I wondered the same. HTC 10 is no longer listed / available on HTC website. The 10 was slated for Oreo, probably not now.

I see it differently, Google is good for updates and it would make good business sense to maintain HTC devices for the future
Entire smartphone division move to google while keep the HTC brand, one possible reason, as some analyst said, is keep the brand and get enough time to clear all the stock.
Anyway 1.1B is a bargain compare to Moto
SAD, multiple resources confirmed that Google acquired Pixel division of HTC , not the entire business though.
I told you.....1,1 bilion dollars....
The HTC as a brand will consumed by google....HTC brnd will remain fot 2 years untill htc foul absoreb from google.....No new models from htc in the 2018 ,Htc updates halteed for now.....Maybe discontinued....I am sory for that info....I believe that we reach the end.....See the good poiont....every google phone from now will be an htc with stock gp and htc quality...thats good is not it??

Umm.. no. HTC has clearly said that it will remain in the smartphone business, and they have planned products for the near future, including a 2018 flagship. The deal with Google allows HTC to survive, with less employees and those 1.1 billion dollars, they can remain afloat for a while. It's a good deal for both Google and HTC.
There are also rumors about a 18:9 aspect ratio phone that will be launched by HTC, an HTC U11 Plus or something like that, most likely in November.
That wouldnt be good for both or them because HTC cant compete anymore. They did the same mistake AMD did. Now there are some young companys who sell more phones then htc.
Google will get the patents to build their pixels, grab some ppl from engineering and sell HTC to someone else.
Not sure how hard it is for people to get that Google didn't buy HTC. If anything, this can be seen as somewhat of a partnership. They didn't buy HTC like they clearly did with Motorola. The facts are there. Personal feelings and opinions don't count as facts.

They are working in the successor of the U11. HTC will continue being independent:
"HTC will continue to have best-in-class engineering talent, which is currently working on the next flagship phone, following the successful launch of the HTC U11 earlier this year."

maybe it was nothing but a fantasy?
Also had a (lengthier) conversation about this. The rep pretty much said the same thing to me.
Thing is they cant let out that a new update is coming. If they promise a update but dont deliver or dont deliver in a timely fashion it will simply reflect bad on the company (Headline: HTC Fails to deliver promised updates) while not promising anything and than delivering with something puts them in a more positive light.
Also, whatever budget they had for the development of the desire is probably spend so they (most likely) use developments from future phones (like incredible, htc evo etc.) to create a update for past phones.
But the reason behind the slow release is that they dont want to cut in to their own sales by having older, cheaper but just as capable phones on the market who are on par with newer phones by the virtue of an update (see htc hero and htc legend).
With that being said, I thought the update was still coming mid june or the end of june?

We hope so. So long as it's not what I like to call a "HTC promise" (0.0001% chance of being fulfilled on time).
well hopefully they'll bare in mind that not providing updates will reflect poorly as well. not so much the divx thing, but if they don't provide 2.2 and state some stupid reason this may be my last, not just my 1st HTC phone
Hi, where can i find all the planned updates for the desire? and is FroYo is really different than 2.1?
HTC have not published any sort of roadmap for future updates, so your best bet is to go to your nearest psychic, and ask them!
And to answer your second question: Yes.
Regards,
Dave
June the 23rd ... thats the date we are all freed from 2.1.. LOLO!!
But then you have to throw Orange / O2 etc etc in the pot.. so to be honest ...
look on the forum .. and either get a new rom or wait till next year !!!!
23rd June has only been stated by a member on here - there's no guarantee that either him or the person he spoke to is telling the truth.

Sorry im kinda lost in translation here whats orange/o2 and why will i throw it? Lol
So basically the 720p, divx playback is just rumors?
So htc will just give us froyo then discontinue the updates and support?
First, Google makes the Android OS, so they'll release 2.2 (Froyo).
Then HTC add their own front-end to it, called Sense UI.
Finally, Orange, 3, Vodaphone and so on add their own tweaks (and rubbish apps) on top.
Each of those additional steps takes extra time, so basically Nexus One users will get it first, unbranded Desire users will have to wait a while for the HTC version, then others will have to wait even longer for the network versions.
If HTC go on the offensive with 2.2 on the 23rd i'll be laughing evilly over here. tbh I think HTC need to get this update out as simply put Sales will fall. the race between the two companies will be incredibly close. HTC need to make sure it's best hand is on the table. and keep there core elements separate and upgradable on the fly.
HTC will just release another dirge of handsets and forget the Desire. Am I being cynical??
Nope,
but with an official, yes will update it, with a possible date i'm hopeful.
i see.. too bad i live in the philippines so i will not get the updates from the mobile ops in other countries..
so the divx and 720p are just rumors?

I don't think you're far off with that assumption, my previous phone was a touch HD their former flagship model, it got one lame excuse of an update that did more harm than good, they kind of [email protected] us over with the 6.5 update that brings a stable and fast build, gave some lame excuse about users not wanting an update anyway
That made me not wanting to buy an HTC ever again, if only the desire wasn't the best android phone avaible at the time and my contract wasn't up for renewal, I wouldn't have consider another HTC.
According to a post on official blog of Polish service provider ORANGE, HTC is due to release the Froyo update for Desire in August 2010.

Yes throw your phones in the bins everyone, theyre useless now.
No. I just wish Id waited. Wanted Divx support and 720p. Well since I cant get that on Desire nor Iphone. I take the later cuz it is simple better.
We are only customer... buy and enjoy it
The way I see it:
I purchased an awesome Desire my first HTC phone of many. I did not expect plenty of updates but do expect updates to solve issues.
If I dont get any updates then fine as my handest runs like a dream. I dont have any issues and dont need any solving (well only user error)
Surely good buisness is to release a new handset rather than offering new roms to exsiting customers. As long as problem solving updates are done im happy and surely you cannot slate HTC for this.
If you purchased a Ferrari and then they release a new engine, sat nav, bluetooth, leather etc you cannot expect a free upgrade as then you wont purchase the new model!
What the hell is an "HTC Butterfly" supposed to do? Who comes up with such childish unrecognizable names for flagship devices? And then what is an "M7"??
Why not simply a one X2? How is HTC ever going to build an iconic phone series this way if they keep changing the flagship brand every year.

Good point but the Butterfly will not be called that in European markets.
HTC have lost they're way a bit they should look toward Samsung with the Galaxy/Note series, they tried it with the Desire range few years ago,why not again ?
I believe m7 is just the code name (like Endeavoru pr Pyramind), I am sure they have already decided on a hilarious name with misplaced capitals already.
I vaguely recall the Butterfly was going to be the DLX in the US and Deluxe here but could be wrong.
M7 is a code name, no one outside of HTC knows what it will be called.
I like the name Butterfly. Why the hell not? Or does it need to be more manly? Would "HTC Skullcrusher XXX" make you want to buy it more?
The new marketing team is doing a good job with the M7, I mean they are playing the apple/samsung game in delivering various ''spy pics'' and infos every 2 days on the internet just to hype things up!
Also the unveiling of one definite flagship on the 19th Feb and I hope they invited lot of TVs,is a huge step forward for HTC marketing.
HTC is making awesome devices but they always lacked alot of communication, that's why Peter Chou fired the old team

HTC makes really great phones, but their marketing is nowhere to be seen.
In my school a lot of people got Galaxy S3, and nobody except me got an One X.
Those two phones are competitors and substitutes so its sad that people haven't even heard of One X...
Its like you got an BMW car but don't know whats a Mercedes.
I think HTC doesn't do enough marketing or doesn't do it correctly which leads to situations like this where people don't know anything about HTC phones and therefore aren't buying them...

Exactly my story.
Sent from my HTC One X
This is about to change
2 things to remember
1- During the One Series launch, the One X was exclusive to AT&T in the USA, being on the same network, Apple was unhappy with all the One X hype (the One series was the highlight of last year's MWC) and managed to block it from entering the US due to some ridiculous lawsuit, HTC was forced to modify the software of all the units while they were held in customs before they were let in but nevertheless much delayed, which diluted much of the One X attention. This will never happen again because HTC signed a 10 year agreement with Apple
2- For three years HTC will now be the official smartphones sponsor to the UEFA Championship
HTC also took advertising and marketing in-house. The new marketing head is supposed to be pretty good. Worked at some big ad/marketing agencies over the years.
It's good to hear that HTC has recently got in a new Marketing Director.
They must bring up Rihana at the M7 NYC fiesta
Instead of taking pics in a plane that only a few saw in the internet

These are all speculations on something that even Google hasn’t announced yet. I say BS!
Back in 2011 a group of companies which included HTC agreed to support their phones upto 18 months from release. HTC One X was released in 2012 May so I hardly think HTC will stop supporting their flagship and first One Series phone in just 12 months. That will harm their reputation a lot. Besides, One X+ which has a very similar hardware configuration and was released just last Nov, IMO that will definitely get Android 5.0 so I don’t any reason for HTC to leave One X behind.

Taken from an article by andronica, who were present at the 2011 Google I/O, regarding the android alliance which HTC were part of. And there are many like this:-
That does not translate to phones always getting these updates, and logistics problems alluded to by Google VP Andy Rubin in the post-keynote say as much.
For instance, the members of the update partnership could say that a new device should still be able to receive Android OS updates within the first 18 months of release; however, companies would not be obligated to stick to that guideline, and that does not mean that phones would access every new release. The group could suggest that a phone capable of running the latest software should reasonably have it within two months of the code becoming accessible; however, testing problems or developmental sluggishness could stand in the way of that happening.
Also if you Google "android 18 months updates" you will find a number of articles reporting the demise of the alliance last year.
The one x by the way was released in April 2012, in the UK at least. I got mine on 6 April, just checked the paperwork. So its "best before date" is the beginning of October this year

They keep wondering why their business is floundering even though they put out nicely spec'd hardware. Customers remember it when they get screwed.
The life of the One X: Unfinished software -> Poor QC -> Terrible customer service when dealing with repair centers -> Not honoring warranty on unlocked devices -> No updates past Jelly Bean
The ONE I was waiting for? Don't make me laugh! The ownership experience has been mediocre at best.
Nothing but nexus devices for me or maybe Sony in a year or so since they seem to start to get it.
So HTC...here's a nice one fingered salute to you!

I don't think that the barriers here would be because of the hardware cause we still have superior hardware as nexus devices and most of the devices that out now and all now that it will be updated... We have one of the most ancient quad core devices in the market... It will be the policy of HTC to sell the new devices I'd you want the key lime pie by new flagship or newer devices... Hi guys
I contacted HTC customer support asking them when the HTC E9+ would receive the promised Marshmallow update. They replied saying that there are no more upgrades planned for this device. So seems like we are stuck on Lollipop forever. I am terribly disappointed in HTC. It is an unethical company which doesn't seem to be able to keep its promises. No wonder they are doing so poorly in their market shares globally and trailing behind the competition. I am definitely not buying any more HTC devices. And this comes from a loyal customer who has been using HTC phones all his life. But I guess it serves them right. A company that cannot keep its loyal customers is bound to doom.
I will also not going to buy any more HTC because of same reason!
maybe we could use a ROM like cyanogen with Android 6.0 om our HTC E9+. Is there any solution?
On HTC M9+ is there a Marshmallow ROM?
I don't understand why, M9+ have Marshmallow and E9+ have not!Can someone port and help us?Both phones have the same platform.
Maybe we will receive Android 6.0 because M9+ with the same procesor have Marshmallow..

Well, sadly it is not going to happen. The "development" status has been static since 6.0 was announced for the E9PLUS. Nothing has changed since that time. It has indeed been two years now and I believe the device is far into the End of Life phase, killing hopes for any update.
By the way, the processor used by this phone is vulnerable to the spectre/meltdown bugs. HTC has no plans for releasing any firmware updates to solve this.
I am also never purchase HTC Mobile.
Me too .. will never buy HTC again for same reason
