Recently did some repairs on my 5x and had to remove the rear facing camera briefly then re-attach it. Ever since doing this the camera won’t launch. Not with the stock camera app or any third party apps. I get the error: Camera Error - The camera device encountered a fatal error. I’m assuming it’s toast. I was extremely careful in removing it and re-attaching it. I’ve tried it again a few times with no luck. I’ve also cleared cache, uninstalled camera app, reinstall, reformat phone etc...The front camera works. Any suggestions to try?

Hello,
I have a strange problem with my phone. When I try to use the front camera (using any application that makes use of the camera) I get the following error: "Unknown error by ErrorCallbBack".
Even though I am not using the camera often, I know I have used it before to take photos. I haven't upgraded the ROM or made any changes recentrly, so this is very strange.
Sometimes, after a few restarts, the camera works again for a couple of times and then fails again.
I googled the problem and pretty much everyone says it's a hardware problem. I was just hoping if someone can tell me something different cause I don't have a spare phone and can't afford to be without my smartphone for days.
Thanks,
Aris
On searching this forum, I found a post entitled " [Q] Front Facing camera not working?" which pretty much describes the problem I am having with the back facing camera. I have had the phone for 6 months, used the camera a lot, and now find that I can not longer activate the camera. When I select the camera icon, I get the perimeter of the camera screen with all the camera buttons on the left and right sides of the screen. But in the center of the screen is a popup box that says: "Warning - Unknown error occurred."
The gallery still works, the front camera still works, but the camera on the back, which is the one I always use, gives this message.
I tried: powering off the phone, removing the SD and the sim cards, and removing the battery. I have tried accessing the camera from the gallery. And I cleared the cache on the camera. None of these things helped.
I am not a very tech savvy user so I am hesitant to start removing caches (some suggested clearing cache and even the data in storage media and gallery), and I really begin to sweat when anyone suggests that I do a "factory data reset", especially if it turns out that this is a hardware problem.
Based on my description, is it more likely that this is a hardware or software problem? Is there anything else I should try before I begin dumping cache, data, or a factory reset. Any particular order I should proceed with these options?
Would appreciate any and all help. My camera is the most important app on my phone and I use it constantly. I hate being without it!
Just install any other camera app from play store and confirm it's not hardware related.
sent from my GT-N7100. Press thanks if I helped..
hard reset?
Okay so I bought an S3 used in good condition, everything worked except the cameras, water tab RED. I got it home pulled it apart, cleaned the motherboard with isophoric alcohol to clean any corrosion from the water damage (no damage I can see, runs flawlessly), reinstalled original front and rear cameras no luck camera still failed. Then I replaced both front and rear camera out of another i747 I had both cameras worked in that unit but no luck in the unit Im trying to repair. Although later in snapchat I realized the front camera did work. I also tried to update the camera firmware through dail pad on stock 4.1.2 rom but it always crashes before I get to the menu to check firmware and update if available. I tried deleting cache and data on both gallery and camera app, removed all other applications relating to camera or torch (flashlight) also turned off google location, have tried other roms of course after clearing dalvik, cache partition and factory reset. I also have tried other 3rd party camera apps, Ive also tried removing sd card and sim card and battery pull. I'm stumped honestly never had such an issue before, any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Also phone is not under warranty.
I've broke my back camera to point where it wouldn't focus right, so I bought a replacement for my model online.
When friend replaced my camera (easy steps, take back cover off, unpin the camera and pull out) and tried to turn on the phone, the camera app crashes saying the app has crashed unexpectedly. Even, when replacing back to old camera, which still worked, but wouldn't focus, the same crash appear.
I've tried clearing camera app cache/data and flashed phone to stock ROM, with no result.
Is there anything I can do about this issue?
I have the mi max for a few month, suddenly, one day, I had this problem when I tried to focus on close object, the focus got stuck on the close object, and when I try to focus on some object in different distance It couldn't change and got hot.
My guess is that this is not a software fail cause I tried full wipe. I even installed a fresh stock. I also replaced the camera part but even this didn't fix the problem.
If anyone have faced this problem or have any idea it would be just great.
