Hey there fellow XDA members and nexus 5 owners first post on the forums here and I have a question about a case hopefully someone can chime in here. So since receiving the phone I've been in search of the perfect slim case to fit my needs. So far I have tried the ringke and spigen ultra thin cases and I like them very much, low profile and enough protection where I need it. Anyway in an effort to quit blindly buying anymore cases thought I'd post here since the community is quite big. I just found this case on Amazon:
MOD EDIT: Referral Link removed
Looks like a decent case that would provide good protection all around and that clear gray color must be really nice. My question is has anyone purchased this case yet? If so how do you like it? I don't have any experience with this particular company but they do offer quite a lot of products. If no one owns this yet though I might have to take the dive. Thanks in advance for your input.

Poetic makes decent cases. I had an Atmosphere on my One but they suffered from problems with the rubber separating if you pulled the phone at the case. It looks like they may have solved that issue on this model by making the rubber go down farther. For $5 I will probably end up trying one out.
Awesome, does it add a lot of bulk to the phone or is it fairly slim?

Woah thanks for that review, the case looks pretty good and slim indeed. I have the black version of the phone and would like to show off that nexus logo. Guess I'm gonna be adding this to my collection of cases. lol will update when I get it.

The case does not add much bulk to the phone at all, IMO. A mini-review follows:
The style of this case is impeccable, in that it mostly stays out of the way to let the Nexus 5 shine. I have the white back N5, and the Atmosphere’s clear back shows off the vibrant color well. This is not a frosted back; it pretty much is completely clear, with strategically placed lines of rubber for the camera and also for reducing the slipperiness of the backend. The same matte gray rubber goes around the border and raises above the screen to provide a slight lay-on-table lip. Finally, the buttons are covered, but the buttons are still responsive, the lock button more so than the volume rocker.
The Google Nexus 5 is a very light phone. The lightest I’ve owned, actually. With the the Atmosphere on, it remains a slim, light phone. So while I want to protect this device, I also don’t want to weigh it down. I liked the Atmosphere case from from Poetic previously for the Nexus 4, and I was very happy with it, but I read about some durability problems. It remains to be seen if the Nexus 5 case will have better longevity, but I can say the rubber on this does feel sturdier than in the past reiteration. I am quite happy with this purchase. From this Nexus 5 version, I totally agree that this company does listen to feedback and keep making improvements. I am going to continue to support them through future devices.

I just got it in the mail today and so far so good. I had the same case on my HTC One the entire time I had the phone and the case was great.
I had an issue the the first Atmosphere case for my HTC it started coming apart. I contact the manufacture they stated there was a defect, they sent me a new case free of charge and let me keep the old one not that I wanted it. The 2nd case never had an issue. As soon as I found the Atmosphere for the Nexus 5 I ordered it. Good case and good customer service... cant beat it.

In any "case" (no pun intended) they come with a 3yr warranty so it's a great buy.
I'm a warranty kind of guy and 3 years sounds pretty solid for a case. (No pun intended either) Lol
One thing I forgot to mention in the OP, I purchased the spigen crystal shell which is completely clear and had an issue that many others had with the flash showing a glow on pictures caused by the case being lit up or possibly the cutout itself. Anyone who has it care to test that out? If its not an issue here poetic has my business.

Any idea if the headphone jack would accomodate a larger headphone jack, like a 1/8" inch?

Awesome I was waiting for pics! One question though does the case provide a "seal" against the back of the phone near the earphone jack, camera, and USB port? And what I mean by that is if there is any gaps from where the case and the phone meet? Because that's what I hate with other clear cases, that they have gaps and let dirt and dust in which makes the case look dirty and I have to remove it to clean it often... So if this case is well sealed I think I'd buy it!
how easy is it to take on and off? my gf has the atmosphere for her one, and while it's a great case it's not the easiest to remove. I only use a case at work, so it's getting taken off at the end of the day
GhostNGoblins91 said:
I can't really say for sure as I don't have a large headphone jack myself, but you can see how the headphone port cutout looks on the last image I attached in my review.
I should have mentioned this in my review: this case IS difficult to take off. The fit is very tight and I wouldn't want to have to take this case on and off everyday. This is more of a put-on and leave-on sort of case.

So does dust or lint get inside the phone? or does it seem like it would? (since you have the white one you probably wouldnt notice as much) But this is the only thing keeping me from getting it!
GhostNGoblins91 said:
I hadn't had a chance to notice this, but I did wipe down both the Nexus 5 and the case interior before putting it on. The seal is pretty tight around the edges, so I don't anticipate too much dust coming in, but we'll have to see.

What about the seal by the headphone jack and micro usb and speakers? does the rubber come in contact with the phone or is it fairly close? Cause thats where most of the dust and debris get in from sticking it in and out of pockets. Thanls for all the info I appreciate it!
I have one
I bought it on Amazon in November for only $0.01 with $4.96 for shipping. I have the white nexus and I love the contrast in the back of the black lines. In addition, also does not overlap my screen protector from XtremeGuard, this combination works perfectly protecting my phone. On Youtube are a good review of the case.

Does the plastic back scratch easily? And does it mimic the curve of the original n5 back? Im using spigen neo hybrid, but the case basically made it a large iphone for me, extremely uncomfortable to hold because of the sharp corners

The back don't scratch so easily, I have it for a month and I have just a little scratches, I have the white version of the phone and the scratches are not perceptible in the use, and yes, it mimics the curve in the back and for me feels very comfortable to hold.

This is a review of www.cruzerlite.com and the Cruzerlite Gnex-A2-Blue case. It is a Androidified TPU case for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The cost of this case is a measly 9.90 plus shipping/handling.
I ordered the case on Sunday September 30th from their website www.cruzerelite.com and received it through the USPS on Thursday October 4th. They had very fast shipping for a weekend order which we all know is often not the situation with many on-line vendors.
I found this case at www.cruzerlite.com/cases/samsung/ga...androidified-a2-tpu-case-for-galaxy-nexus-600
They have 11 total colors available for this case including the blue model in this review.
The material used for this cases construction is 100% TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) plastic.
There are 10 well placed cutouts for the various buttons, usb port, headphone jack, speaker/mic and a spot to hook a lanyard. I do not use a lanyard personally but like the added feature for a phone built without.
The case fits nice and snug to the phone with a regular battery and door. The extended battery and door fits as well but requires a little working of the case to fit the side right but it DOES work well with it. I personally with any case use my extended battery without the door and it fits great that way. The case makes a very nice small ridge/buffer zone which protects the screen from all those small grains of dust that will spider the screen when it lands face down.
The functionality of the case is nice as well. Some people like raised buttons such as on silicon cases. I do not. I find they cause my pocket to wake the phone. The cutouts keep that from happening by keeping the buttons recessed a little bit. The case slides easily in and out of my front jeans pocket and never hangs up on entry or removal. Something I could never say about any previous silicon cases. The case is very easy to put on and remove.
It has a very nice and clean design to it. The little android logo on the back of the case is a nice touch to break up what would be a very boring look. I find no flaws with the case in design and manufacturing of it.
Designing in a lanyard spot in for a phone without is a very nice thing to see. Even if I personally do not use it I know they are thinking how can we make a case even better. Going the extra mile with a feature like that is not seen often anymore. Most case manufacturers I have seen have simply said “Oh this phone doesn't take a lanyard....moving on” Cruzerlite said “That's a bad design lets give it one” Well done.
Final thoughts...Cruzerlite has gone the extra mile in making and offering a economy price for a solid design with added features not found elsewhere. 9.90 plus shipping. Can you go wrong for a case that is made well, fits right, will protect from all sorts of incidents and looks this good. You can't go wrong picking up Cruzerlite Androidified TPU Case for your Galaxy Nexus.
Is any dangers of using the phone without a backdoor?
I have the black one. I wasn't sure if I'd like the android on the back but it is well done. Case cutouts and overall feel is great.

just bought'em on amazon.co.uk with the buy2get1 free promo...
Also bought a cheap 3£ TPU wave case for comparison... I'll let you know when they arrive...
I bought one a few months ago when they first came out but I'm not so impressed.
It does look great, I love the design, and I have no complaints about the fit. But there are a number of rough edges that spoil it.
The cut-out for the charger is fine because it has a gentle angle but the hole for the headset is at 90 degrees and feels very uncomfortable when holding the phone in portrait with your little finger right where the hole is.
When holding the phone in landscape for gaming there is another rough edge from bad moulding right where that textured side grip is. Again, it is very uncomfortable when rubbing on our finger. Strangely enough the grip on the opposite side feels perfect.
There is also another join line that runs around the phone which sticks out on the bottom corners but feels fine on the top.
I e-mailed the company with these complaints but never got a reply.
I won't be buying any more cases from them.

I think it's part bad design and part bad luck that I got a bit of a dud.
I have another, cheaper plain case on my Lynx 3D but the quality is far higher than the Cruzerlite. It's as smooth as butter all around and feels really nice to hold. I wish the Cruzerlite was the same because I like the detailing and colour.
But it's the lack of any response to my mail which has put me off buying another case from them.

I had the clear cruzerlite androidfied case and really liked the look. But since the case covers the side and onto the tip of the screen, it was pushing up against my screen protector that I had on. So I returned it and got a verizon kickstand case that doesn't do that.
Case Review - AOKP Second Series for Samsung Galaxy S III
Cruzerlite contacted me again asking if I would review a different case. Since I’m partial to TPU cases (and AOKP) I decided to go with some uniporn action.
Wow. That’s what I can say to start. I’m sure many of you have ordered TPU cases from Ebay/Amazon for $10 tops. That’s what I used to do. Immediately upon opening this case --- I noticed this was cut from a different cloth.
The quality of the case is without a doubt – top notch. It has almost a gel-like feel to it, which greatly helps with grip. All of the cutouts match up perfectly, with the volume rocker and power button open --- meaning you have a direct contact to the button. This would drive me nuts on other TPU cases I ordered, as many wouldn’t line up perfectly, meaning accidental volume presses and so forth. I’m sure many of you can relate. Cruzerlite decided to not cover the buttons with plastic (instead leaving them open) and I am a HUGE fan.
Design-wise (on this series) you will either love it or hate it. Personally, I’m secure with my manhood, so I have no issues rocking a unicorn on my case I went with the gray/black combo and it looks amazing. Many compliments so far…
Protection wise --- you will be good with this case. It has a very good lip on the front so you don’t have to worry about setting your phone down and messing up the screen. Once you have this case on your phone, you (at least me) should not feel scared to drop your phone. It fits like a glove and by just holding it --- you have a feeling it will absorb enough impact to make you not cry when you pick up your phone. Of course it won’t have the protection of say an Otterbox or Spi-Force, but certain consumers (myself included) don’t go that route and feel safe with TPU. I can say without a doubt – this is the highest quality TPU case I’ve touched to date. That spans across about 10 devices
Another perk? The ladies love it. Lol. My girlfriend sniped the case from me this weekend and said she doesn’t plan on giving it back Also, the designs just look cool – if unicorns are your thing.
Why I like it:
*Nice, solid, quality feel to the TPU.
*Improves grip
*Prominent lip on the front for protection
*It has a unicorn on it!
What I don’t like:
*Nothing! Honest! Big fan and I will be buying more.
Again, if unicorns aren’t your thing, they have the same quality cases in a variety of different designs. I would seriously check them out. I’m not being paid or anything for this, so this is my unbiased opinion.
Let me know if you have any questions.

I ordered the white one for my white GS3. Can't wait to get it in the mail tomorrow! Killer design... I'm glad to hear it's premium quality too. I assumed from the price that it was more than the cool design I was paying for. I almost got the persona AOKP case, but this one seemed so much nicer. I'll take some pics hopefully and get them up here this weekend.
Cruzerlite makes fantastic products. I had the one with a bunch of little Andy cutouts on my last phone, and it added just the right amount of grip and durability that I wanted. I actually liked the way my phone felt better when I had the case on than with it off. Also, I've talked to the owner and he's a pretty cool guy. Good customer service!

i think he's talking about where there seems to be color missing in spots around the volume rocker cutout (most noticeably just up from the rocker cutout), as well as the random purple stripes at the top end of the case where it seems like it should be pure white.
Which one do you recommend for the pebble blue version?
The Spigen Neo Hybrid for the Nexus 5 is a solid case. I've received it from Amazon yesterday for a mere $20 and this case has been performing really well so far. All the ports are nicely cut and positioned. One drawback I've noticed is that the power and volume rocker buttons do have space to wiggle around a bit. You can slightly hear them rattling if you shake your phone but they aren't too big of a problem. The USB cutout is large and wide, making it possible to use almost any charging cable. The same applies to the headphone jack. The back of the case tends to show a few fingerprints but they can be wiped off easily. The case does provide a lip, so it is possible to lay the phone on the screen without worrying too much about getting it scratched (though it is not a big enough lip to be protective during falls on rough surfaces). I've attached a good amount of pictures since I am able to post them yet. Overall, I would recommend this case to someone because it's sleek and sturdy despite a few small drawbacks.

Not really. The case doesn't add much bulk to the phone itself other than changing the size of the phone a tad bit.

I did find that it added a lot in dimension in height and width, but not thickness. Makes the phone feel slightly larger than a G2 even.

The only phone I have to compare it with is the Samsung S3 and the case does make the Nexus 5 larger than the S3 (You can pretty much fit the S3 on the Nexus and there will still be a small amount of room on the sides).

Yes it works.
Also have this case, although not as impressed with it.
The biggest complaint is the buttons. The buttons don't have a great feel to them. They wiggle (as mentioned by OP) all the time, the phone is actually annoyingly loud to move around (it's not loud, but it's certainly noticeable).
Other complaint is the USB port. While the OP thinks it's big enough, I can't fit in my Monster MicroUSB cable (I know all the hate about Monster, but the cable is 3" and was under $1 at Frys at one point). Wouldn't typically be a problem, but I use this cable a lot.
The headphone jack does allow my headphones to fit, but it's very close. Not sure if other headphones will have issues, but I'd be slightly worried about it.
Besides those complaints, it's a solid case. It looks great, appears that it'd protect the phone well. All in all, I am not planning on replacing it any time soon... unless my "ideal" case happens to come out... We shall see! The Qi charger still works through the case, along with NFC tags that I've tried thus far.

Nice review. I've just ordered the Spigen ultra hybrid (with clear back) from Amazon. I'll post some pics and findings as soon as I have it.

I ordered one of these which came today. Not real happy with it, as the "clear" back really ISN'T "clear", kinda milkyish and that's after scrubbing at it with a microfiber cleaning cloth for many minutes. The slim armor is easily better, even if it lacks a transparent back.

Did you remove the protective films off both sides of the clear plastic parts? Majority of the people who bought this didn't realize there's something protecting the plastic...

have you checked out the supcase? I just ordered one. It has black borders and frosted clear back, which should help hide scratches and dust.
Have this case and pretty happy with it as well. I just wish the power button was flush with the case. Don't know if anyone else has this problem, but I accidentally hit power all the damn time...
I just received my neo hybrid case... I am not a big fan at all. It makes the phone super bulky. I think this case is awesome for those wanting protection with style but I think I'm going to risk it and go with a skin or just naked.

yea I feel the same way. Am waiting on my diztronic, as well as the supcase unicorn beetle. The thing with the neo hybrid is that it made it boxy as well as wider and taller, which made it very hard to hold and feel bulky. Not to mention taking it off was a chore.
I just got this case today and it is nice. But honestly the phone has a nice rubberized back and sides where I don't feel a case is always necessary. The case adds major width. But it is high quality.

I felt the same way, this phone is just so damn sexy naked. (Did I just type that...) Anyway, I want my phone to remain that way so I left it on, and it's definitely grown on me. I'm happy with it enough that I'm just going to leave it on.

When I bought my nexus 5 I wanted a pouch, but really didn't find any to my liking . Last week I decided re-search and found a couple real good pouches, but really none what I had in mind. Then I came across a MediaDevil Artisan pouch, didn't really know what to think, like if it was going to be a cheap knock off or bad quality. As I looked into it I found out that this company makes very high quality pouches that I was never aware of. I decided to give it a shot based on amazing reviews. It came in a nice black gift like box and very professionally packaged . Has full grain leather with red stitching ( believe it comes in different colors), the phone fits perfectly in the pouch nice and snug. Not to tight and not to loose. It has micro fiber feel inside of it so when you slip you're phone it cleans the smudges and fingerprints. I would recommend this pouch to anyone who wants a nice look to there phone.
This is my first review so it might not detailed or organized in any way.

It does. Circular shaped magnet can be seen at the photos embossing under the leather and one of the online reviews confirms it
Review: pull out tab that works brilliantly and is held in place by a small magnetic clasp.

On your pictures I see you have the black with red stitching case, and inside you have a black phone?
On Media Devil's webpage it says that the black phone is different size to the white or red, therefore they sell cases for black and cases for white/red. And for the black phone there's only one option, grey with pink stitches, not my cup of tea. The case you show on your pictures is meant to be for the white/red phone only. When I first saw this I was sceptical at them, because both phones are the same size, only thing different is the plastic texture.
Can you or anyone else on this thread confirm that you're using a black case with a black phone? Despite the big red warning on Media Devil's website: http://mediadevil.com/us/artisanpouch-leather-pouch-case-google-nexus-5-by-lg.html
Thanks!
the difference, as I've been told by their employee, is the the material used inside, because of the texture difference and the material of the pull-out ribbon, as well as the size of the pull-out knob.

I thought it would be something like that....
My question remains, is anyone using the black case with a black phone? If so, any downfalls?
I asked Mediadevil about the difference between black and white/red nexus 5
Hi Marius,
I hope you are well and thanks for getting in touch.
The black and white Nexus 5 have a slightly different curvature, and as our cases are designed to fit very snugly to the device itself, this means that a black Nexus 5 will not fit into a case designed for a white Nexus 5. In addition, the black Nexus 5 has a soft-touch back as opposed to the harder plastic back of the white Nexus 5, which adds friction when it is being inserted and removed from the case, and we have also had to take this into consideration when designing a case for the black Nexus 5.
At the moment we are completely sold out of all colour combinations for the black Nexus 5 except for the slate/pink option, however we do have new cases in production, which should be available by the middle of March. I'm afraid I don't have a definite release date at the moment, however please feel free to get back in touch in a week or so, as we should be able to give you an update then!

Thanks very much for sharing this! Now that makes more sense. I think I'd rather wait for 2 or 3 weeks. I'll buy a cheap neoprene pouch case in the meanwhile.

I'm very interested in this leather pouch. But is this compatible with a tempered glass screen protector (0,30mm) AND with the toastMade (real wood) skin
I hope the pouch is not too tight for this? Or will it stretch over time? And what must I choose? Black or white/red version of the pouch, because Mediadevil said there is difference in size and material they use, but this is wood material so....???
Sorry to bump an old thread. I'm looking at this case for a Black Nexus 5.
Does this pouch cause the soft touch back to wear out from constant friction from inserting and removing the phone from the pouch? Especially near the bottom where the pull tab makes contact.
I had a similar type pouch for the Galaxy Nexus, and that worked fine for the plastic material on the phone. But seeing the Nexus 5 has a soft touch back I can see the friction causing wear. My Lenovo ThinkPad had a similar annoying issue as I found the rubberish soft finish was coming off from the sleeve I had it in.
Bump! Still would love to hear feedback from owners of this case. Just got my Nexus 5 and I'm looking for a nice pouch!

Well I have had mine for almost 3 weeks after reading this thread. I LOVE it. I got the gray/blue color and it looks great with my white n5. I use it hard and it has shown next to no wear in the 3 weeks I've had it. It is still as tight as the day I got it and wouldn't be able to be pulled out on it's own without the pull strap. Time will tell. Definitely no extra room for a TPU or similar case.
Side note: As pictured below, you can see one of the stitches wasn't tied off correctly and came undone just two days after using it. I think I curbed the unraveling by melting the end of the thread with a lighter. It hasn't moved since. I emailed Mediadevil through Amazon.com (where I made the purchase) and they had a new one out to me next day. Excellent customer service.
5 out of 5 stars would recommend to anyone.
Not a pouch person but this looks tempting

When I ordered my official Google Nexus 5 Bumper in Red I was more than excited to have an official case I knew I wouldn't have any problems with.
Upon opening I loved it. The red bumper on my Nexus 5 looked fantastic! I was thrilled that I was going to be carrying it around now.
First:
It fits perfectly with the buttons on the sides as well as cutouts for speakers and buttons. There's no doubt about it, although the buttons may be a a little harder to push at first, due to the case's button popouts being rigid, you can quickly get used to this and it isn't a real problem. The cutout for the speakers don't seem to limit the sound at all, so that was all good. And the cutout for the charging port fits most chargers without any issue. I only had an issue with one of my cables that has a huge plastic piece around the micro USB metal piece, but it wasn't made for the Nexus 5 so it doesn't really affect my opinion of the cutout. Plus it works with wireless charging, so that's a plus. The cutout for the headphone jack fit all my headphones perfectly, even ones with the L-shaped jack, so I was happy with that as well.
Other than that, I loved the relatively slim design of the case as well as the nexus logo on the back. I can noticeably feel the case's added width when I take it off, but it isn't a huge difference like many other cases may add. So it keeps the device still relatively slim.
BUT I WAS DISAPPOINTED after I put it on and started assessing the actual fit. I thought it would be a harder material. Although it "snapped" on perfectly, the case was loose around the top and bottom.
On the top:
The case could be pushed in, to where it would make a sound from rubbing on the Nexus 5. I adjusted the case and put it on again but nothing. It almost felt like the cheaper silicon cases bought for devices that eventually warp and don't fit properly. This is extremely annoying (at least for me) because I expected the case to be a perfect fit on the top and bottom without me being able to push parts of the case and have them move, or make a rubbing sound.
On the bottom:
The same thing occurred. The small piece of rubber above the charging port (closest to screen) is very flimsy. I noticed wear from two days of use. This involved taking it out and putting it in my pocket. My pants aren't tight so it wasn't a squeeze. It came from me grabbing the case right above this small piece of rubber and pulling it out. As with the top, I can push this piece of rubber pretty easily and have it move in and out (or up and down, however you want to say it). It seems it will continue to get looser until it is warped a bit.
Overall:
I was disappointed with the case. I contacted Google and as per their return policy they offered a refund without returning or swapping the case. The top and bottom "mis"-fits really killed the excitement for the case. With the top being able to be pushed in AND making a rubbing sound, it irritated the crap out of me. And with the bottom rubber piece over the charging port being flimsy and possibly warping JUST from everyday use of the case, I can't love the case like I wanted.
Last thing:
Anyone else have this issue? Or any other issues? When I read and watched multiple reviews, none of them seemed to show all of the bad things I found with my case. So part of me thinks it may be just mine. I am considering ordering another with the refund offer but I am hesitant to spend money on another and have the same results.
I use the official bumper case for my 5 in the really dark grey/black color. I really like this case. I didn't pay full price for it so that might be why I don't mind it as much.
I do not have any loose areas anywhere on mine and fits very snug.
I seem to be in the minority here as I really like using this case. It's simple, slim, feels good, fits nicely, it's everything I need and want in a case. I'm extremely cautious with my phones and would never be caught with an otterbox or any other humongous case. For me slim and simple is the way to go.
Sorry to hear you encountered some problems with yours.

same here. it works perfectly with my phone too. no loose top or bottom areas here. i don't know about slim but it is handy and gives a good grip. also the charging point rubber you talked about? for me it's a bit tight fit for the charging pin but it just gives way when pushed with a bit of presssure and comes back when pin is removed. otherwise no problems for me with this case and i'm pretty satisfied.

Where did you get it ?
I saw a video about the replica bumper cases from China and decided to get a couple of them. They said the quality was identical to the ones from Google. Plus, it was only $20 for 2 cases. When I get them, I'll post here with a mini review.

I haven't received them yet. Will let you know as soon as I get them. Shipping from China takes a while.
I got a red one about 3 weeks ago.
It started peeling (sort of) at the corners within 10 days, black material was showing up.
Upon removing the case, I discovered that it left long marks on the rubbery back of the black Nexus 5, along the ridges of the bumper.
Thats when I decided to sell it off.
Simply put, it looks awesome, fits awesome, but as a product, its bad, and not at all worth the money.
Atleast those marks are slowly dissappearing (Trust me, those arent dust or something)
