I hate Screen Protectors! Any other ideas???

I cannot stand the installation procedure needed for the screen protectors. Every single time: I use the "provided micro fiber" cloth to remove dirt and lint and the apply. EVERY TIME I am left with tiny lint,, micro specs of air dust etc. between the film and the screen, and a small little bubble here and there. It drives me crazy. Call me obsessive compulsive but it take me about 3 screen protectors until I finally get it right. Anyone aware of any screen protection technology that will help me avoid this outcome?

I don't, but I did read that if you apply it in the bathroom after running hot water and steaming it up real good that it will help that problem a lot. I plan to try that when I get my first screen protector this week.

Hard type screen protectors will solve your bubble issues. Martin Fields screen protectors is pretty much impossible to have bubbles stuck inside it.
However it won't solve your dust problem. If anything, it's much easier to see dirt and other imperfections stuck between the screen and a Martin Field protector.

Or you could try one of the crystal screen protectors from boxwave. I had your problem too with my first 2 screen protectors, and it seemed that I couldn't just get them on there without a problem. With this one from boxwave, I just wiped it off with the provided micro-fiber cloth and used the bubble-elimination card to remove any possible bubbles under the screen!

Get the ones from ATT. I have tried Bodyguardz, Zagg, Stealth Guards, and some generic BS from eBay. All of those were the type you apply with the solution (and have that dreaded orange peel look) and you have to wait for it to "cure" and it is extremely easy to get bubbles stuck in them.
The ones from ATT on the other hand, are completely smooth and truly invisible. They are a stiffer material and you do not need application solution. I am very happy with them and for 9.99 you get 3 of them. If you mess one up by getting some lint on it or whatever, you can just wash it with soapy water and spray it down with some water+baby soap and re apply it that way. Very easy to get the air bubbles out that are caused by using the solution. Again, they can be installed with no solution at all and if done carefully, it should look like nothing was ever installed on the phone

I got them from a local store for 7$ since I got a discount. Those above ^^ from BoxWave seem extremely over priced. For 10$ you can't go wrong with the ones from ATT.

I am using clarivue not even a single dust, lint, inside. It's the quick and easy 3 layer type screen protectors.
Here's a tip ... go to the bathroom and turn on hot water on sink or whatever to create humidity that would trap the dust or w/e in the air ... and it makes this easier to apply.

I haven't had a screen protector on my Vibrant in almost 2 months now & even with constantly putting it in my pocket with my keys, dropping it once onto my driveway & even fumbling it into bouncing off a brick wall one time I have yet to scratch my screen. The rest of the phone is dented & scratched but the screen is still beautiful.

I had my iPod Touch for years, in and out of pockets with keys and pocket-knives and cell phones, dropped countless times, two little kids messing with it all the time, accidentally sliding it face-down across surfaces, and so on. Never used a screen protector, never got a single blemish or scratch. And that was basically plain old arsenic-free glass. The Captivate is made with Corning's high-tech Gorilla Glass.
Sure, either could still scratch or break. But it's like getting a car with an expensive paintjob, and then covering the whole thing in Scotch tape so it won't get scratched. You end up with something that looks god-awful 100% of the time, because you're afraid something might happen to it that would affect how it looks. Pretty much any time someone hands me their smartphone or DS, it is a scratched, smudgy, dusty mess because of some $40 screen cover they have on there. I always try to point out that it seems odd to make your screen look terrible on purpose just because you're afraid of you might make it look terrible on accident. I used one good one once, that you couldn't even tell was there, but the first time I took it on a flight it turned into smears of rainbows.

use a piece of clear packing tape to remove the dust. running the shower helps bring dust down but there will be some lint from the cloth. dont lean over it, a lot of "dust" is dry dead skin or dandruff so if you have dry skin or dry scalp dust will fall on it. also stop being so anal.

I don't need no stinkin' screen protector. I mean unless I know my phone is going to be dragged across macadam but then a screen protector won't help, will it.

Gorilla Glass... Screen Protector unnecessary... I have always used a screen protector too on previous phones but the screen on this phone is rugged.

So, I got this Boxwave ClearTouch Crystal screen protector, and you literally cannot tell it is on there. It feels just like the glass (con for me actually, I prefer a paper kind of feel) and doesn't scratch easily at all. Plus, I installed it in a dusty room and there was no lint or anything else under the screen. It even comes with a thick card to remove bubbles once it has been applied. So, if you're even slighty, .000001% scared of getting lint trapped underneath the screen, go with Boxwave. I vouch for its clarity and ease of installation. Also, my screen is just as sensitive as before, as I've tried BARELY touching the screen and it still would pick up a touch.
And, in the rare event that you did get dust glued to the screen, it is completely washable and rewashable, so it is a little expensive, but well, well worth it.
Oh, and there is no adhesive whatsoever, not even water is needed. Just peel and go.

totally terrible advice. not that i care but i have about 20 microscratches and a couple decent sized ones....

it takes time to learn how to put screen protectors on... I have probably put 500 or so on all different types of phones you just wipe it clean tilt it so that you can make sure there are no dust particles... then you pull the backing off of the protector a few inches apply to the designated area and take a credit card and follow the rest of the protector down... works everytime

I second this . there is no such thing as 'unscratchable glass' some very expensive sunglasses use to have that warranty , guess what , they dont anymore ...
although I have to say the argument about HAVING YOUR PHONE LOOK UGLY JUST IN CASE SOME ACCIDENT CAN HAPPEN TO MAKE UGLY made me laugh , I d never have a phone without one my advice :
Just buy a few cheap ones on eBay and master the trick when your bored , after 3 times it should be installed perfectly , I also noticed if you have light scratches already on it , the screen protector hides them so thats a bonus

Ive tried SO many screen protectors. The only one I have been happy with so far (and VERY happy at that) is Realook. They are SUPER clear, thin, and very hard. You do not lose the glassy feel or the crisp vivid look on the screen. Ive put them on a few phones now, a few Vibrants and a Mytouch Slide 3g (my gf didnt even know i had put it on there till i told her). Its $10 for 2 protectors and I HIGHLY recommend them.

I have a tiny little chip right in the middle of my screen on my Captivate about a cm underneath the AT&T logo. It has taken less abuse than yours, and it even has a screen protector on it. It looks like the kind of chip you would get if a piece of gravel hit your windshield a little too hard.
Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the info on the Boxwave screen protector, I've been wandering if it's as good as it looks.

In the malls near me now, there are little carts (you know those areas of the mall, where the cart/carny people are) that have people with small steady hands...
Invisible Shield it is called. They give you a lifetime warranty on the cover. They put it on. They will even cover your entire phone if you want (the back of the Captivate I am thinking of getting covered to avoid scratches on the metal back), and if you get a replacement phone for some reason, you only pay a portion of the price (material only) and they put it on again.
They use some sort of silicon liquid (snake oil... was probably just water) to aid in putting it on, and mine is perfect. Had a couple bubbles with the liquid still in it, but true to their word, it evaporated (through the protector) and it was perfect the next morning.
I jumped at this opportunity after totally FAILING at putting on a protector on my Tilt 2 (two packs of 3). On that phone, I took an exacto knife to cut off the excess I was so bad at it. I gladly paid $20 to have someone else do it and give me a warranty on it.

Screen protector / screen film recommendations?

I was wondering if there are any go to screen proctectors? Any to avoid, like do any cause issues with the touch screen?

I'd avoid the hard plastic static-type. They're difficult to put on without dust. I've been using the ones from clearprotector (.com). 50% off and free ship with the code iwantultra (have it memorized cause I've gotten several). The corners and edges are kind of a ***** to get on, but they work well and come with a lifetime warranty (or so they say...). This is a wet-application so don't use them unless you're willing to take the time to watch the youtube videos to learn how to install, and then takes about 20 minutes to install.

I get mine from www.bestskinsever.com. I've had no problems with them. The screen protector is easy to apply and very durable.

I have Ghost Armor on mine and like it, it is a bit smoother than Zagg or Bestskinsever.
Be warned if you want the full body protection, adding this to the back of my tab caused me to have the newton ring problem. I never had the problem with just the screen protector on, I should I have just stuck with the screen and not the entire thing but I really wanted the matte back on my tab.

Thanks fellas. I have and used to do/use the wet application ones for a while. Then I got tired of them and just went with the cling ones. I think I'll get the wet app and it should last a longgg time. Especially since Im not going to be using the tab every day.

I went with Clarivue on the recommendation of a friend.
It's decent enough, no tackiness or anything like that but it's not the best fitting, could've been a couple of mm wider and taller.
Other than that, whilst I've had a long-standing dislike for them, recently I've found Zagg's InvisibleShield protectors to be pretty decent - they seem to be very well fitted and the tacky feel to them that I remember doesn't seem as noticeable.
Kinda wish I'd gone with them for my Tab

Which would you guys say offers the smoothest screen experiences of all? I don't care about longevity as I only use my tab about once every 2 weeks

I was never a fan of the "wet" applications, to me it just seemed like too much work and I was never comfortable spraying any type of liquid all over my devices, regardless of how harmless they might be.
But anyway, this is a clear, non-matte protector that is the "static cling" kind of application. Once it goes on properly, you cannot see that is even there. The touch feeling is the same as if you had no protector on. I really feel that those matte ones, while they do reduce sun-glare, a lot of them provide a "tacky" feeling that maybe is fine for a smaller screen such as a phone, but can become very annoying for a larger screen if you do a lot of swiping across the larger surface area of a tablet. But that is a personal thing....I usually don't use my tablet outside in the bright sun anyway, so the matte types are useless for me.
I've had it on since the end of July and it's held up very well. You do have to wipe the smudges off the screen occasionally, but you'd have to do that anyway even with no protector. I'm extremely satisfied with these.

So I've got an Invisible Shield en route for my Tab, will post back when it arrives.

I just bought the glare-reduction screen protector from BodyGuardz. Has anyone else had any experience with them? I wanted something that would offer a decent amount of protection for the screen (fingerprint and physical pressure), but also not reduce the touch sensitivity at all. (I type with the tip of my nose since I can't use my fingers, and trying to press too hard hurts )

Not sure where you can get it, but here in Singapore there's a brand called DataFlex and their screen protectors seem really good.

I bought SGP steinheil shield ultra optics. I liked it.

So this newton ring issue is a major problem. What if I just protect the back and leave the screen open? I have the new logitech keyboard case on the way and the front is protected in the case, but the back is exposed. I planned on protecting the back only. But I wont do anything if it'll case the newton rings.

Yeah. Same here. Just want a more "grippy" back. How does one produce Newton Rings from the back of the device. Methunked it was a display issue resulting from the interaction of the protector and display glass...kinda by definition...

Hopefully we'll find out soon. I just want to protect the back.

I blame the install of the rear skin because I had the screen skin installed first and then three weeks later I had the rear done. He turned the tab face down and installed the skin. When he turned it over, bam, Netwon Rings...
I never had them before the front screen protector, during the front screen protector install or after the front protector was on the Tab.
Will it happen to you? I have no idea but from what I have read about the problem it is caused because of the Tab moving/flexing which can be caused by excessive heat and certain handling of the Tab.

I bought an anti-glare protector from Cellularbuy on eBay and managed to get it on in one go with no dust at all. The protector fits perfectly and the camera and light sensor holes line up spot on. The anti-glare makes the screen look a little grainy, but I hear that even the Steinhell ones that are many times more expensive have the same problem.
This has been gone over millions of times on each forum here, but here's how I did it:
-Wipe the screen down with a soft cloth and glasses cleaner or isopropyl to get any grease off
-Run the shower in a small bathroom on hot until the room is unbearably steamy
-Put on a hat to keep your hair and head funk from falling on the screen
-Line the protector up on the screen before removing the film and tape it on one side with a few pieces of Scotch tape
-Also make a "handle" out of tape to put on the top of the protector opposite the taped-down end. This will help with alignment
-Go into the bathroom and clean the screen with a good microfiber cloth. Also clean the front and back protective sheets on the film so there's no dust to come off when you start peeling them. The steam should be enough to wet it. Take one final look
-Peel the protector back and lay it down pulling the taped edge taut to keep it lined up
-Smooth any bubbles out with a credit card BEFORE peeling the top sheet off
IF you do have any dust, use a piece of tape on a corner to lift up the protector and another piece of tape to pick up the dust. If the room is steamy enough and you did a good job of wiping the screen this shouldn't happen.

bubble issues with spigen glas.tr nano

i just installed my glas.tr nano yesterday. i have no major bubble issues, but i do seem to be having one minor issue along the top left edge of the screen. i have several very small bubbles all clustered together. it almost looks like there's a lack of adhesive in that particular area. i won't be able to get any photos until later this evening as i'm at work right now, but i'll be sure to toss up some shots as soon as i'm able.
i've squeegee'd the living crap out of the spot to no avail. now perhaps i just need to give it another day or two to settle, but something tells me this cluster of bubbles isn't going to clear up on it's own.
i'm curious as to whether or not anyone else has been experiencing issues with the glas.tr nano?

i've placed an order for the, Spigen GLAS.tR NANO SLIM Glass Screen Protector yesterday.
is it the updated version of the glass that u are using?
yeah, that would be great if you could post some pictures of your display.

If you look closely at the N5's glass under reflection, you can tell that the glass is not flat. There are minor curves on the glass.
The glass protectors are designed with adhering to a piece of flat glass in mind; the minor bumps on the glass may cause the protector to not adhere properly.
You may try to use a clamp to hold the protector in place for a while for the adhesive to settle.

Not sure I agree with this. My glass.t is on with ZERO bubbles. You have to be extremely careful when putting them on however, it's very difficult not to get dust trapped underneath during application.

How un-flat the glass is is different on every phone; it's like those hand-made glassware. Your phone's glass probably is relatively flat so the protector adheres very well.

I have this same issue with clusters of bubbles in the black areas but its with the Nillkin Tempered glass protector (They are all relatively the same thing). Is yours on centered and all or is it a little off?

@Mythos123 - i'm not aware of there being an "updated" version of the tr nano. i know there were signifcant bubble issues with the t and tr slim, but it's my understanding that the issue was corrected before spigen pushed out the nano line.
@timothyung and @se1000 - i suppose uneven glass could be the culprit, but i'm moreso inclined to believe it's an issue with the protector itself. of course, a picture is worth a thousand words, and i'll get a few pics posted as soon as i'm able, but this doesn't look like the protector is just not hitting the glass due to unevenness. it looks like the edge doesn't have enough adhesive to keep the protector stuck down.

the OCD in me just wouldn't let the bubbles go so i tried to remove and re-apply the protector. totally should've snapped photos first, doh!
anyway, the re-application was a double-edged sword. i fixed bubbles along one edge, but then introduced new bubbles along a different edge. i think maybe i'm just getting dirt on the edges with my fat fingers since this nano is so damn slim, hah! i may order another after a few months, but i think i'm going to stick with the one i've got for now. it feels great, and the screen is beautiful.

damn, looks like it's hard putting this thing on without getting any kind of issues...
what is the best way, any pro tips?

Run the shower for 20-30 minutes to get alot of steam built up, use a couple of pieces of tape on one side so you can do the hinge method of application and get your fingertips sufficiently wet so that you don't leave any fingerprints on the adhesive side of the screen protector should you accidentally touch it. The steam in the air in the bathroom will eliminate most dust from getting in and as long as you really make sure the screen is OCD clean with no dust particles, you should come out with a beautiful perfectly centered application.

i'm gonna get another glas.tr nano and follow these instructions to the letter. i know i just messed mine up as a result of user error. :/

Just installed my glas.tr nano, and other than one small piece of dust I carelessly allowed to get trapped between it and the screen, it is literally perfect. I ran the shower, and used the hinge technique, but I don't think I ran the shower long enough.
Someone said in one of these threads 'feels better than the naked screen', and I agree. The naked nexus 5 screen feels a bit sharp at the edge, the tr nano has a similar nice felling to the naked nexus 4 screen, which I always kept naked because any screen protector ruined that nice feel.

S6 edge scratches so easily

Anyone else finding that their s6 scratches easily? This is the second s6 phone I had and just being in my pocket with nothing else scratches the screen pretty bad. I have multiple scratches just from my drivers license rubbing against the screen using those wallet cases.

Not easy at all. I dropped my edge in a jacket pocket...after 30 min I realized something rattles there...the phone was around 30 min vs my K-Box lmao
Guess what...non even micro sh!t on it.

Exactly the opposite. Are you just trolling for comments? What the Hell is your drivers license made of ? STEEL? You may want to go get a new license made because having a steel license is about as normal as this phone being easily scratched.

No need to be rude about it. I'm not trolling and I'm being dead serious that two of my phones was scratched from both being in my jean front pocket with nothing else and from using this case with a PLASTIC drivers license. I just wanted to see if this was a common thing with other owners.

It must have been something else that scratched it because otherwise the phone is not genuine. Part of the reason I never use screen protectors is because corning glass has a high resistance to scratching. Notice how everyone else finds it hard to believe. Its because this glass is hard to scratch. I wasnt trying to be rude , I was just astonished that you were having this issue when I have seen drop test of this phone flat on its face that cause little to no scratching at all. I hope you find a resolution to your problem and would be curious to know if some of the glass was not treated properly and is more prone to scratching . I guess there is always a chance the corning released a defective batch of glass that was shipped to your area

I use mine without screen protector, do not remember seeing any scratches on day1(other than ones that were from manufacturing defect as we suspect from the thread in other forum).
Now, after almost a month, I have 3 very fine scratches. I use one of my pockets just for phone and never dropped it so I am sure sand/fine dust particles caused those new fine scratches. Its not a huge deal as you can't feel them with fingernails but see them in sunlight or yellow light very easily.

No scratches on mine and I've had it since April 10th. I carry it my purse and jacket pocket with no screen protector. I'm honestly not understanding how people are commenting on having scratched up phones. Did you purchase your phone directly through T-Mobile pre-official release date?

I honestly wonder the same thing, but a lot people say their screen just got scratched out of the blue. They don't tell you that they keep the phone in the same pocket with their keys and stuff. I keep my phone in my pockets also but it's always the only thing in that pocket. I won't even put change or anything in the same pocket. Had mine since day 1 and no scratches here either.

I've had the S4, S5 and now the S6e. I carried all in the same conditions: front-right pocket, no case, no screen protection, nothing else in the pocket. Ever. Neither my S4 and S5 never had a single scratch. Ever.
But after one day, my S6e had developed tiny "scratches" all across the entire front surface. The catch: these are only visible in bright sunlight at specific harsh angles. Perhaps those here stating, "I have no scratches, you're doing it wrong!" have not been fully evaluating theirs under bright sunlight like this?
But, as others have stated, this is somewhat disappointing.
In fact, it seems, when pressing on the front of the screen with my fingers, it seems rather flexible. It seems almost like the new GorillaGlass4 is more like GorillaPlastic4.
So, I'm hoping it's just this oleophobic coating?

Usually this is from silica being sandwiched between the screen and another object followed by the application of pressure. GG4 has roughly twice the resistance to abrasion compared to the GG3 in objective testing exhibiting scratch depths slightly less than half the depth of GG3 when tested with the same object and applied pressure.
I know this is not what someone who is looking at a scratched screen wants to hear but there is no technology that can prevent all scratches at the time. GG4 is better than its predecessors but by no means perfect.

At least this phone isn't as easy to scratch as the Note 4. I'm pretty sure a gust of wind could scratch the cheap metal on that thing.

I ordered both of my phones pre ordered through Tmobile customer service. I've had every iteration of Galaxy S phone and never used a screen protector on any of them. Never once had any issues until now. The scratches on my phone aren't micro scratches either. The one that looks like it was from my drivers license is pretty deep and can be felt rubbing the screen with my fingernails. I'm now wondering if dust or other fine particles rubbed up against the screen that caused it. I'm just very disappointed and hope this isn't a widespread issue.

i have not used a screen protector for my last 4 phones and i have never scratched one. the cynic in me thinks these omg my screen got scratched from being in my pocket posts are from people selling screen protectors.

Yeah, no, I hate screen protectors, in general. Yet my scratches are from my pocket. -_-

Just got my 64GB S6 Edge Gold. Noticed a micro scratch on the screen when viewing it under my bathrooms lights. Samsung has some crappy QC. Perhaps I should have waited for the LG G4.....

Mine has a hairline scratch on the back and an almost invisible scratch on the front after a few minutes out of the box from T-Mobile. :/

Probably going to return this cheap $hit phone for an LG G4. 2nd 64GB Gold S6 and this one has about 3 hairline scratches on the screen. Pathetic QC.

I also have scratches on mine, One is fairly noticeable, the others are micro scratches, Very Very disappointing. I got a screen protector.

Hey all. Quick question here. I bought an S9+ without any contracts or anythign cash. I was due for an upgrade so I figured I would splurge. When I bought the phone I picked up an otterbox and a glass screen cover. I spent good money on the glass and I literally applied it right after I unboxed the phone, gave the screen a quick spray with the included solution and cleaned it up to perfection. The glass itself was annoying due to the loss in sensitivity. I set up the higher sensitivity in the phone, but I still had sensitivity issues when I noticed the glass protector was separating from the screen. Very annoying and one day I just yanked it off due to constant typing errors from inputs not registering. So I went online to Amazon and I picked up a Spigen wallet case so I could protect my screen in my pocket while not bothering with annoying screen protectors.
After a few short weeks, I noticed my phone had scuffs from the stitching on the case. I cant believe how fragile this screen is considering it was just a soft material scuffing it up so bad.
Anyhow, it's not a MAJOR issue because I do not notice them when the screen is on, but it certainly looks shady and will affect resale if I want to sell my phone. Any thoughts on buffing out the very small micro scratches?! Im nervous to take a magic eraser to the screen, but I have some at home and am tempted to test that out. Im almost curious if Samsung would warrant that, but I highly doubt it since it was an aftermarket case.

I have carried my phones in my pocket for years and never had a scratched glass. I don't put anything like keys in the same pocket but that's why I wear jeans, shorts, and slacks with 2 pockets. ?

So many people say they do this And never get scratches, yet every phone I've had had ended up with micro scratches. I'm the same add you and never place my phone in a pocket with anything else...

Never had any scratches on any of mine either, but might depend where in the world you are, certain types of dust/sand that have a high Mohs scale value could scratch gorilla glass, possible your region has those where ours don't, or at least not commonly
First few days I get a new phone I carefully clean it with a proper screen cloth, a week later I'm wiping it on pretty much anything soft I am close to

Caring your phone in your pocket is not safe if you are in dusty environment. One speck of sand dust can scratch your screen. The case probably picked up some particles. The stitching can not scratch the glass, neither can keys, coins, knives etc. Only things that are harder than glass like quartz. Even a speck of quartz dust can scratch your screen. You have to keep dust, dirt, and sand away from your screen or it will get scratched.
