I tried video recording today. I have a constant hiss in the background. Overall the sound is okay but the hiss is terrible. Wondering if all you guys have it or something is wrong with this thing. Thanks for any replies.

Google has admitted the issue and will fix it with a software update this month
Just got mine. Recorded a video and the audio is absolutely terrible. Cracking and hissing and the odd crackle. What the hell? Do I have a faulty unit?

If they don't fix by Thanksgiving I will return and play the waiting game. They supposedly have escalated this issue and a rep will do the faucet test before sending it out again for an rma even though I reiterated it was present on every device.

Righto mate, settle down yeah, this place is about helping people, sharing ideas etc not being a keyboard warrior.
I have had other problems with the device as well, which may or may not be hardware. Touch events aren't always detected and, it's happening to other people too...

Once of the biggest letdowns for me of the HTC Desire was the media capabilities (or lack of) and in particular the issue with sync when streaming online video.

My Desire has been returned now as IMO it's just not worth the money and the heat issues did't seem at all right to me but this mayt be of use to some of you ...
Good luck!
Thats amore promising response. Admitting there is a problem and someone in development is working on it.
What heat issues? Mine's as cool as a cucumber, running and charging...

EXACTLY! Has anyone died or received burns? No. I've had this issue with Nokias and iphones. They all get hot! As do laptops. Get a grip and man up.
seriously, its NORMAL for a 1400maH powered device to get hot. It has a 1ghz processor!!! and NO FAN. What do you expect?
I am only concerned about the youtube sync part of this thread.
When a phone get's uncomfortable to hold due to heat issues it is most definitely NOT normal! ;-)
I posted about it in another thread so I won't go into it again here.
Good that HTC have admitted the fault though, as some have said.
They're pretty good about fronting up when they find an issue, usually they release hotfixes quite quickly once they start to address an issue.
Interesting the first reply I got from HTC regarding sound and video sync issues was pretty much a point blank refusal of any issue existing.
But just got a reply to a second message I sent them and they are asking for my serial number and software version so looks like they are looking into this more.

Hi My wife and I both got the Ion about 48 hours ago. We just now have installed skype and tried a video call. The video quality is ok, but the audio quality is terrible. The entire time there is a loud chirp that is present during the conversation. If I place my finger over my microphone on the phone, it goes away. The skype app does say the device isnt certified, but does anyone know of a fix for this issue. Am I just SOL with Skype and should I try Tango? Thanks Pete
Tango works great. Haven't tried skype. Were you in the same room or close? It could have been interference from being too close. Turning xloud on helps with exrenal speaker volume if that was a problem.

Here is a fix for that problem: Save video calling for when you are out of town, and the wife is home. Not out of town and the wife is with you.

Can someone say ****???
Where did I say I was in the same room with my wife. Nowhere, that is where. The issue I have, and why I wanted to be able to video chat, is that we do not see each other during the week due to work. I work out of town, and it would be a nice feature to be able to video call. The problem I have is that when we try using skype on both of our IONs, there is a loud chirp that doesnt go away while chatting. We arent in the same room let alone within 70 miles of one another. Keep your dayjob because you arent funny.
Message the Skype dev and tell them of the issue. Sometimes app devs have to implement updates to work on new phones

i'd def email the developer. and i'd also bet money it's not an issue in ICS. doesn't sound hardware related.. unless one of you has one that is giving feedback... have you tried skyping a computer via the ion? one at a time see if it's one phone or the other? or if they both do it?
Thanks for the replies. Spoke to a skype agent today and they told me that currently there is no certification or testing that has been done on the ION and it is not an approved device. They did not have a timeframe, but have told me that they personally have had several ION calls already about numerous issues with video and audio quality and hope to have it fixed soon. Thanks guys. Pete
I had a pretty similar crappy experience with skype with me trying to video call my wife on her atrix. Neither phone seemed to want to connect, and when it did, video quality was very poor. I then decided to try tango and I have to say--I'm pretty impressed.
Setup was simple (less than 30 seconds) and it automatically scanned my contacts to find others with tango accounts. The video and audio quality is excellent and the ui is very simple. All in all, I'd say I have zero reason to try skype ever again.
Year, I love Tango. It also notifies you if any of your friends join. Pretty impressive.

Just today I started playing some music and noticed and awful crackling/popping distortion coming from the top speaker at higher volumes. Not loud volumes, but higher volumes. I flashed to sense and CM but it is not a ROM issue. This just started today or yesterday, since it wasn't there 2 days ago.
I am about a 2 weeks over my 14-day return period, and I REALLY don't want a refurb (knowing VZW's awful history of terrible refurbs).
What should I do? :crying:
Bump.
Try a frequency generator app and find the frequency that you hear the issue. I believe that some of the frequency generator apps have left and right balance, which should let you isolate the bad side so it is easier to hear the problem. At least this way it should be obvious whether you have a damaged speaker.
You might be boned, but I have had good units from square trade. Asurion was hit and miss. They actually sent me fouled up units as well as brand new units in box with all accessories with the Rezound.

But what if I have a contract with VZW?
And the frequency generator app makes it MUCH more noticeable.

You can get Squaretrade or Asurion insurance added to your device.
Verizon probably won't want to issue you a new device. Asurion and Squaretrade will likely issue you a CLN if you do it through insurance. But this speaker issue is probably a manufacturer defect so it should be replaced under warranty, so you shouldn't need insurance on it for this issue. I don't know of a way to get a new device via warranty or insurance, unless they run out of CLN devices. I believe that is what happened with the Rezound-- I think there were so many insurance claims because many of them were defective, so they ran out and had to ship new units instead.
If you can do without for a short period you could send to HTC for repair .. Since s-off/s-on is a pretty easy switch should be no big deal if you can do without or use an old phone

Shouldn't make a difference. Isn't the phone designed to run with the beats EQ?
But anyway, I have tried on stock and CM and it is definitely a hardware issue.

I replied to them with the info and they haven't emailed me since.
This happened to me on CM. And I had just finished posting on here that I was having ZERO problems with CM.
Anyway, I restored my bonestock backup and the crackling has gone away. Not sure why CM would make that happen.

Perhaps because CM doesn't quite have the right kernel settings to handle the more powerful speakers and dedicated amp.

I had noticed upon flashing CM that the audio sounded piss poor. Could be a preset that needs to be tuned.

Any one else experienced the microphone being extremely muffled. I mean I can record a video right in front of the mic and I can barely hear myself..
Yes, it's a known issue. There's a patch to fix it but It didn't work for me. Give it a try just in case.

I'm not sure guys my mic was actually being covered up by sand. I went to the beach and dropped the phone I had to take mine apart and clean it. Which thankfully when great
I'm having the same issue. I have a support call with Tier2 tomorrow, but if this isn't resolved I can either try the root and disabling noise cancellation hack, or sell this device.
This is a major issue as I use Skype calls a lot. If the person I'm talking to can't hear me, then it's worthless.
Otherwise I really like this phone. I switched over to an Axon 7 (that handles the Skype calls just fine), and while it does have some good points such as the screen and speakers, the OnePlus 3 really is the overall better phone with much better software. But something simply like microphone gain is so basic I am surprised that OnePlus has such a problem after multiple software updates.
Hi, like this thread! Hope that will help to wait not longer for fix in official version
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/a...rsions.478549/
Hi all,
My wife loves watching youtube videos on 1.75-2x speed. We noticed that the sound specially on music played in the video is very distorted/muffled/sounds like youre underwater. This doesn't happen on the iPhone 7 Plus we switched from. I searched all over and couldn't find anything on this other than an old article regarding Android 5.0 where you can disable something called "nuplayer" in developer settings but I don't see this option.
This has been confirmed to happen on both of our Note 10 Plus' on Android 9.
Any help trying to figure this out will be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you!
Another interesting find is that this also happens on PC! What the heck did Apple do different?! This sucks big time.
I guess case closed. This is a "normal" occurrence.
I think it's the video as I just done it and it sounded ok to me so must be the video and how the sound is coded

Yeah, I'm not too sure! My wife sent me a couple links to test and they both had the same issue. She complains that most videos she watches has that issue. Anything from music to background noises on planes and such (she watches a lot of traveling/food vlogs). I'll PM you a link for the video I'm talking about as I'm not allowed to post links yet.
When the music kicks in, it sounds distorted. This doesn't happen on the iPhone. I really don't understand what would cause this.
Ok I'll have a listen to it now and report back to you

I guess another thing is that it may sound normal to people who are used to it. But if you have an Apple device to test and compare it to, you'd be able to tell the difference right away. When I first heard it, I thought she was crazy until she showed me the difference on our old iPhones. Then it left me wondering why it would do this. Some more articles I stumbled upon mentioned CPU processing power when setting it to a faster playback but I can't imagine the Note 10 Plus being inferior to the iphone 7 plus in processing power.
I couldn't find video or got inbox also dont have an iphone lol
