Does anyone know if the unlocked pixel 2 purchased from Google will check for a tethering subscription? I know that the Nexus 6p does not check and the Nexus 5x does check. The previous Pixel 1s checked as well.
I am on a grandfathered Verizon unlimited plan.
It does.

Awesome, thank you that answers it.
Unfortunately not the news I wanted.

So I just realized VZW 4g phones need sim cards. My previous phone was an original droid so I don't have one. Since I ordered a Gnex from wirefly, do they include the sim card or do I have to get it from VZW? What is the process like to get one?
I also had wirefly keep my original data plan (unlimited). Will that transfer okay and work with vzw 4g lte? My phone is arriving tomorrow so just want to be prepared so i can get up and running asap!
sorry
I got mine off Amazon, and the sin card was in the sealed nexus box. I imagine it'll be the same with wirefly, and my unlimited plan switched perfectly since I had it on my original Droid and Incredible 2

Yup, wirefly should/will include it in the box. You are set.
Be sure to call and have wirefly activate the phone. If you try to do it through the vzw website they will try to get you to change data plans to a tiered one. That is if you don't already have one.
I haz no sig
It comes packaged. If you ever need a new one go to Verizon and they will likely provide one free of charge.

I activated my original droid by just calling the activation number and using the automated system. Is it different on this device which requires you to call wirefly/vzw?
I think you'll be fine using the automated system. I doubt it'll change your plans without your consent, or at least without asking/warning u about it.

I'm sorry, activation wasn't the problem it was swapping my old phone with the GNex on Verizons website that prompted me to "upgrade" to a tiered plan. That was my experience. If you run into problems just call Wirefly and have them do the switch.
I was looking at picking up a used LTE nexus 7 to replace my wifi one. I found one for a good price that was originally purchased from Verizon. Will I be able to swap this device to at&t or has Verizon locked it?
Thanks

Cool. I just know verizon hates Nexus devices for the most part so I wasnt sure what lengths they would go to in order to ruin them.
I bought a like-new Verizon sold N7 and have only ever used it on T-Mobile.
PM me if serious about purchasing. Im gonna be selling mine which is unlocked free of Verizon. Only used it with AT&T. Just depends on how soon you're looking to purchase.
I'm on an unlimited data plan, so I only care about one thing: tethering. With an increase of $40/month on my phone bill (2 lines @ unlimited data), adding an extra $30 plus the monthly fee for upgrading is just out of the question.
So is it possible to have temp root, just long enough to modify the proper file to enable stock tethering?

Well this says yes, but if that's the case I wonder why everyone sends their devices out instead of using sunshine.

Verizon builds are a little different. Hence no sunshine support. Plus ping-pong didn't work on the vzw builds. (Go figure).

Hello all. I just ordered a nexus 5x with the project fi pricing. I'm coming from a galaxy s6 which currently has a tethering hack and is basically unlimited.
Will tethering on the nexus 5x with a custom rom work the same?

Well, unlimited as in: whatever you're ready to pay for data...
Google does not care how you use your data: Tethered or not you pay the same per GB, no matter which device pulls the data. The way it should be if you ask me....

Has anyone gotten the Pixel 2 XL from Best Buy or Target at full price without the VZW bloatware? Is it like the Pixel 1 where I can just not put in the SIM?

Wait, so I could have bought from VZW, gotten trade in bonus on current phone, and then taken to TMo for $325 more off? Doh.
Only 3 bloat apps..

My Verizon
All 3 can be uninstalled.

I guess that could have worked. I don't have Verizon service. So I just put my TMO SIM in and start using it.

For now yes..I honestly think Verizon did something. I've seen multiple on swappa with the box still taped. Mine was not. The demo one also had it not grayed out the first day. When I went back it was.

I bought my pixel xl last year from the Google store unlocked and just popped my verizon some from my nexus 6p in it with no issues and did the same with my pixel 2 xl with no issues.

If you still have not set it all up, and used a Verizon sim try a factory reset.

If you purchased it from Verizon the bootloader is locked. It will always be greyed out. The Google store version is unlockable.
