Is it not possible to remove red eye in gallery pics? Google says it is and lists instructions.
Go to photo, tap on it and select edit then Portrait, then red eye fix.
I don't have portrait option but my wife's S8 does. Gallery app same version

You go to the photo in Gallery, but you go to the upper right corner and select the drop down for Photo Editor Pro. Your Fix Red Eye option will be there.

I've tried that also and still a no go, there is no Portrait option in Photo Editor Pro for me to choose so I could then choose red eye fix....

Here's a photo from my phone. Went into it on gallery. Opened the 3 dots menu to select Open in Photo Editor Pro. Then there's Portrait mode on the bottom.
If your phone doesn't have it, you might need to update your Gallery or find it on the Galaxy Apps store.

Yeah, my phone does NOT have that. Portrait is missing. It is there in my wife's S8 but not on my Note 8 and it is upgraded to the most recent release. Wondering if a factory reset is in order?

Yes, it's in the latest Verizon firmware release. See if you disabled it or not.

That is so weird. Samsung support cant tell me for sure if the option is supposed to be there or not. Best Buy says the option is there on the floor models but not on 2 employee personal note 8's. Said he was still looking into it but the floor models are on august build and employee versions are november build. Mine is also November build and Portrait is not there. What could i have disabled?

I figured it out. The option to fix red eye only appears if you are looking at a photo where the phone detects a person's eyes. For example a picture of a mountain does not have the option, a selfie does. I'm on the latest Verizon build.

Not entirely true. I just updated my Verizon Galaxy note 8 last night. Took pictures tonight of my daughter at the pumpkin patch. Cant edit the red eyes and her face is very visible and it wont give me the option or even present an option to fix the red eye like it has before.

Hi all.
I have some questions regarding the new camera app in 4.2.
Why is there a difference between the camera I open from the lock screen widget and the actual camera out of the menu? For example when I take a picture with the widget camera, swipe to the left so have a look at the picture, I can only "delete" it. There are not the regular options like "share" or anything. I first have to go back, unlock, open gallery, find picture and then "share". Why is this??
Also, when I take a picture and afterwards have a look at it in the gallery, it actually captured more of the thing I wanted to take a picture of (I think about 10% at top, bottom, left, right). Has anybody else this issue?
And of course, the very frustrating lag when turning the device from landscape into portrait or vice versa, but like I read in other topics this is everybody's issue.
Thanks all!

That is for security reasons. Otherwise anybody who gets a hold of your phone could share your pictures anywhere he wants. If you disable your unlocking option (or set it to "move finger") you'll get the full menu including the icons for sharing.

This was most likely the reason.
But, correct me if I'm wrong, the camera can only be accessed via the 'Slide' screen lock, which isn't secure at all.

Yeah you're wrong. There is a huge camera icon sitting on the first page of the menu. I don't think anyone will miss that.
Why have the real time face effects in video recording been removed?

The camera actually take more than what we view on screen. That's annoying when I take a close up picture, it become farther view than what we seen on screen

you can also acces the camera using a lock pin. i didn't try with other security means (pattern, faceunlck, etc..) but i guess it's the same thing. personally, i like this feature a lot.

Yes. While the camera app is open and the front camera is selected, tap the 'settings' icon (the geared wheel) and you'll see an icon that looks like two heads in profile. They will be both facing the same direction by default. Tap them so they are facing away from each other. Now, while the image will still appear on the screen mirrored, the resulting picture will appear normal.

So you guys never seen a mirror?
It is just a preference. Things normally have to be flipped when you use a FFC for selfies and video.
Apologies if there's a specific android forum where this would be better but having come from Samsung where is the old Android gallery app?! I know there's Google Photos but that doesn't show other folders in the way I want it to. Is QuickPic the only option?
I was in the same boat as you coming from note 7, and edge 7. And only gallery I have found and enjoy using on my pixel xl is
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kr.co.ladybugs.fourto
If you hit the menu button in the top left corner of google photos, you can change the view to show device folders and get the same setup

I've used QuickPic before and that's fine but I just want a basic gallery, I don't need all the bells and whistles.

I'm ever so grateful when people point out things like this I missed. Trouble is, I always feel like an idiot!!
On October update, it's dark. Did not notice until nighttime so I don't know if it's tied to time. Can't find any settings for it.
Are you on beta? I don't see a dark theme and have the October update.

Not on any beta. Not even aware of a current beta.
Under settings, display, advanced I have dark theme selected. And I do have a solid black wallpaper.
I meant beta for Google app. Dark theme and black wallpaper still didn't do the trick.

Lol, as soon as I hit submit I realized that. Not on the app beta, but I do have a pretty new version from 9/27.
And correct me if I am wrong, but the layout looks new too. The topic of each card is centered now with the little stars. I remember it being part of the card and on the left.
Yeah does look like a new layout. I have the same version. Probably a server side update that got turned on for you.

There is a little slider on the right for more or less. Page two of assistant is all white.
I am happy to report it stays dark during the day.
I believe it was a google app update, not beta or anything like that.
Got it going as well.

It's part of the 9/27 update. It is then turned on server side. They do this somewhat often.

Can't find it. When you say Android settings, do you mean the gear icon when you pull down the notification bar? Maybe I don't have it yet, just want to make sure. Care to share a screenshot of the setting? Thx

OK, this must be an Android Pie only setting. I'm currently on Oreo. This might push me over to upgrading. Thx for the help
Is there somewhere else I need to check to rotate the home screen? Apps and phone manager rotate fine.
You need a 3rd party app to make that happen, normally you swipe down to bring the notification screen, then tap and hold the gear until it spins and then it goes off the right side of the screen, at this point it would normally go to setting and then see the system ui tuner in the menu, but Huawei has removed this and you have to download "Activity Launcher", but I dont think this works anymore as it stopped working on my HN8 after it updated to 8.0. But those are the two ways to make it work.

@cccmachin Try the attached file, unzip and install, it can change the orientation of the screen. Been using it for years, plain and simple, nothing fancy.
