Porting pixel

Now that we have kernel sources can we port the pixels camera or do we still need a few more things? Also when can we expect to see some roms that use the kernel sources for this device?

Hi guys , I have talked with a owner of Nexus 6P | Nexus 5x | Pixel | LG V20 and Developer of roms for this phones , and he makes the WETA Rom for this devices.
The first talk I had with him I asked him if we could get him a Mi5s if he could do a Nexus/Pixel experience for our Mi5s and seeing that he has a Pixel and some Nexus I think he would be perfect to Build a nice Pixel Rom for our devices.
But to do this we would have to make a Funding so we could get him a Mi5s.
What do you think about this?

It would be cool. And it can be arranged.
But look, the developer buys the phone, makes the firmware on it, what differences will it have from AOSP? A camera from a pixel?
I think the main thing that people are interested in is the creation of a mod that replaces the standard image processing libraries with similar ones from a Google pixel.
WETA rom will also be interesting, is it the focus on the audio capabilities of the phone?

I think we could ask him if he could port the Pixel Camera and it's capabilities to the Rom seeing that the Pixel has the same Sensor.
But yeah basically the WETA Rom as I understood it is focused on the Audio Capabilities and in Stability.
But the only thing is that we would have to join forces so we could all just donate 1€ or something like that and get him a Mi5s.

I don't personally know him , I just reached out to him when I bought my Mi5s so I could get an ideia if any Dev with a Pixel would be interested in developing Roms to the Xiaomi Mi5s
And he answered me with a positive note back at that time , now I have reached out to him again to see if he is still interested in making a Rom to our Mi5s in case we could get him one and as soon as he answers me I will ask him about the camera. Because as all of us , I too want a Pixel perfect Rom for our Xiaomi Mi5s , it would be the Cherry on top of the cake.

I would also make a bit of donations for his phone

i used weta on my previous gs6 and i must say, stable and good rom. Dev was quick in answering in that days..

Hi there , guys I'm sorry to have taken so much time to answer you, but this is because the Weta Dev stop answering me I don't know why.
I have talked with another Dev's from the Pixel Section and 3 Devs have answered me with a positive atitude saying that they wouldn't mind to try to Make a Pixel rom for our Mi5s.
Are you guys still interested in trying to get Money to buy them a Mi5s and seeing with they can do it?

I guess first we should choose which one of the Dev's we want to try it seeing that we have more than one.
Second I think would be to make a new Thread to see how many people can donate and see if we could get the money to buy the device.

Google Pixel Rom Development

Hi guys , as lot of us I want a Pixel Rom with the Pixel Experience and most of all the Pixel Camera (So we can really use our camera sensor )
I have been in talks we some Developers of Pixel Roms and ask them if they would be interested in trying to make a Pixel Rom for our Mi5s and 4 of them answered me with a positive answer.
I'm creating this thread because for them to try to build the Rom we would need to join forces and Donate enought money so we could purchase them a Mi5s.
So if you are interested in a Pixel Rom and don't mind giving up a Buck for the cause just let me know in the Pool to see if this would be possible.
So I created a CrowdFunding campaing to see if we can reach the goal , I set the goal to 460$ to see if we could get two Mi5s to the two Dev's who are most interested.
If you want this to happen just donate 1$ it's a Beer and it would help alot!

Lads , after the dev reach His potential, what Is he going to do with the device? Kept or send it to another one? I have questions about that

So have you actually found a developer who ported camera software from pixel/nexus phones before ? (I suppose camera is the main goal for us, no doubt pixel is doing this job much better having same hardware). The camera app itself doesn't affect picture quality that much, it is rather result of usage of underlying algorithms. Porting rom (or doing it feel it like pixel has from the box using lineage or another existing rom) won't be a big problem for a specialist, but all underlying software may not be so easily accessible, because it uses google developments that they likely don't want to expose. I'm not a rom developer so just want to clarify things (maybe they already released all required drivers in open source and it is only problem of testing it on a real device )

Hi there , I think the point would be for him to stay with the device and we would only consider that of sending to another one if the choosen Dev won't be able to do anything per say.

What I did was asking some Developers from the Pixel section if they would be interested in making a Pixel Rom for the Xiaomi Mi5s and if they would be able to try to Port the Camera Firmware or Algorithms from the Pixel to the Xiaomi Mi5s.
Of course they can't know for sure if they are going to be able to do it but they said they would love to try , and that's the best answer we can get from anyone to be honest.

We have broken closed source libs lolololo. The camera is the toughest part of all. Totally.

If there is progress in this direction, then certainly is good news.

I think the only possible problem for this is that Google locked their prop libs to work only on Pixel. But I doubt it!!
I have disassembled the Google camera application and it checks the phone if it is Pixel or not.
If the libs were locked down I think it would mean an unnecessary double check.
I am a software developer myself and I am considering porting this to our device, however, I have no experience with android so far so it will take a bit of time.

Nexus Experience rom is very similar to pixel. http://www.nxrom.us/mi5splus.html I can't tell a difference from it vs the pixel rom on my 5x other than some LOS features included.
Google photo thinks it's a pixel (unlimited storage)
Flashing the google camera - https://www.xda-developers.com/google-camera-hdr-ported takes care of the camera part, although I use a separate app for video recording since its video recording is buggy and FCs

Xiaomi is trying to hide something in regards to AI features.

I have been questioning Xiaomi in the MIUI Forum app on why the so called Redmi Note 5 AI had no real AI features in the camera nor AI preloading, as they bragged in the MIUI 10 launch. I noticed that everytime I post a thread questioning this, the thread gets deleted immediately. Can someone please explain what is going on? Why are they silently erasing threads instead of answering.

Well, miui forums is a place of chaos, so wouldnt surprise me if they just delete threads and questions they dont like. Also i dont think you will find anyone here who cares, as most people here use custom camera ports or gcam.

I mean .. why so much of fake marketing and all ... Im legit pissed off.

Then why you bought the phone if you are pissed? Every phone that has "AI" features (like huawei for example) are just some fake stuff that they claim for profit. Besides, the AI camera does not help with anything at all ( in my experience.)

Hi. I appreciate your help but the thing is I do not have any knowledge on Magisk and things like this. This is why I feel very uneasy about the dev team. Ive been searching for simple solutions like a mere apk install and such. But to my luck its no success. Why must the end user unlock the bootloader and all for just a mere feature that they promised. Not all have the knowledge to actually do this (like me haha).

Hi, Really thank you cuz i really don't like to share anything here, just wanted to let you try it out your self and see it's kinda useless.
See, the joy of using any android phone is when you are able to control everything, not like the iOS, try to read, search, experiment, observe...bla bla and with time you will be good.
Can't really imagine that I'm not rooted and the company controls everything!

I like the ios system however, the iphones are expensive as hell.

I've been trying different GCam apks all night trying to find one with astrophotography that actually works. Either they crash, or it doesn't actually save the photo.

Eh, there's nothing rough, I just keep forgetting that XDA has become chock-full of people who don't read, just comment (spamming threads with useless bits of "information"), and I'm generally used to communities that are more... Contextually coherent. Such as, when the title says Exynos, and I have a Snapdragon version, it's clear that I shouldn't comment in that thread.

I made a simple mistake, read too quick and didn't notice it said exynos, no need to be so salty. Just point out i missed and move on.
Moving on; Anyone had any luck finding a snapdragon version? I found a 7.2 gcam mod that works for snapdragon devices on a repository that works for astrophotography but can't utilize the full 108mp sensor main, the telephoto, or the front cam for portrait mode

We just need to be patient, in time we'll have the goodies rolling in. I bought the Unlocked N20U directly from Samsung, so I'm hoping I'll finally be able to root and install custom roms again after years of being locked down on Verizon phones.

Sadly I had to get the at&t variant, couldn't pass up the $300 deal and semi early delivery (got it roughly last week) but I'm excited to see what devs can do with any of the models, though personally most of the features I rooted my s8 for are on the note 20 ultra now so I'm mostly looking for a working gcam mod, I prefer the image quality especially on portrait mode (much better edge detection from what I've noticed on my s10e)

link for the 7,2 that works. i tried a bunch and they all just crash
