HTC One M9 volte - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello devs is there going to be a rom that will work on volte? I'm running an HTC One M9 AT&T with dev edition ruu right at this moment but I have flashed everything from venom to insert coin to lineage, aicp, more, beanstalk...... None will work on VoLTE I have to either run 3g all the time or turn 4g off while I'm not using data it's very annoying cause I forget. I have been looking for a solution Nada. Please help if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

The dev edition firmware doesn't support VoLTE. You need to use a branded firmware which has VoLTE enabled. It doesn't matter which rom you use as long as your firmware doesn't support this feature.

Well the one I have is working its a dev edition but when I flash a custom ROM I have to turn off 4g to receive phone calls

As said before, the problem (normally) isn't which rom you flash. It's which firmware you use. If you convert your phone e.g. to the AT&T branded version and flash e.g. ViperOne, ICE or Leedroid, afterwards, you can use VoLTE.
The dev edition (just like the unbranded European and the unbranded Asian version) doesn't have VoLTE enabled by default. The stock rom of said firmware versions switches to 3G automatically as soon as you receive a phone call. I'm not sure why that feature doesn't work on your phone as soon as you flash a custom rom. From my own experiences, it's working fine on e.g. ViperOne.

I can confirm flippy, the wwe is capable of volte as I get it on O2. It would seem here in the UK you need a branded firmware to get onto volte BUT if you debrand the phone to wwe it can volte on any network.
For example ee say that only ee branded phones can use their volte, which is true because all other branded phones can only use 'their' networks volte as it is preprogrammed and cannot be changed by normal means.
If you root, change cid and debrand with another firmware then you can use any volte as it depends on the sim card in the phone.
On HTC devices custom roms just piggy back of the firmware that is pre installed. The rom is just another form of user interface for the device so in theory the rom 'should' be volte compatible providing the firmware installed before it was capable and unbranded. Remember that only "branded" devices can use the network unless its unlocked wwe. So if you had an att firmware and you flash a custom rom onto it then it is no longer branded and shouldn't be allowed.. If its previously unbranded and you flash a rom then it should be allowed. Needs testing..
A long winded way of telling you bugger all but I hope it makes the carriers requirements a tad clearer..

Actually this is not true, or maybe your wwe it's actually not wwe.
I have s.rom custom rom, if I have 4.28.401.3 firmware volte isn't working(the function disappear from settings)
If I flash the Orange UK firmware(4.19.61.1) the VoLTE is working, and no I don't have Orange UK sim, I tested with Orange RO and Telekom RO.

Flashing a custom rom doesn't debrand the phone. The debranding process consists of
getting S-OFF
changing the CID to one that belongs to either SKU 617 (dev edition), 401 (unbranded European), 708 (unbranded Asian), 709 (another unbranded Asian) or 710 (unbranded Australian)
flashing either a RUU or one of Sneakyghost's firmware packs that belong to the CID you chose before
And you don't need to debrand for using other carriers with your phone. Only a sim unlock might be needed if the carrier branding contains a sim lock.
If you really use one of the unbranded firmwares then the M9 isn't capable of using VoLTE. That's why all the Jio customers from India convert their phones to either the AT&T or the T-Mobile US version.
Like @lucyr03 explained, it doesn't matter which carrier you use as long as the firmware of your phone is capable of VoLTE.

Mine has htc_001 from factory so it is wwe. It was never branded and I get volte on 02 or ee depending on which sim I use.
To unbrand your phone you must flash either wwe euro or wwe usa firmware. All other firmwares are branded.

I was referring to this part of your last post:

And there are more unbranded firmwares than the dev edition and the European unbranded one (which both aren't called wwe since that's an abbreviation for world wide English).

[Q] Convert VERIZON to WWE - is it possible?

Hello. A question here. i have VERIZON sim-unlocked phone. I live in ukraine. So can i get s-off and install on it WWE firmware (or get a WWE x.xx.401.xx RUU) - thus convert it to WWE version to use all available roms and get OTA updates for xx.xx.401.xx version? And still catch the signal/3G and so on? Or it will cause problems and i need to stick to Verizon firmware and roms?
No.
Like I told you in another thread, you can't do it. But I didn't explain why.
Verizon and Sprint are CDMA models, WWE firmware is for GSM models. They are different devices.
It won't work.
As xunholys explained, the hardware is different (Verizon vs. WWE) and therefore the firmware is different. If you try to fully convert, it either won't work, or it will brick the phone.
Your best bet is probably to use a WWE based custom ROM, and change the kernel to make it work on Verizon. At least that is what a Verizon owner (using his phone on a non-VZN network) stated. You might check the Verizon specific forum section for more detail.
But you will not be able to add full "WWE" band compatibility. The band support is built into firmware; and the firmware is not cross-compatible.

De-branding

Complete Noob here, so please be patient.
Can anyone point me towards a VERY simple guide to installing generic firmware on my HTC One M(9). I would prefer not to root, but could use RUU
Please use simple language and be patient. I'm new to HTC but have de-branded Samsungs with Odin and the equivalent on Sony
Thanks

So when you say de-brand, you're looking to remove carrier bloat? What is your carrier?
So, the short answer is...to debrand (which in HTC One M9 terms means to convert to developer edition), you're going to have to:
1) Have GSM carrier
2) Unlock your phone and install TWRP custom recovery
3) Root (this is only temporary, when you flash developer rom you'll no longer be rooted)
4) Use the sunshine app to s-off (security off) your phone - this will allow you to...
5) Change your model id (MID) and carrier id (CID)
6) flash developer edition rom
here is a good guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-one-m9/general/att-developer-edition-ruu-how-to-t3086948
Remember, you need to be GSM (no sprint, no verizon)
Thanks for that, I'm on a UK GSM carrier (VodaFone). Will the developer edition be compatible with UK networks?

Then it's better you use one of the x.xx.401.xx firmwares from the link in my signature. Those are the international WWE (World Wide English) versions unbranded European M9s get shipped with. Nevertheless the DE (Developer Edition) RUUs would be compatible with your phone, too.

Need help to find US firmware and rom to use LTE

Hello everyone,
I hope someone can help me.
I have an asian unlocked M8 and I live in Mexico so I cant use LTE. To solve this I got S-off, supercid, wwe mid and wwe firmware with Android Revolution Rom and still cant use LTE (Europe LTE bands do not include band 4 aws, so its the same crap). I tried to flash att and t-moble radio but mi phone did not recognise the radio file (Unknown baseband) so I get no signal. Then I flashed the wwe radio and got the same no recognition problem. The only way to get back signal is to flash again the firmware (it does not work to switch the att radio image in wwe firmware)
I need att or t-mobile bands to use mexican carriers Telcel or Movistar LTE (band 4 aws) and I guess I should use att or t-mobile firmware with the matching based rom.
- Can someone recomend me a rom version and firmware version to download??
- Is the unknown baseband problem because of the wwe mid? Should I also change the wwe to att or t-mobile mid and cid??
Thanks for your time and help!!

What if you current firmware version, is it Euro 4.16.401?
Where did you get the AT&T radio(s) and what is the file name?
Are you sure you are using the baseband for the right Android version (4.4.4 or 5.0, etc.)? If you are using the wrong radio for the Android version, that is the only reason I can see for any problems. As long as you are using the right version (Lollipop radio with a Lollipop ROM, etc), the radios should be interchangeable (with exception of Verizon, Sprint, M8x, dual SIM - don't mess with those).
But I would still advise to flash the whole firmware (not just the radio) to assure that everything plays well together.

I would suggest the Lollipop AT&T firmware (4.28.502) or Dev Edition (4.16.1540 - same band support as AT&T version) which you can get here (attached with the full ROM, unfortunately): http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/development/att-4-4-3-2-22-1540-3-debloated-sense-6-t2837365
After that, you should be able to use just about any Lollipop ROM for the M8.

Yes, my current firmware is 4.16.401.10
I got the radio images from here, but I certanly mixed basebands with android versions.
I will go with your suggestion of flash a whole firmware.

Can I flash this firmware with another rom, say INSERT COIN? I read in the ROM instructions to use 4.16.401.10
Can I use the ROM attached to the firmware you suggested with my local carrier?
Thank you again for your help.

As I said, the firmware can be used with most any Lollipop M8 custom ROM.
The instructions say you need 4.16.401 firmware, but that's just a "lazy" requirement. Any Sense LP firmware should work with the current InsertCoin. To be fair, many of the "international" devs are Euro based, so they have little or no experience with other region's firmwares; and don't want to be held responsible for issues that arise for using them.
You should use or select the firmware based on region and carrier band support (in addition to Android version); not by ROM.

You can. I'm personally not crazy about AT&T specific "features" (as the ROM is meant to include). Even having AT&T as a carrier, I tend toward the non-ATT based ROMs.
You may need to manually enter your carrier's APN info to get data connection.
Perfect.
I am currently in my work but at night I will follow your suggestions and come back tomorrow -or as soon as posible- to inform if this worked and may be useful to someone else.
Best regards!!

Hi,
I flashed succesfully the att latest firmware, but it is the same, no LTE signal.
I recently found this posts to UNLOCK QUALCOMM BANDS and I tried to follow the steps to do so, but they are very unclear and I got stuck in step 3.
I wanted to come back to this post to share a solution, but i cant find it. If you can complete the guide, please share your results.
Best regards.

Check your APN, sometimes carriers use a different one to support LTE.
Otherwise, if you tried only one firmware (such as AT&T) then try another: T-Mob or Dev Ed all supposedly support AWS.

T-Mobile HTC One M8 Radio Update

Hi!
I just S-offed my T-mobile M8 today. Just have a question regarding LTE bands. I'm from the Philippines. I've noticed that my M8 variant is not compatible with the LTE bands supported by the carriers here in my country. I've done my research and saw that the T-Mobile M8 variant uses LTE bands 4 (1700/2100) and 17 (700). My carrier here operates at LTE Band 1 (2100) which is why I can only reach HSPA signal here. So is it possible for me to flash an asian firmware w/ radio update on my device so that I can access LTE connectivity here? If not, is there any other way to do so?
Thank you.

Yes.
Be sure to pick a firmware that supports not just your carrier's LTE band(s) but HSPA also, for full compatibility.
Also be sure to stick to the proper software version. You're most likely on Lollipop software, so only flash a Lollipop version firmware.
Depending on whether the firmware has been hacked, you may need to change your CID and MID to match the firmware.

I see. Thank you. Would you happen to know a thread or repository where I can download the latest Asian firmware? I've searched the forums but found outdated ones.
I've already superCID my M8 and just flashed the GPE firmware that came with the stock Marshmallow ROM. So does this mean, if I want to flash official firmware, I will need to change both my CID and MID to match that of the firmware?

If you give a CID or CIDs for the Asian version (or bettter yet, the correct software number), I may be able to find the firmware.

If its official, YES it will check CID and MID.
Some firmwares may be hacked to remove these checks, or include a longer list of "acceptable" MIDs and CIDs. I believe the GPE firmware your refer to is hacked in one of those ways.
But official firmwares will always check CID and MID.

Questions Regarding 32.4.A.1.54

Regarding 32.4.A.1.54
1 is there a UK customized version available ?
2 if i use one for a certain network would it lock my phone to that network as its currently sim free , or would it just limit me to that network in till i change the ROM ?
3 would a customized version for a different country be better ?

use the MENA Arabic version. I found it much better in terms of bloatwareZ
and its in English btw, its just designed for MiddleEast
however i am not sure what bands it won't support for Europe.
however there is also CENTRAL EUROPE version which i havent tried yet
You can choose to exclude parts before the flash.
I exclude all .ta files
Flashing a rom shouldn't lock your phone. But flashing a rom from a different region or CDA, xould cause wifi / radio conflicts.

if your bootloader is still LOCKED then kindly first downgrade to Android6.01 and EXTRACT TA.IMG using DIRTYCOW SCRIPT available on XDA
no yasu my boot loader is not locked im refering to the networks on xperifirm via the downloads... please read what im asking based on . E.g my phone is unlocked NETWORK WISE... the rom is normally use is Generic UK but its not on the latest update... but there is a Vodafone ( network provider ) in the Uk which has this rom up to date... e.g no different network bands.. but i'm assuming vodafone bloatware... also im asking based on it being a vodafone rom would it limit other network sims from working.
cheers

Good day dear.
thank you for explaining again. yes I got confused with the term UNLOCKED with bootloader only.
1. since your device is not SIMLOCKED you can flash any other region as long as you stay with-in your variant. the VODAFONE may have presintalled bloatware in this case try flashing central europe? (if its latest).
2. apart from anything else, consider downgrading to android6 or 5.1.1 for once, in order to EXTRACT TA.IMG
