For now 3 phones appeal my eyes . Will look how it goes with price near holidays / black friday
Moto X Play : lots of +++ , 2 -- : problems with big lag in chrome / twitter app ( hope is software and will be fixed ) . Screen 5.5 is little big
Nexus 5x : 2 --- no dual sim, low battery
Lumia 950 : 1 big - : PRICE !!!

I was hoping the S6 mini would be released by now, but not even sure they are gonna release one.... There's loads of budget Samsung ranges like E and J series plus others. I was maybe thinking Moto G 3rd gen 2gb ram or maybe a LG G3. Like to stick with a good name to get regular updates.

There is no s6 mini. I was looking forward to it. Last month i bought galaxy alpha. With exception of battery life (bad), everything was great with that phone.
I sold it to my friend, so i have been using s4 mini since. Still looking for a sub 5-inch higher midrange phone. Hope we have one soon.
Nexus 5X seems to be dissappointing to some review guys. Terrible audio quality, less than average battery life and occasional UI lag are its problems.

I wouldn't upgrade to Moto G because it's not much better than the S4 mini actually. My sister has an S4 mini, and my mother a Moto G, and the S4 mini with CM12 is not much slower than the moto G 2014. If you really want to upgrade, I'd spend some bucks. Moto X Play is i guess the best phone for casual users who don't want to spend $600 right now. I have upgraded to a Zenfone 2 and I'm loving it, and although it beats the moto X in raw processing power, it has a lot of drawbacks the moto X play doesn't, including worse battery life
Think I may be using the s4 mini for some time to come, with the hope something new comes out that covers all the bases. That or I'm going to be forced to take the 5" plunge and get a S6 when prices drop a bit more... Bah I personally think all these newer phones of 2015 are all lacking in some department and my wallet isn't that deep. Long live the s4 mini...
On the list posted up i forgot to add OnePlus 2 : with some - : price is a little higher, availability, and i am afraid with Os upgrades . For example Oneplus One is still on 5.0 not even on 5.1.1 .

I want to take the phone out of the box, place sims and use the phone. No more kernels, rom modding , custom roms.
That's exactly what I'm after. No offense to devs as they work REALLY hard to bring us new things, but I want a device that is updated regularly by the phone manufacturer themselves. Especially security updates. I feel security is always 2nd to looks. Security is No. 1 these days. Android is quite buggy and unless you own the latest and greatest device your most likely open to a lot of security holes. The best for updates are nexus and Moto. Samsung though the biggest concern are SLOW to release updates and if at all in our case.... It's these things that are pushing me away from my favorite company Samsung, and is even making me to think of an iPhone, one pure ecosystem. That and custom roms though usually always faster always have a lot of bugs throughout their history. It's a difficult decision...

Hey! I know, right!
It's been a while indeed. My S4 mini started to get huge random battery drains accompanied by heat and screwing around with different roms, stock firmwares, kernels, and even a brand new battery couldn't solve the issue. I hope that the S4 mini will begin to receive CM13 builds - official or unofficial, as a last treat before it truly becomes an ancient 2013 phone. I just asked arco68 about the matter.
Xaomi MI4 looks good to me. If I can save money, I think I'll buy it.
Btw, @SilviuMik I agree with you. I want to latest and greatest updates without customroms. So maybe I can buy a xperia device. Sonny told to updated latest version of Android their some devices.

I would buy another S4 mini.. I can get them for $140 without subscription (Good thing!) here in Denmark (which is insanely cheap for Danish pricing), and it has one of the best communities ever here on XDA, as far as I can see.
It's definitely gonna be a samsung anyway, because I love Odin, and I wouldn't even dream about flashing another HTC. I own a Macbook, and I flashed an old HTC Desire yesterday, man it was ugly as hell. I ended up installing Windows 7 on an old computer just to get the random crap software working, as 8.1 and 10 didn't work and ... Omg you wouldn't believe how much of a pain in the ass it was! Took literally 11 hours straight with only a couple of lunch breaks. It did end up quite speedy on Android 2.3.1 tho, so it was worth it! I hate throwing old stuff out because of planned software obsolescence and forced upgrades because of (what I personally think is) artificial slowdowns. The phone works just fine, even with a couple of modern apps.
If any of you have any other recommendation for a good phone with lots of ROM's for it (that works just 95% of the time haha, I don't mind reinstalling every 3-4 weeks if I have too, it's not like I don't enjoy it..), I'm more than willing to hear you out! But for now I will stick with my S4 mini til something better comes up. Money isn't that much of an issue, as long as it's sub <$800 as I have a little voice in my head telling me to never spend the entire worth of a Macbook Air on a phone.
What concerns me is the lack of a powerful yet compact smartphone. I want to buy the S6 as prices have dropped slightly.
Also S6 has cm13 rom now.. so in a couple of months we can expect a stable cm13 and other related cm type roms. But battery
life on that phone is a problem. I can use a big phone but it should not have any flaws. Will wait and see if there are any good
phones coming out in next 1-2 months. Till then I will enjoy official CyanogenMod 13 nightlies....

1) Get the Pixel 2 XL - THE camera, Awesome battery life, IN-HOUSE software, though sporting a last-gen 835, not the greatest screen
2) Grab the S9 if it's any good - supposedly great camera (SPECULATION, don't be mad, this is just theory), but everything else? It is Samsung, whose last phone I had was an S3 Neo (crappy software). What do you Think? IF the SGS9 is actually better than the pixel, should I get it? Should I trade good, snappy software, for, well, Samsung experience?
3) Wait until the Pixel 3... - Yeah, I really do not want to have this as an option, but here it is. After all, my Z5 is still holding up nicely and I kinda want the iPhone of the Android world (yes, that's the Pixel)

Security updates, guaranteed project treble and 2 major updates are big selling for me. Plus you know you're going to have one of the best camera this year, and maybe camera keeps improving with updates.
Plus, with the release of pixel 3 and new camera technologies, you might see them ported for the Pixel 2 by some good XDA developers.
I'd only pick the S9 if you like media consumption (a.k.a good screen) or actually like samsung experience.

Fwiw....it's whatever your the most happy with. Wait until the S9 comes out, and go play with them side by side, and see what you like the best. I'm totally happy with my P2XL, love the ability to root and mod all I want. Having said that, my wife's 8+ is a pleasure to look at. The screen is about as good as it gets, although I'm not a fan of the edge display, and the UI, although beautiful to look at, is just not as smooth as mine. Then there's the updates. If that's important to you, then there's no comparison. I really hope this edge display thing goes away soon, I hate it!!! Not to mention, a phone drop at the right angle, and it's off to the repair shop it goes! Happy hunting ??

Yeah, there's the problem - playing with them. I live in Bulgaria, Which means I haven't seen a Pixel 2 Irl and there's nowhere to play around with one. We shall see, the pixel 2 xl is really pulling me in, is it bad that It'll already be superseded when I buy it?

Bulgaria huh...yeah I can see that as potentially problematic! ? Lets face it my friend, it's the tech world. The minute we buy something, it's old news 6 months latter! Good thing is, if you do get the P2XL, you'll have the latest software updates for 3 years! Decisions, decisions, what to do?? I kinda miss the day's of the flip phone being the norm. Decisions were much easier then ?
Well anything Samsung is gonna have laggier Samsung experience and very slow updates

I like getting new features/updates quickly and for a long time and am allergic to TouchWiz from the S3Neo times. Though it might have changed now.
Imo the choice consists of deciding what's most important for you: having the latest available hardware for 12 months or having the latest available software for 2-3 years
Personally I came to the conclusion that I would be happier with a phone that is slightly slower in benchmarks (but still crazy fast in real life usage) and a phone that runs the latest available and closest to "stock Android" version possible.
I have no doubt the S9+ will be a terrific phone, but after many years using Sammy devices I got bored I felt I needed a more "pure" user experience, I never regretted doing the switch
Phones are so fast these days that I don't think there's that much benefits in upgrading every year to have the newest SoC possible. On the other hand choosing the software/user experience that is the best for you makes a big difference in the long run
Go with pixel 2. I haven't even touched my note 8. And I loved that phone

By the time the S9 is out, the Pixel 2XL will be 5-6 months "old" which will still be doing well but the S9 will have the latest and greatest hardware at the time. If vanilla vs skinned isn't a big deal for you, just wait it out for the S9 then. But if you think you're Z5 will do until the fall, then Pixel 3.

I do not know, I've had some pretty bad experiences with TouchWiz before, so I want to taste Android as it was meant to be. Besides, I'll be travelling a lot this summer so I'll need a better phone. I think I might as well go with the 2XL. Next thing, where do I get it? :d With me being in Bulgaria, the only choices are asking relatives to import from the UK/Germany. Are they sold in physical shops (not hooked to network providers though)? I might not get a chance to import it from the States, so I'm stuck with the higher European prices.

Sounds like you are stuck with the European prices. Only available in store through Verizon wireless carrier. Everyone else gets it through the Google Store.

Not only that, the 2 XL is already seeing development, and is new enough, IF the S9 turns out to be something you really want, the 2 XL will still bring a good resale price to apply toward the S9.
I can't imagine anything coming out this year will blow away the 2 XL. The 2 XL is a really great device!

I bought mine on eBay, couldnt wait, came from Ireland with stupid UK plug + adapter, but the seller is a German business
So far no problems, some blue tint that realy doesnt bother me, no burn-in nor bad speakers :good:

What is more important to you - the software or the hardware?
I stayed away from the Googles-devices because of the hardware: No SD card slot, no replaceable battery, the new ones don't have an analog audio output, there are phones with better screens on the market...
But my Samsung Galaxy S4 was the last phone I owned where you could install AOSP-based ROMs and enjoy all the features. the LG G5 would run only with the stock ROM if you wanted to actually use all of its features. LOS-based ROMs were full of bugs and gaps, like bluetooth not working. Also, the device has only a few developers because nowadays developers focus on OnePlus and Google devices.
So I had to flash the LG ROM, then the GApps and then remove all the LG apps.
At the end each upgrade took me an evening and I had still the LG ROM with all of its downsides, stuck at Android 7.0.
With the Pixel 2 XL, i get an update every month. I can install it easily without wasting time. The software is also top notch, for the first time in my life I have an Android phone without feeling the need to install a custom ROM. There is no bloat. The camera is fantastic.
So all in all, the Pixel 2 XL is the best phone I ever owned - for my personal needs.
But if you value e.g. an SD-card slot or an analog audio port higher than the software, go for the Samsung. It's your choice, but I would take the Pixel
I have Galaxy s8 + with Samsung experience 9.0 and I can tell you that isn't not bad at all but...
Faster updates, stock Android, really fast experience when you use it and the camera... My goodness... Google pixel 2 XL it's a beast.
And think that Android P it's arriving very soon and to Samsung maybe next year LOL

i'm contemplating a change of phones. From LG G4 to Motorola Moto Z2 Play because i could get a pretty nice deal on it. I would like to ask the community here for their opinions. I already saw that is has an overall good rating. Questions are, is there anything i should be aware of if i switch? How's the ROM, bloatware wise? Heat issues, battery issues, GPS issues, known problems and so on. LG G4 has a lot of them and im kinda tired of them, although i love the camera and the GPS precision. Any input is welcomed

The ROM is virtually stock Android. There is no bloatware. Just a couple Moto apps that I think are quite useful.
I ahev experienced no heat issues. My previous DD was a Moto X Pure and that joker got hot.
The battery is awesome. I've not ever experienced this kind of life.
I have not had any GPS or other issues.
Some say the camera is not wonderful, but it functions well enough for me. Afterall, I'm more interested in the radio, since it is a phone with a camera, as opposed to a camera with a phone.
Below is my review, stacking it against the Moto X4. I've had it 5 months now and still feel the same. I love it.

I just downgraded (so to speak) from the S8 to the Z2 Play. No regret whatsoever. The only thing I have to get used to is the lower resolution. Other than that, it's a solid mid-range phone (physically as opposed to glass, and as a device) that feels like a flagship (bar the aforementioned screen resolution).
If you like stock Android I doubt you'll regret it.

I had a handful of g4s. They all went bad and a 5x too. Camera on the g4 was stunning. Low light with the ois was amazing. The hardware was otherwise garbage but looked gorgeous. The LG software was fabulous if you use it in a work environment where you need solid MS exchange services. Asop exchange sucks. Motorola also has solid exchange support. I'm going to say Motorola builds the most durable hardware of any smartphone except the really old blackberries. Moto has been my choice for years. The problem with Moto had always been the cameras. They were horrible. I had the z play and it was barely adequate. Every Moto phone before that was bad too but everything else was so solid that I was willing to look past it.
The Z2 play has a decent camera and you likely will be happy with it. The sd626 is fast for a low power processor. On par with the 808. I would look for an unlockable bl version vs the Verizon one. Custom covers and Moto mods give a bit of the g4 style. Battery life will be similar to the g4. USB c support means super fast charging and you can plug flash drives in, with an adapter. You can merge the internal storage with an SD card for one huge partition as well. The finger print sensor can double as nav keys for more screen space.
I've owned also a G4 long time ago. I will say battery it's way better on the Z2P and the stock Android experience you don't experience any lag. You will ensure many updates on time.
Now regarding back camera, Z2P it's above average but not comparable with G4 which has very good performance. For front camera Z2P it's better.
Fingerprint works great.
Unfortunately i probably wont get the z2 play anymore. Turns out im not eligible for the promotion due to the fact that im not employed for at least 6months at my current employer. Now i hope this promotion will last for another 2-3 months. By then nokia 7 plus will be out and i cant decide between this 2...

I came here to add another point. If you're someone who enjoys running the latest software then don't go with Motorola. Oreo came out 6 months ago and it's not even on the horizon right now. Motorola's gone down Samsung level of suck with updates but Samsung at least has the excuse of having a complex version. I don't know what Lenovo's doing honestly. That would be my main gripe.

That was one reason why i wanted this phone. Near stock OS and i thought they are better with delivering updates. Guess Nokia would be a better compromise then?

From what I can tell it's not really a compromise. They seem to be pretty solid devices. If Nokia sold them in my country I'd get one of them. Stock Android, good updates and a great camera. Motorola has good competition there.
Since Lenovo bought Motorola they've been bad at updates. When Moto was owned by Google up until late 2015 they were way better. They have near stock Android, it shouldn't be that long.

Hello folks, i still rock the galaxy s5 and wanted to buy this phone a year ago, but changed my mind.
Now I want to buy a new smartphone again, one with long battery life. However all the other properties of the Lenovo P2 seem to weak to me (especially the camera, it is atrocious). I just wanted to know, whether there is an alternative, A BETTER alternative to this phone? A more recent one? I just want to survive a day without charging even after 2-3 years of use (like with this phone). I am also ready to pay several hundreds, if not up to $1500 for a phone of that kind. Any suggestions?

Maybe check out the Samsung M30/A50 or even the upcoming A90 the specs seem promising but it's still too soon to say anything about developer support.
Good battery and camera doesn't add these days. At least It looks like this. If you really find device that meets these requirements let me know. I'm interested too.
Honor note 10, Mi max 3, Galaxy M30, Mate 20, or just wait for the Mi max 4.

I'm thinking of getting a 9 pro and was wondering, would you buy it again if you had your current experience to help make your decision? I've found a few around $650, used. I'm not worried about insane camera quality. A good screen, solid performance, fast charging and being able to root and ROM it are what is drawing me in. I loved the 7 Pro I had but I've seen some say they don't think anything later has lived up to that and the quality has degraded. It nearly pushed me back to a 7 pro but I take it with a grain of salt, figured I'd ask here and see from some current users.
As for ROM's, /e/ apparently works. And Lineage. Does the color OS merge cause any new privacy concerns? I don't know a lot of how it has progressed, to be honest. I'm planning to ROM and de-google as much as I can.
Anyone who's used a PIxel 5a, might it be a better solution, cheaper?

Honestly if I could go back, I wouldve bought a Galaxy s21 ultra. Android 12 is still so buggy for me and I'm not keen on OnePlus merging with oppo. I love OOS.
Maybe,. It still has been solid, like screen is beautiful, w/ refresh rate. It has the thirty minute 0-100 charge and forty minute wireless charge. It sounds good and looks good so maybe so.
One thing is the fast charging is 65 watts; which I liked the 35 watt on the 8 pro.
One of the drawbacks was the US unlocked version came with one sim slot, instead of two, like it should of been.
Also when the few updates were good , unlocked version usually only received the incremental version on Google server; but the last one, I just flashed in TWRP (which has been a beauty).
So all in all still a solid device with the microg and Gapps option.
If the Samsung can be unlocked, etc, and looking like it will be supported then maybe that might be the way. I've been looking at them the last few years and I really like that foldable phone that opens to a tablet.
The last one I personally owned was the S3 and that was the days. I remember it coming out and being like, "WOW". That was the CyanogenMod era for me on that S3.
Anyway I hope it works out in what you decide. One thing I think by the way is "how easy is it to recover, and which method? How easy to brick, etc?

Yes. I would buy 9 Pro.
One of the best screen on the market. Hardware, same. Charging on Oneplus is awesome. When i buy my phone battery was 0. I charged with my phone Off in 27 minutes, 0-100 %. Than i buy wireless 50w, crazy fast too. I put my phone on the stand . Then i must have my eyes on the watch. It goes to 100% in no time, if i let it.
About ColorOS... Many people forget that Oppo Fiind 7 came out at the same time with OnePlus One (almost same phone). Oppo works on is own processor. Oppo made a foldable already.
Color OS works fine (on my European model phone). I'm glad that we don't have that Stupid cartoon that i see on Pixel 6 phones. Looks llike is made by a 3 years old kid.
Oxygen OS was Awesome, but unfortunately google f*cked up this great OS.
Camera on Oneplus 9 pro is good. I like xPan mode, especially.

exactly how I feel too.
Yes I would, I'd make sure I know the origin of the phone, I.e. Eu, USA TMobile, India, China. I would then find out which rom it has flashed. Then use these to compare which country you're using it in, to make sure there's no surprise. Also I'd stick with a11 or a12 on a rom you like. My spec's are in the screenshot and I'm in the UK.
I would buy the 9 Pro again, but I'm going to try the 10 Pro when Global model available!

650 usd for a op 9 pro? I'll take it. IMO no phones are better in this price range. It's not the best phone but it is expected that it will perform the same if not better with those $1000+ flagship phones.

7 pro was great ! Mine was blue. NO front camera in display ! Back then Oxygen OS was awesome. And everything was easy : root-unroot-twrp-MSM.
But the screen is Too Curved. And soon you will get no updates.

Alright, I'll try and wait for the Ultra
I've owned my 9 Pro for about 4 months now. I have very mixed feelings about it.
For me, the pluses:
Unlockable bootloader with good third-party ROM support.
Nice screen, decent camera.
Wireless charging
The minuses:
Buggy factory ROM's. The switchover to Android 12 and a ColorOS-based build was a disaster. ColorOS is just not in the same league as OxygenOS as far as polish or capabilities. It lost most of the nice touches that made OxygenOS good. And the new team is doing a mediocre job of staying on top of security patches. It is now the end of February, and my phone is still at January 1, 2022 security patch level.
No SD-card slot.
I think I'd still pick the OnePlus over a Google phone. Google has had extensive hardware issues, and their customer service is supremely awful.
And I'd pick it over Samsung. Samsung is actively hostile toward unlocked bootloaders and custom ROM's. They also have a lengthy history of battery problems - the Galaxy Note 8 was not an aberration, merely the most severe.
Motorola/Lenovo makes decent hardware, but are completely falling down on updates. My wife's One Action is only 15 months old, and is still running Android 10 at a Nov 1, 2021 patch level. Supposedly the premise of the whole "Android One" program was that it would make it easier for the OEM's to issue timely updates and upgrades. Doesn't seem to be working.
To sum it up: The OnePlus is not great, but in the US market, it's still slightly better than the alternatives.
I bought a 256gb/12gb in mint condition for $550 USD that should be here tomorrow. I almost gave up on the idea but then saw the price and figured I'd give it a shot.
I looked forward to trying it out! Now to decide which ROM. LOS, Derp, Nameless or Stag. It's a fun problem I've missed having.

Yes. definitely. I just sold 8T model and bought 9 Pro for a good price. I will stick with Android 11 as long as I can, because IMHO A12 is childish and awful looking (especially these big fonts).

yes, i bought the same way, for similar price, it's worth it. you save money and there are no performance differences or use signs.
just make sure the seller is reputable and you will be fine, for me warranties failed me more than resellers. pro phones usually cost too much and aren't worth the cash unless you find sucha discount from resellers, which phones are rarely used and justa s good as factory. i always choose a physical seller so if there was an issue, have them located, AliExpress is not trustworthy.
about the phone, its very good. the main problem is the default ROM which isnt good at all. on the ohter hand, its easier to flash a custom ROM on OnePlus than almost any brand out there, and this will fix all your bugs, double battery time, half internet data consumption, refresh rate and overall performance. totally recommended
EDIT: i see you bought it for just 550$, which is even better. at that price is definitely even more worth it.
