t-mobile for the missing screw and a hardware problem. think they aren't really tightened... hope anyone got some link or adres where i can get them!

[Q] No speaker sound after multiple ROM flashes

I first flashed my Touch Diamond about a year ago and lost the sound. I had a new phone at the time so I just left but I am keen to get it going again for a friend to use.
I followed the steps here (currently forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211) and curently have radio "1.00.25.05" and the SPL is "SPL-1.34.Hard"
It doesn't seem to matter what ROM I flash the sound still doesn't come through the speaker although I've recently noticed that it does work when using the headphones.
I have tried soft and hard resets as well as clearing the internal storage. I've also tried MTTY without much success (total noob there so I could have been doing it wrong).
What else can I try to fix this issue as I've run out of ideas?
Update: HTC startup sound doesn't come through the headphones so it only seems to work once it's booted up.
As i can see I will give you the answer
I've experienced the same problem one year ago...I didn't flashed my phone but I had the same problem..NO SOUND..
So my friend the only thing you have to do is to:
1)just move all your Files to your PC(move them,do not copy them)!
2)hard reset your phone
3)put the files back again in your internal storage
AND YOU ARE READY!!!
I did all of these steps and I solved the problem...give it a try,you don't have to lose something..!
Please let me know if this method will solve the problem...
PEACE

Everything else seems to be working fine. Just the speaker sound isn't working.
Might i suggest you disassemble your diamond and clean the metalic plating both on your speaker and circuit board above.
Here i provide the pdf
I can guarantee this will solve ur problem if the case is just dust and dirt contanimation.
IMPORTANT. While you are cleaning, please DO NOT make any rough cleaning on the circuit boards and especially around the metalic plates
SO essentially what you need to clean is this part ONLY...

So basically you are just going to remove 3 screws and clean the top cover and platings. DONT MESS WITH ANYTHING ELSE.
DISCLAIMER: I do not take any responsibility whatsoever happens from your side, or any other reasons involved.

I can't believe it, that actually worked. It didn't work after I had cleaned but as soon as everything was screwed on again it starting working again. A million thanks to you.

The reason why it started to work as soon as the screws were in place is because, some screws in the device enable the contact between the circuit board and the device components.
This is done by manufacturers to minimize the use of wires and any other "additional" component needed to complete the circuit. Thus they make use of components in the device to their maximum possible to carry out an electric contact or function, be it a screw or anything else EXCEPT the ones you are in direct contact with, like a stylus...
**and nope this is not a class** hehehehe. i m jus sharing my knowledge.
because jus in case one removes a screw and loses it....you can say their devices are really SCREWED NOW!!!!
haha

GPU fault after falling

Hello guys. I'm currently trying to fix a friends HOX that fell and now the screen doesn't always display image although we can see it always lighting up (it turns on but stays black) .
If I press hardly the HOX's area in red while turning it ON, it works fine. I'm assuming this could be some broken welding points but would like your opinion.

I'm thinking of heating the area with a heat gun, but I'm afraid I'll kill the rest of the phone... what do you think?
Also, after disassembling the phone, the vibration stopped working and I've checked every flat cable and every connector I could find...no ideas to fix this one since it was working before I cracked the phone open.
Any comments are greatly appreciated.
Tks

Possibly a chip has become partly detached from the solder ball grid array due to the shock of the fall. You will not be able to repair this by heating, even if you could reach the melting point of the solder.
The manufacturer would repair by replacing the circuit board and the existing one would be considered unserviceable.
Regards
Phil
So in resume, my friend has a HOX for spare parts... damn...
Couldn't you pack the inside of the housing at the point where you need to apply pressure? Using a piece of card or something. Hardly ideal but would make it functional again
That has been my first attempt, and it's better but still, not enough.
I'm going to disassemble it for the tenth time in a final effort...
tks for the tip though!
So, I've just realized the back metal plate comes out nicely and I think I've found the problem for the GPU issue... that small component on the red area has a broken piece lol (WTF!)
I have applied pressure directly on top of it and I think it will be usable like this, but it now needs a bit of daily use to check if I'm right or wrong.
Can anyone identify what component type is that?
Also, unfortunately (and I don't have a clue how this has happened), the vibration stopped working after opening the phone on the first time, any one has any ideas of what to look for? I don't see any flex cable cut or any other damaged parts...
Tks guys.
Problem solved, some back pressure on the broken piece and the hox is good to go.
The only thing still not working is the vibration...

Broken connector!

Hi guys, i recently got an htc one x which had signal problem, going into detail, i found that one of the connectors of the antenna cable is completely wiped off (soldered out) from the motherboard. the cable itself is fine
Is there anything that can be done?
I mean can i connect the antenna cable (core wire) to somewhere else to get it working,
PS. Currently, i only get signal at a few places, that too outside in open areas where signal strength is high.

Hey,
sorry to hear that. I have dealt with similar connectors in the past (on a laptop wifi card - results were 30% less signal) and in my experience its better to buy the connector and soldier it to the board if you can.
Good luck with the repair
Thanks

@Thant Thanks for the reply, but where to solder it, nothing is left there, i'll post the pics of my phone's board to make it more clear.
@peshko69
Thanks brother, i'll let this in the hands of experts, will hand it over to a good engineer
I was just worried coz one repair person said nothing can't be done now, as connector isn't there.

Suddenly my camera has gone crazy

It was fine a day ago, nor do I remember it falling this bad.
It has suddenly just gone broke, the rear camera. It's upside down and is blurry. It only supports 2.1MP
The fronts fine, and the rear won't also work with any app except camera apps.
My flashlight is also gone.
I always have a cover on and I don't drop my phone. Maybe it did from 10cms but that doesn't count, I guess.
Tried reflashing rom however no good.
Please help, thankyou.

It's most likely a hardware issue.
Chances to be from software are almost 0, but you can try...

What?
"Tried reflashing rom however no good." quoted from your earlier post.
The way you worded it in that post was that after re-flashing the ROM, it didn't fix your issue.
As @lucyr03 said above, it's probably a hardware issue. It doesn't sound like a software problem, so flashing a ROM wouldn't fix it.
You could try running an RUU (which will wipe everything from your phone and set it up like fresh out of the box), but I really doubt that would help.
Having a hardware issue means that you need parts replaced. Send it for repairs or buy a new phone.

Meant flash light lol sorry
Anyway guess will have to get it repaired...
I recently replaced the Micro USB module on my HTC One M8 and in the process broke the pin that connects the GPS module to the antenna integrated into the rear cover. I managed to 'bodge' a fix for this with a bit of tinfoil to make the connection between the two that I no longer had due to the pin breaking. I noticed earlier that my rear camera and flash was behaving the same as yours and I can only assume I have damaged something in the removal/replacement of the rear cover.
I saw a post from another M8 owner saying they had the same behaviour you describe but when the cover was removed the camera and flash worked normally. They said it was a short somewhere on the camera module to the rear case. They put some non-conductive material between the camera module and the rear case and it fixed the issue.
I am going to take it apart (again...) tomorrow and see if I get the same behaviour and see if I can fix it.
Andy
EDIT: Just taken the back off again and the camera behaves the same - i.e. not working properly and I can't see anyting obvious as to what the issue could be. Probably a hardware issue.
I am using the stock OpenGapps so have Google Camera replaces the default Lineage camera and in the settings for this it doesn't even give options for the rear camera.
I have put it back together - looks like its time to order a new phone
