Hello just wondering if i am the only one
If i open netflix for the "ok google open netflix" command and play a video after 15 to 30 seconds it will freeze the phone and restart it.
Then i open the app with out the assistant and it works well.
Anyone else experiencing this issues?
Netflix does cause the phone to reboot for me as well. I don't even have to use the assistant to open it. It makes the phone reboot when opened normally as well.
I had a problem with Netflix losing the picture and having to reopen the app to fix it.

Use game booster to set up cpu to top and match fps with screen refresh
Grab a bug report zip and post the link here for the devs to take a look
For the people who are experiencing the problem with the device reboot while using Netflix, please try completely removing the Netflix app from game booster (by unticking it inside of the game booster configuration).
Please let me know whether that helps.
Alex
So switch it to "Custom" mode then make sure it's not selected?

Netflix crash bug report
Here is a bug report right after the crash and the phone finished rebooting.

Just unticking it in the game list should be enough.
The game list doesn't show unless I hit custom. The crashes happen even when I'm in power save mode:
Also, while I'm reporting bugs. I get excellent battery life when I'm in airplane mode with WiFi enabled and in power save mode, about 9.5 hours of SOT.
When I disable airplane mode though, my battery life is very poor. I'm only getting around 4.5 hours of SOT. Even when the screen is off, I have had battery drain around 30% over night. I do live in an area with poor reception, I'm not sure if it has anything to do with that. But I have never had such bad standby battery drain before.

Really hope they fix some of the netflix issues as i still get some graphical issue with the application
Looking at latest news from Razer their boasting about their new Surround Sound and HDR "BOTH Netflix HDR and 5.1 surround sound content" on the razer website.

I just had Netflix cause a phone reboot while using the "Custom Mode" with Netflix omitted in the game booster.

@TheCrazyLex wonder if this is getting bugged because the nexflix app has the HDR and Dolby 5.1 that's to come half baked and causing it to reboot?
Ive had it for a while just randomly happens when launching the app from fresh, i have made sure nothing else is running in the background but its a pain when it reboots the system. Hope they fix it with this new update their talking about on with the netflix partnership.
If you're experiencing the issue, feel free to post the bug report here so @TheCrazyLex can take a look.

I have the same issue. After a min of playing a Netflix video, the phone freezes and dies. Most of the time it doesn't reboot automatically.
Netflix cannot be found in the list inside game booster. Anyone found a fix for this?
This is happening more often now and sometime im discussing with Razer but so far unable to find the cause of the problem as its not like the phone is running low on memory, Im sure Razer & Netflix are aware of the issue but all ive been told is wait for the next system update. They didnt try to blame each other or bother to get me to factory wipe the device or reinstall the app. Which unless they have seen my support call history in the past and didnt make me go through the basic troubleshooting step as part of their customer service or aware of the problem already im not too sure,
They only asked if it happens with other Apps which i explained YouTube and Amazon Prime work perfetly every time but the Netflix app is about 50/50

Not sure why but sometimes when i search videos on the youtube app and click to play them it just says I'm unable to play them. I'll pull the battery out and search the same video and then it will play. Is there any way to fix this issue??

You can try clearing data in the app but my guess it is more stream related. Next time try toggling airplane mode on and off and see if that works. Then it is a 3G issue which you kick start when you pull the battery.
Do you BONSAI?
I ran into this same thing yesterday, and I cleared the data and everything was back to normal. Kenny was right on point, hope it works for you too.
Pulling the battery is a power cycle and seems to be the only fix. I have also noticed that after an unknown amount of time all video playback and even video recording stops working (android system, flash still works) til I power cycle. I'm thinking it has something to do with the in app between video ads. Anyway, I'm back to pulling my battery at least twice a day.
Some youtube videos are unplayable on mobile devices, like android and ios devices. This isn't anything we can control, the makers of the videos (usually music videos) decide whether or not the video can be played on mobile devices. You can try opening the video in the browser and playing it directly on the page, but chances are it'll be choppy as he'll

You pull your battery twice a day? I suggest a few things:
1. Get insurance on your phone
2. Put phone in driveway
3. Run that thing over AT LEAST 12 times
4. Get a new phone
If you're serious, you need to get a new phone because something is certainly wrong. I'm currently on about 120 hours of uptime, as in, time since the last reboot.

The power cycle is to force YouTube app to work. I watch a lot of video. The phone runs perfect otherwise.
Did you try clearing the data in the app?
Yes. Also force closed and cleared from app manager.
I had the issue where it force closed as soon as I opened it and clearing data didn't work. There was actually another entry on my phone that was causing issues. I think it was in data\data. I deleted all youtube entries (searched with root explorer) then cleared Dalvik and downloaded and installed youtube from market. Worked fine after that.
Same here, same thing happens to my visual voicemail, neither will work until I power cycle. Then they will both work fine for a while, then randomly stop again.

There are three different errors, "not available in your country", "not available on mobile devices", and "there was a problem while playing, Touch to retry" that last one is the one that makes the youtube app unusable.
Hey, when the Youtube app update that enabled 1440p quality playback came out i had the same problem, when you select a resolution it doesnt apply it, its like the app is always in auto quality mode. I read that you should uninstall updates and then install the newest version and that solved the issue for some time but now i have the same issue again. Does anyone know how to solve this?
Same issue here. I hate that I can't use 1440p. I've tried to uninstall updates but that didn't work. Anyone out there who knows how to fix this???

The app itself updated today but the issue is still there.
Hey guys, I found a solution for my tablet at least. The problem for me was Viper4android, I had changed the driver from power saving to high quality, reverting to the power saving driver seems to have solved the issue for me.
try to clear the apps data in setting application youtube and see if it stick.
Clearing those didnĀ“t help.
Last time's solution (Clear Data and cache, Uninstall Updates, turn off and then turn on and Install updates from Play Store) is not working this time, very frustrating.
My solution didn't seem to stick and now I have the same issue again.
Mine suddenly began working, at third attempt. I cleared cache and data, Uninstalled updates, force stop, then I went to the play store and download the new updates, when I tried the first video it didn't seem to have worked, but I exit YouTube and the next time I tried it worked.
Only thing I think I did different is that I didn't disable the app before download the updates.

I found that it didn't stick when I selected it but after a few seconds of the video playing it changed to the new setting.
Here's a quick fix: after you tap the 1440 display button drag the time bar back to the beginning of the video and it will begin playing in the higher resolution.

Hey guys, over the past 5 days of using this phone I have noticed a few odd things. One that is really annoying is some apps just close and open again. Not an Android force close, there is no notification, the app just stops and instantly restarts. Apps this happens the most with is The Chive and Gmail. I've used a lot of other apps but these two are the worst. And Gmail is an important app, I use it a lot.
Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas what could be causing this? Along with the poor battery, this is making a great piece of hardware unusable. Any info on this would be appreciated.
Cheer's!!!
I haven't noticed your issues, but I have had very inconsistent results with video streaming apps from TV and cable networks and my cable provider (xfinity from comcast in the US) that range from force closing to just not being to load videos.

Has never happened to me in Gmail. I use it a lot with 3 different accounts. But force closes are closely related to memory leaks that are very abundant in 5.0. But since others dont seem to be experiencing this issue, I'd recommend a flash of the latest firmware and a complete wipe (if possible). Do you have any memory manager apps? If so that could be an issue too.

Yeah I've had odd reactions with videos too including lags which shouldn't happen - given the hardware specs.

Having the same issue. looks like it happens like once every 30 minutes to me, no matter the app. going to wipe data and do a firmware update, let's see how it goes.
I have this issue (crashing apps randomly /w no error) in particular music apps like DI.FM, Google Music, and Audible while driving. The phone is not (directly) in use by me as I use a 3.5mm or Bluetooth an initially pressing the pay button before starting my trip. This is frustrating because it randomly crashes (no notification) while I am busy driving and I have to pull to the side of the road and start it again (safety). Sometimes the crashing will not happen for hours at a time (and I enjoy the audio), other times it happens every few minutes (and I get fed up and give up on the phone wanting to put it under the tire).
I was trying to find a good way to log the error but I am too inexperienced and just go frustrated after a while as I could not find a way to log it while it was in use (playing audio) during my transit.
My Netflix sucks big time on my rooted fire TV. Stutters quite a bit. No combination of the video frame rate helps in the settings. What more can I do? I shouldn't have to wipe cache and restart every hour to get smooth playback. Thanks

Netflix has been terrible on aftv. Between the loading to 99%, and "unable to play this title right now" not to mention that atv2 has a much better resolution (for me anyway).
I was experiencing a stutter and I think I switched to WiFi to fix it. Not 100% on that but its working better now.

How'd you fix the two issues you mentioned? Netflix just started doing the same, for no apparent reason about a week ago on my FTV. I found one that here that was said to have the fix, but I've performed each of the steps listed there with no luck. Right now, I'm on 51.1.6.0... I tried the latest, but am affected by the HDCP issue, so had to roll back.

Not sure I did fix it. It may have got better on its own. You could try uninstalling Netflix, clear data 3 times in Amazon video, unplug for 10 seconds. Then it may be beneficial to boot recovery and wipe dalvik and cache partitions. Finally reinstall Netflix.
Mine occasionally doesn't load all the way but restarting the video fixes it.

Sorry. Overall Netflix on Amazon has been terrible for a lot of users while others seem to have no problems at all. They're not likely to provide a fix but it doesn't hurt to contact Amazon. At the very least you'll join a growing list of dissatisfied customers. Problem is Amazon points the finger a Netflix and vice versa. But like I've said before, Netflix has always been fine on my other devices going back almost a decade.

Yeah, the part I don't get is that it just stopped working for no apparent reason. It'd been working fine for months, then all of a sudden I start getting the "can't play video at this time" error (something to that effect). Anyway, thanks for the suggestions and feedback.

If it's any consolation... on 51.1.x.x versions of Fire TV, I never had issues where it wouldn't play video, but I did have studdering and slow/fast issues. On the 51.5.3.0 Fire OS 5 preview, all that has gone away and aside from an issue with 5.1 sound which is solved by putting it on stereo, netflix is working great.

I agree. Netflix performance actually gotten worse on the Fire TV since the latest official stable update. For months I been using it and it was fine but now once again I have issues where the video would freeze up for about 5 to 10 seconds then speed up right away everyone is super fast while the audio continues. Very annoying as I thought they finally fixed it but it came back again. Now I also been getting the "unable to play title" error again too.
I actually started to use my Apple TV 3rd Generation which is connected to Wifi 5ghz channel 36. Loads programs quickly, no stuttering, no unable to, no credit shrinking.
I've learned that having another video app open while trying to access Netflix is what causes the problem. The reason rebooting fixes it is because you essentially flush the FireTV's memory when you do the reboot. If you exit out of other apps fully, you shouldn't have anymore problems. I miss being able to click the Home button when switching between video apps but ever since I started doing a proper shutdown for video apps before switching to the next one, I no longer need to reboot to get the different video apps work.

That message occurs when you have another background application tying up the video process.
Try rebooting. And never use the home button to exit Kodi or any other video application. Quit it properly. And watch out for SPMC, the way it's been implemented to minimize to the home screen with the back button is really unhelpful on the AFTV.
Same goes for using Kodi as a launcher. Don't expect it to be reliable.

Hadn't considered that possibility; however, I don't use an alternate launcher and I always shutdown Kodi properly. Maybe there's something else tying up the video process? I've gone through the 'clear data' process on Amazon Video multiple times, but that didn't fix Netflix. I'll try to go straight into Netflix after a fresh reboot and see what I get.

I definitely had that happen last week when I was watching Youtube! This was after a factory reset too so I wasn't sure what was happening. Same exact thing, lines flashed across the screen just like yours. I have not seen it happen since or perhaps I haven't been watching enough videos on the phone since.
Have you contacted support, and what did they say? I'm kind of scared to contact them with all the outsourcing now and other stories I've been seeing about them not being as helpful as they used to be.

I'm not sure but am wondering the same thing. I was not able to get a hold of Google support but will try after the new year. If the OP can see it happening randomly I bet it is happening randomly for us too but we haven't caught it again. It looks like those old CRT TV's. I unfortunately was not able to get screen recorder open in time to capture when it was happening.

I just had this happen too for the first time, happened to quickly to get any recording of it. Also on YouTube as I was adding a video to my watch later. Are you using Vanced by any chance? Maybe it's just the software glitch with that?! Hope there's no hardware fault going on here...

Interesting.....let's hope a fix is on it's way at some point...
Have you guys noticed a graphical glitch in Google photos? When in landscape and the video is paused and you scroll up from the bottom of the screen for your settings, a glitch appears!
It was first mentioned in Reddit.
I've had the same thing, but it appears at the bottom of the screen (it's happened a few times, maybe 5 or 6) - and for mine it was about an inch high. It was really odd - never seen a glitch like that before. usually you can tell if it's the display or software but this was very similar to op's - and it stayed for like 10 seconds. using Brave Browser, not watching a video (pixel 6 pro on december build)
YES YES YES! Thank you for the post, OP!
This wasn't an issue till about five days ago and it only occurs in the YouTube application! It's difficult to reproduce, but usually having a video running, opening the comments section then successively minimizing and maximizing the video (in Portrait mode) can trigger this error.
I suspect it has something to do with a change in refresh rate, since this particular change causes just that.
It's not annoying to the point I have considered turning the phone back, but it's mildly concerning especially since the first time it occurs, you're unsure whether it's a hardware or software issue.
Same here with YouTube Vanced in the exact same Spot, never seen in another app
Try newpipe instead. Hint: no ads
