I've tried the following 3.5 mm stereo headsets on my Galaxy S II but I still can't find one that fits my needs.
1. The in-ear Samsung headset that came with the handset - I don't like in-ear headsets for making calls
2. Samsung stereo headset (AAEP404) - The receivers complained of an annoying echo on calls
3. HTC RC RE160 - Volume was too low on calls so I couldn't hear the caller
Has anyone found a good headset that works with the Samsung Galaxy S II that isn't in-ear or Bluetooth and has good call quality and volume? The in-ear Samsung headset almost meets the requirements, as it has enough volume when on calls and there's no echo on the receiver's end, but I can't stand in-ear headsets while on a call.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I'd really appreciate it.
I tested the Blackberry mono 3.5mm headset and it worked well regarding the call management button and the audio levels.
I haven't tested the BB stereo headset, but I suppose it should work equally well.
Cheers for the reply. I'll have to look out for the Blackberry stereo headset so.
Yup. I tried the Tt esports Isurus and works like a charm.
Working with FM ?
Does one knows if one of them is working with radio app ?
coz this apps requires antenna found in the wire to the ears (checked on third contact line on jack).
thx in advance
Beats by Dre with control talk seem to work well with the SGSII I was actually shocked that it did.

Have you tried adjusting the volume using the Samsungs "secret" codes?
A tutorial for that can be found in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741012

Both the Samsung and HTC stereo headsets I've linked to in my original post work perfectly fine with the default radio app on the Samsung Galaxy S II.
Okay, so I've bought an iPhone headset and a Blackberry stereo headset on eBay so I'll update the thread with my results. I've read, and heard, nothing but good things about the iPhone headset so here's hoping it's as great as people are making out. themissionimpossible, I certainly hope your theory is right that the Blackberry stereo headset will work as well as the mono one you tried...!
Blackberry mono headset works flawlessly as an antenna for the GS2 radio app.
The Sennheiser MM30i smart remote with mic works so far and sound quality is very good
Klipsch X10i - works perfectly, except the volume controls on the remote don't work, sound is AMAZING, FM works beautifully, call quality is great, though the mic is placed at the "V" and is therefore a bit low compared to others. Headset is extremely expensive.
Sennheiser MM70 with mic works perfectly. sound is good, FM works, same deal with the mic remote - middle button works for answer, drop, pause and skip, but volume buttons don't work. Not very expensive, but not giveaways either.
Shure headset with the Shure mic remote - mic remote works perfectly for pause, skip and cal answer/drop, but the mic is horribly placed unless you use the clip. It's also a heavy brute. They have their newer modular system that has the mic inline on the cord that plugs from the buds to the player directly - that might work better. Sound is based on whichever Shure bud set you run. Expensive to extremely expensive.
All of the above sets are loud enough to watch non-DRC'd movies on public transportation.
iPhone headset - bllleeeaaaaargh. Simply atrocious sound quality and volume levels.
Hi everyone this is the first time I post a thread here. I am from Hong Kong and I really hope that someone can ogive me some advice.
Recently I want to buy a earphone with mic for my Docomo SH 12C. I have tried to use the headphone shipped with the Galaxy Nexus, and it works fine. I can use the mic button to play/stop my music player, but when I tried to use the earphone from Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, it doesn't work, giving out distorted sound until I press the mic button.
So does it mean that earphones that works with Smsung phones should work on my phone too?
Also I have spotted some earphones that I am interested, can anyone tell me will their mics be usable on my phone, and which of the following is better or worth the money?
1. Monster N-ergy with universal controltalk
2. Klipsch S4a
3. House of Marley earphones with mic&1 button
4. Any other suggestions?
Thanks for all of you guys and have a nice day!
I was using the Klipsch S4A's (the Android version of S4i's) just fine with my S3 but realized when I switched to Shure 315s (I bought the phone adapter cable by Shure), the mic would not work, and also the phone call would still go to my phone, even with the ear set plugged in. I have quite a few ear sets lying around, so here's a results round up:
OK:
Tjays Four
Klipsch S4A
NOT OK:
Ajays Four
Shure 315 (well, the adapter cable anyways)
Kplisch S4i
ALL of these headsets worked with my S2.
Does my phone have a problem?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this.
Thanks.
Ken
I just realized my Klipsch S5i don't work with this phone, I'm bummed. So the S4a works properly, mic and everything?
coming from galaxy S , i find that samsung jacks is not universal , even some top end brands like grado , bose headphone doesnt work well
be sure to check compatibility issue before you get any headset , not all work perfectly on samsung jacks

Yes, S4A's work bit not s4i's.
Cheers
I have the same problem with my Klipsch S4i and Sennheiser mm30i, how annoying! All work fine on my HTC desire, S2 just not S3.
Thanks
Ron
The mic from my Ultimate Ears 600vi isn't working either.
Works fine on my HTC Desire and Nexus S...
This belongs in accessories

Ugh, same here. My UE 600vi's worked great on my Galaxy Nexus, but now my mic doesn't work on the GS3. However, the center button still works.
I can confirm most i-Phone centric mic'd headphones (especially the ones with 3 buttons) aren't working. Myself I have a TDK EB950 that exhibits the same characteristics - works for music (the middle button only), fails at calls.
Now using a Belkin Universal mic adapter (single button) with it. Works swell no issues.
I suspect the impedence difference is messing with the part that reads the button signals.
my 600vi is a little bit different
my UE600vi works fine with galaxyS2 but not with S3.
funny thing is both earphone & mic works fine when I'm call someone.
but when i RECEIVE a call (when 600vi plugged in) , suddenly my GS3 works as if there's no earphone. (sounds and mic works from the phone, not my 600vi)
i really can't understand why,, i'm using Korean galaxyS3 though. Asked samsung about this, but the reply was "go ask logitech!!!" lol
Since the S4A earphones work, I would assume that the S4A (II)'s will work. If anyone has purchased this new revised set, I'd like to know if this is the case, I might be purchasing some soon.
I have a pair of Audiofly AF45M's that work great. However they do not have a three button remote in-line, only one button for answering calls/pausing/skipping tracks. The mic seems to work well, none of my calls have complained and the few friends I asked said my voice was clear even in noisy environments. I must say that they are the best in ear headphones that I've owned (well should say that they're the nicest pair that I've bought compared to freebies). I know this isn't a thread for IEM reviews but I only mention it because from what I read on head-fi they are a brand new company out of Australia and are making some great products.
I had a pair of Ultimate Ears 350vm's from Costco but I didn't even make any calls with them because I didn't like the sound quality compared to my Audiofly's. So I returned them, the volume slider and the push button seemed to work, but cannot comment on the microphone functionality.
Right now I'm using a pair of Brainwavz M5 (also have the M4) with mic and one button and they work perfectly fine. Also tried the Shure 215 with mic cable (again the one button version, not the iPhone one) a few weeks ago and those also worked without any problems.
There seems to be a hardware thing in the S3 which cause "Made For iPhone" headsets (most notably those with volume buttons) to not function properly...
True!
I've just tested with my Klipsch Image One and S4i. When I call someone, everything works just fine, mic and end call by the center button.
So it must be a Software issue.
Thanks,
Adler
I have the Shure E215 with the phone cable (single button), and it's worked fine, both with stock and CM10. The triple button cable is wired differently.
You're right. I also have a Beats Studio with single button and it also works fine. But since my headphones with triple buttons also work when I initiate a call it must be a software problem.

Hey curious, can you say which belkin universal mic adapter you're using? My powerbeats mic doesn't work and I'm desperate to find an adapter that will restore that functionality to them on my s3. Thx!

More Headset tests
First off, Thank You all, for all the helpful info! I have a set of (awesome) Skullcandy Heavy Medals, and a set of Skullcandy 50/50's, and also a set of some type of Logitech earbuds, all have 3 button mic's, None work as mic's on My Galaxy S3, They all work as headphones, but if trying to answer a call, they need to be unplugged, and plugged back in, to hear a voice, but still no mic, and they all worked on My Galaxy S2, and another S2 HD Lte, (All on Bell mobility Canada), and also worked well on My Nexus 4. The Oem samsung headset works great, including mic and volume up/down, and answer button. Also I have a set of Skullcandy Ink'd, with a single button on mic, and they work fine on S3 as well. My S3 is an Unlocked SGH-i747M originally a Rogers wireless Canada phone.
Thanks again, and I hope this helps someone! :cyclops:
Does LG G3 supports 5pole 3.5mm headsets? (eg: Sony MDR-NC31EM)
Thank you!
I presume so, even if it doesn't go all the way in it should still have audio. I have a jack that sticks out a bit and works fine.
Works for me too.
I use the Sony MDR-NC31EM of my Xperia Z2, and have no Problem.
Even the Mic of the Headphones works!
Just talk directly into the Left(?) one
Noise cancelling feature

great! does the noise cancelling feature work fine? or just work like a regular headset?
Hey, I'd just like to know where did you get that cable?
Hi guys,
So I've LG G3 D855 with lollipop and i am experiencing a weird problem. I'm using the original earphones that came with the phone but on the earphones the volume buttons, the mid button & the mic as well have all stopped working. I can listen to music using my headphones but I can't speak using my earphones on call as it's mic is not working, I can't change track, can't even raise or lower the volume using earphones buttons.
I am new to this forum. I did search about the problem first but couldn't find an answer here. Anyone knows how to fix it? My phone is not rooted and the problem was there before upgrading it to lollipop too.
Thanks
Anyone? Anything ?
same problem here.
but i found out the the earphones of my Samsung S3 work just fine on the G3 and also the LG earphones work fine on my Samsung Tab S!
So it seems to be a problem with only the original LG earphones on the G3 alltough they are displayed/recognised on the G3 as a headset.

In my case the LG earphones are working with other devices but any other earphone not working on my LG G3. By "not working" I mean the mic, the volume up/down buttons are not working but the sound from earphones is OK (It is OK in case of LG's own earphones too)
Any idea whats going on? and how to solve this irritating issue..
earphone remote troubles
Hi, I wish i had the answer to this but unfortunately, im just another one with a similar situation. First off, I have a sprint LS990 and didnt get any headphones when i bought it back in August 2014 but had a samsung windows phone before my g3, which i had 2 sets of the white HTC earbuds with remotes/mics that i got from nomorerack.com on sale. Anyway, the volume buttons, middle button(pause/skip), and mic all worked perfectly on that phone (Ativ S Neo). When i used em for my g3 though, on stock rom, cloudy 1.2, and BarRin, all the buttons except vol. down worked no matter what i tried. With Lollipop now though, I'm running Barepop rom currently, and all of a sudden the down volume button actually works in addition to all the others. So im just stumped and trying to find out anything that anyone might know about the issue or a fix for it even so i can revert back to my trusty KitKat. Hopefully someone comes across this thread thats got some insight into the headphone issue of the G3.
In the meantime, thanks dev's, for all the great stuff on this website.
Same problem in my G3
I am trying all the earphones ( Samsung,LG,MI,Soundmagic) but nothing is working, the only solution I found is bluetooth earphones. Any other solution ? Bluetooth headsets don't come cheap when you try to find equal quality of your 10$ earphones.
Same problem here.
I tried an Apple headset and Klipsch Image S2a, both works perfect (mic + buttons) with my G Pro 2, but not my G3.
Did anybody try to get it fixed under warranty?
