I recently flashed CM9 to my phone, but now i want to move on to JB, but for some reason i can not get into flash mode to write a different FTF.
When i I try to get into flash mode, I power the device off, hold the back button, and insert the USB cable. The LED on top flickers green then the screen comes on the the charging screen.
The same happens when I try to use fastboot except blue light flickers.
I have tried diferent computers, cables and OS's im not sure what else to try.
Download flashtool and install the drivers for your phone then leave your phone and enable unknown sources and enable usb debugging then open flashtool then press flash icon and select fastboot mode then plug your phone in then select reboot into fastboot mode via adb

I ran the driver utility and even when I send reboot bootloader via adb, the LED only flickers blue for a moment, then it boots to CWM.
I didn't think the drivers on the computer would change if the phone goes into flash mode or not though.
Default Cant Get To FastBoot or Flash Mode
You would need to be in flashmode (green light) to install a stock FTF not fastboot mode has suggested above. Have you tried flashing another version of CM9 with your phone via cwm and then trying from there see if the problem is not your rom.If not it could be a driver issue.

(1) Have you installed other roms before your problem started did this only start after installing CM9
(2) Have you flashed any other kernels before CM9 or was CM9 your first rom/kernel flash
Noticed on your first post you wrote that you hold the back button then attached the usb did you do this when flashtool said or before, you need to connect the usb exactly when flashtool tells you to like below step 5
(1) How to flash a stock .ftf Rom
(2) load & place .ftf rom in Windows/flashtool/firmware folder
(3) Open flashtool press lightening icon press flashmode
(4) Select your .ftf you placed in flashtool /firmware folder earlier
(5) Wait! Flashtool will tell you to connect your phone!
(6) Press & hold back button while connecting phone to PC green light will come on.
(7) Wait while flashtool starts flashing your stock rom. When finished it will tell you to reboot
(8) Finished unplug switch your phone on done!
Sorry if you already do it like this but some people forget and connect the usb too early Also I would recommend downloading a different version of flashtool some people have managed to get there phone working by using a older version of flashtool:good:

(1) yes, i have installed several roms before CM9 and i was always able to enter flash mode.
(2)I have tried doom kernel and several other kernels as well
I have waited till flash tool prompts, but IIRC id didn't matter in the past, flashtool would see what mode it was in and proceed.
Thank you for the descriptive reply.

I just tried versions 7 and 8, it doesn't seem to help.
I feel like this is something wrong with my phone though, I remember the phone being able to go into fast boot and flash mode at any time, as long as the computer was on. It is really weird how it flashes the color on the LED.

I so this quote on another thread similar problem to yours this is what he did:
Quote: Funny thing though is that in order to get into either mode, I have to remove the battery while it is plugged in and then hold down the corresponding key while inserting the battery and the corresponding light will then light up. That seems to be the only way to get into the modes. And sometimes this does't work, but it seems to work more than not.
This guy did this to get into fastboot and flashmode worth a try?

I read this for another phone and it is a shot in the dark, but if the boot block were zeroed out, it forces it into fastboot. If this can possibly work, what block device is the boot partition?
I will not bee too disappointed if the phone is bricked.

Hi guys!
I have Sony Xperia Arc S.
Is it possible to put it in a Flashmode without a "Back" button? My BackButton is broken, I think it is a road-wire on the button's board.
BTW Fastboot mode working fine.

Ok so I've been trying to get flashtool to work with my xperia z1c but I can't get the phone to stay in flashmode. The green led lights briefly and flashtool detects a device in flashmode but after a short time it just drops out of flashmode and boots normally. I originally blamed windows 8.1 but have tried 2 windows 7 machines with the same results. Have tried the Sony z1c drivers package and the latest flashtool drivers - same result. I've searched on Google and found people with the same problem on different xperia devices but has anyone else had the same problem with their z1c? if so has anyone solved it?

So what is the problem? If the phone does not stay long enough in flashmode, try this:
Open flashtool
Click flash, and set up everything (firmware, wipe, etc.)
Now click on flash
After 30 seconds plug in your phone in flashmode.

Happened to me too. I just flashed it before it rebooted, once it starts flashing it wont reboot it'll finish the process. So no worries everything worked out fine.
Thanks for the responses. I'd previously tried to flash an ftf by putting the phone into flashmode first then pressing flash and it always rebooted before the files were prepared so assumed there was something wrong. If you prepare the files first then put the phone into flashmode then all is okay. Thanks again.

2. reboot your device
3. connect your device to PC (now it will be recognized)

I'm trying to flash a FTF in FlashTool but my Xperia Play(R800a) isn't going into Flash Mode it just shows "Sony Ericsson" and then it starts charging. I have installed the drivers and even Unlocked the Bootloader via the TP method.
Any help will be much appreciated.

This is what I have to do to get into Flash Mode
(RED=What was done different, Green=What was done the same)
1.Open FlashTool
2.Select Flash Mode
3.Select Firmware (FTF)
4.Wait till FlashTool tells you to connect your phone in Flash Mode
5.Remove Battery from phone
6.Connect phone while holding Back Button(With no Battery)
7.Insert battery
8.FlashTool will start Flashing the FTF, once done Reboot and enjoy
In order for this TO WORK Steps 6 and 7 have to be done REALLY FAST
Nobody Can Help?
Okay, I was able to go into Flash Mode in PCC but I still wasn't able to do it in FlashTool. I was also able to Root my phone but that didn't help ether. I also noticed that when the phone starts Charging after I failed to go into Flash Mode it says that Debugging is Off, witch is wrong(I do have Debugging On). Its also says that Debugging is Off when I first open flash tool and then connect the phone but it does recognizance Debugging On if I first connect my phone and then open FlashTool. Is Debugging the problem???
I also want to add that I have a Xperia X8 and FlashTool work fine with it.
Any body out there that had or has a problem like me???
Try different usb cable or different usb port on PC.
Also, does your back button working when you boot into rom?
Maybe updating flashtool might help...
Don't be confused with that "debugging off" message, because you only need it when you are in normal mode. There is no point /need/purpose for debugging when phone is in flash, fastboot or charging mode (nor it is possible). Flashtool only report lack of it, but since you don't need it, just ignore it)

Any other ideas to what might the problem be???

Maybe PCC and Flashtool are in conflict. Exit PCC (right-click on systray icon). Also, kill all adb.exe processes from task manager before starting flashtool.
If that don't work, try more desparate measures: uninstall and install again drivers or PCC or flashtool...

Good for future reference, for someone with similar problem
Hey guys , my xperia m ( single sim ) is stuck on the sony logo whenever i try to boot it up.
I rooted my phone many months and it was perfect till this morning and then suddenly it got stuck at the sony logo.
Ive tried to fix it via the pc companion but it doesnt detect it . Now the battery has also run out so when i try to charge it , it shows the led for charging but then the sony logo comes up on its on and stays stuck there. Please help =(
That is a simple soft-brick/bootloop (depending on who you ask, I'd say bootloop).
Charge the phone for a couple of hours and then flash stock firmware with flashtool. To do this you will need to download the stock firmware ftf (these can ALL be found in the general section, don't ask for links) and also flashtool (http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php). Move the ftf to the firmware folder to where you extracted flashtool to (the C: is the best bet).
Once you have both of those things and your phone has charge in it open flashtool. Then click on the lightning bolt icon and then flashmode. Select the firmware you have downloaded.
UNTICK Wipe cache and data.
Click flash.
Wait for flashtool to tell you to connect your phone in flashmode (do this by holding volume down (I think) while the phone is off and you are connecting the USB cable).
Wait for the firmware to finish flashing.
If you get an error saying that loader.sin has finished processing with errors open the ftf with WinRar (or something similar) and delete the loader.sin file and make sure that you save the changes to the ftf.
If you are still stuck on the Sony logo after flashing, remove your battery and then put it back in and try to turn on the device again. If you are still stuck on the Sony logo after that you will have to wipe the cache and data with flashtool.
Try sony pc companian support

Flashtool will definitely detect it, don't worry. PC Companion needs the phone to actually be booted to be able to detect it, whereas flashtool only needs the phone to be in either fastboot mode or flash mode to detect it. Both of these modes are initiated by the user when they are plugging in the USB cable and holding the respective volume button and the phone is off.

Any stock firmware to the device will work, so it can be any of the 4.1.2 variants or and of the 4.3 variants (4.2 is for dual SIM). And don't worry about being a noob, all of us were at one point or another.

When you are flashing a firmware be sure to keep the cable firmly connected throughout the entire process (use a different cable if the one you already have is a bit loose) and don't mess with the phone at all. Can you post the whole log you got from flashtool? Either in text form or through a screenshot?

Flash doomlords kernel via fastboot....then reboot to system....if it will not boot successfully then push a ROM zip by adb push and flash it....one more thing just check whether your phone is connecting to PC via fastboot or flashmode.
.
The best way to check is by flashtool...open flashtool software on PC and then connect your phone via fastboot/flashmode and see the status at PC flashtool....if its connecting then flash stock ftf and if not then 1st install drivers..

As far as I know, it is not possible to wipe partition from CWM (if You selected from one of the options from menu) which would lead to hard brick.
Let us start with basics. Can You tell Me which kernel You flashed to get CWM? Also, is there any vibration when You press and hold power button and volume up key together?

Huh, that kernel should have worked. I asked for the combination duration since many people make mistakes there. Since we are clear of that, did You try the rubber band trick from here? That trick sometimes takes more than a day to work.
Yep i did that and i tried many different ways to make it work.. no luck. i got annoyed and i sent it to the repairs today...
bought this cheap xperia z1 compact off a friend, never used a sony phone before so i thought rooting and installing custom firmware would be same as other android devices, the phone was running lolipop and i used kingroot to root it and then used flashify to install a custom kernel without knowing the device requires bootloader to be unlocked now my device wont turn on at all it vibrates 3 times and flashes red led if i press volume up +power button, i have been reading stuff online no solutions to my problem. tried flashtool but i cant get the device to recognised on the flashtool or get into recovery mode. which ever volume button i press and hold and try to power up it flashes 3 times red led. also tried volume up/down plugging into my laptop still red led. so can this device be unbricked or is it good as dead?

If bl is still locked, official Sony repair software might work, (but not sure if it will recognize that it was rooted and reject it). It's been a couple of years, but it used to be called PC Companion. You go to 'software update', and there's a 'repair phone' option.
Besides that, Flashtool is definitely your best bet. It takes a little setup, but not too bad - install Flashtool, and in the Flashtool folder is a 'drivers' folder, with a drivers.exe file. Run the exe and check boxes for 'fastboot', 'flashmode', and 'Rhine'. Let the drivers install, then connect phone in flash mode, (power off, hold volume down and plug it in). You should get 'installing device driver' popup. Click 'skip windows update check', and it will find the drivers already on computer from Flashtool. Now you need to download an ftf. Open Flashtool, and click the 'XF' button at the top. That opens Xperifirm. Find D5503, and click whatever regional fw you want. Now it will download and unpack. Whole thing takes about 10 minutes. When it's all done, open Flashtool, and select '' at the top, then choose 'flash mode', and navigate to the ftf file you downloaded. You need to double-click all the way down to the actual file and you will see all of the empty fields on the screen suddenly get filled in. If you want to go ahead and flash the whole thing, just click 'flash'; it takes about 10 minutes. Since you really only need the kernel, you can go to 'exclude' box and check everything except kernel files, then click 'flash', and it will be done in less than a minute.
Really appreciate for the information. But i just can't get flashtool or the pc companion detect the device. I don't know how to get it detected

Did you run drivers.exe and select the 3 checkboxes mentioned? Did it install successfully? If so, what happens when you plug in in flash mode?

Hey Levone. This bootloop thing has happened to me too. When i use flash mode, the led flashes green and then red, and nothing happens. I have my bootloader locked, and i flashed a new version of supersu, and got a bootloop. I lost my recovery, my OS, everything. I tried to get a stock firmware through xperifirm but that had a weird problem (some of the filenames were too long, so windows decided to not let me get that firmware). PC Companion does not recognize my phone. Could you help me?

Yes i installed driver.exe and checked those 3 you mentioned. When i connect my device holding volume down it does nothing. It shows on the flash tool device disconnected.

I think you're not powered off. Hard to tell with black screen. Try holding power and volume up for a few seconds, and see if you feel 3 vibrations. The you're powered off. Then try to connect in flash mode. Flashing a bad kernel shouldn't hurt your flash mode or fastboot.

Did you follow the drivers install instructions above? The green flash is a good sign, even if it doesn't stay lit. If you have the drivers, (and adb too, I think), you should get 'installing driver' message.

Yea, i got the "installing driver" message. It installed the driver "adb interface" or something like that. I don't remember what was it called, but something with adb in it. I will try using flash mode with flashtool, but i need a firmware. It would really help if you could get the ftf file from your phone and upload it to mediafire or somewhere where i can download it.

BTW - if you're going to go full ftf flash, might be a good idea to flash KK, which is easier to root, (doomlord toolkit), and then install recovery and flash LP prf. Otherwise, your either going to use Kingroot, or unlock bl.
