Would you buy the OP3 again ? - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Just sold my edge plus and ordered this.
If you could pick again would you pick the OP3 or a different phone?
Thanks for any feedback as I will cancel the order if it's poor.
-

I actually did buy it again! But this it was for my brother. The phone is awesome, there's not much to dislike it's fast in every aspect software, fingerprint, charging, and so on. It's been a while since I've been this impressed by a phone. The build & feel quality is amazing.

I sold my S7 Duos for this and have no regrets whatsoever. I can't wait until the dash charging sources are released to hop on some of the ROMS here.

Instantly sir. Love the OP3. Sexy AF phone. Best phone purchase I've ever made. Killer battery.

I am trying to find ways to purchase either the red or gold version. I need to sell OnePlus one or moto x pure first.

I would probably buy it again. However, I've used the OP3 for a while now but for me its hard to operate the phone with one hand like i used to do with the P7. Also its hard for me to get used to the OS. Although many people hate the EMUI/MIUI interface, i love it. So i really hope MIUI will be available soon. But when looking at the specs and the price i think this is the best deal at the moment. Also i am really happy with the build quality.

Thanks guys will definitely keep my order
Thanks again

Should I buy Nexus 5X or just go with a Nexus 5?

Okay, this may seem like a ridiculous question for tech people who love the latest and greatest, but I am trying to decide if the Nexus 5X is worth the extra money. I've been dragging along my Galaxy S5 as far as I can and now it is time to move on. I realize that the Nexus 5 is two years old, but all the reviews I read indicate that it performs just as well as the new 5X. I can get a 5 for around $125 new or $100 refurbished. That is a big difference to jump to $400. I do not play games on my phone. Just pictures, videos, work emails, and calls of course.
I did read that the Nexus 5 battery life was dreadful. That might be enough to push me to the 5X.
Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you.
I've never used the Nexus 5 but it looks like a solid phone and all you really need out of a phone.. But it's not supported by verizon so I got a 5x and I am happy with it. 250 new on eBay...

400 usd? I bought mine 250 euro so it should not be hard to find it for 300 usd. In any case, i would say that s5 is a fine phone if you put a custom rom which would be the cheapest solution.
For your kind of use any phone should keep you at least a day, 5x certainly will. That is if you dont have an app get bugged and drain your battery, but i imagine you know how to fix such issues if you are android user for more than a week
That being said, i would go for 5x if you dont want s5 and you find it cheaper. Its not the best phone in the world but it comes close, its stable, fast, gets plenty of support both from google and the wonderful devs here in xda, has most of essential features and some "futuristic" ones. It has its drawbacks too but they are not even worth to mention if you compare it to similar priced phones and imo its the best all rounder one could ask
Coming off a Galaxy S5, the 5x is a very nice improvement. I think you ought to do some more shopping. I bought mine from Project Fi for $260, then activated on Verizon. But $260-ish isn't that hard to find.
Check swappa. I have a 5X on the way I paid $265 for, albeit used. Just a thought

That is a fact. If you can stay plugged in the most part of the day you might be OK. But used means the battery is probably even worse than new. I'd get the 5x new.

Thank you everyone for the advice. I bought a 5X (LG-H790) last night off of ebay for $230. It is used, but looks pretty good. Saved a bundle of money. I was paranoid about buying the international (H791).

OP3 vs Pixel XL

Well Google released very expensive Pixel and Pixel XL phones. Is it any better than our OP3.
I feel its no better because:
- bigger chin.
- expensive
- only on screen button which reduces real estate.
- dash charging will be faster
- May be better screen to body ratio
Advantages of Pixel.
- latest Android
- may be faster, though OP3 is fine too
- bigger battery, may be bit more screen on time.
But all that worth the massive price tag. Most of cant get it on contract as well.
i agree with the chins. looks so darn ugly, reminds me of iphone 4. to be honest i dont see the pixel phone being a huge success mainly because of the price, atleast in india its priced at 57000 (856 usd) for the entry level 5 inch variant. at this price people here would prefer an iphone 7 or any other flagships. and if htc is going to honour warranties here in india, google is screwed as htc's service is pathetic.
Back in old days nexus used to be best phone for the price. Now its so expensive. I would not get it. Ill stay with oneplus or xiaomi. Both giving high end phones with price under 450$ ... I cannot wait next xiaomi 5.7" curved 2k 821dragon with 4000mha battery ...

The only "real" advantage from what I can see is the unlimited photo backup service and latest and greatest Android. Probably that camera and battery too. These however, doesn't equal to a worthy upgrade from the OnePlus 3, I'm better off waiting for another year for another phone since the upgrade just doesn't worth the price tag to me.

Chin needed to be less, even by force, price guarantee failure, or may be in future they will reduce the price. Otherwise likes of OP3 and others will eat it. They are forcing users not to buy it somehow.

Slight better camera or battery improvement is fair enough. But not for massive price. Unlimited photo back up is good. But there are many people who don't back up photos that way. And that much.

Well loss of usable or visible screen, shattering by slighting hitting phone on side bezels, accidental touches, tougher to hold phones, failure to apply screen protector are fee more benefits as well.
I was on the fence as I recently sold my Nexus 6 and am now using my wife's old Moto X (2013). I waited until yesterday to make a decision on what to get. Well, I quickly realized I shouldn't have waited to get the OP3. I was a OPO owner, sold it to get the Shamu - which I honestly regretted from the get go, the Nexus 6 had performance issues.
Nexus phones were always historically good overall, but no matter if they launched at a high retail price or inexpensive, in the end the hardware ALWAYS disappointed one way or another. Perhaps this time they may have finally gotten it right in terms of hardware, but I think this time they royally screwed up everything else:
-Google Assistant (and other features) are Pixel only features, some may not even get to the Nexus line at all (to me the biggest mistake they may ever make)
-Support for 2 years of updates - this has become probably the biggest complaint, and for good reason. My iPad 2 still gets updates, even if not to iOS 10. Incredible issue Google needs to address
-Nexus line won't get 7.1 until 2017 (beta will be released by the end of the year?) Seriously WTF is wrong with Google? This is beyond messed up
Android's biggest issue is fragmentation, which leads to OS update inconsistencies, security vulnerabilities and overall mismatched UX - yet their solution is to make all that worse with one product line. I don't get it, I just don't get it. If it weren't for the OnePlus 3 I'd be an iPhone owner right now, and that frightens me.
Everytime Google announced a new phone, I get super hyped but this is the first time I don't feel that way anymore. Maybe OnePlus 3 has spoiled me the elegant design and all the cool features that OxygenOs feature. The Pixel design is ugly, its fat, dem bezel and pricing is just ridiculous. They didn't even bother taking any users feedback and just slapped together a design. Oh and comparing it with other phones in the market, its no where comparable with other $900+ devices. Anyway, I am glad I jumped on to OnePlus 3 from Nexus 6p and I won't be going back to Google phones anytime soon.

curved? lol again man I thought manufactured learned from lgs mistake. curved display are not for smartphone!!
I had been eyeing the OP3 but decided to hold out until the Pixel announcement. I think I'm going with the OP3 at this point. The Pixel XL definitely looks good. The QHD screen, direct-from-Google updates and camera are all nice upgrades over the OP3 but I don't see it being worth nearly double the price. I could buy the OP3 now and the OP4 next year and still break even with getting the Pixel XL this year.

Exactly my point! plus I think the phone design is ugly... and all its features will be coming to us eventually, with ports etc.
I was waiting for pixel xl until the leaks came out.. Worst off screen to size ratio made me ordered the one plus 3.
Now with the affirmation of the price, I am glad that I made the switch. May buy a pixel xl if oneplus 4 disappoints or xl prices drop to 499 usd?

Would you buy this phone again ?

Getting the phone tomorrow but been reading people's problems.....
If you had to buy a phone again would you still get the pixel xl ?
Thanks

I liked all of the customization of the stock OS. I liked that I could use capacitive navigation buttons or on screen buttons. The design of the OnePlus 3 is beautiful to me also. It just gave me more joy while using and it. The Pixel is fast and the screen is better but that's about it, imo.

Ditto. The speed and battery outweighs the stuff that it's missing (water resistant, speaker, microsdcard).

For your money you will get a snappy phone that's comfortable to hold (the chin has a purpose) , looks great, the software is the best out there. It is Google at its very best. Also the camera is the best on a phone and the addition of unlimited storage means constant photos and 4k video!
The battery life is very solid and the phone does not crash, slow down or do anything peculiar. The screen is also very nice and updates are provided as soon as they are available.
No other phone offers this same package. Also Chinese phones are snooping on us!
Huge oneplus 3 fan here chiming in. Do I miss my OP3, yes. What I don't miss is how buggy the software could be. I miss the size and I honestly think the camera was a bit better (not impressed with the pixel camera, seems very grainy) but the big thing is the software. This phone if flawless. I might consider dropping down to a pixel and ditch the XL.
I'd absolutely buy the Pixel XL again, no questions asked.
Absolutely! This is the best phone I have ever had.

Should i buy it? or one plus 5?

Hi all,
Im looking for a new phone, i currently own a redmi note 3 pro, but i want a better phone overrall, i always loved mi mix, altough it was too expensive for me and a bit too big, plus the camera isnt that great..
Well, mi mix 2 was announced, kinda disappointed in some way, but i still like it, camera is good (could be better), dont care about no headphone jack, only thing that i would really like is the double camera, on the other hand, there is one plus 5, ~100€ less than mi mix 2 on gearbest, great phone overall, nice camera, but the design isnt as good as mi mix 2....
Well, im sure some of you guys have the mi mix 2, do you recommend it or should i go for one plus 5 or another phone?
Also i was looking now at the LG G6, looks cool too.

Well I couldn't resist and already bought the mi mix 2 on gearbest, but I made the mistake of buying the 64gb when the 128gb was only 10€ more, only saw it after, thanks for the feedback tho, got me more confident.
Hopefully we get some custom roms like lineage soon.

Definitely Mix2 is better than OP5

Hope it arrives soon, any thoughts on staying with the ROM it comes with. Here in Australia if I root or unlock the phone my banking apps will not work.

I own both currently. The OP5 is much lighter and the Oxygen OS is much more stock. The MIX2 just looks more modern with the bezeless design. Talking about weight again, the MIX2 almost makes my hands tired holding it for a long time compared to the OP5. The ceramic is absolutely beautiful, but don't know if its worth the weight since you cover it up with a case almost immediately. Performance wise, they are similar. Both are snappy and get stuff done. Camera wise, both aren't as good as the top flagships, but they do the job sufficiently.
OxygenOS is WAY better than MIUI. It was just easier to setup with launchers and the interface is just cleaner. I was having all kinds of trouble with notifications with MIUI, but I finally have it working right. Maybe things would be different with the global rom?? Who knows, but I can't wait for some alternate ROM to show up to clean things up. My final decision is going to be to stick with the MIX2. Reason being I can't stand the 4 year old design that Oneplus stole from apple.

What do you guys think how long will this device live?
I am still using a Oneplus One, which is pretty old by now - so I tend to settle on phones and only switch once something is broken or I'm really impressed. Development for Oneplus One ROMs / Kernels is still going on, because it was a highly anticipated phone and had many users. Is the Mi Mix 2 compared to the OPO a niche product?

It will live untill you break it xD, i mean, look at that screen, never gets old, with snapdragon 825 and 6 gigs of ram i think it will be a good phone for the years to come...the only thing i wish it was better is the camera, from what i've seen, still didnt receive mine, but i dont expect the quality of an iphone or s8, or even LG v30.

I'm on the fence pixel 2 xl or s9+

Ive been a Samsung user since the first one and haven't tried anything else. Im currently using the s8+ and I upgrade every year and am getting my new phone on Wednesday of next week. Just not sure which one. Any of you former Samsung users have any honest opinions on this matter.

If your a stock user, like TW UI, very good build and screen quality, not going to root or mod it, then get the 9. If you like a simple, very functional and fast UI, great speed and smoothness, wicked timely updates, and wanting to root and mod it, then get the P2XL. I was a Sammy user for years as well. Had the S3,4,5 and N4, then got the nexus 6p, and now the P2XL and have been having a blast. Don't get me wrong, Sammy makes a great product, it's just not to my liking since I like rooting, modding, and having the latest builds available. There's my 2 pennies worth ??

I used the S8+ from Nov through February before switching it out for the Pixel 2 XL. The S8+ was a great device but the fact it is so locked down is a deal breaker. This phone is phenomenal and I sought advice here before switching and received similar advice. If you're into tinkering, front facing stereo speakers and timely updates then this is your device.
I had the S3 and S5 and guess what I did with them. I would root and flash whatever popular vanilla-like Android ROM was out. I've heard good things with S8 and on but I really preferred my Nexus 5X and went with the Pixel 2 XL last fall. No regrets.
Thanks guys. About warranty and root. Is there any issues with returning back to stock and if not is warranty still covered

If you do go the Pixel route then don't get it from VZ, or Best Buy or Target...or any of the retailers. They won't be unlockable. Get the Google version directly bfrom Google.

If you get the Google version (and you should!) Unlocking the bootloader and returning to stock is a piece of cake. And, unlocking the bootloader does NOT void your warranty ??

Pretty sure those are bootloader unlocked, just confirm it before you buy. I am not 100 percent on that.
I'm fairly certain all carriers in Canada are Google, factory unlocked versions.
I bought my OG Pixel XL from Rogers, even though I'm with Fido (Fido was out of stock). And my SIM worked fine, and I was able to unlock the bootloader.
A phone is only as good as the software is. I had so many phones that looked good from the specifications but were useless because of the software; the LG V20 was a disaster for example. The S9+ is a great piece of hardware with a crap of Samsung bloat software. I had the S8+ and I hated it. . The Pixel has some hardware weaknesses but the software compensates for that.
Get off the fence, and try out the badboy Pixel XL 2!
Ordered it and it is on its way!!!

Wait for the 10. I have a pixel 2 XL. The Samsung screens are much better and brighter, but the s8 and s9 are very similar. The only issue is the bootloader... You could buy an Exynos version if your are on T Mobile..

I upgrade every 8-12 months so if I'm not happy with the 2 xl I will be going back to Samsung

Having owned both phones and currently using s9 plus, I can tell you it's down to personal preference.
S9 plus for it's design colour combination, build quality, better more vibrant screen, camera and better hardware.
Pixel for it's software, camera!
I have more gripes with pixel then s9 plus. S9 is the smoothest Samsung to date. Less lag and flatter ui but I use Evie launcher as that has plenty of customisation
Pixel build quality is POOR no 2 ways about it and more hardware issues.
Speakers on pixel are brilliant and more xda support, if you like that sort of thing. Also you can pickup second hand for a good price.

People always say the galaxies have better screens but to be honest, aside from brightness, I find Samsung screens to be poor.
I have 2 note 8's sitting here, which have multicolour shift when you shift it off angle, and one of them has a decidedly pink hue to the whites. This is not uncommon and I've seen it on the S9+ I tried as well. Also there is the light reflection running along the top and bottom edge of the curved screens ruining video content.
For me its this, Galaxies have bright screens, the S9+ has great speakers, the galaxies also have better battery life, but the Pixel 2 XL has much better cameras, and smoother software. Yes the screen has burn in and the top speaker is annoyingly quieter than the bottom...
