Hello!
Thread especially made for headphone segment of the Xperia X8.
Also if you need help with picking a headphones for your phone post here,
i'll help if i can.
P.S.Sennheiser CX500 G4ME arriving in 2weeks so i'll pop a review and comparison beetwen the stock one and these.
I just got my X8 today and tried using it with my aftermarket iPhone ones and found they didn't work at all.
It works with the included headphones of course, but they're not very good (they don't even hold in my ears very well, which is a worry when I'm hoping to use them while running or cycling) and it works with ordinary (no microphone) 3.5mm headphones.
The plug of the iPhone headphones looks similar to the one of the Sony headphones but for some reason the X8 completely ignores them, it doesn't even send sound to the earphones let alone take microphone input.
Meanwhile, the Sony ones work on my iPod but they're extremely quiet.
Can someone confirm that this is in fact true generally, not just for my (two pairs of) iPhone headphones which I tried?
Is there any way I can get iPhone headphones to work with it (desirable because these earphones are easy to find and buy, relatively cheap and with wide choice) or do I have to stick with special Sony ones?
A major reason behind me getting my new phone was that I was sick of the crap Nokia pulled with my old phone requiring proprietary headphones with their connector. It's nice that the X8 works with standard non-microphone 3.5mm earphones, but what's the deal with microphone ones?
I use this nokia headphones for my xperia. Mic works as well as call button. All other nokia headphones with volume control won't work!
Xperia has unique jack for headphones with music controls...and I hate them for that! Original ones for music player are too expensive
I use the same ones as they're great for skype!
I1m using sennheiser HD 518 and they are great !!
Stock X8 headphones are sh%t.
Previously, I had a SE W810i Walkman and I must say, that hearing to the music (with stock headphones) was a real pleasure - very close to iPhone IMO.
So, when I bought X8, I was truly unsatisfied.
Then I decided to buy OEM SE MH810 stereo - AFAIK it comes with Xperia X10 mini Pro. That was a good choice - quite goood sound quality and I can control music player app (volume up/down, next/previous, play/pause).
I bought the mh810 and i use them while cycling.
The headphones are excellent. Its a shame they don't work on the big x10
I got mine for £12 off ebay
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
Has anyone tried something like this - bluetooth stereo headphones?
i used to use blue-tooth stereo headphones on my mobile previously but a different model from those. i found there was quite high battery drain, but that might have been just my phone..

Confirmed. SE stock does not work with IPods, well you could make it work by pulling the connector out a little. It's due to the speaker part of the connector is differently recognized by SE and Apple. My apple headphones broke down a long time ago so can't test.
OEM SE headphones that come out of the box with W810i work pretty well, but the wire is short.

Just ordered one from ebay
i use headphones from Galaxy S and i like what i hear , the stock headphones are kinda mizerable.
hi i use my xperia x8 with bluetooth headphone hbh-ds205 and everthing work fine for me
wait till w8 comes and buy the head phone which is bundled with it... simple
My xperia play works fine. The sound from the speakers is good but when i connect the sony earphones that came with the phone the sound is very odd. Partly too quiet, partly some arrangements missing from the songs, difficult to describe - but anyway: not as it should be!
Does anyone have an idea what's wrong?
And on a different note: what kind of plug is the headphone? I wanted to try different headphones, but it appears its not the standard (?) 3,5mm plug. (as it always says "Das Zubehör wird nicht unterstützt" - this accessory is not supported)
I have a rooted (locked bootloader) 2.3.3 xperia play.
No idea what's going on. I always plug in my Audio Technica M50 headphones in my Play and they work like a charm! It should be standard 3,5mm because that's what I use. I know some people have problems with headphones and android phones in general. Don't know what causes it.
I've never actually used the sony headphones that came with my phone. I just use a pair of skull candy headphones and the sound is perfect. I would suggest trying a different pair of headphones with your phone and see if you still encounter the same problem.
yeah, i just tried using the headphones on my pc and there the sound is bad as well. But still, other headphones i tried with my phone didnt work at all (sennheiser, some headsets).
I just ordered another set of headphones with sony ericsson branding (for just 3,50€), maybe those actually work well.
It doesn't work with earphones with mic..
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
Does any1 know if you can use headphones with a mic and play pause button? I just got skullcandy heads phones with the play/pause/mic and I was bummed out at the poor sound quality, but the other ones work fine is it hardware?
Although I guess no-one is interested, just wanted to say that my problem has been solved.
I sent my xperia play in and it was repaired, it appears it was a hardware problem. Now i dont have any problems with any earphones i tried anymore!
Hey,
I need a new headset for my Sony Xperia S. I dont want the cheap headset with comes with it because its to quiet and has only one button. The Sony Smart Headsets are too expensive.
I want a headset which is priced between the Sony Headsets which work (about 30€), which is a cable headset and has buttons (for accept call, play, pause, adjust volume, skip...) I would prefer one with 3 buttons.
I now recognized that only few headsets work with my phone so I need help.
I ordered a Sony MH1 because I thought it would work with my phone. Because it doesnt work I want to give it to the mother of my girlfriend. She uses the the Galaxy Gio. Will the Sony MH1 headset work with her phone?
Thank you in advance
Greetings

Notes
Maybe this isn't the kind of help that you're looking for, but here are some information about headsets:
This comes from: http://www.head-fi.org/t/632892/review-sony-mh1-the-best-kept-secret
Let’s begin by explaining two standards used in making the 3.5mm TRRS plug on headset – OMTP and CTIA (both are organizations for mobile standards). For OMTP, the TRRS plug is wired as [Left-Right-Mic-Ground] (from tip-to-sleeve); for CTIA, the TRRS is wired as [Left-Right-Ground-Mic].

So, the problem is in the wiring of the plug, especially on the mic part. If the connection are reversed, the mic won't work and phone may not recognize the whole as headset.
You can try to find a sort of adapter for the headset that you like (and got).
Also, is important to notice that volume control should be referred for the headset only (apart any other volume control in the phone) due to the lack of data connection between the phone and headset itself (in most headsets the button is a short circuit of mic wires)...
My best experience is with bluetooth headset (AD2P and AVRCP for music, BT-Headset for phone calls). I can control the flow of my favourite music, at the same time of the incoming (and eventually outgoing, with voice commands) calls, with same headset, and without any wires in the middle. An example of these is: MW600S here: http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/st...10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666492655
Thank you for your answer.
I have an TRRS adapter but it doesnt work with it either.
I didnt know the facte about the volume control. This isnt too important so it is no problem.
Will the MW600s work with my Xperia S? and does the MH1 Headset work on the Samsung Galaxy Gio?

Hello,
does the Z3 Series feature a 5 pol 3.5 jack? Did sony mention the compatibility of the microphone with the new z3 series?
Yes, Z3 & Z3C support / have a 5-pole 3.5mm jack, else I wouldn't know how e.g. the Sony MDR-NC31EM Digital Noise Cancelling headset could work (which they claim it does in the White Paper). Similarly, the Stereo-Mic STM10A should work, too.

Is there a way to use a classic (3-pole 3.5 mm jack) external stereo microphone on the Z3C ?
I already have a good one (Sony ECM-719) and would like to use it rather than buy the STM10.
Thanks
I saw an article on the internet that showed a stereo microphone that connects to the xperia z2 via the earphone jack. anyone know of something similar for our phone? I am really interested in finding a nice microphone that can be attatched to the z1, I am not content with what I get from just using the built in microphones.
this is what I am talking about: http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/accessories/stereo-microphone-stm10/
also, will this work for the z1?

That particular microphone won't work with the Z1.
Look at the pin stripes. It has an extra contact point that the 3.5mm port of the Z1 doesn't support.
That said, any 'regular' 3.5mm microphone should work with the Xperia Z1...
