Possible to prevent bootloop on new device? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've seen low prices on this phone and I'm wondering if it's possible to prevent this issue. I know on my G3, i used a thermal pad on the SoC to help with heat dissipation. I'm wondering if doing the same would prevent bootloop. maybe the excessive heat from the SoC is causing the solder to fail?
Thanks!

Don't play games leave or it on your bed charging
If it gets hot pop battery out

The heat Issue?

I am thinking to buy the phone but I saw some posts there are some heat issues. So what is the problem besides the phone getting too hot? Is it shuting down when it gets too hot or get really laggy? Is there any other problem when heated except it gets really hot?

I haven't experienced any heat issues. I have yet to feel my g3 get warm Tbh.
Others (not sure which model) have reported issues with heat, to the point that it causes the device to throttle the brightness down. Again haven't experienced this on my at&t model.

Thanks for the reply, someone with issues ?
Same here not felt it get warm even watching video.
When the phone gets hot several things happen.
1) The CPU is clocked down to help lower heat
2) Brightness is capped to help lower heat
3) If the phone continues to get too hot (usually when its already hot and you then start to play a really intense game, or benchmark the phone may shut itself down.
People complained a lot with the Korean model but I haven't seen anyone with a US model complain. Maybe the type of person that waits is less likely to be a phone gamer? They may have actually tweaked it so it doesn't activate as quickly or harshly. I do know some people disabled it on the Korean model. I haven't heard of anything bad happening but those few people may have felt dumb if it destroyed their phone and not posted that it did...
I have no heating problem with my lg g3 international D855 16gb model, even during quadrant test or playing games.

Define an actual temperature for hot.
I disabled the thermal protection on my AT&T version and yes, I've felt it get quite hot while playing Final Fantasy 6. The heat radiated mainly through the metal power button but the entire top half of the device got pretty hot. Didn't bother me all that much tho, as I've had other devices get hot like that in the past.
I use exposed app CPU temp my g3 sits at about 30c and 45c which is normal temps and about 50ish whith thermal protection on disabled.
what heat issue

Do we have any official documentation from Qualcomm on how hot the cpu can safely be?

My girlfriend picked this up yesterday and this is happening to her G3. Not playing games though, just browsing the internet/reading an article. It makes no sense to me. How can you take control over that? She doesn't want to root the phone.
But yeah, just reading something or even looking at Facebook, the phone gets way too hot.
I picked up the Verizon version yesterday. It's gotten pretty warm around the power button a few times for me also. Typically not bad or what I would consider unusual with one or two exceptions.
My G3 (UK) go very very hot yesterday when I was on the train playing a graphically intensive game.
It shut itself down and then refused to turn on again. Ever.
I tried everything all night but no joy. I got a replacement handset today.
I'm sure it was because of the overheating that the phone malfunctioned. Without knowing exactly what has happened to it the timing is too coincidental for it to be random hardware failure. It was SUPER hot!

This is strange. Does the kernel not shut the phone down before it "fries" the SOC?,unless the throttling temps are too high? Wonder if this is linked to the display flickering problem myself and another poster had.

Funny you mention display flickering. I had that about 2 weeks ago. The display started flickering really badly, like nothing I've ever seen on any Android device, and I needed to pull the battery to reset. It didn't boot straight away either, it had to cool down a bit.

this.
all phones get warm if you are on it for an extended period of time, surfing (using data), gaming etc etc screen on for long periods of time. those saying they can game and not have heat are lying to you. phone gets warm when screen is on for extended period of time and by phone I mean any phone

Yeah, i had a flickering display which didnt go away.I returned that phone. Another poster yesterday had the same issue.Im wondering if the GPU is frying itself? Although the GPU does throttle as well as the CPU. Running Antutu I would get 60+deg C maybe playing a game for an extended period of time for example is causing damage? Just a theory.

New to g4 is there a thermal mitigation option

Wonderin if g4 has option to disable thermal mitigation like g3 im expieriencing some lag when i get warmer not hot and i know this worked on g3 im on a ls991 running zv6 rooted of coarse no recovery
You could also try installing thermal tape/pads inside the phone (or even using thermal paste like what's used on computer CPUs) between the chips and the frame, to pull heat off the motherboard and into the frame of the phone and ease some of the thermal throttling.
There is a write up somewhere showing pictures and explaining how to do the cooling mod, it's fairly straightforward you just unscrew the motherboard (there is also a youtube video showing the guy installing thermal paste)

Im one of the origes that done the mod on the g3 i use arctic silver paste im not a fan of the pads i havnt disasemnled a g4 yet though im sire i could figure out how to but i rather come across a scematic or teardown diagram just in case. I even just bought a new repair kit for phones. My issue isnt over heating imo but it seems like when i hit around 55 or so it throttles and screen dims so i wanna disable the throttle not to worried about heat i know damn well its not over heating

LG G3 Reboots constantly, wifi and bluetooth do not turn on

Hi all.
My LG G3 (stock 6.0 V30n) keep rebooting while I'm using it. I tried the thermal paste mod as suggested in this forum but the situation did not change. Also Wifi and bluetooth do not turn on at all.
I tried a repair center and they said that a new motherboard was needed (price for the spare parts + service = 170$). I did not proceed as I can (easily?) order a spare part and change it by myself for much less.
I already tried to change the battery (bought a new LG-made one, produced in 2016) but this did not solve anything. Also I tried with various factory reseted, cache cleans and even with the latest LineageOS.
Do you think that by changing the motherboard I would be able to solve these issues?
Thanks!
I dont know about this issue, however my thought is that maybe from past overheating perhaps RAM chip or SSD has some poor solder connections. Maybe you could try putting something onto those 2 chips to press them more firmly to the motherboard/soc.

Thanks.
I already tried with a slice of a credit card, plus I put aluminium foil and thermal paste on the CPU and Wifi chips, still reboots
Have you tried putting some pressure on the rear camera connector as suggested by some? If you did, I guess you can try to apply heat to the whole motherboard. I wouldnt bake it. I think you could use a candle to heat it up, while at the same time applying pressure somehow (be creative lol) so that RAM or SSD doesnt fall off.
Check this out for maybe more insight: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/g3-hardware-problems-solved-bsod-screen-t3597086

Unfortunately heat damage to micro soldering joints are usually non-repairable. The silver-based lead-free micro soldering used on it is difficult to repair and it's usually more time and cost efficient to replace the board; that is, if heat damage is causing your problems. I've heard of people actually baking their mainboard in an oven to repair solder joints. This is a ridiculous myth and you risk damaging it further. :silly:
Also, aluminum foil will have the opposite desired effect on heat dispersion. It is not solid and will end up doing nothing, or heating up the chip further. Also, thermal paste in not a good idea to use for this application. Thermal paste is best suited for high-heat CPU and GPU applications. It also expands and hardens after heating up. It may be too late for your device, but for others who are interested, you want to use a 15x15x0.5mm thermal pad. See this post and this post for more information.

Aluminum foil WILL help, not as much as a solid piece od metal but it will transfer heat to the frame of the phone. In my case RAM is bent around the edges because of overheating and it lost contact to the soc. I fixed it by cutting a piece of thin metal I had so that it almost reaches to the side edges of the frame and about 15mm in width. I put thermal paste under it and 0.5mm pad on the soc and now RAM is forced to contact with broken BGA because of the pressure. That fixed the screen fading/flickering as well as overheating. The CPU now idles at around 34c and stays below 60c on most games with some undervolting.
With that said, maybe the same principle could be applied with other chips that cause issues.

Thermal overheating messages problem

Hi i am OnePlus 7t rooted user..
....and
when ever i play high graphics game in 90fps ....my phone is heat as hell and automatic all apps are close. please help me to deactivate or disable that auto app close system.....
is that anything i can do....
any application to help me.....
plz find me the solution
i read all articles on this site but....not finding the solution for over heating auto close app problem.......
Also I trying to delete thermal related files...in root folder. But they are not deletable
please,,,,
You can fry the chipset, battery even the display like that. Disabling thermal shutdown will likely have dire consequences eventually...
You're burning up the battery; once the battery temp hits 102F, give it a rest.
Use a damp microfiber cloth to cool, you can cradle it in the cloth while using or wrap when fast charging to keep the temperature down.

Please..... suggest anything. App , bypass code anything
Don't know. If you're rooted you can edit them I suspect, once you find them.
However this is exactly how you can destroy a rooted phone... when it now auto shuts down you're already in the danger zone.

Thank you for your reply.....
That's not you give me a solution
I already know about the thermal-less CPU disadvantages......I have...coolling fans ...too...but that consum more battery...
That's why I need to delete or edit the thermal files.....
I can try to .....print 3D case for my OnePlus 7t so I can fit CPU fan on SD855+ chip
Can you please give me a solution

LG G3 no power, no charging led, just "dead"

As the title says, my G3 died, after turning it off one night. I've already tried all the possible tricks with the battery/buttons, can't boot into recovery nor fastboot ( it's not even powering on after all)
The only thing that is noticeable is that putting it into recharge, the zone where the CPU is installed becomes warm ( like 50 degrees warm ) very fast.
Likely, is a hardware failure, maybe the oven method could solve the issue for a bit, in that case i would know that somewhere a component or the SoC isn't soldered correctly anymore to the board and maybe the cause of the issue
No direct measures have been taken to dissipate the heat of the processor in this device. We can call this planned obsolescence. Since the screen of the device is 2K, the processor cannot stand it and gets overheats.

Yeah i've heard about that, i was thinking to add some thermal paste, but i haven't did it in time. The last thing i've done with it was an "intense" gaming session, so maybe that was the final deathblow.
