Not natively. Right now the only way I know of is to install Accubattery.
or you can use battery widget reborn.

Google finally added this in Android P DP1. Battery percentage is now displayed on ambient display at the bottom of the screen.

Always on display uses extra battery so I personally don't use it. However it does look nice but endurance is what i need not looks

Always on display barely uses much in my use. But throughout my work day is in my pocket so it's off a lot.

sorry to bring up an old thread, but i just got this phone. when you have always on display turned on, but its in your pocket its not always on? If that's the case I shouldn't be too worried about battery life.

Your display will turn off when in your pocket. It will also turn off when the phone is face down.

Is there a way to force the watch face to remain in full color without slipping into ambient mode?
I'm interested in trying this, even though I'm sure it will have a negative effect on battery life.
Download StayLit Wear from the Play Store and set it to Indefinitely.
Just use a watchface app like Watchmaker, and make/modify your own color ambient watchface. You can choose what to enable/disable on the ambient. It's probably a good idea to turn off a sweeping seconds hand, as the OLED display will take a battery hit when it has to change pixels on the screen.
I have my own face that's color on ambient. It looks identical to the awake face, except the seconds hand is missing. Lasts about 2 days.

Good info guys, thank you!
I'll give StayLit Wear a shot.
Having an ambient face that looks identical without the seconds hand seems awesome! All the faces I download for Watchmaker seem to have an ambient mode that just freezes the seconds hand in place but it is still visible. I hate that.
I know either of these options will cause me to take a hit on battery, but I am not concerned with trying to get more than a day out of the watch.
StayLit Wear worked exactly how I wanted it to. Unfortunately, it was destroying my battery. I'm using the Dark Suit watch face, which doesn't even have a second hand, and I was losing a percent of battery every couple minutes.
I didn't think leaving the screen on would have such a drastic effect on battery life. With stock behavior, I can get maybe 30 hours with max brightness. I was hoping I could just get through one normal 15-16 hour awake day with the screen always on. It seemed like I wouldn't get anywhere close to that based on the 30 minutes I used StayLit.

Well when you put it that way, it makes perfect sense. I was thinking about it strictly from the perspective of actual screen battery use. I didn't even consider the method that StayLit probably uses to keep the screen lit...a wakelock!!
So it seems that using watchmaker like @firehawk suggested makes the most sense. It should still allow the phone to sleep, but still display full colors.

Does it cause a wakelock that severely drains battery? Or does it just keep the full color face while allowing the watch to still sleep?

Most likely your watch won't last 7 hours. At best. It's because of the current technology by the end of this year there will be smart watches lasting more than a couple days and the ALWAYS on screen (no ambient) with the new snapdragon 2100 made especially for wearables.

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the OnePlus X before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Good, 4 hours average (if idle battery drain is left out of this)
Really good on Boeffla and Temasek's CM13.
6:40 hours last time.
It completely depends on the user! If you are a power user, the battery will drain faster. Well I use my phone at a very minimal level so by the time I get home from work, I still have around 30-35% battery left.
If anyone can match this

Probably not real, those stats are f*cked up lol. He has a cut of about 10% (probably reboot into recovery or something like that) but wifi was on during that cut(lol!). If that wasn't enough, he still has 10% left with 8h sot. So I call bs or simply error in battery stats or he really just left the phone on a black background just to get those stats

you arent teaching me anything new, your post was at fault with a lot of info you didnt provide, maybe if you didnt post a useless pic with a record sot and provided more info you wouldnt be questioned. And it just keeps getting better and better, so you had a SOD that took away 10% of your battery life and still manage to get to 8 hours SOT and still 10% battery left?lol its just ridiculous imo. So please do enlighten us with the use you give your phone, because that is just unbelievable (unless you had your phone idling at a dark background like it was said before)

No need to be condescending. Have you ever rebooted your device for two or three times in a row (for example xposed module). Go ahead and watch your battery sot after that. You'll be surprised with what you see and might learn a thing or two [emoji23]

What is your location for a start, and what provider or carrier you use?
I know at 1080p, there's a combination of OIS and EIS but at 4k, is there an option to turn on EIS?
What's screen brightness like? Can you compare to any current phones on market??

I was very excited about it - more so after the release of both the OnePlus 6 and the Xiaomi Mi 8, neither of which pleased me.
How thick is the U 12 plus in the hand?
Hi, is there option to set default memmory to external sdcard (microsd)

the u12 plus does feel a little thick and heavy than many similar size phones. but its not something that will make you uncomfortable. i got to used to it in a day or so. OP6 is definitely lighter.
I really am enjoying the phone and the squeeze gestures do make so much sense in real life. the camera is also pretty awesome, i dont do much videos but photos are great and pretty color accurate.

Is there another phone you could relate the vibration to? How does it feel? Like a buzz or thud?
How has the dynamic range performance been at night? Does it tend to blowout lights if you don't tap to expose? I notice this in the 10 and U11 and I'm wondering if HTC has improved it.
How are the fake buttons in practice? Right now it sounds like it's very unreliable.
How is standby battery life? This also sounds like a major issue.

the vibration is pretty decent i must say. Doesnt rattle like the Razer Phone. But the haptic feedback on edge sense is very good close to Apple's
At night shots, its hit or miss. sometimes it takes stunning photos sometimes it is as average as my OP6. Yes it tends to blowour lights even on day shots sometimes.

to my surprise i love the fake buttons and the haptic feedback! only gripe is its little too sensitive for my liking
Battery life on WiFi is good! If your mostly on WiFi you will get 5-6 Hours SOT over 18 Hours
Standby on LTE for me isnt great. Yesterday i was mostly on LTE and got 4 Hours SOT 16 hours total usage with 5% remaining
Not too shody but i think 3500Mah should do little better
Is it possible to press two of the fake buttons simultaneously? ? Or you have an idea how it OS possible to boot into Bootloader/Download Mode without adb?
Compared to op6 is it as smooth and fast? As I understand from your post above the op6 has a better battery life.
Q on the LED notification --- is it multi-colored (even if we have to use a third party app such as lightflow) or is it only green & orange?

OP6 is smoother more often than not. But day to day usage there is nothing different. Haven't had any hiccups so far. Battery life is about the same as OP6. My OP6 on LTE almost gives me same battery life. On WiFi HTC U12+ gives better SOT than OP6. Will post some stats tomorrow.

Idk about rom but I'm gonna tell you that always on display on LCD screen is not efficient.
The whole screen stays lit so it consumes battery equal to ehen you're using your device, also it keeps the cpu awake.
Its just more harm than good :/

well, the battery would be significantly worse if the display would be alway on, it doesnt make any sense for non amoled displays, other than that, there is a risk of burn in or other damage if display would be on all the time, its just stupid to do this and i doubt that anyone will ever include this to any rom

not sure if RN5 can do it. my friend tried to port to LG G4 from G5 he says that kernels need to support it or it wont work. and as others says its more harm then good.

It's possible.. because I have used always on display on Moto g first generation with AOSPExtended Oreo ROM but later on developer removed that option.

You can download a 3rd party app. But that's gonna kill your battery. AOD is not recommended for LCD devices.

It could drain more on LCD devices as you are still using the whole backlit display as opposed to OLED that you only use the needed part for AOD. But still, AOD is a cool feature to have
