I've never used a skin/wrap before and bring averse to bulky cases I thought I might give them a try.
If you've used them before I'd like to know more about your experience: ease of application, residue after removal, durability/longevity, feel and overall satisfaction.
I returned my XZ1 compact and have pre-ordered a pixel 2 and would like to have my accessories in place when it arrives.
Thanks for the feedback!

I've used them. I like them but almost always wind up taking them off - don't really know why honestly. I didn't think anyone was shipping yet for the Pixel 2 but I could be wrong. My thoughts
Easy to apply, use a hair dryer and be patient
No residue after removal
No issues with longevity. They seem to stick around. Sometimes at the beginning you get a lot of dirt trapped along the edges but that goes away.
The biggest thing for me is grip and honestly none of the regular skins offer anything meaningful. Even the dragon one from Dbrand which was supposed to be super grippy didn't feel noticeably different to me than a regular skin. Dbrand has a narrow scoped, predictable, good product and great customer service. Meaning, they aren't offering crazy variety but just offering what they know works reliably. SlickWraps goes out of their way to make unique textures and materials such as natural wood and leather. Many people have had a ton of CS issues with them though. My favorite skin of all time is Alcantara from SlickWraps as it is soft touch and grippy but it does not go all the way around and also is rather thick.
I usually wind up with something like Peel as a case.

We're shooting for this Friday
My first time trying a wrap. I'm not a fan of cases. But this just feels and looks like I have a sticker on my phone - especially on the curved backside corners.
It also collects fuzz like crazy. I'll be pulling mine off when my case gets here, out maybe just leave it on in my case.

Unless you go the natural selection, they are literally stickers lol. That fuzz collection will stop once the residual adhesive on edges fades
Anyone else have experiences with skins on this phone
Anybody know if there is a camera lens protector available? I'm worried about scratching it, but I don't want the bulk of a case.

I'm looking as well, when I had a Nexus 5 couple years ago. I think slickwraps or possibly dbrand was selling lense film protectors for it, but I have yet to find one for the pixel2

I just wanted to add my feedback on the dbrand dragon skin.
The dragon skin has a really nice leathery feel and definitely adds grippiness to the phone.
However, the one down side of using a full back + side skin is that because the physical power and volume buttons don't protrude very much from the phone, you kind of lose the tactile feel of them.
Kind of torn as to keep or peel it off. It is kind of weird not to be able to feel the power and volume buttons
Anyone get anything like Alcantara yet?

Do you get the sense that a case would fit over the skin? I'm considering one, but wouldn't necessarily want to remove and ruin it if I opted for a case afterward.

I used the spigen case over the dbrand skin for a couple days and it fit just fine. However, I decided I preferred no case - the dragon skin feels really nice with great grip.
One thing I do recommend from dbrand is to get a glass skin (or use the bonus one that's included) in addition to your normal full skin. The doubling up (or even tripling) of skins on the glass section make it just high enough to clear the stupid camera bump, and hopefully help prevent it from scratching when putting your phone on it's back.
I prefer clear TPU skins. They add significant grip on your hands and don't slide on flat surfaces. Plus, they are clear so you don't hide the phone's design.

Yikes. I've never seen anything like this. I believe I've had both Dbrand and SlickWraps, and both have been great, no fuzzies, and go on clean and tight. I had a nice light and dark wood (stickers only) for my Note5. I also have a real leather one that I never used, and may try to "mod" it for my Pixel 2 XL that's in the mail (so excited!!). I hate to see that nice leather go to waste. But it probably won't match up well and will probably look super-wanky. We'll see.
And the Pixel 2 looks like it may have the Nexus 5 soft matte back, am I wrong? Skins may not stick quite right, as opposed to the glass-back of the Note5.
(edit: just realized we have a Pixel 2 XL forum as well. I thought they'd just use one, but apparently dev is diff for each? Interesting...)

These are very nice thin and light hard case that will give light protection for your phone while still being stylish. My two case came in the other day (Black/Gray). I have not receive my One yet but the cases feel real nice in the hand. So if you are looking for a thin and light case, give these a shot.

Hey smooth,
Thanks for the pics - are these textured on the inside? It seems they could cause scratching to the back and sides on the phone while being shifted around.

Yes they have the same finish as the outside. It's hard to explain but it feels really smooth so I doubt its going the scratch the phone.
It actually feels a bit smoother on the inside. It's barely discernible, but it's there. My fingertips are well tuned, thanks to my woodworking.
It's a fantastic case, but offers almost zero screen protection. If that works for you, $6 from Amazon (US) can't be beat.

Appreciate the responses, may have to pick one up.
Picked up a green one for 5.99 with Prime shipping. I like it a lot, the texture is real nice, and it is a real tight fit so I dont think it will be moving around in the case, I have taken it on and off a lot in order to show people my nice aluminum phone., and have yet to notice any scratches though you do have to be careful taking it out of the case, as I said it is a tight fit. But Overall I really like the case, it really does offer almost 0 protection. It looks nice and feels nice. My one issue with the volume buttons are a bit difficult to press with it on and it kinda feels like it is something I could make if I had a 3d printer, very thin. Someone who is looking for a real protective case can look elswhere, this is almost all about style.
I just got my phone and this is how it look like in the black case:
Sorry for the poor lighting!
Very nice! I just ordered the gray one from amazon because my poetic borderline case is taking forever to ship. Hopefully this case will give just the right amount of protection.

I ordered some myself the other day. Even though they haven't arrived yet, they look very similar to the ROCK Quicksand cases they made for the Galaxy S3, and HOX. I'm just not digging their logo on the back... I'll probably remove it somehow.
bought the blue one. coming in on monday
great thin case
I really like this case. The texture is superb and sublime. Just enough to barely feel. There are just a couple of things that could be improved to make this case perfect for me.
1) The lip at the corners is slighly recessed and the corners should wrap around the phone a bit more. Almost every time I drop a phone it lands on a corner and with this case it's possible the aluminum could take the impact.
2) Lose the SIM tray cutout.
3) I'd feel better about putting the phone face down if the lip was just a half millimeter higher.
4) Power button cutout isn't quite cutout enough. It should be like the usb cutout which is perfect.
5) Volume cutout is just a bit 'sharp'. I wish the edges were smoothed a bit.
That said, these are nitpicky items and more like suggestions I guess. I would endorse this product.
Galaxy S4 cases
New to the forum. Anyone has suggestions regarding cases for Galaxy S4? There are so many choices out there. Just got confused easily.
I used to have a Bear Motion wallet case for my note and loved it. They seem to have the same wallet case available for S4.
But, I really want to have something simpler this time around. Any suggestions for a snap on case?
Same quality and fitment as Incipio and Spigen @ only $5.99... You can't beat em!
I have the Bear Motion case in grey, and yes, it's definitely a nicely fitted, slim, grippy case. However, the rubbery texture DOES begin to wear off with time. The coating on the edges on the front corners of the case have begun to wear off, revealing grey plastic underneath. Fortunately, it does blend fairly well so it isn't much of an eyesore. Hopefully you'll be able to see what I mean from the attached picture.
Hey there fellow XDA members and nexus 5 owners first post on the forums here and I have a question about a case hopefully someone can chime in here. So since receiving the phone I've been in search of the perfect slim case to fit my needs. So far I have tried the ringke and spigen ultra thin cases and I like them very much, low profile and enough protection where I need it. Anyway in an effort to quit blindly buying anymore cases thought I'd post here since the community is quite big. I just found this case on Amazon:
MOD EDIT: Referral Link removed
Looks like a decent case that would provide good protection all around and that clear gray color must be really nice. My question is has anyone purchased this case yet? If so how do you like it? I don't have any experience with this particular company but they do offer quite a lot of products. If no one owns this yet though I might have to take the dive. Thanks in advance for your input.

Poetic makes decent cases. I had an Atmosphere on my One but they suffered from problems with the rubber separating if you pulled the phone at the case. It looks like they may have solved that issue on this model by making the rubber go down farther. For $5 I will probably end up trying one out.
Awesome, does it add a lot of bulk to the phone or is it fairly slim?

The case does not add much bulk to the phone at all, IMO. A mini-review follows:
The style of this case is impeccable, in that it mostly stays out of the way to let the Nexus 5 shine. I have the white back N5, and the Atmosphere’s clear back shows off the vibrant color well. This is not a frosted back; it pretty much is completely clear, with strategically placed lines of rubber for the camera and also for reducing the slipperiness of the backend. The same matte gray rubber goes around the border and raises above the screen to provide a slight lay-on-table lip. Finally, the buttons are covered, but the buttons are still responsive, the lock button more so than the volume rocker.
The Google Nexus 5 is a very light phone. The lightest I’ve owned, actually. With the the Atmosphere on, it remains a slim, light phone. So while I want to protect this device, I also don’t want to weigh it down. I liked the Atmosphere case from from Poetic previously for the Nexus 4, and I was very happy with it, but I read about some durability problems. It remains to be seen if the Nexus 5 case will have better longevity, but I can say the rubber on this does feel sturdier than in the past reiteration. I am quite happy with this purchase. From this Nexus 5 version, I totally agree that this company does listen to feedback and keep making improvements. I am going to continue to support them through future devices.

I just got it in the mail today and so far so good. I had the same case on my HTC One the entire time I had the phone and the case was great.
I had an issue the the first Atmosphere case for my HTC it started coming apart. I contact the manufacture they stated there was a defect, they sent me a new case free of charge and let me keep the old one not that I wanted it. The 2nd case never had an issue. As soon as I found the Atmosphere for the Nexus 5 I ordered it. Good case and good customer service... cant beat it.

In any "case" (no pun intended) they come with a 3yr warranty so it's a great buy.
I'm a warranty kind of guy and 3 years sounds pretty solid for a case. (No pun intended either) Lol
One thing I forgot to mention in the OP, I purchased the spigen crystal shell which is completely clear and had an issue that many others had with the flash showing a glow on pictures caused by the case being lit up or possibly the cutout itself. Anyone who has it care to test that out? If its not an issue here poetic has my business.

Awesome I was waiting for pics! One question though does the case provide a "seal" against the back of the phone near the earphone jack, camera, and USB port? And what I mean by that is if there is any gaps from where the case and the phone meet? Because that's what I hate with other clear cases, that they have gaps and let dirt and dust in which makes the case look dirty and I have to remove it to clean it often... So if this case is well sealed I think I'd buy it!
how easy is it to take on and off? my gf has the atmosphere for her one, and while it's a great case it's not the easiest to remove. I only use a case at work, so it's getting taken off at the end of the day
GhostNGoblins91 said:
I can't really say for sure as I don't have a large headphone jack myself, but you can see how the headphone port cutout looks on the last image I attached in my review.
I should have mentioned this in my review: this case IS difficult to take off. The fit is very tight and I wouldn't want to have to take this case on and off everyday. This is more of a put-on and leave-on sort of case.

So does dust or lint get inside the phone? or does it seem like it would? (since you have the white one you probably wouldnt notice as much) But this is the only thing keeping me from getting it!
GhostNGoblins91 said:
I hadn't had a chance to notice this, but I did wipe down both the Nexus 5 and the case interior before putting it on. The seal is pretty tight around the edges, so I don't anticipate too much dust coming in, but we'll have to see.

What about the seal by the headphone jack and micro usb and speakers? does the rubber come in contact with the phone or is it fairly close? Cause thats where most of the dust and debris get in from sticking it in and out of pockets. Thanls for all the info I appreciate it!
I have one
I bought it on Amazon in November for only $0.01 with $4.96 for shipping. I have the white nexus and I love the contrast in the back of the black lines. In addition, also does not overlap my screen protector from XtremeGuard, this combination works perfectly protecting my phone. On Youtube are a good review of the case.

Maybe I'm wrong, but seems like most skins out there are smooth. Does any company make some with some raised texture/tactile feedback to them? Preferrably one that does not look like carbon fibre. I was thinking of getting a replacement wood back, but i came to the realization it would probably be just as smooth. I need something a little more grip, but never saw a case that I liked (too much bulk)

not sure where you'd like the texture to be, but I use this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CIMO-S-LINE...Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&var=&hash=item3386a10333
it's got the kung-fu grip on the side, no drops for me thus far.
by texture I mean something to give it more grip, instead of smooth, slick surface. I'm not sure how to classify it other than texture

Haven't seen any skins with a textured back. I agree on cases - too bulky for me. I like them like my women - thin with some curves.
But given that most folks hold their phones on the side, I'd be surprised to see a skin with a textured back.
Sorry I could not help.
Good luck.
Slickwraps has leather skins, I'm not sure that would be what you're looking for though.. The other options seem to be smooth too. Haven't actually felt them but I intended on buying one for my m8 thinking it may help counter its slipperiness.

The dbrand one I got is textured but smooth. Like it has a wood texture ( really faint lines that are actually like cuts in the skin) that make the wood look very realistic but they're not much to feel and the back is still pretty smooth and slipper. For grip I'd recommend the clear back screen protector from xtremeguard. Its like that plastic rubbery clear material, which is pretty invisible but looks glossy and adds a lot of grip to the back which keeps it from slipping or getting any scratches.
I know it's not a skin and you don't like cases, but Bear Motion makes a very thin shell which protects the back and sides nicely and is textured. I've had one for quite a while and love it. It isn't bulky like most cases. Only drawback is that it covers the dimple.

I've been looking at those and considering one, but wanted to see if i could find something similar but even less bulky (like the vinyl skins). I had a similar one for my nexus 4 that was unbranded, and i really liked it. i think the term used to describe it was 'quicksand' http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/accessories/quicksand-case-pic-t2434950.

I think the Bear Motion brand is marketed as Sand texture. Something interesting that I've noticed is that on mine which I bought in late 2013, there isn't a separator between the power and volume keys, but on my wife's which was purchased early 2014, there's a small piece of plastic between the buttons. It's a little easier to find which buttons are which on hers. Not sure if it was a design change, or whether it's color dependent (mine's black, hers is blue).
Got my Poetic Affinity Case in today and figured I'd write a quick review. These poetic cases are very similar to UAG in looks and design but for 1/3 of the price. They are single peice hard poly carbonate and very ridged. Overall a nice design with a clear back to show off the beauty of your aluminum backed phone, offer a nice lip around screen for medium drop protection. My only issue is that the buttons are a little stiff but I suspect they will break in over time. I'm satisfied with my purchase and feel like it was a really good deal at around $10. It plays well with my spigen crystal screen protector and offers a good grip and feel in hand. If you guys have any questions feel free to ask. Sorry for the quality of the pics all I has was an s3 to take them.
how is the grip on it?
I had the Spigen Bumper Premium and it was still too slick for me..
Right now i have this case.. Zizo armor.. Super grippy.. but had to modify the power opening.. plus it squares off the phone and doesn't really show the HTC Beauty..
i got a Poetic Affinity case, it's a PIA to take it off if you want to, after the second time i took it off never put it on again, using Orzly FlexiCase now

in all honesty the case looks and feels good, great grip, my 2 issues with it was the taking it off because its harder "plastic", and the other issue was that the case doesn't exactly fit on top of the back of the phone, so it gets a lot of dust under there and you're gonna want to clean it.
If you can manage to take it off better than i could i would recommend the case, makes the phone a lite more bulkier but shouldn't be a problem, it wasn't for me.
I just got the Spigen rugged armor today, it's really great too, using it now!
IMO:
Poetic: good protection and good looks, still showing off your metal
Spigen Armor: good protection and good looks, no metal show off
Orzly crystal: not as good protection (thinner) but still good, and very transparent
Sorry for mentioning other cases on this thread but those are the 3 i got and i can give my opinion on

well my case came today...
First Impressions:
Good:
1. Case feels premium.
2. Phone has great grip and texture.
3. Cutout for charger seems to be large enough for all my chargers, but will test more later.
4. Clear plastic is thick and doesn't have any tinting.
5. Cutouts for camera and speakers and mics seem perfect.
6. Buttons work great and have grip on them.
Bad:
1. Headphone cutout is small, should work for standard headphone plugs, but for a computer speaker plug in, it will not fit.. i may need to modify.
It will be interesting to see how the case does after a few days of testing... hopefully it will hold up as I really like the style and feel.
Thank you.
Shadows?
Came across this case the other day in my internet travels looking for something similar to my Supcase Unicorn Beetle Hybrid for my M8. The only case SC has for the 10 looks like a gawd damn brick. Ok for some, just not me. So, my question is, can anyone please confirm whether photos taken in this case cause any kind of blur, or shadow, from the cut out. I'm not talking about the known issues with lens flare here too, just to clarify. I've never owned a clear case but have heard of some that do cause a shadow (I am assuming a reflection from flash off the clear cut out).
Cheers.

since they are completely cut out, should not have any interference.

only complaint after 1 day use was the headphone plug too small for the larger plugs.. like for computer speakers.. so i used a round file and widened it..
so now its perfect.. great grip. love how it shows off the phone.. slim and shaped like phone.

That's exactly what i'm looking for. Thanks for the replies J4G, and the review.
Hey man, I was just about to purchase from Amazon, thought i'd read through some of the reviews and some people are advising where the camera cut out is, the case sits up off the phone a little (i.e. not flush with phone), allowing debris in through the cut out. Looks flush from your last pic. Is this true?? I really don't mean to sound pedantic want to make sure I'm happy with case before I pull the trigger cause there's none to be found in Oz and I don't want to have screw around with returns.

from what i can see, that does appear true... I haven't seen much dust and debris get in there.. however i have only had it on a few days. :silly:
I will say that a lot of people said they are a pain to get off.. however I can attest that mine is like any other case.. it does hold on well, but just peel back a corner and then work on another corner, it pops right out.. so should be easy to clean..
Just received some of the Clear X-Level TPU case I found and ordered, it is .78mm with clear matte edges all around that feel great in hand.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/YNDccnTmGaIv250z1
The case is similar to the 'MNML' case in that it does not provide a lip for the screen, but it does hug the screens curves to provide a bit more protection in case of accidental drops since it is made of TPU. Dont get me wrong, it is not not a drop proof case at all, but even thin TPU material can absorb more of an impact than hard plastic, and with a good screen protector you're set. The camera is also ever so recessed enough that it wont hit flat surfaces when placed on them. The buttons are also feel great and tactile.
The only thing that may bother some, but doesn't bother me since it isnt that noticeable from afar, is that even though it has the "dot buffer" most clear tpu cases have, it still shows some "water markings" where the case meets the back glass. This is likely because of how thin the case is, and how the back glass curves and melts into the 2 XL's corners. The case will also likely yellow and scratch over time, but that is why I got a small supply lol. I'll be able to swap them out as needed since it will be my daily for a while.
(On a side note) If anyone is interested I would also be wiling to sell some of the extra I have. I know it sounds like an ad for me to sell... but I just feel I got more than I needed.. and it seems these are hard to get in the US for some reason. So if you are just let me know, id do $12 shipped, first class, US. If you want more than one Id do a deal cause of shipping as well! If I have more than one left i want to sell that is lol
I find matte finish slippery and like the cheap TPU L&K case on Amazon much better. They don't get much smaller than L&K.

It actually does. The L&K is about as thick as the Ringke Bevel. I had the "Pleson" version of it (theyre both the same just rebranded) and that is how thick it felt. The X-Level is .78mm thin.

eBay got the hook-up: https://www.ebay.com/itm/X-Level-Pu...-Slim-Armor-Clear-Soft-TPU-Cover/222698641914
It took 23 days to reach me in Los Angeles from China.
Just got mine yesterday and I love it. I've been on the hunt for a good clear case to show off the phone. I first had the Spigen Liquid Crystal but it added a bit too much bulk for my liking. This one is just thick enough to protect the rear camera lens when the device is resting face-up. My only complaints are that:
1. there is no lip to protect the screen if I want to set the phone face-down (seems to be common amongst slim cases), and
2. the cut-outs are a bit sharp from being unfinished (though really this is not a big deal for me).
The fingerprint reader cut-out is a bit off-center but at a glance it isn't noticeable for me.
Unfortunately after some time (2 weeks) case has weird bluish discoloration.
I'm assuming this came from holding my phone in pocket (jeans).
I have also Ringke clear case and same story, same discoloration.
been using this for more than half year, same as other tpu case, it will turn yellow as time goes by.
