In some of the reviews the ambient clock looks like the hour number is red, while the rest of the time is in white.
on my model it's always white when I lift to wake.
Is there a way to change this?
When the hour begins with one or is one (e.g. 1am, 11am, 12am, 12pm) the "1" will be in Red - I assume to signify the phone is a "One"plus.
I seriously hope someone can come up with an Xposed module to change this atrocity
Unfortunately I don't know enough about android (yet) to do it myself...
resell it and buy a samsung

Hello everyone.
First of all I'd like to state that I'm a massive noob on this forum, so if I'm being stupid for not finding a thread about this subject yet, please refer me to it. My apologies.
I've recently bought my LG G3 like 2 months ago. Now, I'm the type of person that likes perfection, so I've already tweaked my phone to the max (without 'hacking' into the system though), for as far as I'm concerned.
I was wondering if any of you know an app or trick to always show a digital clock on the screen, even when it's locked (untouched). I've read on forums that a lot of people complain about battery draining owing to the latter. Though I'm searching for just a tiny, dimmed clock on top of my screen so I can always look up the time without even tapping the screen. My logics tell me that those few pixels used will never really benefit to massive battery draining, and even if it would, I'm still curious whether it's possible yes or no.
I've tried the NoLED app. But like most apps, this is just another Daydream tweaker, which obviously is not what I'm looking for.
So in conclusion, I'm looking for a tiny little clock destined for the top of my screen, always visible, dimmed (to save battery life), not in the way Daydream does (since this leaves the entire screen on [draining more battery life than my idea IMO]).
Anyone know a trick, app or tweak to achieve this?
Thanks in advance!!
Jurjen
With the LCD screen on the G3 (and most other phones), you can't really do what you want. Whenever the screen is on, the backlight is turned on for the entire screen. So even if the clock only takes a tiny bit of screen, the backlight will use the same amount of power as if the clock took the whole screen.
Only OLED screens, as used on Samsung, Moto, and the Nexus 6 allow the device to light only specific pixels.
I own a Galaxy S9 (Unlocked, US version). and I was wondering if a dark theme instead of the default would help my battery life and/or my screen longevity? Currently I'm trying out the "Black Onix" theme from the Themes store. I like it but it has some buggy problems. I also like the default theme but some people have said that using a dark theme would cause uneven screen wear and also that a dark theme would cause burn in more than using the default.
Am I safe just using the default theme?
A dark theme will help conserve battery, but it's unlikely that you'd notice the difference in day to day use.
As for the burn in, it's happening (very slowly) all of the time. It happens more quickly when you have bright colors in a stationary position, which is one reason why they have the status bar changing colors in different apps. If you use one app a lot (like Waze for commuting) the orange hazard button will burn in pretty quickly, because it's always in the same spot and is bright.

Do you think that just leaving it on the default theme is alright?
I always use a dark theme but I don't think it saves much battery.
The stock samsung theme is absolutely hideous though so i get rid of it fast lol
sent from my Pixel 2 XL or Note FE
A BLACK theme will save some battery. A dark theme (e.g., gray) still lights up all the pixels, just not as brightly. A true black background turns those pixels off.
Or you can go with a really nice Translucent Substratum theme like this.
I got a long screen time on a new S9 using
● About 25 to 30% brightness
● Negative colors which I like because they are white on black probably save power far fewer pixels.
● Edge lighting off
● Sync only every three or 4 hours
● Location off unless I GPS
I had 2 to 4 bars of LTE all day lost signal due to sim problem for 1 hour then fine.
I think unlocked phones can tend to jump bands for no reason or because they have no VOLTE- ,this is on LTE for voice and data.
Also the battery management function is great for putting Apps to sleep and limiting background APPs.

This ^^
Only a "True" black will conserve battery, even if is it one shade lighter than true black, it will still use power, Super AMOLED screens like on the S9 turn the pixels off completely to show true black colours, turning pixels off = that part of the screen is not using any power, but if that theme or wallpaper is even a slight shade lighter than true black, it will still use the same power as a white colour would, off is off, on is on no matter what colour

I get about the same SoT without doing any of that, my average with 50% battery left is around 3-3.5h, so double that for 100% battery you're looking around 6-7 hours SoT
I thought I read of an app or a hack that allowed for the adjustment of the resolution in such a way that it turned of a portion of the pixels throughout the display and thus reducing power consumption. Does this sound right?
Hey guys, got the phone for a few days.
already got burn ins from whatsapp. the white textbox is two times burned in (keyboard/without)
if u open up a dark grey picture u might see it as well.
just have seen it by an accident when opening "simple gallery", its base backround color was grey, so i found the burn ins.
i am not sure if all displays are affected by the burn ins, i will return mine :/
oh no. can u install aida 64, click on display, whats the panel id.
I've been using mine for almost 1 month and I have no image retention (btw it's image retention, it goes away . Only amoled's burn -in)
tianma td 4310.

I got the tianma td4310 as well.
Thx for your answere. This morning it was a way better. I know that only amoleds were known for burn-ins. so yeah, seems like it´s only "image retention", anyways for just a few days usage i am pretty disappointed.
will keep the phone for now and hope that it´s not getting worse

Are you on MIUI or some custom rom?
If you are on a custom rom, go to display and then to live display and then to colors and from 100% go to 95% to all of them. This happened to tianma panels on Redmi Note 4 too on custom roms.
This also happens to every LG since G4. Low-quality LCD Panels.
There is nothing wrong with your phone , you can rest assured.

atm RR, so far the best rom i guess. but still the only one i tried. had the RMN4 as well, but never issues with the display (except yellow spot, soon warranty/repair)
i just hope for some aosp roms in the future like AEX and custom kernels
but atm the phone is pretty new on the market and we need to wait a little bit
Yeah, it would be nice to have selection of different ROMs.
Can someone post a picture of burn-in...

actually it´s image retention, not a burn in. so it´s not good, but it seems to be okay.
i am not able to take a photo, cuz u would need a better camera for it.
i guess it depends on the apps that u use and how often.
if u want to see if u got it as well, you could try to download a simple grey picture.
for me grey/dark grey worked good to check it. then open it in fullscreen. u might see the buttons from the navbar slightly.
i´ve been using whatsapp a lot the last few hours, so i could see the white textbox.
atm i am on RR and i recently found out that u barely get max brightness on autobrightnes maxed out. after using max brightness (manual) it seemed to be better. dunno why may be on max brightnes, the pixel get "reset" better. i don´t know.
all in all. it´s okay for me and i guess if u got it, u can recalibrate it.
I installed aida 64 from playstore but I don´t get any panel info in "display"... where do you guys find that Info about panel manufacturer?
Everything is going to be alright. It's just a low-quality screen, nothing can be done except:
Go to display, live display, color tweak and tweak the colors. From 100% go to 95% and voila, everything is going to be normal. Tinama screens are pretty bad, you can go to the redmi note 4 forum and then look for image retention. There are a lot of topics about that and it seems that only tinama screens are affected.
tl;dr: nothing to be worried about. You probably wont have problems on MIUI because the screen is calibrated

Completely false, I have official MIUI 9.5.6.0, I have the phone for 2 days, it created image retention like crazy, god fing damn i didnt expect xiaomi to have such **** panels, so disappointed
@Kusie
Open Xiaomi dialer app and type *#*#6484#*#* and click "software version"
Tianma 4310 display as well. 7 days of usage. 22,75hr + of total SOT. Auto-brightness enabled. Contrast mode : high. Colours mode : standard. Mainly using tatatalk with night mode anabled , XDA labs with dark there as well and SimplePro for FB with white theme. Google keybord green theme. At late night hours auto-reading mode kicks in (100% set)
No image retention/tiny and barely visible navigation bar (or it's just placeboo).
Interesting. Some people here with the same panel face instant burn ins and some don't...
It has to be connected with color schemes of apps, which you are using or brightness levels, which you are mainly on
Sent from my whyred using XDA Labs
I saw image retention the first day I got the phone. Changed the color settings to cold (MIUI) and no problem since then.

And why should we be forced to use ugly Cold mode? We lose color accuracy just by doing that, along with the screen having an unnatural blue hue which is also bad for the eyes, I want color accuracy not a screen looking like it's frosted
Hi,
i am on "Linageos 15.1" and today i saw that the color of the screen went to dirty. Before i had very good color representation and now it is like gray, no saturation, no big hue.
While rebooting the phone i saw the last Apps i was running. I can see the Statusbar while i am on bootloader-animation.
My phone runs for about 1,5 months and this issue appeared immediately from one second to another.
So there is no solution to get the display working as it should?
So i have to buy a new phone?
I got a replacement device b/c of the image retention. The display manufacturer is not Tianma anymore but Shenchao. The model number stays the same.
I've noticed in the last few days if it's sunny out when using the phone outside the phone puts the brightness up to MAX and I get green, yellow lines all across the screen. If I manually lower the brightness a little it's all ok again. I imported the AL00.. I'm guessing Huawei won't fix it as it's an import... Anyone got any ideas?

No ideas but I noticed the lines too. It was a really bright sunny day and snow around. The stripes could be seen on the white screen only. It came as a huge surprise cause I haven't noticed any other screen error or malfunction. And screen test passed without any problem.
Same for me.. Only outside and with majority of screen being white. Normally they show up when unlocking and dissapear after a second or so, I think when I start to scroll or similar.. no one else?
It's one of the oled downsides. Check it with 5% grey picture or search on youtube to 5% or 10% grey test.

The first screen in that topic is what I have too on my Mate20X. It's a gamble. If you return it and swap it, you may get a worse unit.
Hi all,
There are a couple of apps out there that create a notification light using the always-on-display and allows for a lot of customization - location, colors, sizes, duration, etc.
A lot of information on battery drain is provided by these apps, but no info about the danger of screen burn-in. Does anyone know how something like this might affect the screen? Let's say, if a certain area of the screen is blinking once every 3 seconds - typically with different colors - would that create a problem in the future for the screen? If the screen has a significant amount of screen burn-in before a year is up, is that something typically covered by warranty? Edit: confirmed from Samsung that screen burn-in is covered by warranty, for the standard one year warranty period. Yay!
Thank you!
How long do you let a phone sit before you answer the notification? 5 minutes, 1 hour, whole day?

I haven't implemented this yet, so I'm trying to decide on all of these factors based on what the implications may be with the screen. I certainly won't have the "light" on indefinitely - I suppose a short blink every couple of seconds would be the most ideal. Preference would be for the whole day, but it's probably more practical that it would be for an hour or so.
