anyone having an issue with Google photos? - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

I can't get Google photos to back up any of my pics or videos. I have it set up appropriately (never had a problem on any other device including my op5) but on the option it just says "getting photos" but that's it.
It won't even back up my photos if in try to do it manually

The only issue I have with Google Photos, on any device, is how janky and terrible the pinch to zoom is. I doubt Google even tests any of their apps anymore.
That's why I'll never use it as the main Gallery or to show off Photos. It's embarrassing.
As far as backing up, that seems to be working ok for me. As long as it's Sync'd under Account Settings, it's usually fine.

Had the same issue when I changed to OP5T.
It would sit at "getting photos..." and not do a thing (even the network speed in status bar was 0 K/s).
I resolved it by cleaning the its data and cache in storage (Settings>Apps>Application List>Photos>Storage>Clear Data) and go through the setup process again.
Hope it resolves your issue also.

Hey thanks that worked. I originally tried disabling and enabling it (that used to clear all data) but apparently not anymore. Clearing data for the app worked perfectly. Thank you

[FIXED][Q] My Home button has stopped working

EDIT: OK, I fixed the problem. Let this be a lesson for people to remember to have a backup before doing some flashing. It appears that my Titanium backups of the default android apps were screwing things up for me. I fixed it by restoring to an older version, and only restoring my apps that I downloaded, and none of the google apps/data.
OK so I flashed the official Google stock image for 4.0.2 today on my phone. I then flashed the radio from my carrier (Virgin Mobile Canada) and rooted the phone. I restored all of my apps, and everything was working just fine for a while.
Now, when I go to use my phone however, the home button refuses to work. IT still lights up and plays the sound like it's supposed to, but nothing happens. I took a look at the logcat output, and there wasn't anything happening there when I pressed the button.
Also, the wifi and network signal icons are now greyed out as well and I have no idea why. It was working perfectly before.
Anyone else experience this issue and know of a fix? I'd hate to have to flash to my backup and start over again.
Silly question but have you tried pulling the battery>? If so maybe go in to CWM and fix permissions? Worth a try.
When the reception and Wifi/Data icons are greyed out this means that you are not connected to Google services. Check in Accounts and settings and see if Sync has been turned off or if there are any categories experiencing issues with Syncing. Mine was greyed out when I couldn't upload pictures to Google+ I disabled sync then re-enabled and that worked for me

Thanks, but unfortunately that didn't work for me. The home button still isn't working, and the icons are still grey. Though I can sync with Google services just fine.

Gallery help

For whatever reason pictures from picasa are showing up in my gallery and I have never used picasa and it won't let me delete them. They constantly show in my gallery and I can't get them out...
Any suggestions? Thanks

I somehow managed this one as well.
Would hope for a more useful reply.
I tried toggling sync under my google account and rebooting and such and even tried manually searching for the pictures internally in my phone.
Fortunately, I made a non-related nandroid like 40 minutes earlier before applying a framework mod.
Reverted and reapplied to get back to where I was.
All I did to get the stubborn buggars to show up in the first place was click the "refresh" option in gallery.

i think the pics come from google+ (at least in my case)
should be the same pic you see in google+ / photo
so..or u uninstall google+, or remove all the pics in google+, or you have to live with the pics in ur gallery as i do
1. Disable sync for google photos under account & sync
2. Go to apps > Gallery
3. Force stop then clear data
If you enable google photo sync accidentally, the picasa album will show up in gallery again. Just repeat the steps above to remove it.
Lastly, use search next time. This question has been asked gazillion times.

If you have google+ installed and the albums are showing up again, clear data for G+ too.
They need to patch this coz it shouldn't be so troublesome.

GPS Issue

Does anyone have a solution to fixing a broken GPS? It just keeps searching for a location but doesn't pick up anything
Very frustrating because that's what I mainly use my phone for. It just started doing this after I upgraded to 4.2 yesterday. I dropped my phone yesterday also so I don't know which one is the cause for my GPS issue. Thnx
Try one of the gps toolbox apps to calibrate and fix the agps data. Or try FasterGPS, which I think needs busybox, to set your location.

I had this same problem with connecting to google play. Here are the steps, goto apps, scroll tap 'ALL' apps, then:
Delete data on Google Services Framework
Delete data on Google Play Store
Sync your contacts
Delete your google account completely
then add your google account back in and sync your contacts
this will get you to back connected into google play store.
For GPS, go back into ACCOUNTS and click on google.
this is what I did, not sure the effects, but navigation now works:
Location -->turn ON (let google apps access your location)
Off course all my location settings was already turned on, but here's somewhere/something else that needs done.
I hope this helps...

[Q] Can't get Google Photos on the LG G4

Anyone know how to get Photos to work on the LG G4? I can bring up Photos on the computer. Other Google apps work fine on the phone but when I try to access Photos it first asks me to sign in and then either continually says "this account already exists on your device". or say can't connect to server try again later. Of course the account already exists on the device. Otherwise I'd be creating a new account, not signing in with an old one. I've tried erasing cache and data in the Photos app and stopping the app. I've also tried removing my Google account on the phone and then re-enabling it. Nothing seems to work. I've noticed others with other new phones have had the same problem but no solutions have been found.
Google Photos, just works fine here on my LG G4 H818N. No issues, so far.
A reboot evidently all that was needed. Working fine now.
Ha! A reboot fixes most things.. and if not, factory reset! Seems to be a common trend with our phones. I would have suggested to clear data and cache from the app menu -> google photos, however.
I had this issue too. I tried all of the above for two day, nothing worked. Today, everything is fine.
I was able to log in without issues but I couldn't search for photos. There was simply no search button or search option like in all the screenshots. Was super confused

Google photos app crashes all the time on open

Son got a S9 for Xmas. However on opening Google Photos it just crashes instantly. Can't open it at all. This is a standard UK S9. Pretty disappointing on a inbuilt app doing this from out of the box.
It seems to be a very common issue looking on web. Is this a Samsung problem or a Google, or Amdroid problem? and is there a fix yet anywhere?
Thanks

See if the Play Store has any updates available for it. Maybe its been fixed by Google. If not I'd guess maybe clearing the cache/data of the Google Photos app might help. If you press and hold on an app there should popup an option with "app info". From there there should be a storage option and once selected it should list how much storage is being used as cache and data. Try clearing the cache first and see if that fixes it. If not go for the clear data option.
Yeh tried all that. All up to date, tried restarting, clear cache etc. Looks like a wide ranging problem as well. Very frustrating, open brand new phone out of box and get this have to say, not impressed so far with Android.

Have you updated Android itself? Probably a couple of updates behind out of the box
Plus Android Pie is available for certain regions now, could always update to that using ODIN
I would also try factory resetting the phone if nothing else works
Also if you go to the apps info page and hit the 3 dots top right menu, there should be an uninstall updates button, it will revert back to the factory installed version of the app
Are you using Swift Installer?

Don't bother using Google photos especially to back up motion photos if your using that on the phone as it doesn't back them up properly and when restoring just gives back a normal photo just use the samsung gallery app until the photos app is working again.
