Worthy upgrade? - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

I have the Moto Z Play currently which I've been using for about 8 months and I need to upgrade to a proper 2017 flagship. Being a former OP owner I think the 5T is a no brainer choice. I know OnePlus will support it till Android P. Just wanna be reassured I'm making the right choice. Also it's costing me around 18-20k(~292$) in India after selling off my existing phone.

I actually have a Moto z play as well... Thinking about picking up the 5t...I LOVE the battery life on the Moto z play especially with my work schedule. I will have to sell my Moto z play and break about even for what I owe on it and then just pay cash for the 5t

Do it and don't look back. The battery life is pretty good albeit not as good as the Z Play.
However it's an upgrade but probably not a huge one.

[Q] Z or SP for S?

Hello guys,
after the long wait for Jelly bean on my Xperia S ive had enough of that phone. It lags a lot in the Homescreen, its slow very often, the walkman random pauses, its sluggish and the support is as good as dead. So now im Thinking of buying a new phone in mid Juli. So my question is: What phone do you think i should get? Ive got my eye on the Z and the SP. I know SP is only a midrange phone, but I completely love the design of it. The Z is more expensive, but probably the better phone. I like Sony a lot, because of the general design and the UI. I wont even start about the support because,... well you know.. And im begging you, no Samsung suggestions )

might as well go all out and buy the Z. Its flagship status pretty much guarantees it will be first in line for updates (at least for this year, cant say anything bout next year). better specs and great design, plus water(Proof/resistant).
Yeah I thought so.. I just hope Sony fixes everything in Jelly Bean..
noo!! i refer you to uy SP i know Z is better in everything than sp but SP is simple and just like the S u can use it with 1 hand and its battery life is incredible than the Z so i refer you to go with SP

+1 me to the xperia sp is my next phone
If you are going to spend your bucks on Xperia Z range phones, I would suggest you to buy the HTC One...
Don't buy the SP, it's a mid - range non flagship phone - - - - - SO FORGET ABOUT LONG TERM SUPPORT(Look how Sony is treating their last year flagship XS, so SP will suck big time in terms of support from Sony)..
Yeah the xperia S is almost dead to Sony, thats the only thing ( except the the bugs) that i really hate about this phone..
Don't think and just go for Z. It has amazing support from Sony and should even have long term support. I think that it even has good developer support on XDA, No need to say anything about the performance. I can easily run any game or app without a single lag on my XZ. There is enough ram to anything that you want. Around 1-1.2 GB free ram is perfect for all user apps. XZ and SP are not comparable. If money doesn't matter to you, just go for a XZ. Believe me, you won't regret it.

Yeah HTC One is better in my opinion (even though I'm a total Sony fan). It's chipset and display is top-notch. Battery life is also better than Z.
HTC One - over 10 hours of video playback, almost 10 hrs of web browsing and 13 hrs of 3G talk time
Xperia Z - 5 and a half hour of video playback, 6 and a half hour of web browsing, 16 hrs of 3G talk time.
(source: GSMArena's battery tests)
Despite its 4MP Ultrapixel camera...HTC is trying to provide continuous software updates to provide better camera quality and improvements.

That was one of the bigger dilemmas i was facing HTC one or z.. I just dont really like the ui htc provides and i simply love all the things sony adds to the roms.. The walkman app for instance. It is by far the best music app

And when that happens the next flagship rumours will start to pop and someone will say: "Wait for next flagship". You can't wait for the best around the corner, because there will always be one"
Yeah, thats what I was thinking.. Lets just hope the JB for Xperia S really fixes everything
Leaving my own personal rants on Sony's software support out of it; i too am in the same boat currently owning an Ion.
As far as the big Android phones for 2013, this is all i've noticed so far...still have plenty of time to figure it out before my upgrade, and i'm hoping i'm happy enough with JB to just wait it out until next year.
Sony Xperia Z/ZL: by far the absolute best physical design i've seen so far in a phone. 5" screen freaked me out at first, but its barely bigger than my Ion, just much more screen. I haven't held a ZL yet, but the Z is pretty incredible if you haven't seen it in person yet. At the same time, its a big 'who knows' on its support. Going by 2012, it'll get one update late summer...then barely ever get mentioned again...Soon after 18 more phones will be available, and Sony will continue having no realistic way of supporting devices they already sold.
HTC One: Good design overall. Most are reporting its very durable, good for me as i love dropping things that are expensive. Not sure about all that layered UI stuff they're up to yet though. Only bad thing for me would be the lack of SD card support.
Samsung Galaxy S4: By far the most popular choice, creating a community of users that rivals Apple, and the support that comes with it. Too bad, though, it looks like a toy. I wouldn't be surprised if the box included a Sesame Street DVD.
for all the above reasons, i'd be very happy just waiting it out and seeing what 2014 brings. maybe sony will turn it around company wise, maybe not. But i still think the Z is too early in this mess for it not to share the EXACT same fate as last years flagship.

Unfortunately, the midranger like XP are getting JB 1st before XS. Not to mention XS got ICS latter than 2011 devices.
The thing is the cost of XZ or HTC ONE is twice the price of XSP.

Yes, of course those phones cost twice as much as the XS. But lets face it, the XS has horrible support and an extremley buggy ICS.. Why do you guys think the HTC one is so much better? It probably is a bit better, but id really like to know why. Andthe Z is now already available for 500€ which is a lot less than the HTC

Looking to buy Moto Z Play. PLease help out with some queries.

Hi everyone,
I am looking to buy a new phone here in India and I am looking for a phone which will last me atleast 18-20 months from say January, 2017. I loved the battery stats of Moto Z PLay and since I dont game much on the phone apart from normal games and a Dead Trigger here and there, my priority is will the Snapdragon 625 processor be able to handle the upcoming apps and will its battery stay the same (approx) after 2 years or so.
I am a moderate user with social media, whats app and a bit of high net usage on wi-fi. Should I go for this or spend sme bucks more and buy OP3 or OP3T?
Thanks in advance!!!
:good: :good:
I was having the same debate - moto z play vs OP3T. I don't game at all, so the battery life + expandable storage trumps the top end performance and slightly better camera for me. Don't have it yet, but ordered a Z play yesterday. I'm seeing some pretty impressive battery numbers reported on the OP3T as well, so it's no slouch - solid for one day of heavy use
Dev support seems to be at about the same level on both devices at the moment, though if I had to guess, the OP3T will probably win out there in the end - only because in my experience most devs tend to purchase devices with higher end specs.
I've never been a big gamer but in normal everyday use the Z play is faster and smoother than my past few nexus phones. After using the phone for a few weeks the last thing I'm worried about is performance. Dropping it before I get a case is my biggest concern. Get a case or a bumper for this one
I would say go for the Z Play. I have had mine for over a month and it has truly impressed me. I have thought about exchanging for the regular Z but it's insane battery is not worth the extra performance I won't notice. The thing that impressed me most was even though I use it for intense games I have never noticed it struggle. It's mainly because the Z is such a well optimized phone. I think you will be very happy with your purchase.
Best regards

first things I do after buying new phone is case and screen protector. My current Xperia Z2 fell screen down, flat from a height of 4 and half feet and my heart stopped. Picked it up, nothing happened thanks to glass screen protector.
Anyways, the dual sim and sd card option is very attractive and though I wont even fill up the 64GB in OP3T, the spare parts avaialbility and after sale support of OP is dreadful. Till now, the lord of smartphones has been kind enough to keep me away from repair centers, but if it happens on OP, i will keep the phone (if I buy it) as a memento of the stupid decision to buy the damn phone.!!
@RealiZms... thanks a lot for the reply and help..

If it gives me even 3/4th the battery life and performance after 20 months times (talking abt the Z Play), I will be very happy. I was looking to buy the Moto G4 Plus, but the heating and ghost touch issues put me off. Will be going to check the handset out in a couple of days and will order it during the Christmas/New Year sale on Amazon or Flipkart (Local Indian e-commerce site).
The only thing keeping me from splurging on OP3/3T is the horror stories of after sales service. The lack of spare parts and other things have kept me away from buying even the OP2. Hope my choice of Z Play doesnt dissapoint me.
thanks for your reply and help, mate. :good: :good:
Good day bros.
I was asking the exact same question for the past week. Got rid of my Mi 5 due to its inability to make the NFC transit card work. Non-gamer mostly social media, surfing on my phone use. Was tempted by the great 'bang for the buck' offered by 3T, but I got the Z play in the end because, among other things, the one and only oneplus service centre in my country has closed down.
Not regretting it. No need to root, etc, everything NFC transport sim, fingerprint login with bank apps, Android Pay, it all just works. No hardcore gaming but regular apps work. No annoying china brand UI to deal with.
Oh and the battery life. Insane. I didn't even bring my USB-C wire to the office
Tried the Moto G Plus and returned it due to inadequate performance and ghost touch. Tried the Pixel XL but returned it because overpriced and not perfect. Tried the Moto Z Play and love it. Surprisingly haven't noticed any performance issues aside from the mediocre camera. The UI is very snappy. However the battery will change your life.
I got indian version of z play and let me tell ya, i play in it like a desktop (hardcore) and it gives me 8-9 hour battery. I download 80+GB from wifi each month. Its been 2 month i guess. I think Moto Z Play is the best smartphone within 30000₹ including future considerations.
I'm coming from an LG G3. Loved that phone, but tonight, it just died right in the middle of my using it. It's two years old and JUST went off contract. Took the latest update a few weeks ago and then my SD Card slot started acting flaky. So, I'm thinking this is all part of hardware failure and maybe the SD slot not working was the first sign.
Gaming wise, the G3 was awesome. I play games like Walking Dead No Man's Land, Game of War, Clash of Clans, and I do have games purchases like the GTA games. Does anyone have any idea how well this phone would work with those games? I can get this from VZW for $17/month which is cheaper than what my G3 was on the old contract ($40/month). Of course, after this month, my bill WOULD have dropped $20/month when the phone went off contract. Makes me wonder if VZW did this? lol
In any case, I've read reviews and even though the camera is 16mp as opposed to the 13mp I had on the G3, it sounds like the camera is the typical old Moto camera that ISN'T the best. But, I'm not a proffesional photographer. if it's good for just taking normal family pictures, etc, that's all I care.
Battery life is the big thing. I could get the G3 to last over a day with normal talk and text. But I also game, so I suck the life out the battery pretty quickly.
Any help you can provide if this would be a good replacement will be much appreciated. I've been with XDA for over 5 years ever since I got my first Android phone.
Thanks and I might be joining the family here if I do get this phone.
UPDATE: Starting today, VZW is having the Moto Z, Samsung Galaxy S7 and Google Pixel for $10/month with NO trade-in. So it looks like I'll be getting one of those. Just found out today while looking on their website.

I actually dont use the camera much apart from clicking pics at family functions or outings. I dnt think I have even taken a selfie. the camera on Xperia Z2 was great, not only in terms of specs (21 mp and all), but the pics came out great. but if Moto Z Play's camera does what I have read, its adequate for me. If needed will buy a second hand DSLR.

if it performs the way you said, I might have made a good decision in ordering Moto Z PLay from Flipkart. Only mistake I made was ordering the white one, when I wanted a black one. Well, same thing!!
Hi everyone who helped me in making this decision. I have ordered a Moto Z PLay (white....by mistake ) from Flipkart (indian e-commerce site).
I exchanged it for my old Xperia Z2 and got it for 15k INR or around 230 USD along with all discounts with credit cards and everything. will be delivered on boxing day and thankfully will be able to update on it in next few weeks.

Few Moto z play brought from it are missing its nano coating, had scratches, defective parts etc etc. That's why I brought from Amazon. Even review on z play in Flipkart is bad.

I got an LG 65" smart TV, a 55" Samsung smart TV and 52" Vizio Smart TV, MirrorLink to smart TV is not working with any of them. However you can use an application named AllCast from play store (it's a paid application, the free one gives you only 5 minutes of transmission time for free), with that application you will be able to mirror videos, pictures, power points, etc to the smart TV. You can't mirror the entire content from your phone to the smart TV, but that is good enough for me.

Is OP3 still worth it

Hello everyone,
I'm on the fence of changing my Nexus 6, and have been eyeing the Moto Z Play for a long time, until I saw that OnePlus 3 was pretty decent priced with good specs. Is it still worth buying it? Would love to get some input for battery from you guys.
Yes. Worth it. My OP3 from last June is still going strong. Battery still holds up all day with 3 and some change SOT most days. Strong dev community. OnePlus has promised O. I say get it.
Yes, I'm still happy with mine. If you don't mind buying used, 3 is available from 350, 3t from 400, on the usual sources (not sure if we can post marketplaces).
Big advantage of used is that you won't be waiting for in Stock and ship from China.
3t resale should be decent at that price, even after 5 comes out, given the estimated cost of 5, in case you don't like it.
I'd definitely buy the OP3 or the OP3T again if i needed a phone today - great performance, great battery life (slightly better on OP3T), quick SW and security updates, great dev community
Op3 is worthier than moto z play definitely
I would recommend just getting the op3t new since they don't sell the op3 anymore brand new. I like buying my phones new for the warranty.
OP5 is out soon so maybe it's worth hanging on for that.
If you don't want to pay that much then I'd say the OP3 is definitely worth it. I went from a Nexus 6P to an OP3 and don't regret my decision at all.
Maybe wait for the OP5 to come out, because loads of people will sell their used OP3 then
Obviously it's worth it, it's barely a year old phone and very capable.
Wait for oneplus5 it's just weeks away and the price is the same
On OnePlus site you can't buy 3.
3T it's 439 $.
In about 2 weeks OnePlus 5 will be out.
Motorola Moto Z it's fine phone, but OnePlus 3 it's better.
I would highly recommend the OnePlus 3T even now.
Go blindly for it.
But I do recommend to buy as soon as the OP5 comes out as then loads of used 3T would be available.

Is it too late to buy Moto Z Play?

Coming from Moto X Pure Edition, my battery is dying and I am shopping for a new phone. Heard Moto Z Play got great battery life with the 3500mah battery. But now Moto Z2 Play is about to be released, but they cut the battery down to 3000mah... I want a phone with decent camera (especially in low light), and good battery life. Is it too late to buy Moto Z Play? It's $400 dollar, vs new Z2 Play probably a couple more hundreds?
Z2 play costs just 35 more than the first generation.
I have seen video of battery test of z2 play and was insane Just Like Our Z Play.
Also, Z2 play camera is way much better then the first generation in taking photos in low light.
So i think you should go for Z2 play which will take just 35$ more from your pocket!

It depends on the prices you can find... I bought the Z play in excellent refurbished condition for $200 dollars LESS than a new Z2 play.
The Z2 will have a better all around camera.
The Z1 will have better battery life.
Screen quality and performance are gonna be mostly the same.
Also keep in mind that the Moto G5 plus has the same camera sensor, battery, ram, and similar processor as the Z2 play. So that may be an option.
My Moto Z Play is coming this Thursday! I love the insane battery life everyone is getting. Two days battery with about 10 to 12 hours of SOT is sweet!
Check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gLJ1jD7QFQ
Or this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmfHi7uibik
I just picked one up from Best buy for 144 via 6 dollar a month payment plan. I read the new ones probably won't have the same battery life.
Moto should just keep the same battery capacity in the new Z2. Then will be the killing device. Now is meh, some things are (slightly) better, some the same, battery worse.

Yeah.. I'm not convinced the z2 play is a real upgrade for a second iteration.. Especially with that smaller battery.
Happy they choose the 626 though. I really like this processor.
If you do get the z2 play, please name it Stitch. Or Experiment 626. ???

I don't know about Indian market, but I'm expecting $450-500(?) for the Z2 Play here in the US, that's pretty expensive for a midrange phone with nothing changed from the Z Play except a better camera. After some hesitation between the getting a new Z Play dual sim for $350 or a used Moto Z Verizon for $260, I went with the Z Play. I'll stick with it until the Z2 Play come down in price (or the unlocked Z).

Good decision. I did the same in the week when play was $50 off. Verizon version is not good choice, bloatware, locked bootloader... If is not changed recently.
I received my Moto Z Play yesterday and I am loving it already!
just skip 1 generation!
Currently I'd buy Moto Z Play again. Guess my successor for Z Play will be Moto X4. It probably gets Snapdragon 660 which supports webm in Hardware

what's your next phone after Moto Z Play & why?

Hello guys,
I'd like to know what is your choices for the next phone after Moto Z Play and why you chose that phone?
If you got a new one already, please share your experience with it "pros and cons".
Thanks
Well, it's been a long time since I'm thinking about my next phone. I usually do that long before I actually buy one because I want this decision to be the best possible. Earlier this year I was analyzing Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, but then I realized that the camera and software were not good enough for what I was looking for. After that I considered for a short time iPhone XR but I can't fool myself, iOS it's definitely not for me. Then came a long period of hyped for Google Pixel 3, it has all I searched in a phone, great cameras and great updated software, but it's not officially available in my country Brazil and I decided I will not risk in a 4gb of ram phone. Unfortunately Motorola didn't release lately anything interesting enough for me consider to buy. Now it seems that I'm close to my final decision, it will be a Xiaomi phone, if I decided to change my phone until January it will be the Mi 9. If I wait one month or two perhaps Mi 9 Pro Global version would be available and then I would pick this one. Or maybe if I wait later 2020, perhaps in April I would go for the upcoming Mi 10, who knows. The reason for me to choose Xiaomi's flagship it's the price that I will be paying for a excellent hardware setting, the camera seems fine to me, and I already tested Miui 11 on my MZ Play, I just loved it. Moto z play was a brave man, we spent good times together, but it's almost time to let it go ;(
