So I know a lot of people are reporting shutdown or reboot issues on the Pixel XL 2. I was wondering if anyone has pinpointed this to android 8.1? Or if this issue is also happening on Android 8.0.1? On my old Nexus 6p with the Android 8.1 DP1 and DP2 I would get random shutdowns where I couldn't turn the phone back on unless I placed it on the charger for a second; no matter the battery life. And I put a brand new battery in it like 2 weeks ago and Accu Battery reported 115% health. I just got my new Pixel XL 2 and I am giving my Nexus 6p to my brother so earlier this week I restored stock on my Nexus 6p to November 8.0.1 (OP6 I think). And all this week while still using my Nexus 6p the random shutdown issue went away. So that got me thinking the issues are Android 8.1 related? Anyone confirm this?
Just trying to help the community!

No random reboots (yet) but the difference between the time it takes my phone to unlock using the power button or fingerprint on the November release and DP2 is staggering... On the November release (stable) unlocking is lightning fast.. DP2? Very slow... I don't know why!!! A few have had this issue but most haven't... it's weird and I hope whatever the issue is gets fixed? I feared it was hardware related but it works as it should on the November release.

Hello guys, My name is Icaro and I visit this forum since a few years a go, I first met you guys when I had an Motorola Defy MB525 (Yeah the Legendary Defy! ) and since this I've been visiting here like an ghost so many times without login, in my account, just seeing what was happening to the devices. Well, the years was passing and I've upgraded the Defy to an Moto G XT1033 and put my hands on a brand new Nexus 7 2nd Gen.
Since Google I/O I was waiting Lollipop, just because I've falling in love with the Design characteristics,I first guess that the update has been AWESOME, but now the official was getting some problems that Developer previews didn't had, the first ones because the LPX13D had similar issues.
I'm getting some issues, you guys are getting the same or others like these? Let me know!
First Update
System Image: 5.0 LPX21P
Flash Method: ADB Fastboot Google's Flash-all Script
The first issue
The device seems to be more hot when the screen is just on, some times in idle or in occasionally use, and when the device is playing some music... Think that this was caused by the ART runtime but I don't know if It's really this...
The second issue
The battery it's having an huge drain, the device stopped to work all day to work now to half a day... And this is pretty scary, since you guys know that KK update was holding the device all the day by 24hrs in moderated use, finishing the day with more less 40% of the battery.
Second UpdateSystem Image: 4.4.4 KTU84P + 5.0 LPX21PFlash Method: ADB Sideload (Forced OTA)
First Issue not Fixed... The Device continues to get abnormal temperatures without an "powerfull" usage...
Second issues seems to be fixed, battery now drops 1% every 10 minutes approximate.
If you want a guess, It's better you use ADB sideload to do an forced OTA update.
I think that Lollipop AOSP Image LPX21P has some battery drops/drains that the OTA don't have.
Are you getting this some issues?
I've been on the oneplus 3 since a few months and never had this problem before. I've been on paranoid android since it came out and also never had this problem. But since yesterday my cpu has been overloading at over 95% the whole time the phone stays switched on and thus results in battery drain and overheating. I'm almost unable to use the phone at all. The only change that I have done to this phone just before this happened is update all my apps yesterday which I haven't updated in a month. I don't think this is a rom problem as it never happened till yesterday. Could this be a problem of one of the apps that got updated? Or any other solution?
P. S: I'm posting this on the paranoid android discussion as well.

Whats wrong with multi touch? I installed a multitouch testing app on mine and it registers 10 fingers with no issues at all when I move them around and games work perfectly?
Hi all,
Quite noob on Pixel 2 XL, just rooted it with Magisk one month ago; so I'm still on February image.
How can I update to April image without losing anything, please? (Already downloaded the image, btw)
(Directly or with Skipsoft tollkit)
Thanks a lot!

Just follow the guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/how-to/guide-unlock-flash-root-pixel-2-xl-t3702418
1. Download the image and adb, twrp image and magisk zip
2. Flash the image without the -w parameter
3. Temporarily boot into twrp, flash the magisk zip and you're done, takes 5 minutes

What kind of issue? Screen not turning off when covered or screen not turning on when uncovered? Either way, I was on a call earlier and it turned on and off fine.

Screen not turning back on when you take the phone away from your ear during a call

I think it's too early to tell the impact of most of those changes in my usage so far. Fingerprint sensor response has improved for me.
The biggest thing I was looking forward to was all the mentions of battery life improvements. Unfortunately battery life doesn't appear to be any better but so far doesn't appear to be any worse. The February and March updates really hurt battery life.

No issue for me. I don't think that's a software issue. I think it's a hardware issue. The same thing happened on my Nexus 5X
I am on my second day of the April security patch and my battery life has gotten much worse. I got it launch day and I have always gotten 5-6 hours SoT for 18 hours off charge and still have 30% battery left. Yesterday I got 3.5 SoT for 18 hours and was at 4% when I plugged it in. I never had any adverse effect of battery life with the monthly patches until now. I havent factory reset since I bought the phone.

No. But we still see teaser posts that some whiz just discovered something that Google and Verizon simply don't know.
It's locked down tight on VZN models.
Have people been able to use the tethering module through magisk on the April update?
for me the initial install of April the battery life was better than March by far, but the next few days definitely doesn't seem much better, so pretty scary how quick the fall off was for the battery life fall off when looking the the battery stats pages. Touch responsiveness is much better, and generally the phone now feels like it should have been from the beginning.

Usually by the end of the day im left with about 15 -20%. Now im to 15% around 5 or 6PM. Battery definitely draining much faster
My battery life has gotten stupidly better. First day was close to 5 hours SOT with 50% battery left at 20 hours off charger(normally would have been 2-3 hour SOT pre April patch). Right now I'm at 2 hours SOT at 75% battery left with 11 hours off charger. Most of my SOT is games(Clash Royale, Final Fantasy Pocket Edition) so it's not like my usage is lite. Though personally I feel as if the patch has gotten my battery life back to how it was at launch before the first patch. I'm thinking some of those carrier optimizations were for Project Fi as that's what I have.
Has anyone updated their 2 XL with the March release of TWRP since the April update hasn't been released? Any issues?

Most twrp users did that the day the Google April update came out. As always, there are always going to be some users that have issues for whatever reason. However, from the majority of things I've read, most users, including myself, have had little to no issues with using twrp :good:
Been using Pixel 2 XL for the last 5 months, battery health according to AccuBattery is 92%. My issue is that my phone skips percentage for example, it'll go from 100-98 58-56 and so forth. I was using Stock Rooted 8.1 before I recently installed Android P Beta. And when I was rooted I did calibrated battery a couple of times without any improvement in my issue. And even with Android P beta I'm still facing the same skipping percentage issue. What is causing the issue and is there any solution?
Anyone?
This happened to me with the Nexus 6P. Only solution that fixed that issue was a complete battery swap. No clue if that is what you need. Ask Google Support and see. I just got my Pixel a week ago, have not seen that issue
I've been running Android 10 since release and I have to say it has been the poorest experience yet since the phone first came out. It is too aggressive closing background processes. I can't have a podcast play to completion without it just closing and even forgetting where I left off. The leg is horrible and my battery life has gotten worse since pie.
Am I alone or is anyone else having a similar experience?

I like 10...No issues other then bluetooth connectivity occasionally acts up when connecting to my vehicle and running Pandora. I never cared for 9 and went back to 8.1 on my PH-1 until a stable version of 10 is available.

Other than Google headed toward completely locking down recovery, I've been happy with it. Stock, rooted, EX kernel. Not experiencing any memory or lag issues at all.
Hello,
I have the device since ~ two months. I don't have any special complaint...
Battery is rather good for the moment. September version was quite buggy..!
I think the october release improved the experience a lot...
Actually stock October image + Root + EX Kernel.
Cheers...
Sébastien.
I only have two issues, and both aren't deal breakers, but they are concerning a bit. The first is random reboots like once a week. It doesn't matter what I'm doing as it just decides to reboot. The other is a bit more concerning as it happened twice since 10 was officially released. Again it doesn't matter what I'm doing, and the screen will go black, and become unresponsive. I have to force a manual reboot, and when it tried to boot the splash screen flashes several times, and then it boots into recovery with a message "Could not load Android OS. You can try again, or do a factory resest.". I selected "Try Again", and it booted normally, but I don't like risking that. Other than those two issue it's been super smooth, and very snappy. I have no complaints about performance at all when it's working normally.
Thank you for the responses. I'll try to wipe and reinstall to see if that helps.

Glad you've mentioned the podcast problem. Same here. Either stops randomly and when going back in then it's back to the beginning. Are you using Google Podcast app?
Yes, that app has been the most frustrating. Although, iheart has given me the same problem. Nothing like listening to a 4 hour episode of Hardcore History and then losing where I was just for checking how bad I'm doing in fantasy football. Double kick in the nuts...

I liked the Android 10. Don't have problem with apps closing or RAM issues. My problem is with the battery draining. Already done a factory reset after the OTA, but the battery life is getting worse every day. Have no social networks besides WhatsApp, using a few data because I live in small town that every place that I go have wi-fi. Using pie, have 36/38 hours with 4.5/5 hours os screen. With Android 10 now have 30 hours at best with 5/5.5 SOT. Battery is draining like 2% per hour, and it really bothers me. Also, full stock here. Probably will back to Pie soon.
november update seems to have made some improvements with battery life.

Not for me no. I got the phone back in June.
The battery life on P3XL is garbage. The P3XL is 2 months old. I have a 2 year P2XL with the exact same setup and the exact same apps. The battery life on P2XL is at least 50% better, even though it has been used for 2 years.
With identical usage, the P3XL drains battery twice as fast as P2XL. I've compared multiple scenarios with identical usage on both phones.
So no amount of Vodoo magic will fix the battery in P3XL. It's just terrible. My hypothesis is the battery temperature. I have an app that measures battery temperature and the P3XL seems to have a similar problem as P1XL - it runs WARM.
The P2XL, however runs much cooler in temperature So for ex, browsing Chrome and checking email, the P3XL might be at 35-37 Celsius, but the P2XL will be at less than 25 Celsius in exact same conditions.
Charging the P3XL also make it reach sometimes 40 Celsius, playing game over 45 Celsius. The P2XL almost never goes over 30 Celsius even on heavy load.
The battery in P3XL also drains very quickly with screen usage. I think the phone suffers from poor optimization, bad thermals, overheating and a battery hungry screen.
I'm always stressed out when being out without a charger for the P3XL. With the P2XL - it's never been a problem. I only charge it after 2 days.
to me, Android 10 has been the worst update on the Pixel 3 XL.

This is exactly how I feel. Sad Google decided to lock-down recovery, but it was just a matter of time. Wouldn't be surprised if this is just another step towards eventually removing us from obtaining root. (hope not)
But other than that, I love Android 10.. I love dark mode, bluetooth has been stable for me and stock rom with EX kernel has been great. But that's also been the combo I've had on my phone for years dating back to the Nexus 6P.
Just leaving this here
And I just want a customisable navbar.
Is it so hard Google?
