So, tried to upgrade to the Oreo Beta. That went bad. So, restored and encrypted and was going to try again. But, after rebooting and restore, WiFi no longer will connect. Keeps disabling.
Try to forget, reconnect...nothing.
WiFi AP is good, other devices connecting. Restarted AP all good...so no idea.
Anybody have this before?
Update:
Nothing would work. Just completely wiped/formated everything, running Oreo Beta now, WiFi started working. Must have been something with firmware etc..who knows.

Today I updated my ROM from LeeDroid v2.5 to v3.0.8.2. I wiped my phone first. After this I rebooted, then rebooted again into recovery and installed the recommended radio (32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08). Then I restored my apps+dat with Titanium back up and rebooted again.
It soon became apparent that whilst mobile internet was working fine, WIFI wasn't. While my phone will connect to the router it won't connect to the internet. If I enter the local IP of my router I can browse the settings fine. I tried "forgetting" the network and re-entering security code but this still didn't work.
I restored my v2.5 nandroid backup and the internet worked fine, the radio is still 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08.
So I did a fresh install of the v3.0.8.2 ROM and tried connecting to WIFI again and again the same problem.
So my question is, is this an inherent problem with the ROM, and if so why does no one else seem to have this problem, or is it a setting issue?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Also I tried changing the WIFI channel as suggested in another WIFI thread, and this didn't change anything. Except the WIFI channel obviously.
And I tried a static IP address and that didn't work either.

You try turning off router and putting back on again? I sometime's get that in my network.
Yes I tried turning my router off for a couple of minutes then switching it back on. Didn't change anything.

Did you sort it?
I think you need to wait before the router give your router assign an ip for your phone, btw, some router donot fit all phone model
Yes thanks I managed to sort it today by following this thread
Apparently the fault is inherent to Android 2.3.3 and seems to present itself mainly with Thompson routers. It was a static IP I needed, I'd not entered the details properly the first time.
Thanks for the replies!

Thats good
The battle so far...
Earlier today I was just using my phone as usual, couldn't remember which app I was using, it froze and suddenly rebooted. When the lock screen came up, after 10 seconds or so, it rebooted again! In the next dozen reboots, I tried many things in that 10 seconds window, but nothing worked. So I went into recovery and did factory reset.
After reset, it came up fine, but couldn't connect to my works EAP wifi, stucks at obtaining IP. I thought it was just some wifi issue. I got home and tried the wifi, still doesn't work, stuck at obtaining IP address! Did google search and people with other android phones suggest factory reset (which I did earlier), so I reset again, wifi still doesn't work. Did some search in XDA GN forum and couple people suggest rebooting router, did that but still same thing!
Any other suggestions? I can't believe I'm having so many issues with latest official Google phone!
EDIT: it was all working before it first froze and rebooted. it was stock 4.0.2 yakju
EDIT 2: got frustrated and used GN toolkit to reflash stock 4.0.2 image, working again...
Ok so a couple of days ago I installed a 4.0 ready radio on my galaxy s2 and then went on to install Jedi Knight 6 ROM (4.0.4 and radio is UVMC6) and after installation everything was working fine.. I was messing around for a while.. it worked today, I shut my phone off to charge it up real quick, and when I turned it back on my WiFi would not connect. Well not necessarly connect.. it just wont even turn on. When I go into settings and click WiFi, it just sits there saying, Turning WiFi on, and never changes.. I can't seem to imagine what could have happened to it, and I really dont wanna have to reinstall the ROM again because i just spent hours getting this one all set up to my liking...
Anyone got any ideas?
EDIT: BTW, I have tried many things.. Tried airplane mode to disable everything then turn it back on, obviously tried rebooting the phone, i have tried wiping cache in CWM recovery and also tried fix permissions in recovery (another topic said to try those..)
Nothing has worked so far, i'm about to try reflashing my radio, see if that works.. but I really really dont want to have to reflash my whole ROM.. So if anyone has any other ideas please help, i'll edit if the radio works..
EDIT 2: Reflashing the radio did nothing.. it's really wierd, the data, bt, gps.. all of it works fine, it's just the WiFi that's frozen turning on... cant get it to stop turning on and can't get it to actually turn on..
EDIT Final: Ok well, i guess nobody knows what might have been going on.. so I just wound up reflashing my ROM, which obviously fixed it.. i just had to lose all that time spent setting everything up... But oh well.. Kinda sucks nobody even tried to help..

+1 I'm going through the same thing now
I have been having this same issue as well. It started out as stock happening sporadically. One thread suggested rooting and removing my account. Problem still occurring. Tried flashing multiple ROMs and now WiFi hasn't connected at all always stuck at turning on. I have tried clear cache, fix permissions, as well as reinstalling ROM dirty and with factory reset. I'm hoping this isn't hardware failure because I just bought this phone used but it seems to be a reoccurring problem with others as well. Any NEW suggestions not given from quick Google/xda search?

I'd suggest to check your Wireless Access Point (modem or router) wireless settings for security, check and see if it's set to use WPA/WPA2, which is common on some modems/routers, change it to either WPA or WPA2 (preferred) not both, it's a known issue with WiFi networks and having it set to using both, I had the same problem before with my phone connecting to my WiFi.
Also if you use MAC Address Filtering on the modem/router, you should disable/clear that and let phone re-connect before enabling mac filtering again.

The problem I am having is not that it won't connect to a particular network. Wifi will not initialize on the device at all and is stuck in "Turning On..." state. I found more and more posts where people ended up having to send in to Samsung so I spoke with them and even though I purchased the phone used its thankfully still under warranty and they will be replacing it. The did not confirm whether or not it was a true known device issue but were quick to file the exchange for me.
sigh, me too!
Just started having this problem on 4.3.1
great.
In my case, I had to wipe system and data before reinstalling my ROM.
Though the only reason it was happening to me was because Beanstalk 4.4.2 didn't want to get past the splash screen when I tried to install it so I downgraded back to ICS 4.0.4 without wiping. Good luck getting this issue fixed. Also another kernel might fix thingz for you if your current one does not like your device.
I have a similar problem. After a while, WiFi gets disconnected. If I go in settings - wifi, i get the message "unfortunately, settings has stopped" and I can't get WiFi to work again until I reboot the phone. The Wifi works again for a couple of minutes then stops.
I have flashed various different ROM (CM11, PA) but keeps getting the exact same behavior.
I've rebooted in safe mode and I don't get the problem now.
Like i said at the title, after screen off about 5min, the phone go to deepsleep then i cant turn on the wifi again unless reboot. im in OOS 8.1 5.1.1, i have try to reinstall , clean flash again but it still happen, i dont think this problem from the rom or kernel. anyone can help me please?
its so annoying.:crying::crying::crying:
Same issue here when I have "wifi on only when plugged in"
I turned on scanning for wifi and that fixed the issue.

All very fine in my Op5t with 8.1 5.1.1
Do you have battery saving apps installed and are you running stock? I've got the same issue here. Deep sleep breaks wifi. When I turn the screen on (exiting deep sleep), I either need to wait long for it to connect, or sometimes just have to reboot to get it to connect at all. I've contacted support but I think this may take some time...
Same problem here. I reflashed 5.0.4 after a factory reset. It still happens. The ONLY thing that changed is I keep getting notified to update my os. There's a check box to automatically download over WiFi. Could this have screwed something up?
I've started having other strange problems like Chrome getting very laggy periodically, and have had to reboot more these past two weeks because of connectivity issues than I have in the entire time I've owned the phone.
My next step is to do a complete wipe off everything and start completely over, but I'm doubtful this will help.

This is the issue! If you switch the setting to "always on", there is no problem. So yeah I am having the same problem, very annoying. "wifi only on when plugged in" is broken, and then wifi settings keep crashing!
i also have this problem sometimes

I upgraded to 5.1.1 after a wipe off everything (data, cache, system, sdcard, every check box available on TWRP) and it still has a problem.
Any suggestions on how to debug this?
One week ago I rooted our Nexus 5X and installed custom roms, everything worked except the wifi.
The problem is that the phone finds the network connects to it and then reconnects and on and on.
It the wifi settings it says "saved" "connecting" and contunie like that....
So I decided to unroot and install the latest Stock firmware again, but the problem is still there.
Anyone here who knows how to svolve this?
