[Q] Z1 Compact restarts while in flashmode - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I'm currently running the AICP Custom Rom (Android Nougat) but want to flash the generic ROM (TFT file) using flashtool.
I can connect to flashmode (turned off phone, holding Volume Down and connecting the USB cable) which is also recognized by flashtool. Before doing anything, just letting the phone sit on the table it will restart on its own after 1 minute and boot into android. Here is the log output of flashtool:
16/033/2017 18:33:23 - INFO - Device connected in flash mode
16/034/2017 18:34:23 - INFO - Device disconnected
16/034/2017 18:34:41 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging on
As I said, between "connected" and "disconnected" (due to restart) I didn't touch the phone or flashtool at all.
Any ideas how to prevent my phone from restarting on its own?
Edit: it's not an issue of flashtool. Without starting flashtool the phone will still reboot on its own while in flashmode.
Thanks,
Patrick
P.S. I'm running flashtool on Ubuntu (no drivers needed), USB debugging and unknown sources are enabled and I added the phone in the udev rules.

No ideas?

I had the same problem once. Think it was a bad kernel, but not sure. Anyway, booting into fastboot (vol up) instead of flash mode (vol down) made it possible to flash another kernel, after that connection to flash mode worked.

Thank you for your reply. Do you happen to know which kernel version you flashed? Or where you downloaded it?

Is the cable well?

Thank you, I will try that in the next couple of days.
Update: I flashed the new kernel (which worked fine) but it still reboots on its own while in flashmode...

Click flash, and wait until it says to connect phone, then connect in flash mode. FT always disconnects flash mode for me if I leave it without doing anything for a few minutes...

It's not a problem of flashtool. Even without flashtool running the phone will reboot on its own after exactly 60 seconds.
From what I've read and also due to the replies in this thread it sounds to me that this is not at all normal behavior.
At this point I'm not desperate enough to try to flash the ROM while this problem still persists and thereby risking to brick the phone if it still reconnects after 60s while the flashing process is still running.

I agree on that.
Try full restore to stock with EMMA.... But before flashing, see if it will stay connected in flash mode for more than a few min. If it will, dare to flash clean ROM. Then flash RockZ1 kernel and see if this changes anything.

[SOLVED] Xperia Arc bricked, need help fast

I know this has been asked before, but I just can't find a answer. I am really new to this and just wanted to use cyanogenmod because I heard it makes your phone faster.
Ok, so I really want to get Cyanogenmod (should I ask this on they're forums?) on my xperia arc, it was rogers branded, lt15a, .42. So apparently it wasn't for lt15a, so I spent hours trying to find a working rom for lt15i .42, and finally I did it. So I flashed to it and root it and get my stuff off my titanium backup, and go to install cyanogenmod from the clockworkmod menu (I installed it from xperia cwm auto-install). I go down to install from zip, blah blah blah select cyanogen's .zip, and get assert prop error lt18i. That was weird, because on the zip it says its for lt15i, and it said lt15i before when I tried using my lt15a. So I read something on here that said to remove the assert prop stuff from the updater-service file or something, so I did that. I went to install cyanogenmod and it said it was successful and it rebooted my phone. It went to the sony ericsson logo, and wouldn't leave. I go to restore it using the PC Companion update, but it just says it can't detect it. So I go to use flashtool and none of them work. But it said to turn off the phone, obviously it wouldn't turn off, so I took out the battery. Now it just won't turn back on! Have I permanantly bricked it? I can't send it in, because it had root checker and stuff on there. What do I do?
Sorry for the wall of text
Didnt you take a backup before installing the zip???
If so...just restore it through CWM.

It took a long time, many errors, but I do have a backup in rom manager from before I started trying to use cyanogenmod. But it didn't work when I tried it before I bricked my device, and I can't access CWM because I get stuck on sony ericsson and won't let me pass
have you tried flashing a .img via fastboot? you say your device wont turn off after you took out the battery. However can you still put it in flashmode? getting stuck on the boot logo, for me it seems like you didn't use the fxp kernel.

If your software update fails, the phone cannot be powered on properly. When you press the Power key, the phone vibrates and for a few seconds the display either shows Sony Ericsson in grey, or a warning triangle with a yellow exclamation mark and telephone symbol.
The phone then turns off and remains off. To fix this problem, connect the phone to PC Companion again, click start under Phone software update and click on the repair phone link
If the update does not start charge your battery. You need at least 40% battery power to initiate a software update. Charge the phone and then reconnect it to PC Companion.
Don’t use hubs and docks, connect the phone’s USB cable directly to the computer’s USB port. Do not remove or attach any other USB device during the update.

[Q] Bricked Xperia S??

Hi,
First time poster here. I've done a lot of searching to find people with the same problem but can't. Sorry if it's out there and I've missed it.
Essentially I’m worried that I’ve bricked my Xperia S (running ICS). My problem is this:
First I rooted using this link: http://www.xperiagamer.com/Beginners-Guides/rooting-xperia-s.html
Then I installed CWM Recovery using the RecoverX project: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773227
Then I tried to flash cyanogenmod 9 but failed.
I saw somewhere that it mught help to flash XTXperience so I did that. This failed and my Xperia S boots up to the Sony sign then fails and starts again just cycling through.
I can't get in to fastboot mode via CWM or otherwise. When plugged in to the laptop it is recognised but the computer can’t find the drivers (I've tried to instal manually) and then the phone reboots so the computer can no longer see it.
Can anyone help please??!!
Thanks

Keep pressing Unlock key + Volume Down key until you get 3 vibrates.
The phone is now off and you can connect it into flashmode and reflash your ics firmware.
The other thing you can do is going into CWM and wipe data and cache (that worked once for me when I had a bootloop)
--> you will lose all your data.
For CM you first have to install the kernel via fastboot and then go into CWm and flash the CM.zip file.

Cant Get To FastBoot or Flash Mode

I recently flashed CM9 to my phone, but now i want to move on to JB, but for some reason i can not get into flash mode to write a different FTF.
When i I try to get into flash mode, I power the device off, hold the back button, and insert the USB cable. The LED on top flickers green then the screen comes on the the charging screen.
The same happens when I try to use fastboot except blue light flickers.
I have tried diferent computers, cables and OS's im not sure what else to try.

I ran the driver utility and even when I send reboot bootloader via adb, the LED only flickers blue for a moment, then it boots to CWM.
I didn't think the drivers on the computer would change if the phone goes into flash mode or not though.
Default Cant Get To FastBoot or Flash Mode
You would need to be in flashmode (green light) to install a stock FTF not fastboot mode has suggested above. Have you tried flashing another version of CM9 with your phone via cwm and then trying from there see if the problem is not your rom.If not it could be a driver issue.

(1) Have you installed other roms before your problem started did this only start after installing CM9
(2) Have you flashed any other kernels before CM9 or was CM9 your first rom/kernel flash
Noticed on your first post you wrote that you hold the back button then attached the usb did you do this when flashtool said or before, you need to connect the usb exactly when flashtool tells you to like below step 5
(1) How to flash a stock .ftf Rom
(2) load & place .ftf rom in Windows/flashtool/firmware folder
(3) Open flashtool press lightening icon press flashmode
(4) Select your .ftf you placed in flashtool /firmware folder earlier
(5) Wait! Flashtool will tell you to connect your phone!
(6) Press & hold back button while connecting phone to PC green light will come on.
(7) Wait while flashtool starts flashing your stock rom. When finished it will tell you to reboot
(8) Finished unplug switch your phone on done!
Sorry if you already do it like this but some people forget and connect the usb too early Also I would recommend downloading a different version of flashtool some people have managed to get there phone working by using a older version of flashtool:good:

I have waited till flash tool prompts, but IIRC id didn't matter in the past, flashtool would see what mode it was in and proceed.

Did you try a older version of flashtool http://androxyde.github.io/index.html?1375894152000

I just tried versions 7 and 8, it doesn't seem to help.
I feel like this is something wrong with my phone though, I remember the phone being able to go into fast boot and flash mode at any time, as long as the computer was on. It is really weird how it flashes the color on the LED.

I so this quote on another thread similar problem to yours this is what he did:
Quote: Funny thing though is that in order to get into either mode, I have to remove the battery while it is plugged in and then hold down the corresponding key while inserting the battery and the corresponding light will then light up. That seems to be the only way to get into the modes. And sometimes this does't work, but it seems to work more than not.
This guy did this to get into fastboot and flashmode worth a try?

no luck... The light only blinks then goes into charging mode...
Edit:Is there a test point or something that would force the phone into one of these modes?

I read this for another phone and it is a shot in the dark, but if the boot block were zeroed out, it forces it into fastboot. If this can possibly work, what block device is the boot partition?
I will not bee too disappointed if the phone is bricked.

Hi guys!
I have Sony Xperia Arc S.
Is it possible to put it in a Flashmode without a "Back" button? My BackButton is broken, I think it is a road-wire on the button's board.
BTW Fastboot mode working fine.

Z1C won't stay in flashmode

Ok so I've been trying to get flashtool to work with my xperia z1c but I can't get the phone to stay in flashmode. The green led lights briefly and flashtool detects a device in flashmode but after a short time it just drops out of flashmode and boots normally. I originally blamed windows 8.1 but have tried 2 windows 7 machines with the same results. Have tried the Sony z1c drivers package and the latest flashtool drivers - same result. I've searched on Google and found people with the same problem on different xperia devices but has anyone else had the same problem with their z1c? if so has anyone solved it?

So what is the problem? If the phone does not stay long enough in flashmode, try this:
Open flashtool
Click flash, and set up everything (firmware, wipe, etc.)
Now click on flash
After 30 seconds plug in your phone in flashmode.

Happened to me too. I just flashed it before it rebooted, once it starts flashing it wont reboot it'll finish the process. So no worries everything worked out fine.
Thanks for the responses. I'd previously tried to flash an ftf by putting the phone into flashmode first then pressing flash and it always rebooted before the files were prepared so assumed there was something wrong. If you prepare the files first then put the phone into flashmode then all is okay. Thanks again.

how do you boot into flashmode?
the right way is: turn off your device, open flashtools, choose flashmode, choose your ftf you want to flash and wait until finished,
push Vol- and hold it, then plug your device via usb to the computer, then flashtool does its job...

yep i unlocked it. More ideas?
Flash doomlords kernel via fastboot....then reboot to system....if it will not boot successfully then push a ROM zip by adb push and flash it....one more thing just check whether your phone is connecting to PC via fastboot or flashmode.
.
The best way to check is by flashtool...open flashtool software on PC and then connect your phone via fastboot/flashmode and see the status at PC flashtool....if its connecting then flash stock ftf and if not then 1st install drivers..

There was a red light while charging for an hour or so but after a while it disappeared and now im left with dead phone. I don't even know how it happened, i was on cmw recovery and i formatted something, after i restarted my phone it started being like this. I heard that it's possible to repair boot by software called S1tool but i can't find any information about doing this on xperia s.

As far as I know, it is not possible to wipe partition from CWM (if You selected from one of the options from menu) which would lead to hard brick.
Let us start with basics. Can You tell Me which kernel You flashed to get CWM? Also, is there any vibration when You press and hold power button and volume up key together?

Can You give Me link of the kernel You used, just to see if it has any problems. Also, for how long did You hold the combination? You need to hold it for at least 10 to 15 seconds.

Huh, that kernel should have worked. I asked for the combination duration since many people make mistakes there. Since we are clear of that, did You try the rubber band trick from here? That trick sometimes takes more than a day to work.
Yep i did that and i tried many different ways to make it work.. no luck. i got annoyed and i sent it to the repairs today...
