Just a little curious to see your responses.
Before my ZF2, I had an LG G4.
Before that, I had an LG G3, an HTC M8, and a Moto G3.
Bonus question: Which phone would you want to move onto after your ZF2?
see signature
I was using a Moto G2 and before that a Galaxy SII, what a great phone it was!
If I had to change right now I would buy a "Moto G5S Plus", about same spec as the ZF2, 5.5" 1080p, wifi 5GHz, NFC, quick charge, SDcard, etc. IMHO better than the Xiaomi Mi A1.
I used a Nokia N95 8GB for at least 6 or 7 years.
I like my Zenfone, it's my first Android phone, and I'm using it for ~1 and a half year now.
I'm using linux almost every day, so I want my next device to be a Librem 5, because it will be a true GNU Linux phone, when it's released.
Using Android with terminal emulator and a linux environment with cli applications just too much hassle for me. Especially when I have to compile something.
I want more control over things.
I came from an LG Optimus G Pro.
Before that I had an LG Nitro HD.
Before that I had a Samsung Centura [shudder].
A bit before I had a Samsung Galaxy S2 for a bit but ended up selling it and going back to a dumbphone for a while (long story).
I am now using a ZTE Axon 7 and my wife has my Zenfone 2. Even though my A7 is a powerhouse I do have to admit that the ZF2 has better reception strength; we can be in the gym and she still gets signal and no one else gets anything, including me.
Before buying the Zenfone 2, I was using a HTC Desire 310 and before that a Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 (which was my first smartphone actually). Really like both those phones, but they were budget phones and they quickly started to have performance problems, since they were generally weak devices. That's why I thought I should use some extra money and buy a phone that would last me 2 years + . And decided on the Zenfone 2 ZE551ML after I researched details about it and saw that it has the best price/performance ratio for a 2015 phone. Still using it up to this day, after 2 years and a half, and I'm still happy with it. It works as if I bought it yesterday. The only problem I ever had with it was with the battery, last year in September, it started draining fast and the phone was shutting down when the battery meter was at 25%. Went to an Asus service, got the battery replaced in like 1 week and everything's been fine since then.
And well, what phone I want to buy next? No idea, maybe a Zenfone 3 or 4, since I'm satisfied with my current one.
There are a few phones I'd like to have, but I think I'd end up getting a Moto G4 Plus.
Since 2011 i used to Nokia 3310 until last month i buy ZE551ML , I think his has the best hardware from his gamme but the software is not worthy for it
My signature says it all, but many of those are my wife's, and the last thing I used was the LG L9.
Bought in 2013, its my first Android and still rocking today with AOSP 4.4.4, serving as my old man's everyday phone.
I would like another LG for its design and lightweight-ness, but they are quite pricey for mediocre hardware.
Zenfone 4 Max or Xiaomi 5X came into mind, but I can also settle for a refurbished iPhone 6s Plus (and jailbreak it right away LOL).
However, after searching around, Oppo F3 (or the newly announced F5) would really match my criteria for hardware, screen size, and the old-school dedicated slot for MicroSD.
Galaxy Nexus... and i still use it as a 2nd phone...

I had the Galaxy Nexus since it came out. Great phone but I think it is time for an upgrade. I was really considering the Nexus 5, but is there anything else I should be looking at. I'm not looking to have the newest best phone out there, just something more reliable and stable then GNex. Are the Moto G phones any good? If my next replacement can be under $200 and still be a huge upgrade then that would be perfect. The Nexus 5 phones any good? Any other phones out there worth looking into?
Thanks
G3 is high end spec and you can get it for free at most carriers. Love mine worth knock on and the rear buttons once you try it you would want it in every phone. This phone will blow the nexus out of the water and compete with all the top models. S5 iPhone 6 not 4. For the size of the screen its the smallest profile out there

My wife uses MotoG for half a year now and I'm really positively suprised by the stability of this phone. She has rebooted it only a few times since she has it. Performance is also good for a daily driver. I think it's a good mid-budget phone.

I have a nexus 6 as my daily but I also have a second gen moto G on T-Mobile running Lollipop 5.0.1 and it does very well. No LTE but a great phone for the money.
I got a nexus 4 used for 150.
Try craigslist.
Moto G 2nd Gen or Nexus 4
tried the Nexus 4 that I gave to my brother which he had updated to lollipop, hell my Galaxy S5 with Lollipop is jealous of how buttery smooth it is! Better go with Nexus 4 or Moto G 2nd Gen for that Bang of the buck stock android experience!
Went to the nexus 5. Best phone for me atm with still a relative small screen.
I didn't know I missed the gnex curve though.

You might also consider a nice Samsung Note 3 Neo, but considers that there revolve around many communities. I have bought one months ago a friend of mine, and I must say I was very satisfied in terms of performance thanks to six cores. :good:

For my usage I find gnexus still good. If I have to change my phone the choices are low budget or higher budget. Low: moto g 2013/2014, redmi 1s (soon redmi 2s), honor 3c, rumors about new oppo anti xiaomi. High: One plus one, lg g2/g3, mi3/4, nexus 5, meizu mx4. In my opinion there is not so much difference between gnex and low budget smartphone in daily usage. You can try to perform a factory reset if you find your gnex slow and install a custom rom. Moto g 2013 takes worst photos than gnex (I don't know about 2014). 1s has problems with stock miui and kernel source has not been published (not good for developers).
LolliGNexus
Sorry, I forgot about this thread. I completely overlooked the Nexus 4. Seems a MUCH more powerful phone then Galaxy Nexus and the Moto for under $150. Since GNEX is getting me by on heavy day to day use, I think Nexus 4 will be more then sufficient. thanks everyone for the help!
Easy, lightweight, slides right into my pocket, light enough to run wth, fell multiple times without breaking (although against swimming pool cement it did last week after 2.5 years). Need a new phone, I am thinking of the Galaxy S5 active as Ican upgrade on ATT, but I am a little dissappointed by the fact that there doesn't seem to be newer battery technology, and the existing battery technology advanced have been mulled by what I see as increases in hardware and processing power, pixel density that aren't really needed on a mobile device.
What is a good upgrade phone as far as ergonomics, battery life, and original development/replacement battery/memory card from the Galaxy S3?
I am using the ZenFone 2 and so far loving it, great processor, 4gb ram, fast charging and a great price

Is it similar to the GS3 in terms of size and weight? That's what the OP is asking about.

The Zenfone 2 is bigger than the GS3 at 5.5" screen size, but most phones fall somewhere in the 5 - 5.5" bracket these days unless you're buying the mini variant. The Zenfone 2 is about 30% heavier too, but between the larger form factor and a battery that is about 1/3 larger than the S3 the extra weight is definitely accounted for with features.
I was afraid the Atom processor might hold back the Zenfone 2 development scene, but I just recently read that at least one of the Zenfone 2 variants now has a CM 12.1 alpha. That didn't take long, but time will tell how custom ROMs actually perform on the device vs. stock because we know Asus and Intel will never release the complete x86_64 code. The price point on them is great for the hardware you get. I've been thinking really hard about picking one up myself. However, my old reliable S3 is really still working just fine and running Android 5.1.1 thanks to all the hardworking devs. I just can't convince myself that it is time for a change.
If running a desktop OS on your phone appeals to you, the Intel processor in the Zenfone 2 lends itself pretty well to that apparently. This could be nice trick if you have to interface anything that absolutely requires Micro$oft like corporate/business stuff. If I ever pick one up I might make a run at something like this with a lightweight Linux distro like Porteus.
Very cool phone for the $.

I haven't broke down and bought one yet, so I can't comment. Maybe go ask over in their forum.
I still have my eye on them. The zenfone 2 will probably still be my next purchase unless something more promising comes out between now and then. That's a beast of a phone for $200 - $300.
I'm on AT&T and their phones are a parade of locked down Samsung, LG, and Apple devices, and the AT&T Next thing that they push you towards is really just a payment plan if you do the math. They don't even really subsidize phones anymore. You'll come out way ahead by buying a zenfone 2 or maybe another cheap, used unlocked phone and adding it to their network, and you won't have to deal with their attempts to lock down your device. I'd defect entirely to Straight Talk or some other MVNO, but I haven't convinced the family that it's a good idea just yet.

Nah it's still pretty subsdizied especially if you can sell the upgraded phone two years down the line.
Hate to say it but a new phone in the same size category will be tough to fill as most screens are pretty large. Closest thing is probably the moto x, but it is older and you sacrifice removable battery. The LG G3 and G4 sorry removable batteries and had memory expansion but they are considerably larger.

Friend sold me his gs3 and he got a zenfone 2..he loves it.
Hey guys so this is my last day here at the G4 forum. Ditching my phone for an Oneplus 3.
I Wanted to create a thread where u can share information about your next device and why u leaving the G4.
For me it's clear. I have a sn 506 which thank god never bootlooped. I sent my phone after 12 months of usage in because of crazy screen burn in and they replaced me Motherboard processor and PCB. And it did get worse after that. Phone got unusable and the lack of Updates made my choice in direction to the OP3.
Goodbye Guys
I'm still using my LG G4 and I'm loving every bit of my experience with it. My next phone, when I replace it would be either LG G5 or LG V20.
Motorola are good phones, Samsung is great, I've used different models of those. But there is no other phone like LG when it comes to Androids. Best experience ever.
They aren't good at marketing their products like their competitors which makes them loose the market to less quality products out there. Otherwise, LG makes great phones. Remember the time when LG released LG Viewty? The whole world had that phone on their wish-list. They still make extraordinary phones.

Steering clear of any LG phones. The G3, G4, G5, and V10 all had bootloop problems. No thanks.
I am an Android fan and modder since 2013. I love(d) Android. So much customization, and I still like my G4 (except the fact if i hit it very weakly or it accidently jumps down the battery connection loses and it turns off). Few months ago I bought an iPad Air 2. I have to tell you, iOS is awesome. Lag? Not even a micro. Weaker hardware than G4 and runs much smoother. I also love iOS animations. Sorry Android, but.....
My new phone will be probably an iPhone 7 Pro/Plus, or a 7S.

One thing is sure..i will never buy any phone from LG,G4 is the worst phone I've had so far,for LG is best to produce dishwashers instead of smartphones, with my G4 i have problems with :red colored retention on gray colored parts of display, poor call quality ,call volume too low and distorted, terrible battery life, overheating, phone is 505 series it has has problems with everything except the camera ,and the damn thing does not want to die (bootloop issue) so I can get a new phone because I still have a year warranty on damn thing, never more LG smartphone ,next phone will be most likely iphone 6s plus or new coming iphone 7 i am just to tired of tweaking android so i can have a normal phone
My next device would either be a HTC or Nexus. I saw how the G2 and G3 had the bootloader unlocked eventually so I thought the same would happen. I then realized how much I truly needed it, life without AOSP feels so.. Slow.
HTC always seems to be spot on with their devices on the software level. Their camera need work but I'm not a photographer anyways.
Nexus is like a blank canvas and can be tuned to your liking. I'd probably go nuts with the options available.
Looking forward for V20,
Own att G4 with 506 serial and so far so good for my daily usage...even with my front camera have focusing issue but i'm not a selfie person.
Feel sorry for those who had bootloop issue with their device
I love the G4 but my confidence in it is basically shot. I've had it about nine months and it has had to go back for warranty repairs three times. Twice for screen issues and once for bootlooping. Add to that my non-carrier H815T is still on the January security patch, which is crazy. It's disappointing because my two previous phones (Nexus 5 and Nexus 4) were both also LG devices and were really good. But now every time my G4 has the slightest bump, stuff that I would normally just ignore as a quirk, I find myself sweating that it's about to start bootlooping again or get some other crazy hardware issue.
I'm going to wait and see what the new Nexus device is like when it's released in a few weeks. If that doesn't tickle my fancy then I'll have a serious look at a Samsung Galaxy S7.
Got a Oneplus 3 on the way. Going to sell my G4 SN 506 EU H815 even though it has had zero issues and in brief been a fantastic device. Just can't really gamble on it not developing bootloop. Plus OP3 has fingerprint scanner, excellent development and just generally a very well rounded device.:good:
If I drop my G4, then I will get a HTC 10 or one of the new Nexus devices. Depends on the price of course and if I had the money...:good: (So I don't know if ever...student life without money ftw!:silly: )
Moto Z Play
Good camera, good battery, thats all i need
My actually device is the LG G4, it's a good Smartphone, but I think the G3 was a bit better, it was easier to root and flash then the G4, the design from the G3 is so much better.
My next device is: LG V20, G5 or Nexus 6p
Sorry for my ****ing **** English
Though I'm pretty happy with my LG G4, having heard of all these bootloop and other issues, I probably won't be getting another LG device. From a design point of view, the G5 does not appeal to me one bit. Pretty much the same goes for the V20.
Having used a few smartphones now, I began to lean more towards stock Android, so probably a new Nexus device is on the horizon for me. OnePlus might be an option as well.
My boat with LG G4 has sailed. I enjoyed this device and now I have given it away.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I purchased the G4 on October 2015 and got the bootloop on December: so I sent it for repair before the holidays and they replaced the motherboard (IMEI and SN untouched), then I got it back on January. After this episode I've never had a single problem with this phone, I really love it, but at the same time I'm really disappointed about how LG (at least here in Italy) supports it (just a security patch after 8 months, when other phones get regular patches every month). Also, I red about many G4s that bootlooped again even if they were repaired the first time and now some V10s and G5s do the same thing too, so I'm a little bit afraid that bootloop might happen again. Patience, but I don't think my next phone will be another LG, I'm going to get an HTC (my One S was a really good phone and today for basic stuff is still OK) or an ASUS (I recently bought for my mum a Zenfone and it's fantastic) in the future. I usually change my phone every 3-4 years, so I have much time to think about this.
I love stability and camera quality in phones.
When I came back to Android I tied a few till I get at G4.
Loved Huawei Mate S and OnePlus 2.
But camera it's all G4, so ill stick with it till I get a better one.
For me it's only one bad thing about this phone, its the screen resolution - no point higher than FHD for a 5.5 screen and battery suffer cause of LG choice.
Rest I'm loving it.

This, probably - http://www.xda-developers.com/google-pixel-and-google-pixel-xl-coming-to-you-on-october-4th/
I'm not due an upgrade for a year, but my next phone will most likely be a Nexus (or Pixel/whatever they call them).
I've been running my optimus g pro for a little over three years now IIRC. I have it rooted, and running Cyanogen. However, the phone is starting to misbehave, and the third replacement battery is starting to fail. I think that it's time to upgrade, however, the optimus g pro has really spoiled me. I want my next phone to have a screen that's just as large, though I wouldn't argue with slightly bigger. I would like an upgrade to the processor, I really need an upgrade to RAM. I don't mind on board storage staying the same though (32gb). I would REALLY like to keep the replaceable battery as well. I looked at the google pixel, but it doesn't have the removable battery, and it's a little $$$ for what I would typically spend. I would rather not spend more than $300. I need GSM handset. Thanks for the help.
Edit to say that I would also really like vanilla android, or something that is easily rooted, and can be stripped of crapware. Thanks again!
One of best value for money is Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (on snapdragon 650) also known as Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro depending on part of the world.
http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_3_snapdragon-review-1477.php
Thanks for the info, I've started looking at the ZTE axon 7 Max. It doesn't have exactly what I'm after, but I checked out my brothers ZTE axon 7, and really liked it, the OS feels very stock.
If I remember correctly Axon 7 supposed to have one of the best sound quality on the market.
Since you don't want to spend more than 300$.... check Honor 5X. Yes, I know, it's more than 1y old, but last time I've checked it was 160$ online and it's really ok choice for that money.
I have it for 6 months now, it's okayish performer (Lineage is running really smooth), and nice low budget phone (FP sensor, 5.5" HD IPS, official Nougat support via Lineage & ROMS, unlockable bootloader, metal unibody, dual sim + SDcard - yes, two SIM slots + SDcard slot - but with Snapdragon 616 and 2GB RAM/16GB storage). EMUI is a bit problematic, but you have to use it only for a while, before you'll be able to grab unlock code and root
It is a 2015 device, but I think that currently there is nothing better running Snapdragon that falls under 200€ category (I hate to say, Xiaomi isn't my prime choice for various privacy and other reasons). I got mine for 100€ (~110$) as a 'quick' replacement between G Pro and next OnePlus, but I'll probably keep it a bit longer than that because it's running nicely on Lineage and has good development community.

I upgraded to Nexus 6 immediately after my G Pro. It has served me quite well.
I've been on a year-long hunt for a new phone SPRINT compatible, and they all seem like downgrades. here's my checklist of features and how important they are (10) or aren't (1) to me:
1. unlocked / unlockable bootloader WITHOUT need for exploits: 10
2. sdcard slot: 10
3. user replaceable battery: 9
4. 3gb+ ram: 9
5. 2.4 ghz or faster, quadcore or SYNCHRONOUS octa: 8
6. finger print reader: 7
7. infrared blaster: 6
8. likely to OFFICIALLY receive android 8.0 update: 6
9. optical stabilized camera: 5
10. quick charge 2.0 or better: 7
95% off all devices ever since my contract expired December 1st last year either fail at Sprint network compatibility, or bootloader. over time I'm gradually accepting defeat on user replaceable batteries ;(
closest candidate for me is the lg v20 but there's virtually no breakthrough features on it to justify a 2 year "upgrade" to it from the note 4
I had an s5, bought a used note 4 about 8 months ago. (I've been using smart phones for about 15 years, since the ppc6700)
Had an upgrade available, was in the same boat. Purchased a g6 and sold my note. I sold my g6 yesterday and bought another used note.
Moral of the story?
If your current model makes you happy and there isn't a new phone that will make you more happy... Perhaps it's time to keep what you have. The v20 is nice, but without a home button... How much of an upgrade is it really? What will it really do that you can't do now? Perhaps complete a task in 7/10ths of a second faster?
Save your money. I'll be sticking with the note 4 for a long time. In the evolution of cell phone technology, the note 4 was a major pivot point. I don't see anything out there that doesn't include disgusting compromises.
I do wish the note 4 was waterproof, but I'll live. Heck... I could buy several replacements (if I damaged it) for less money then I would spend on a new phone.

I remember coworkers (nicely) mocking me for using it. 'why would anyone want a big phone!' - couple of years later they all had their phablets.
Unfortunately, there is no upgrade that meets your requirements. When I broke my Note 4, I went with the Note Edge. Phone sucks compared to the regular note. I researched the V20, G6, G5. None of the current phones do what I want them to do. I almost got the V20, but xposed not being available for Nougat led me to get another Note 4. I think I'll be using Note 4's for the forseeable future. This has been by far my favorite phone, so I'm not complaining.
the LGV20 imo is the true successor to the note 4
made the jump 2 months ago and loving it
I refuse to buy a phone without an interchangeable battery......im a heavy user so stock batteries suck, I need my extended batteries
