First post here looks like a great site . I have done some reading but could not find what i was looking for so I'm asking for a little assistance.
Came home today and my Fire TV was dead it would not power on i have tried leaving it unplugged for 20 mins, moved to new outlet in house and nothing is working. Is there any way i can communicate with my Fire TV or is she just a paper weight now?
Thanks

There seems to be a loose connection on the USB, previously the cable had to be propped up to allow the kindle to charge. Now it will no longer charge.
I have tried several chargers, none of which will work on the Kindle Fire but do on my mobile phone.
It has the ModaCo rom on it so I can't send it back to retailer for replacement and the battery does not have enough power remaining to put on stock rom.
Does anybody have any suggestions for what I can do?

I'm not familiar with ModaCo, is it an ICS rom? Some ROM's don't properly display when the battery is charging. My advice is to plug it into the wall, prop the cord as best you can (I'm all too familiar with this trick), and let it go for at least an hour or two, charging like this can be slow. If all else fails, possibly get a replacement cord specifically for the KF. Also, search elsewhere online, this seems to be a common problem.
I'm based in UK so it's not actually available here to sell.
The Modaco rom is the same as the Kindle Fire rom except that it has Google Play enabled. I chose to do this because I can not purchase from Amazon's app store in the UK.
The tablet switches off as soon as it is unlocked because there is barely any battery power left.
I can not charge or connect it to the laptop to transfer files. I guess I'll have to keep trying
Hi all,
Some time ago i rooted my girlfriend's KF. It's running the FFF 1.4a and TWRP.
A couple of weeks ago she complained that the kindle wasn't being charged anymore. The result was that the Kindle was dead and after pressing the power button it appeared "Charling low battery - Please wait".
I tried every single procedure that i found here: pressing the power button for 30 secs, the Kindle Fire Unbrick Utility with the shorting trick, the SoupKit...
I managed to boot in TWRP and charge the KF there. Now i have 100% battery.
I boot system normally but the Kindle continues to don't charge normally and it doesn't even recognize that the USB cable is on.
The cable is OK (works in my Xperia Play). I already tried another cables. I already tried to charge via the stock wall charger.
Is it possible to be a software issue? I'm starting to think that the conector is broken/damaged.
I will flash another ROM to see if it's this the problem (I'm currently running CM9)

Flashing anything other than CM9 would be a good idea

Ok. I'll try that and will post the result
No good... At first boot after installation of new ROM, windows recognized the device, tried to install drivers but very quickly it stopped to recognize...
Now it's charging, but only with the cable inserted in a very particular position.
I'm completely clueless about what to do....
what about connected to the wall? same connection problem? then you have a bad connector. use soupkit and flash stock, and return to Amazon for a replacement. or open the case up and solder the power connector back on,

With the wall charger I don't get any charging. Do they send another Kindle overseas (I live in Brazil)? I think it's a connector problem...

I don't know. You would have to talk to an Amazon representative.

I got a Kindle Fire at a garage sale. I want to know what version it is before I go any farther. I replaced the battery with one that had 100% charge ( held the power button for 30 seconds before plugging in ) But it still wont boot.
Can I identify what generation it is by the motherboard? The Model number is 31KC1MB00E0. Does anyone know if it is a 1st or 2nd gen.
Thanks

if you look to the left of the battery connection on the board and there is a port soldered there for the light sensor, then its a version 1, if there isn't a socket soldered there and just the pads then its a version 2...
Are you meaning where the small ribbon cable connects?
hi i got this kindle off my friend i think its hard bricked not sure what he done, what happend is power light comes on and kindle fire logo then powers off, windows see's nothing. kindle fire logo seems to be yellow. so assuming its not rooted. just would like to know what type of brick this is and how to ge out of it if possible
Doesn't sound hard bricked, I would hook it up to a fastboot cable to see if it will enter fastboot mode, though the bootloader seems to be acting odd(unless it's a low battery but I think it would flash a low battery symbol on the screen instead of kindle fire).

yeah it has power as it will do the same when unplugged. So to make a fast boot cable solder 1 to four is that right?
Yes that's pretty much all there is to it, though the cable has to kinda have the contact point for what I think is pin 4, because its not usually used so not all cables have a contact point for it on the little PCB.

Yeah just popped one open and has four so red to white? Also could you direct me to the thread to what to do once I have created one
ok done cable plugged in still doing same thing???
That's not what pin 4 is, pin 4 has no wire coming from it, there's a guide that tells about this around here somewhere, look in this thread for a link at Q20. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228539

sweet found it thanks for your help device is in fast boot with like traffic lights
I bought the Fire stick initially to use with Kodi, which it currently is running. But I have noticed that the stick can get very slow, laggy, when navigating the fire home menu or playing games.
Even if kodi is closed there is a noticeable issue here, but i have no idea how to fix it, even if it can be fixed.
I have noticed with the sticks that sometimes they work like a champ, and other times they get really laggy. I finally just said screw it, and sold the sticks, and just went to all "boxes". That said, the FTV stick is an incredible value for what you get for the money. But if you are a heavy user, you may want to pop for the box.
If you have it plugged into a USB port on your TV or into a surge protector, change that and plug it directly into a wall outlet or a standard extension cord.

Interesting. I understand the TV seeing as it could have less current going to it and people have reported it not being capable of updating when plugged into the tv, but what would surge protector change?
I bought two sticks at different times and set them both up plugged directly into the wall, everything was fast and worked well. Then when I installed them on the TVs I bought them for, I plugged them both into surge protectors and the performance was much slower and not at all what I had seen before. I then plugged one directly into the wall and the other into a standard extension cord and both were back to the fast performance I had originally seen.
My completely unsupported speculation is that the Stick at times pulls a spike of current that surge protectors are specifically designed to prevent, so it either can't do specific operations quickly or, because it now "knows" it can't draw the spike of current, it limits itself to a lower current draw and in general operates more slowly.
The device needs a stable voltage (5v in this case as it is a USB powered device). If the voltage was to drop the stick would power off / crash.
If you feel that it's not getting enough power then it's possible that it's not getting enough amperage. For example computer USB 2 ports are limited to 500ma (which is why phones charge slower from a computer than the wall charger) what might be happening is the USB power adapter you are using doesn't provide the amperage needed for the device.
Are you using the Amazon provided adapter? Is it getting unusually hot?
Do you have any other USB power adapters that put out a higher amperage?
It's very slow in response. And using KODI, you might as well forget about it. My first one was so slow, I called amazon to complain. They sent me a replacement. That did the same. So they both got returned. Darn shame as I like KODI, using Exodus. Constant freeze up. The processor just can't handle it.
I went back to my ROKU, and just order my movies from Redbox.......
Check to see if your router has 2 channels
Changing the power supply didn't work for me. What I figured is since there is network trouble, maybe there was a connection issue. My router has the option of 2.4 ghz signal or 5. I chose 2.4 for my firestick because my smart home is on that channel. I switched up to 5ghz which has the same password and my stick was back to working flawlessly and it actually didn't make a difference when telling the remote to turn on the lights.
