I need to change the DPI and for my last few phones it has been easy to adjust the Smallest Width setting in the Developer Options, but I cannot see this option with Nougat on the HTC 10.
What happened to this setting on the HTC 10?
I am aware of the Display Size settings in Display options which is similar but different.

I just updated to nougat and even though I use the smallest text and display size possible things are still not as small as the nougat preview pictures posted by websites to show how small it can get, did Sony limit the smallest size? As everything still feels rather large, and i compared to fullscreen pictures of nougat in smallest size it's definitely bigger.
Try at settings -> accessibility -> display size.
Setting > About phone > tap on build number 7 times to enable developer options
Developer options > Smallest width
You can change your density settings here on nougat. I am using 600 and its pretty small.
Another method is adb wm size / density.
I was using that previously but i find nougat new density setting takes up less screen battery usage.

f**king brilliant! Was searching for that, too, but would have never suspected this particular setting! Wow.

Hello,
in display settings on Android Oreo there is an option to change display size and i allways have it on "small" but there is a problem with one app that seem not to adjust to this settings and it is impossible to use it because all buttons and text are deformed and they overlay on each other. The problem disappears when i change the display size to "default". So here comes my question: is there any way to keep overall display on small and somehow make it change automatically to default only for this app?
Is there a way to make those huge notifications and quick settings pane smaller? I have all the screen settings set to smallest and that makes the notifications seem ginormous. Are there any hidden settings I'm not aware of? Running Magic 3.0.
Just out of curiosity what smallest width number are you guys running? I know you can make some adjustments to display size/font size in display settings but I'm talking about the number you set in developer options. I'm running 512 looks pretty good to me. The options in display settings didn't allow me to go as small as I wanted.

Do you mean DPI or PPI?
If you are referring to PPI (jea 512 is the P6 Pro max) this does not change the actual PPI of the screen (obviously), only sets DPI scaling (ability to adjust the size of on-screen content).
Decreasing the value will give you larger icons and make text easier to read.
Increasing it will make on-screen elements smaller and fit more content on the screen.
You can also achieve that with the Pixel launcher built-in font & screen size options, so I don't really see the point here. (Settings -> Display -> Font size / Display size).

The point is pretty simple, the adjustments in the display settings only go so far. I want on-screen elements smaller than those settings allow. Smallest options in settings gives you a minimum width of 484 and I wanted a higher number. Guess I should have just said the smallest width settings in developer options.
510 here and much preferring it!

Hi! I'm sorry to bother you but I have a question, that is, you see my phone is oppo f9 and I have 432 dp and I'd like to change it to 700. Can I change it to that number? if yes, does it affects my phone performances? The "developer options" is quite new for me, so I'd like to ask before taking action
I have been running smallest width 720 for a few years now, which I think translates to something like 320dp. I ran the same on my previous Note phones. It takes me a minute to focus in the morning but I enjoy the extra space and viewing websites in full desktop mode instead of fisher price mobile versions.
It's really up to you to fiddle with the number until you find something that works for you, but I can verify 700+ works fine without breaking anything.
FWIW I ran it at 1024 for awhile too, that didnt break anything either but was too small for me. I don't know what the exact cutoff is but at a certain resolution you'll notice that Android and apps will flip over to a tablet experience. I prefer this, but it may influence your choice.
592 dpi also with 6 pro and 7 pro
anyone using Poco X3 NFC ? any suggestion on your smallest width ?
Only tried up to 800 so far. Maybe try 1024 once i very comfy w 800.
Just recently updated to stock A13 OOS (unlocked BL and rooted, LE 2125), and am wondering what the best way to change the display density system wide? The default settings are not quite small enough for my taste. Additionally, changing the smallest width setting within Developer Settings causes some undesirable outcomes; space below keyboard/home screen, weird Google Now spacing.
Also, when changing the smallest width developer setting, some elements of the system don't seem to respect that setting including lock screen date and clock, stock launcher, etc. I would prefer not to flash any custom roms as most I've tried have too many bugs.
I was wondering if there's any ADB command, magisk module, or anything I could do to make the display density smaller?
Have you played with Settings Font and Display size....

Yes, display size is set to small, and so is font size
If it still comes out too big, i think you might have the same problem as I did. I had to factory reset after a fresh F16 install. No problems since.
You want this command:
adb shell wm density 560
Change the number until you find a density you like.
