Android Pay, Androit Auto - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

If I get a 5T, I will be running the OEM ROM (no rooting, etc.) and two of my must-have features are Android Pay and Android Auto. Can anyone verify that these work correctly on the 5T? I've read a few threads that are ambiguous about a yes/no. These are things that I've generally not had to worry about with my Nexus phones, but think that the Pixels are overpriced.
In practice, I'll probably wait until I get my new car in a few months so I can try it myself within the 15-day return window. That also means that I might well be looking at a OnePlus 6!

Yes these both work as expected

They both work for me, just used android pay last night, it's super convenient.

I Love android pay. If U don't root u will never have a problem.

I'm rooted and pay works fine

Why there is low development?

Hi!
I'm considering buying this amazing tablet for university, taking profit of the developer discount. However, as the time passes by, doesn't seem to have more than two or three ROMs, what now may not be necessary but in a nearly future with no Google updates, the community is the most important support[emoji25]
So I want to know if there is any reason for that, if it is all about bootloader or all about the price
Thanks[emoji3]

Near future? There's going to be at least another 18 or so months of support for the Pixel C...how exactly is that near future? Also, with Android N we're getting alphas straight from Google's dev department so we're already on the bleeding edge as it is!

As the previous post said, Google will support this tablet for a good deal longer and is supporting it currently with bleeding-edge updates. Relative to other tablets released this year, there is as much (if not more) development here as on any other tablet. But a declining interest in Android tablets seems to be a general trend (especially compared to 2 or 3 years ago). Phones are where most of the custom rom activity is these days. Now that convertible chromebooks like the Asus Chromebook Flip will be able run Android apps (starting in June), I wouldn't be surprised if the Android tablet ecosystem continues to shrink. After all, the Pixel C was originally intended to be a Chrome OS device.
That said, Google products still get a lot of developer activity. The Pixel C seems to have been hindered initially by the quality control problems (I gave up on the Pixel C after receiving two defective tablets in a row) and the Chrome OS bootloader, which made rooting, twrp, etc. more of a challenge. Once TWRP support is solid, I would expect more custom rom development.

Yes but comparing with smartphones I don't see a high interest of developers to help creating ROMs and I thought it could be because of the chrome recovery. But as you have show me, the development is even bigger than other tablets?
That's another question (which kind of device would fit better to me) with the new support of play store at Chromebooks, because I would like a computer interface in some occasions for better productivity but as the multiwindow support is going to improve it, I think I'm finally buying the pixel c and not a laptop [emoji122]
Thanks for answering

Yeah but after that?? A Nexus device has 18 guaranteed updates but a tablet should be used 3 years or so
However I love so much this tablet and I will finally buy it

Tablets never have a large development following, you'd be lucky to have two or three ROMs for it, we just got Dirty Unicorns and Omni so I'd say were pretty good.

I think part of the problem was not having support for SuperSU, which was only just updated for Pixel C a couple of weeks ago. Give it a little time and hopefully we'll see some new stuff.
Also don't forget phones are handed to people without an upfront cost, making them far more accessible, this tablet isnt exactly priced in the range of a Nvidia K1 or Nexus 7 which wont be helping matters either.
I had an Onda v919 Air CH before this, and I do serious miss Windows 10, however to me, the Pixel does everything I need it to do, it's travelled across the world with me, kept me entertained and allowed me to view pics off my dSLR, make quick edits and etc. it's awesome for that, but I'm being realistic with myself, I don't expect this to turn into a desktop replacement, we just need N to be stabilised and well have a competent tablet in our hands which will hopefully last for a couple of years!
That's also true, most good tablets are at least half a grand.

Nope, we've had root for a while already (2-4 months), chainfire's method just makes it easier, and now Cheep doesn't have to worry about maintaining it. You guys gotta remember that this tablet hasn't even been out for 6 months yet.

Going from OnePlus One (of 2 years) to the OnePlus 3...

Hi all, its really sad I know but basically I still feel I need the upgrade selling to me...
I've had an absolutely fantastic 2 years with my OnePlus One (see how I spell it out in full I'm that anal about the terrible usage of 'OPO' just not covering this amazing device)
So ye, I just want to speak out to those that have gone from the One to the 3 and what their experiences of it are?
Just to clarify, I've been running stock ever since day one on KitKat, usually I would have flashed a new ROM a long long time ago but I feel Cyanogen have always done it 'well enough' officially (plus I use the Barclays banking app here in the UK which can sniff root out a mile away!) So ye, I'm currently running the latest official CyanogenOS 13.1 and I can't really pick fault with it...
Obviously things could always be faster but the real reason I want to upgrade is for the fingerprint scanner, I'm just getting into Android Pay and having set friends and family up with Xiaomis, and other Chinese phones with fingerprint scanners, I really really want one now...
Obviously, on paper it would be 'one' hell of an upgrade in comparison but I really want to know in real world terms, would it give me that same smile I had 2 years ago when I started using my One?
Also, is the Camera 'amazing' in comparison to the One?
Cheers!
I got my OnePlus 3 yesterday and it's awesome, it felt the same as when I first got my OnePlus One. I too also bought my OnePlus One in 2014 and felt that it was the best phone I've ever had. I actually still have it and was using up until yesterday. I skipped getting the OnePlus 2.

Sounds good, ye I skipped the OnePlus 2 mainly because of the lack of NFC but it sounds like I dodged a bullet too haha...
Does the OnePlus 3 feel like a huge upgrade then? I'm not really sure I know how to word it, I mean is it like a milestone in comparison given that they're both running Marshmallow albeit slightly different takes on it, I'd like to know what camera speed is like in comparison, just getting into the camera app and taking a picture as a comparison would be good..?
Cheers!

Would you buy the OP3 again ?

Just sold my edge plus and ordered this.
If you could pick again would you pick the OP3 or a different phone?
Thanks for any feedback as I will cancel the order if it's poor.

I actually did buy it again! But this it was for my brother. The phone is awesome, there's not much to dislike it's fast in every aspect software, fingerprint, charging, and so on. It's been a while since I've been this impressed by a phone. The build & feel quality is amazing.
I sold my S7 Duos for this and have no regrets whatsoever. I can't wait until the dash charging sources are released to hop on some of the ROMS here.

Instantly sir. Love the OP3. Sexy AF phone. Best phone purchase I've ever made. Killer battery.
I am trying to find ways to purchase either the red or gold version. I need to sell OnePlus one or moto x pure first.

Absolutely.

I would probably buy it again. However, I've used the OP3 for a while now but for me its hard to operate the phone with one hand like i used to do with the P7. Also its hard for me to get used to the OS. Although many people hate the EMUI/MIUI interface, i love it. So i really hope MIUI will be available soon. But when looking at the specs and the price i think this is the best deal at the moment. Also i am really happy with the build quality.
Thanks guys will definitely keep my order
Thanks again

Speed of updates

Hello,
I'm interested into buying this phone but a thing that matters highly to me is to have the latest Android.
So I ask you guys, if you have more experience with oneplus, how's the speed of updates and stability?
I saw that oneplus 2 got the mm update only one month ago?
That's unacceptable to me..
If you want the most up-to-date version of Android with security patches then the OnePlus is not gonna cut it for you. The only devices that get speedy updates are Nexus devices. That is one of the main reasons I switched to a Nexus. I love pure Android and being able to receive the latest version of Android is great. The support that Google provides Nexus devices is awesome. I have a Nexus 6 that I use everyday as well as a 6P to play with. The 6 and 6P are both solid devices. I'm ready for the 2016 Nexus to be released later this year. Grab a Nexus device and you will not be disappointed. Good luck on your choice.

Don't buy a oneplus phone ever in your life. I am regretting every bit of my decision to buy a oneplus 3! You need proof? Check oneplus forums and issues faced by people and no response by oneplus team
Love my OnePlus 3! You dont need updates fast, if u want that, then root or buy a nexus!
If you look on update for the oneplus 2, stable update are out kind of late, way later than a nexus device of course but before some major phone manufacturer like LG or Samsung (but it depends on the device for each manufacturer). If the update is important go for a nexus phone. My old nexus 4 goes all the way from Kit kat to lollipop 5.1.1 and officially because with CM it got Marshmallow on nightly build.

Bull****.
Although Oneplus has yet to prove that their service and update policy - which always left much to be desired - has gotten better, they already reacted well to user complaints and issued already 2 updates. My RMA also went smoothly.
With LG, for instance, I had worse experiences.
There will be bug fixes and updates every so often.Theres Been two ota updates for one plus 3 since it's release. Not bad,but these updates still have loads of bugs.
It will be a long time before oxygen is is stable on the op3.Still if u like to root and play around with ROMs.There are plenty of options and the one plus 3 is an awesome device
if you are picky and feel an update is most important to you yeah go with Nexus but despite others issues have had owned 4 devices and the problems as small as they are were not worth all the crying I see in here. Yeah I had a Nexus and Samsung as well which all had there quirks. Like mentioned rooting will keep you on top of whatever it is you want to be on top of
Nobody knows how the update experience is going to be for this device. Obviously, if we look at history, things aren't looking too hopeful.
I feel OnePlus is much more on top of their game with this device though. As others have said, the device has only been out around a month and OnePlus has already released a handful of timely updates. One of these updates directly addressed complaints about the phone's RAM management and display calibration. OnePlus had their reasons for the way they configured RAM management and the display, but had no issue with making adjustments to satisfy their customers. I have nothing but respect for them as a company for making that move.
Some are making complaints about the phone having some bugs, but they are few and far between amongst the vast majority of phones (a handful of forum posts don't represent the vast majority). I, personally, only experience the silent notifications bug sporadically...other than that the phone has been perfect. These bugs will surely be addressed in further updates.
If the next Nexus is priced as competitively as phones like the OP3 and the Axon 7, I'll surely be going with one. However, if it is priced like last year's ($499 for 32gb), I'll be hanging onto my OP3.

What issues? Those people seem trolls or noobs. Every device has issues upon launch. If you have hardware issues then open Paypal claims. My device has been perfect so far and I don't care about speed of updates because I have rooted it and can Install CM any time I like.

[Discussion] Should I buy a OnePlus 5T and why?

I currently have a Huawei P10, should I upgrade to the OP5T? Can you play games without lag and what's your favourite features with it?

Very fast, excellent gaming, great screen.
Can you still find them?
Great phone - soon to be overtaken by the OnePlus 6
If you can afford it, wait for the 6

I'm not trying to hijack, but I have a very similar question, and in the interest of not creating yet another thread...
A couple weeks ago, my OnePlus 3t that had been my daily driver for slightly over a year decided to take a swim in the toilet. As water resistant as all the 3s and 3ts were in the videos I watched on YouTube, I can tell you mine most assuredly did not follow that same path. Long story short, my poor 3t is now dead.
I am now faced with the dilemma of purchasing either a brand new in box 3t.. an exact replacement of the phone I've grown to know and love over the past year; and a very lightly used 5t for very near the same price. My question: being that I'm not upgrading from a working 3t to the 5t, is the difference worth forking out the extra $40-50 and getting the 5t or should I just stick with the trusty 3t; for which I still have the case and all relevant system backups, ROMs, apps, and other data still sitting in my laptop that I was unable to bring myself to delete?
I would wait for the OnePlus 6 but it'll a bit out of my price range and having to use this Alcatel Cameox without root or anything for that long would figuratively kill me.
