What are you going to take after the G4? - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys so this is my last day here at the G4 forum. Ditching my phone for an Oneplus 3.
I Wanted to create a thread where u can share information about your next device and why u leaving the G4.
For me it's clear. I have a sn 506 which thank god never bootlooped. I sent my phone after 12 months of usage in because of crazy screen burn in and they replaced me Motherboard processor and PCB. And it did get worse after that. Phone got unusable and the lack of Updates made my choice in direction to the OP3.
Goodbye Guys

I'm still using my LG G4 and I'm loving every bit of my experience with it. My next phone, when I replace it would be either LG G5 or LG V20.
Motorola are good phones, Samsung is great, I've used different models of those. But there is no other phone like LG when it comes to Androids. Best experience ever.
They aren't good at marketing their products like their competitors which makes them loose the market to less quality products out there. Otherwise, LG makes great phones. Remember the time when LG released LG Viewty? The whole world had that phone on their wish-list. They still make extraordinary phones.

Steering clear of any LG phones. The G3, G4, G5, and V10 all had bootloop problems. No thanks.

I am an Android fan and modder since 2013. I love(d) Android. So much customization, and I still like my G4 (except the fact if i hit it very weakly or it accidently jumps down the battery connection loses and it turns off). Few months ago I bought an iPad Air 2. I have to tell you, iOS is awesome. Lag? Not even a micro. Weaker hardware than G4 and runs much smoother. I also love iOS animations. Sorry Android, but.....
My new phone will be probably an iPhone 7 Pro/Plus, or a 7S.

One thing is sure..i will never buy any phone from LG,G4 is the worst phone I've had so far,for LG is best to produce dishwashers instead of smartphones, with my G4 i have problems with :red colored retention on gray colored parts of display, poor call quality ,call volume too low and distorted, terrible battery life, overheating, phone is 505 series it has has problems with everything except the camera ,and the damn thing does not want to die (bootloop issue) so I can get a new phone because I still have a year warranty on damn thing, never more LG smartphone ,next phone will be most likely iphone 6s plus or new coming iphone 7 i am just to tired of tweaking android so i can have a normal phone

My next device would either be a HTC or Nexus. I saw how the G2 and G3 had the bootloader unlocked eventually so I thought the same would happen. I then realized how much I truly needed it, life without AOSP feels so.. Slow.
HTC always seems to be spot on with their devices on the software level. Their camera need work but I'm not a photographer anyways.
Nexus is like a blank canvas and can be tuned to your liking. I'd probably go nuts with the options available.

Looking forward for V20,
Own att G4 with 506 serial and so far so good for my daily usage...even with my front camera have focusing issue but i'm not a selfie person.
Feel sorry for those who had bootloop issue with their device

I love the G4 but my confidence in it is basically shot. I've had it about nine months and it has had to go back for warranty repairs three times. Twice for screen issues and once for bootlooping. Add to that my non-carrier H815T is still on the January security patch, which is crazy. It's disappointing because my two previous phones (Nexus 5 and Nexus 4) were both also LG devices and were really good. But now every time my G4 has the slightest bump, stuff that I would normally just ignore as a quirk, I find myself sweating that it's about to start bootlooping again or get some other crazy hardware issue.
I'm going to wait and see what the new Nexus device is like when it's released in a few weeks. If that doesn't tickle my fancy then I'll have a serious look at a Samsung Galaxy S7.

Got a Oneplus 3 on the way. Going to sell my G4 SN 506 EU H815 even though it has had zero issues and in brief been a fantastic device. Just can't really gamble on it not developing bootloop. Plus OP3 has fingerprint scanner, excellent development and just generally a very well rounded device.:good:

If I drop my G4, then I will get a HTC 10 or one of the new Nexus devices. Depends on the price of course and if I had the money...:good: (So I don't know if ever...student life without money ftw!:silly: )

Moto Z Play
Good camera, good battery, thats all i need

My actually device is the LG G4, it's a good Smartphone, but I think the G3 was a bit better, it was easier to root and flash then the G4, the design from the G3 is so much better.
My next device is: LG V20, G5 or Nexus 6p
Sorry for my ****ing **** English

Though I'm pretty happy with my LG G4, having heard of all these bootloop and other issues, I probably won't be getting another LG device. From a design point of view, the G5 does not appeal to me one bit. Pretty much the same goes for the V20.
Having used a few smartphones now, I began to lean more towards stock Android, so probably a new Nexus device is on the horizon for me. OnePlus might be an option as well.

My boat with LG G4 has sailed. I enjoyed this device and now I have given it away.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

I purchased the G4 on October 2015 and got the bootloop on December: so I sent it for repair before the holidays and they replaced the motherboard (IMEI and SN untouched), then I got it back on January. After this episode I've never had a single problem with this phone, I really love it, but at the same time I'm really disappointed about how LG (at least here in Italy) supports it (just a security patch after 8 months, when other phones get regular patches every month). Also, I red about many G4s that bootlooped again even if they were repaired the first time and now some V10s and G5s do the same thing too, so I'm a little bit afraid that bootloop might happen again. Patience, but I don't think my next phone will be another LG, I'm going to get an HTC (my One S was a really good phone and today for basic stuff is still OK) or an ASUS (I recently bought for my mum a Zenfone and it's fantastic) in the future. I usually change my phone every 3-4 years, so I have much time to think about this.

I love stability and camera quality in phones.
When I came back to Android I tied a few till I get at G4.
Loved Huawei Mate S and OnePlus 2.
But camera it's all G4, so ill stick with it till I get a better one.
For me it's only one bad thing about this phone, its the screen resolution - no point higher than FHD for a 5.5 screen and battery suffer cause of LG choice.
Rest I'm loving it.

[Q] Should I get the LG G3?

Hi guys! I'm in a bit of a dilemma here with choosing between the LG G3 or the Nexus 5. I actually owned a Nexus 5 already but dropped it making it unusable but aside from it breaking and the 2 hr SOT battery life, the Nexus 5 was already amazing to me. The LG G3 on the other hand is obviously a beast in hardware and it looks a lot sexier but I'm just worried that I might not get the software updates I deserve on the LG G3. I'm sure Android L will hit the G3 but as always, having a manufacturer in between you and Google in terms of updates can just make things complicated. I'm just wondering if the extra $200 (That's the difference of getting one here right now in the Philippines) is worth it for the G3.
I also want to know if there are any common issues or defects I should be looking out for because I got a 2nd hand G2 after breaking my Nexus 5 and it was great except that it was heating up so easily (from just browsing and texting even) and the battery life wouldn't get me more than 3 hrs SOT so I'm kind of hesitant in getting a non-Nexus device right now. So now I'm selling my G2 and I'm in a toss up between getting a new Nexus 5 or adding some cash to get the LG G3. Hoping you G3 owners could shed some light and help me decide.
Thanks!!

If the most important thing to you is to get Android updates ASAP, then a Nexus is your best option. The Moto-X (2013) got them almost as fast as the Nexus, so the new Moto-X (2014) probably will, too. But once the sale to Lenovo is completed, who knows if that will slow things down.
Any carrier branded phone will take longer to get updates. Including the G3. I think what the G3 offers over the Nexus makes the wait worthwhile, but not everyone will feel the same way.
I was in the same dilemma, and didn't know which one to get. I figured the Nexus 5 was getting a little out dated and the camera was much better on the G3. I have T-Mobile so I ended up getting the G3 becuase the bootloader was unlocked and the G3 had better hardware and design. I can't wait until a steady AOSP ROM is available. CM 11 is in Alpha stage in the G3 as of now.
Hei
So you guy´s think lg is going to unlock bootloaders as they said?
I´m very much in a dilemma between g3 and note 4...on note 4 there´s gonna be tons of custom roms etc. but not so sure about g3 tho?
But if cm11 is on alpha stage, it´s a very god start, everybody can live with cm11, aosp not needed that bad then!
What would you guy´s choose?

I returned my LG G3 the day the Note 4 was announced.
+ on the LG G3: form factor, rear buttons, max screen to size ratio, camera
- on the LG G3: display, display, display. Coming from a line of Samsung phones, the LG G3 display is dim and colors are underwhelming
+- i never had any trouble with lag, fast enough for me.
I think G3 is a new experience....its so smooth I am so happy with it ,.
About battery:at first time it still gor 9-12 hours , but know is 19- 22 hours ....?.
I thinks you should get it

Get it. Great phone, Display really is something else. Batterys not all that bad just not the leader in the market. Good UI. Not touchwiz crap. Get it haha
Well..I had to decide, too.
The LG3 has a fantastic display but has some issues.
Some people aren't able to make the audio output working in their cars, like me.
Additionally, the LG is a bit laggy, but there are workarounds available and very good working.
The features are stunning, battery is good and the material is fantastic.
I owned a Galaxy Note 2 and experienced that the G3 is close to perfection.
It is like getting a car.
A Volkswagen Golf is nice, but a Lamborghini is nicer.
=> If you aren't able to buy the LG G3, go for the Nexus 5.
In my opinion you have to buy the G3..
I test it yesterday , and the battery from100% to 18 % about 30 h ?.....indeed .....maybe no one will belive that? .....but it's truth?.......well .....with my special Using.

Disappointed by the LG Nexus 5X specs and price ... is the LG G4 still worth buying?

As the title says, I am really disappointed by the N5X price in Europe compared to the specs. Is the LG G4 still worth buying it?
Is the LG overlay acceptable? (This is the only thing which really holds me off buying the G4 at the moment, because I really love stock Android)
Is LG offering some stock Android experience? (like HTC did)
How fast the software updates get released?

This decision is really up to what features you find value in. I love my G4 and you would have to decide if you want a phone that has removable battery and expandable storage to say have fingerprint scanner and the latest OS. These phones are different in a lot of ways.

I picked up the G4 the day it came out,so I've had a good few months with it. Definitely no regrets. Coming from Samsung, it's a much less intrusive version of Android..... Than say... Touchwizz. It could benefit from extra features for battery saving mode like on the Sony or SAMSUNG, but it easily lasts me a day.
One of the best cameras, used it on my recent trip Italy, if you are into photography... You can have a lot of fun.
With every phone you will find +/-, but sure you can probably get a good deal on aG4, making it a real phone to consider.

I can answer one of those questions: the overlay is acceptable, because 99.5% of the time I don't see it because I use the camera/browser/gallery/app of choice, instead of playing with the settings. That might be different in your case, but since you asked I thought I'd answer.
Hell! I'd recommend the G4 over their 6P! For that European price, I'd 100% recommend the G4 over it!!! No doubt about it! You can get the G4 for 420 euros! The 6P will be 650 and I still think the G4 will compare just as well Or even better in the camera department and battery life. Nexus' aren't known for battery life. Neither is the LG, but hey! ...

I'm also looking at ordering the G4 after the disappointment of the 5X, but it looks like LG will always gimp Nexus devices so it won't compete with their own flagship.
LG seems to be the only manufacturer left that give all the choices for users, even Samsung is going Apple direction.
I find LG interface to be much more bearable than Samsung which to me personally is unusable. This is helped by the fact of on-screen buttons. But I'm just waiting for CyanogenMod availability.

Then you are not a typical nexus user. You are interested in nexus only because updates are regular and this keeps the value of your device up.
You really prefer to have the extra 'features' every non nexus device offers.
So is this the same as the OP or not.

86 in photo and 79 in video for both but one has 84 points and G4 83 points, anyways DxoMark just sucks, a french reviewer... never in low light
I'm disappointed in the 5x because of the faux look of dual front speakers when in reality one is just an earpiece speaker, nothing more and lack of qi charging, and same outdated storage options. Really don't care about the lack of RAM, not like I can tell a difference going from the G4 to nexus 5, though all of it is hard to justify at $380 when you pay $20 more and get 3gb of ram, a 5.7 inch 2k screen, and an SD slot by choosing a moto x pure edition. 5x specs would be fine with nexus 4 pricing tiers
To answer your question if you're a purist like me, LG UX will drive you bonkers. So much stuff they changed just to be different that doesn't really have a purpose. I like it overall OK but have already decided I'm going back to a nexus or a moto next year. Also the memory leak is in full effect on it as LG has written 5.1.1 off as "too minor to even bother with" which means it won't get fixed until you get marshmallow which probably won't be until 2016

That was quick but the most interesting scores are the N6P is top for texture in stills beating the S6 & G4 and beating both again for Noise by 4 points.
I think the comparisons of N6P against S6/G4 are going to be interesting, hard as it might be to believe, expect the N6P shots to look slightly better in details than the S6/G4. How to counter that ? reduce to 12MP on both, now noise & details will look sharper and the difference will be hard to tell. Still, this is an achievement for the N6P. The 6S+ did not get there. The Z5 did.
In terms of video stabilisation its a good ten points behind the G4 so jerky video.
12MP and 1/2.3" rear camera.
The big catch is that there is no OIS in either N5X or N6P, pretty shocking considering N5 & N6 had it. Go to the trouble to make a good camera and then leave out OIS. Seriously WTH!!!! So like the Z5 except the Z5 will have more features ootb. You better have good handholds a la xperia or M9 to get clear low light shots with these nexii.
What will the camera interface be like, google camera has always been very limited. 3rd party cams will be essential. And then we will find out just how slow the shutter gets to.
They left out wireless charging on both ! ok, i get it that morotola is crap at wireless charging but LG already nailed it with the 5, two years ago.
Course for those who want sd & removable battery, software is not going to be able to fix
I've just returned my LG G4 to get the Nexus 5x.
I loved the G4's camera but the bloatware, bluetooth issues, buggy smart unlock, constant notifications of "NFC may drain battery" when using my car dock, the big when you put it on charge, the bing when it finishes charging, the bing when you turn it on, the bing when you turn it off.... it stopped being an enjoyable device to use and it was all because of what LG had done to Android.
So I'm going back to stock android. Originally I was going to wait for a G4 AOSP or Cyanogen rom but with the announcement of the fantastic Nexus 5x camera I decided to make the move while I still could..
The feature list is cut down compared to the G4 but it is stuff I am not so concerned with. I've not used expandable storage since moving to use Google music, Photo, Docs, Keep and Drive. I've never used wireless charging, and I don't game on my phones so I am not worried about the 1gb less of ram, especially when my Nexus 4 uses nearly 1GB of ram less than the LG G4 when idling.
I got the G4 after trying almost all other phones out there. I had Z3, HTC One M9, S6, Nexus 6, Iphone 6, and now G4 and the G4 blows them all away.
It is quicker than the others, has no memory or multitasking issues contrary to some minor views in this thread, the bluetooth, 4g and wifi work perfectly, smart lock works fine too, the camera beats all of the other phones I owned, and the battery life is equal to if not better than all at 5 Hours SOT at 60% screen brightness.
The new google launcher is AWFUL so wanting that is just nonesense, and the LG launcher has replaced Nova for me, because it's just as customisable.
Nexus fans won't want it though because they want Stock = Boring, and prefer the boring look to a decent camera and features. Anyone expecting the new Nexus devices to actually have decent real world camera is praying to the wrong gods.
I have no memory leak issues with my Verizon model, and love 95% of this phone.
Coming from a Nexus/Moto X background, I find LG's ui decent and mostly easy to use. There are 2 or 3 little annoyances in how settings are accessed, but Nova Launcher fixes most design issues - an icon pack and new screen layout, plus gestures to shortcut to the settings I use most.
I world consider rooting to clean up the other small issues, but I'm a regular Android Pay user do I'm holding off until that all shakes out.

Im a huge nexus fan ive owned all of them from the first HTC to the last motorola. I bought the g4 blindly to test the non nexus waters and this phone has blown me away especially after the updates and the camera is super amazing and no nexus can or will beat it. Dont get me wrong ill probably grab the new nexus 5 based on stock so i can have fun rooting and putting custom roms on it, but besides having cutting edge software it will be my secondary phone and ill stick with my g4 for everyday use. To be honest im a crack flasher and it feels good to not have that urge with my g4, i got root and thats all i needed to get rid of some things and add xposed to tweak it a bit. Very happy with my g4 and will likely get the g5 when it drops.

Hello, I bought the G4 for about a month and it has no problem till now. Everything is OK. The body design is a little bend and quite comfortable playing with the phone. But the price is a little bit expensive for me. I was impulsive to buy it. Fortunately it performs well overall.

Yes. In terms of hardware, it's about even up. And the G4 also offers a miniSD slot, exchangeable battery, and nice back covers. Only possible drawback might be the battery live, probably mostly thanks to the G4's insane resolution.

I don't like the LG icons, but that can be easily changed by using a different launcher like Nova. Also, the colors for toast messages and quick settings are a bit bright (cyan). And the mobile data protocol (LTE, G3, ...) is displayed as own icon instead of small text in the reception bar icon. Most of the rest can easily be ignored or even be disabled in the settings.
But a lot of this (and more) can be modified even without unlocking the bootloader. You can flash rooted ROMs via the cable firmware update screen, and then use FlashFire to flash other ZIP updates like Xposed or themed variants (warning: very slow...).
With the European H815 version, you can also unlock the bootloader, but you'll lose warranty, and it can't be unlocked. But it'll allow you to flash "more AOSP" ROMs. (Official CM12 is work in progress, but there's an inofficial port available.)

Android M at least has been announced for the G4. I guess it's hard to tell even by LG's developers, as it depends on the changes made by Google.
But then, the changes made since Android 4.1 aren't that impressive anyway IMHO, and several recent updates had some teething troubles, so maybe it's not so bad to wait a bit longer...

Why G4 price went down to $350?

Anyone knows why the price for the G4 went down to like $350? Like I can buy a new G4 from Tmobile for only $350, when the G5 is not even outo yet? And the G4 was just release about half a year ago?
Lg phones always go down. They go down more than any other phones so expect the LG G5 will be down in 6 months to the $300
As said, LG phones get cheap really quick. Plus, the device itself doesn't feel any expensive, so it's no surprise for to see it at that price.
the G5 is coming out soon. Same thing happening with the galaxy s6
is so that they want you to buy the phones that will be on the shelves.. they need to get rid of it..
As mentioned, between the V10 and G5, this phone is becoming more and more outdated. I'm sure the bootloop fiasco didn't help, either.
What's odd is when I was hit with the bootloop, I was going to go back to the G3 but they still wanted almost $400 for it, despite the G4, V10, and upcoming G5.
Don't worry the G5 will have the same depreciation

I'm personally finished with LG mobile devices. The G4 has been a nightmare. When it's used without being rooted, the icons and navigation bar are huge. Looks like its designed for the visually impaired. Back to the Nexus 6p for me.

yeah... LG i'm done with them too, it's actually more expensive to buy an LG's device than an IPhone if you change every year.

whats with the bootloop problem. it cant be fixed? must it be fixed by LG?
Bootloop can be fixed. You need to send your G4 to LG for the fix.
Count me in the group that's done with LG. They fixed my bootloop but sent my phone back with a messed up camera. I planned on using this thing for photos on my honeymoon, too.

Upgrade to G4 or G5

Hi everyone, I am drawing to the end of my contract with Three, and currently have an LG G3. I have noticed that they now offer the LG G5 as an upgrade option, so i am torn between the G4 and the G5. I have had a problem with the G3 that required LG to have the phone for about 2 months to fix, which has left e with a bit of a bitter taste. Since its came back it has been ok, so i wondered what peoples thoughts were regarding the G4 or G5. I question how long the G5 will last if you are constantly plugging and unplugging the modules in the bottom (ooer) so any advice would be great, cheers

As a satisfied G4 owner, I'm not considering an upgrade to the G5, it's not that giant leap forward...
In my opinion all depends on how much are you going to spend for the G5 over the G4: if it's a small amount, go for the latest, otherwise stay with the G4 and you'll be happy with it

As g4 owner ,i don't think switching to g5 is an upgrade because of few reasons:
1.the button from switching modules it wont last longer than few months (we all know what is going to happend with buttons like this)
2.camera still the same (wide angle camera is not a necesity ,at least not for me)
3.battery still the same
I will be waiting for lg g6.
I'm not disappointed at all with my g4,great photos (manual mode is a beast) ,great display, great speed and battery life depends in how you use the phone .
cheers chaps
unless you wanna use those additional modules, i would rather stick with G4.

Agreed.. also, the current G4s are coming out with S/N: 600+ (my new UK unbranded one is SN 620), so the bootlooping issue should be solved... and, best of all, your G4 contract will be MUCH cheaper than a G5 one.
Its a great device...

You might regret doing that... Inferior camera, No SDCard (on s6) and worst of all... childish and cartoony TouchWiz, where you get loads of duplicate.. S apps and google apps.. for example.. S Voice and Googler Voice, S Note or Google Docs or Microsoft Word., Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive... thats apart from all the "S" apps ... yes its all on the S6 and its all bloat to deal with...
Worst of all Samsung are now becoming the Apple of the Android world, where their devices are alot more expensive than other Android phones
Go for the G4
If you can handle a larger phone, get the V10. It's everything you'd love about the G4 in a more durable body and with a larger screen. I held one in store and it felt great. Made me regret my launch day G4 purchase.
I wouldn't even consider the G5.

I agree. LG completely lost me with the G5, not that I would have considered a new phone by choice this year anyway.
I also wouldn't recommend the G4 due to its bootloop problems, and having a new one doesn't really guarantee you a thing since people have reported 604s having bootloops as well.
The V10 has been out long enough to presumably not be plagued with the same type of issues, and you would also hope that LG didn't somehow manage to screw the pooch for all of 2015, because then that would mean that they released three flagship duds in a row over the past year.
I would have upgraded to G5 only for the fingerprint sensor, it's a good to have feature.

Thinking about buying the 5x

So I'm coming from a Sony Z3C and due to the lack of support (no Nougat for us) and development (no proper CM for us) I'm thinking moving to another device.
I'm taking into consideration Sony XZ/X as well as the S7, but none of them have development going on due to various reasons. So no development is not a solution for me.
Would you still recommend buying the 5X after mote than a year since the release? Do you enjoy yhe phone? Or do you have any recommendation? I don't have enough money for a Pixel, nor buy a phablet.
Thanks!
Nexus 5x devices have something like sudden death issue, motherboards die in a random moment. After replacing motherboard on warranty you will be no longer able to root your phone (or you will get your money refund)
So in that case, I wouldn't recommen this phone. This phone is great if it's working without any issues, but LG at the backs means that will not.
Do no buy nothing LG. Go for the Huawei 6p.

6P is too big
I can recommend. I have this phone since june this year, and as far its the best phone i had. No lag, manual camera + raw, exelent photos, fast update, great developer support and that fingerprint reader wich i LOVE. Only i can complain about size (little bit too small for me) and battery wich is average. From 7AM to 8PM and have 15% left (~4 hours SOT). It's the best phone so far. I am also Sony fan (or i will say "was") mine last Sony device was Z2 (neo v, S, T, Z, Z1).
Also build quality is crap. My Nexus Inprint plastic is shiny now (was mate). Also plastic round the phone is shining (always in mercury case). I can send a photo how it looks.
Phone is really good AND ITS CHEAP.
Wouldn't recommend battery life is horrendously bad.

I would recommend an LG G4 or a Moto X pure, both are more or less the same price i believe, and they are much better than the 5x in terms of a more premium feel and better performance (3gb ram vs 2gb on the 5x :/ ) I have had mines about 5 months and it's not to bad, but it still bugs me till today that there were better devices i could have gotten, guess i should have done more research , btw the oneplus 2 is also a great device for around the same price and great support and performance.

I already said that I'm not intetested in bigger phones, that's why I got my eyes on the 5X but thanks
Don't ever buy a LG G4! It is the king of the bootloopers. All the 2015 LG flagship's have that issue G4, G FLex II, V10, V20, now G5 (2016) and well Nexus 5x too...
There is no solution for that failure. Motherboard replacement is not a deffinitive solution cause they never made a revisión or something to correct the mistake.
Have you seen the Xperia z5 compact? Very small size and powerfull. Thats the phone i want to get.

Xperias have problems with development because of the DRM partition - meaning no AOSP/CM ROMs working properly as a daily driver (I got a Z3C so I know). The Z5C sounds cool, but it has the not so acclaimed Snapdragon 820 with overheating issued, and as a Sony user I can say that the camera is horrid. Good sensor, horrible code optimization. Last, but not least, it may not get further than N. My phone didn't get N due to whatever reason, despite not being even 2 yrs old. The new XC or XZ looks nice. But even rooting requires unlocked bootloader, which leads to loss of DRM keys, which means loss of camera functions (noise reduction, low light shots, making it even worse than it is) and warranty.
For the old Z series there was something called TA Backup which made it possible to copy and restore the keys. For the new ones this isn't possible.
So here I am. Not knowing what to buy again due to the 5X problems..

I know, right? It's so hard to get a properly working phone. Not overpriced (Pixel), or bigger than 5.2" at most (means without OP, LG, HTC, Motorola) which has dev support (not like Sony or Samsung) and no hardware issues (see 5X). This basically puts me in a situation without a choice.

Exactly, i totally agree. Pixel is not a choice (is like an iPhone for me, you pay for how it looks) i just want something "small" 5.2" max not a phablet even the budget phones like moto g4 have 5.5 inch screen, really too big al least for me. I miss the nokia n73, moto razr v8, those were good little phones haha (i really like physical keyboards, but i know, that would be imposible in this times).

If you can get it cheap enough it's worth it even if it messes up. I had a nexus 6 and it was too large. Like you I don't like jumbo phones. The 5x is very light. Some may say it feels cheap but I like it BC it is sturdy and light. It certainly won't bend. Right now there are not many options. The camera aid good and it runs smooth despite 2GB of ram. There the bootloader issue but for cheap enough it's worth the risk to me. I love it as a daily and it fits much better in my suit pants than the other huge phones right now.
It is really sad that I got so few good reviews related to this phone. I guess I'll watch if the development of the new Xperias gets to the point where the DRM partition gets a possible backup and buy one of them....such a shame since Nexus was the most dev friendly.
Even subway surfers drops frames , probably cause of temp throttling (on stock), im really disappointed with this device and google... If i knew of bootloop problem and this temp throttle wouldn't buy it...no chance...

I'm very confused... I cannot decide whether the Nexus 5X would be a good deal or not: someone claims about (serious!) problems, someone says it's very good... I was a very lucky Moto G 2014 owner, but unfortunately its life came to an end. I wanted a quite cheap phone (maximum 270€) with an active development that can let me hope I will receive latest android versions (cyanogenmod) in a couple of months and I tought about a Nexus 5X, but if it has so many problems, is it better to find an alternative?

I've been facing the same problem for the past year or so, just because there haven't really been any devices that I could see as a replacement for my i9100. I finally made my decision though and I'm picking up a 5X tomorrow. If you want an affordable phone with a lot of custom ROMs and even long official support (especially rare with android), you don't have much of a choice. Of course there is the risk of that bootloop issue appearing, but that's what you have a warranty for. If the issue comes up a year later, you'll most likely get a refund and you've basically had a phone for a year for free. Plus I've also read speculations that Google tried to put the blame on LG, as pretty much every case of this bootloop issue happened after updating to Nougat. My guess is that there was an issue with thermal throttling not working right in the early Nougat builds for the 5X which made the phone more prone to failure. In that case I would say they've already fixed it but who knows..

Thanks Daniel, I was thinking to buy it at the end of the next week.. If yours arrives before that date, would you please be so kind and let me know how does it work?
And what about low RAM and poor audio quality? They were the main reason that stopped me from buying it till this afternoon, when I read this post. Are they really a problem?
