M8 stuck in bootloader - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone was rooted with an unlocked bootloader but I unrooted it and relocked it. After relocking the bootloader it is stuck in fastboot mode. I tried RUU, doesn't work. In the bootloader screen it says "Software status: Modified, RELOCKED, Security Warning"
Please help

This is the expected result of locking the bootloader. Locking the bootloader makes the device stuck in fastboot, as it expects the RUU to be run immediately after.
To troubleshoot why the RUU didn't work, we would need more info:
1) What RUU number
2) Reason for failure. Where did it get stuck? Were there any error messages, and if so, what exactly were the error messages?
3) Do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting)

This is the RUU:
RUU_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_MR_BrightstarUS_WWE_6.12.1540.4
Error 130: Wrong ID model
I do realise I could have downloaded the wrong RUU I am very new at this but I have no idea which RUU is the correct one.

There are dozens of RUUs for the M8; and the RUU needs to be specific for your version of the M8. So picking just any RUU is probably not going to work.
Unfortunately, your version does not seem to have RUU (at least not for free). But you have been given some suggestion on how to recover, in another thread you posted in:

Nice work finding it. I did say there doesn't "seem" to be an RUU (and I used that phrasing for a reason), but there is always a chance of another source, user posted leak, or whatever. And my search abilities obviously don't extend to websites written in languages I don't speak/read.

Signature verify fail is possibly due to unlocked bootloader (needs to be relocked or locked to run RUU with s-on). But it doesn't matter, since that RUU won't work. I can tell from your current baseband number, that a later firmware is installed (Marshmallow) and you can't run a lower version RUU (4.16.401.13 is Lollipop) with s-on.
The following RUU and process should work on your device: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/help-htc-one-m8-bricked-t3298412

M8 starting up in Fastboot, won't load installed ROM

I've stuffed something up along the way and now my M8 seems to refuse to load any ROM I've installed on it. What's the best way to go about fixing this? It's unlocked with S-Off.
Flashing an RUU is a silver bullet for starting over, as an RUU formats all your device's partitions and flashes them with stock images.
You'll need to provide CID & MID or your current firmware version (i.e. 4.16.401.10) if you need help locating a compatible RUU.
Cheers
Need some more details to see why the phone won't boot into OS after flashing a ROM.
Is an OS number indicated on the bootloader screen? If so, what is it?
What version TWRP?
What ROMs have you tried?

I've tried flashing a few different RUUs and they all come out with an error 155. Googling it suggests I need to relock my bootloader but locking it and running the RUU again gives me the same error. I'm using SuperCID 11111111 and my MID is 0P6B70000. Currently on firmware 4.16.1540.8.

My OS number is 4.16.1540.8, I've tried TWRP 2.7.0.1, 2.8.7.0 and 3.0.0.0, roms I've tried include CM13, SkyDragon and a stock TWRP backup I found in another thread here.

Your MID and firmware number don't jive; and it can indicate something pretty dangerous (and possibly a radio bricked phone).
Need more info on what you've done.
Do fastboot getvar all, and post the output (delete serial number and IMEI before posting).
Was the phone new and stock (unmodified) when you got it; or did it have a previous owner?
Please list all the mods you have applied (s-off, changed CID, changed MID? etc.).

I bought the phone second-hand, it was running a custom ROM (SkyDragon) with cid already set to 11111111 and I wanted to return it to stock. I got the Unlocked/Developer RUU from HTC's site but that didn't start up for me so I tried a bunch of stuff, fiddling with firmwares and unlocking/relocking bootloader and so on but in the end the RUU just hadn't downloaded properly. Once I managed to get the RUUs to run they've all come up with error 155 when they start the flash and flashing the rom.zip direct gives me an error (I forget if it's the same or different)
I've also tried restoring assorted TWRP backups, installing new roms and so on, directly flashing boot.img, things seem to flash ok but the phone just boots direct into fastboot.
Update: I'm not sure what went differently this time but I've installed the latest Cyanogenmod nightly and it's starting up as expected.
I'd like to get back to stock though. What's the best way to go about doing this? The phone was already modified when I got it so I'm not sure what it would've had on it when it was purchased originally.
Edit: A bit of googling suggests this is a Sprint handset (I dismissed this to begin with since I'm in Australia and didn't think it'd be an overseas handset, but ok) so I've flashed 6.20.651.3 firmware and am waiting for a matching RUU to download. Fingers crossed!
Edit again: All sorted now, thanks for your help!

Happy to see your sorted it out.
I agree it appears to be the Sprint version, based on the the MID (0P6B70000) and product name (m8_whl). While the MID can be modified, the product name is typically not (never seen a mod method for that - so the product name is very reliable).
That being said, I would strongly caution you moving forward, to not flash any firmware or RUU to this device except Sprint M8 firmware/RUU. Reason being, the partitioning on the Sprint phone is different from most other versions; and flashing another version's firmware can lead to a radio brick (phone boots, but nothing requiring the radio will work).

This is Sprint version, same as OP based on the model ID and product name. Although main version would indicate the Sprint Harmon Kardon version. RUU can be found at the bottom of the following webpage: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-harman-kardon-edition-sprint/news/
The M8x designation on the back cover can't be trusted in this case. The back cover has been replaced to remove the "Sprint" logo branding. We've seen several phones like this (back cover replaced to remove evidence of branding) on the forum. You have to go by the getvar data.
Also, be sure to remove your IMEI and serial number from the getvar output. These are personal data, and should never be posted online.

While verifying I want to update the ROM version it states:

After clicking next and progressing I get Error 155.
On the fastboot recovery screen shows:

To run a Marshmallow RUU, you need to fastboot flash its firmware.zip first.
1. flash 6.20.651.3 firmware.zip
2. run RUU
You should be able to find the firmware.zip in Sprint section
Or you try to find one version lower (lollipop) than 6.20.651.3 RUU, run it then do OTA to 6.20.651.3

Just to confirm, if I get a lollipop version, do I still need to fastboot flash a firmware.zip?

How exactly did you "update" (or try to update)? Please describe step by step, using as much detail as possible (exact file names, results for each step, error messages, etc.), the exactly what you've tried to do.
Also, please do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
Also, is the bootloader locked, unlocked or relocked (as indicated near the top of the bootloader screen)?
OS number 3.xx indicates you are still on KitKat.
Don't try any other modifications until we get more details about the phone; and give you specific instructions. Specifically, you have the Verizon variant, which is different from most other M8 versions. And if you are following guides intended for other versions, it can be a big problem. Flashing firmware (with s-off) for anything but the Verizon version can results in no network, and possibly even permanent damage. The situation is probably reversible, but we need more details to see what you've done.

As far as I know, there is no Marshmallow update for your device variant.
If you update it using Verizon firmware/RUU .. you won't get any network.
You need to install the correct RUU for your device and your network may work again.

I put up two links for him to read thru.
I'm too busy these few days.
Guide him to change the MID from 0P6B2**** to 0P6B20000
and change CID from SuperCID to LRA__001
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67506065&postcount=25
He can change back to SuperCID later but still no point to have SuperCID on this device variant .. you can't change it to any other firmware.
LRA RUU & OTA sometime won't play nice with SuperCID/SuperMID

now after i saw @ckpv5 post i get it
to change MID to the proper MID for your device you need a rooted rom on the device
or just custom recovery TWRP ( recommended )
then after flashing TWRP reboot to recovery and allow system modification
then connect the device with your PC and open cmd window, and type
adb shell
press enter then just copy the next command and paste it in your cmd window ( don't try to write it by your self ) and press enter
Code:
echo -ne '\x30\x00\x50\x00\x36\x00\x42\x00\x32\x00\x30\x00\x30\x00\x30\x00\x30' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 bs=1 seek=16384
after sending the above command type exit and press enter
then in TWRP menu choose to reboot to bootloader and change CID to LRA__001
follow this post instruction to change CID

You shouldn't be trying "a lot" of RUUs. You should be trying only the correct RUUs for the Sprint M8. Flashing RUUs for other versions is dangerous, and can lead to permanent damage to the Sprint version M8.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173
Did you buy this phone? And you received it with cell data not working? If so, you should return it to the seller (if possible) rather then messing around with it (possibly breaking it worse, and voiding any possibility of return to the seller).
Also, you should delete IMEI, serial number, and MEID from your post. These are unique to the device, and should never be posted online.
All the RUU files that i had tried for the same model ONE M8 WHL
No I didn't buy the phone but it's my job to make a software for the phones
When I received the phone cell data was working but the problem was there is no traffic when you turned on the wireless
But my problem now there is "no baseband"

This still doesn't tell me which RUUs you tried. There are 14 RUUs on the thread I linked. Which ones exactly did you try, and in what order? Did you use the exe or zip method (and if the latter, was it by htc_fastboot, or SD card method)? Did the RUU(s) install completely and successfully, or were there error messages? If there were error messages, what did they say exactly?
Basically, your posts are short on details. You should be specific and detailed as possible, when asking for help.

Understanding that English may not be your native language. But I don't know what that means "there is no traffic". Can you try to explain another way (again, more details may help).

Where are you seeing "no baseband". In the getvar you posted, it says baseband number 1.09.20.0119
You also did not delete the personal details (serial number, IMEI and MEID) from the getvar output, as I previously advised.
I'm so sorry for being late

Is that the only RUU you tried? Before you said you tried "a lot of RUU flash files kitkat or lolipop " and when asked which RUUs you tried, you list only one. So one of those statements is incorrect or incomplete.
Hard to diagnose the issue (or may give incorrect advice) is we don't know exactly, step-by-step, what you did, and the state of the device at each step.
One important example of this: Are you absolutely sure you only flashed Sprint RUUs? It's a known problem, that if you tried to flash a non-Sprint RUU or radio baseband, that it will result in a radio brick (possibly permanent, but usually can be fixed).

I am still wondering about the original state, where you said: "When I received the phone cell data was working but the problem was there is no traffic"
I asked before, what you meant by this. You still haven't explained (only given the current state).
Again, it's hard to properly troubleshoot the issue, when it's pretty clear we've only been given a portion of the info.
Thanks for keeping in touch
These are the RUU files that I had tried before

then I tried this file
RUU_M8_WHL_M60_SENSE70_SPCS_MR_Sprint_WWE_Harman_6 .20.654.3
I'm so sorry maybe I didn't explain my problem exactly when I posted it
"" I am still wondering about the original state, where you said: "When I received the phone cell data was working but the problem was there is no traffic"
I meant there was no traffic when you connected to wifi there was no data transfer and this problem was solved by flashing the latest file
Now my problem is there are no imei and baseband in the normal mode but in the fast mode are exist
Try the older RUUs, like 2.16 or 3.30, and see if that fixes the "no baseband' issue. If so, try to RUU back to a more current version (6.20) and see if the fix "sticks".
Of try to flash the firmware only, and see if that helps (not exactly the same as flashing an RUU, so be sure to read the instructions on how to flash firmware). Firmware and instructions are on the same thread as the Sprint RUUs, which I linked earlier.

M8 stuck on bootup Security warning... Cant find correct RUU

Hi all,
I have an old HTC one m8 which was working fine when I stored it away last year. Today I tried to turn it on and found myself looking at safe mode menu with the heading
"Software status: Modified"
LOCKED
Security Warning
Now I have been going through the form for the last couple of hours trying different things but they dont seem to work.
e.g) I got a ver 4.20 RUU for my phone mentioned in this link
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/finding-ruu-t3283633
but that does not work because my phone currently is on OS-6.13 and apparently I can not downgrade to OS-4 while my phone is S-ON. (I get ERROR 159 IMAGE ERROR)
So i tried to make it S-OFF. Unfortunately from what I have read they only way to do that is through the adb tool which does not work in the fastboot mode I am currently stuck on (fastboot commands work fine from my PC). So I can't downgrade to the only RUU I have found for my modelid and cid. I have no idea how to proceed now.

So i tried to make it S-OFF. Unfortunately from what I have read they only way to do that is through the adb tool which does not work in the fastboot mode I am currently stuck on (fastboot commands work fine from my PC).

There is no (current) valid method to s-off using adb. If you are talking about firewater, that method has not worked since 2014, and nothing you do will make it work.
The valid current method to s-off is with sunshine app ($25 US) but also requires a working OS.
You also do not need s-off to get the phone working again. Since a Marshmallow version RUU for your CID/MID is not available, you can restore the stock TWRP backup from the collection in the link below: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Unlock bootloader using HTCDev.com, install custom recovery TWRP, then restore the TWRP backup 6.13.206.5 using the instruction in the link above.

RUU installation problem

Okay, I think I found the RUU exe file for my device. But I have this problem where it just stuck at Updating... (1/1) Sending...
I'm the RUU file - RUU_M8_UL_M60_SENSE70_ATT_MR_Cingular_US_6.20.502.5_combined. I don't know if I need to be in Unlock/Lock/Relock state of bootloader.
modelid: 0P6B12000
cidnum: CWS__001
Any help would be appreciated.

Correct bootloader state to install RUU would be locked or relocked (unless you have s-off, in which case any bootloader condition will work).
Since the RUU is stuck updating, I believe this usually means that security checks (bootloader locked, MID and CID check, etc.) are already passed. The RUU simply got stuck. If you haven't already done so, it should typically be okay to disconnect the phone, kill the process, etc. and start over again. A lot of times, simply trying the RUU again, will do that trick.
Otherwise, you may need to try another USB port on your PC, another cable, or even another PC. RUU can be quite finicky with the PC setup. It also must be a real PC (not emulated Mac, etc.).
If you also know how, please do fastboot getvar all, and post the output (delete IMEI and serial number before posting) so we can see the details on your phone. In some circumstances, how you determined the MID and CID may not actually be getting reported correctly (you didn't mention how you determined these, getvar all is the best and most accurate way).
Hello guys,

Please don't post the same question to multiple threads. It won't get you help any faster, but will only confuse you and those trying to help you. I posted help in one of the other threads you posted in. Go figure out which one. Now you get it?
